We had Very nice stay. The entrance in a little rough. Was not prepared for so many steps up and down getting into the property. Do not remember it being listed in property information.. But once down into the property it was everything we had hoped for. Quiet, tropical, lots of exotic birds and so many beautiful plants. The Bungalow we stayed in was perfect size for 2 people, very romantic. The service is casual and relaxed but still attentive. Our Room Butler Jerlyn was amazing. So friendly and answered any questions we had. Overall we loved our stay. Thank you

The experience was atrocious with the exception of the fact they assign you a butler Mickey who tries to help you in Every way he can. Beside that all was atrocious! To begin with the bathroom facilities are in a separate little Hut you have to walk out of your room out into the public outside and then enter a room and that room was overrun with ants and I complained and they claimed that they sprayed it but I am sure they did not spray it or maybe they did but it still was overrun with ants everywhere. Disgusting. Also there is an owner and her name is Jane. I told her that I need a ride to the boat and I told her I had received an email from her hotel telling me it would cost me $150 Philippine pesos. She denied any such email had ever been sent to me. She called me a liar! And she came to me personally and she aggressively waved her hands at me in a threatening manner. I am going to be 80 years old on December 20th and this frightened me. She is a horrible human being and doesn't belong in business. Anyway I sent that email to her and I told her she needs to apologize to me because here is the email that she claimed never existed and she called me a liar and I proved I did receive such an email. Also to get to the beach you have to walk down many many concrete steps and to get back to your room you have to climb up many many steps. Also on the last night there was a wasp flying around in my room and I was terribly frightened I would never stay here again ened. Also

Madame April runs a well oiled machine! The perfect precision of every detail was above excellent! One of the most romantic vacations of my life time! Every single detail was perfect, from our butler, Laya, to absolutely everything right on time! Keeping the balance of nature to every location of this wonderful resort! What a beautiful place! The staff (Teng) was so very accommodating and responsive! Most days we felt we were the only people there. The grounds are manicured and with varied tropical flowers and trees. It was paradise for both of us!

I was very pleased with this resort. Quiet, relaxing. The food was really good. Everyone has a personal butler to serve you and they even act as a personal guide on activities. I have to say our butler was absolutely amazing. The rest of the staff was also great and very friendly. I’d go back in a heartbeat, but I’d request the same butler. She made the vacation better.

Be prepared to leave your car in town somewhere because they have no parking and you have to hire scooter boys to take u there with near no bags Bumpy unsafe travel if u have kids or you don't want your lady falling off on the rocks and you have to pay them and the ferry maybe just taxi to the ferry. Beachfront does not mean on the beach there we paid the high price for beach front unit and we could not see the beach from our hut. It is a small beach as well the locals border all sides and if the tide is out so is swimming for 6 hours

Beachfront does not mean on the beach there we paid the high price for beach front unit and we could not see the beach from our hut. It is a small beach as well the locals border all sides and if the tide is out so is swimming for 6 hours

We were the only guests at that time, glad to have a personalized service by Marg, staff are nice, food are little bit expensive but tasted great, We enjoyed our stay and it was a memorable one. Cottage prices are great deals for a very nice resort.

Staff bends over backwards to accommodate. Manager even constructed a makeshift tower to mount a wifi booster at my bungalow. Food was very good, reasonably priced and a very expansive menu - something for everyone. Delivered right to your accommodation or the beach if you prefer. The gardening is absolutely beautiful and the property well maintained and constantly being improved. Free ferry to Davao. Not a downside but a lot of units are built into the hillside so there are a lot of steps/uphill pathways - 216 steps to a beautiful Jacuzzi/cool pool, fed from the mountain spring! Which you need after all the steps!

Very poor facility (old bathroom & noisy old style aircon). The beach is not great to swim in. Staff are very nice though. Dinner outside on the porch or on the beach is lovely. Food is not bad.

This is a resort in a beautiful tropical setting but you are stuck at this resort unless you want to ride for an hour each way to Davao. There is no place to buy some food. No place to eat. The resort has no eating facility, just a kitchen. You can eat at the water or at your room but the food is brought plated to you. There is no café of any kind. There also was no hot water. We checked out after the first night and breakfast. And also be aware that anything that Expedia says about breakfast being included is not correct. Expect an additional 6,000 - 12,000 pesos (150 - 300 us) a DAY for additional charges.

It was not easy to get there in the late evening when my flight was delayed. You have to go there by boat, but the last boat was gone. We managed to get there by car but used more that two hours and the road was very bad. Very nice staff there and a nice place by the beach. Quite place with not so much people. The wifi connection was very slow.

The hut we stayed was beautiful and the view is amazing.. I cannot be more happy and we even have our own butler...The staff are very helpful and they will spoil you like king and queen... love it...

I spent 3 days trying to cancel this booking, but Expedia was totally useless in this regard. Telephone and internet connections did not help, and the "call back" system never worked. Once I reached civilization in China, I successfully was able to send an email to Expedia, but still haven't had a reply or heard anything about a refund 5 days later. Unless I do, this is probably the LAST TIME I will ever book on Expedia.

Built on a hill, it is a place for the phisically fit. Thetre are MANY stairs to climb when in the Gorei house or the 2 upper round huts. The website does not indicate where the rooms are, so it is difficult to tell. There are cottages closer to the ground level, but they were not listed as choices for a room. The pool is lovely. The beach is terrible. You cannot go into the water because it is not maintained or cleaned. Rocks and moss. The view, however, from the Gorei house is wonderful and the sounds of the birds is great and relaxing. The leaky pipes in the toilet area left the floor constantly wet. Piles of old building materials and unused furniture everywhere, Needs better upkeep. The staff is great; kind and polite, so that balances the overall view of our stay. Also web site needs updating.

I previously stayed at the Pearl Farm before which is the best you can stay on Samal Island so I had high expectations. Hof offers a personal butler for the time you stay which is why I would stay at this hotel instead of Pearl Farm. The personal butler is an awesome touch of personal attention and surpasses any other hotel in service. The butler is available from lunch until the time you retire. The place is smaller than most and you have to climb a few steps to arrive at the Jacuzzi, which for most expects warm water, but they clean everyday so its cold. The view from the top is stunning and the butler will service your every need, even from the top of this hill. Couldn't have asked for a better get away and service.

I just completed my stay at Hof Gorei and it is hard to express the extent my complete satisafaction. I read some of the previous reviews and will admit that if you are very old & infirm, or are traveling with small children, Hof Gorei might not be your "cup of tea". But if you want true relaxation in a tropical setting with unparralelled service, then Hof Gorei is for you. I found the value to be exceptional compared to other resorts in the area. If you are looking for "noise", or distractions....then stay away!! But if you want great personal service from individuals who only know service with a smile, then this is your place. I spent 3 days with them, took the opportunity to go on an island hopping excursion that included snorkeling & a beach catered lunch under the trees; then an inland tour that was incredible. I am already planning my next trip & have emailed other friends from the USA to let them know about this "true pearl of the Philippines"!! Thanks to Gadiel, our butler, Moman & Madame April for allowing us to share in their little island paradise.

Totally satisfied with the "personal butler" style service. Great place to stay for those looking for peace and quiet with beautiful view of Davao Gulf and Mount Apo. I do not recommend it to those who cannot tolerate strenous hiking due to the steep hill location, a lot of steps to climb up and down to our cottage.
