Wonderful quick overnight stay with dog, quiet, clean, morning river walk. Great value and thank you for allowing pets.

the location is perfect and a good amount of access to the river. great place for family reunion

The bed was super comfortable. Check in was easy. However; there was hair in the shower that did not belong to us. The halkway was dark and pretty beat up. The electricity was spotty and kept having power bumps. During our 3 day stay, no maid service. Had to go ask for trash bags to take garbage out.

The room was loud too many noises water running from the bathroom area the fridge was loud and the furnace was making popping noises it was extremely hard to get a good nights rest! The first night there were people arguing outside about midnight! Unable to get any rest with all the noises in the room!

Easy. No problems. Good price.

We ended up in a two bedroom cabin. The floors sloped badly in both bedrooms and the one in the bathroom had a soft spot making you feel like the whole thing could tumble down at any moment. It was expensive, especially considering the condition. Over 250.00 for one night.
The stove, even though we didn’t use it, needed a good scrubbing.
Chama was gorgeous! We hit the peak of Fall color.

Property has been kept up but is very dated.

It is obvious that this is an old motel. I personally know it's been there for over 60 years, but even so it's been maintained. My only gripe, and it could have been bad is that they have signs all over saying pets must be on leashes at all times. Yet they have a stinking Pit Bull dog roaming freely around. We had breakfast at the Elkhorn cafe, and while walking back that Pit Bull snuck up behind my son and nipped at the back of his leg. I told them that was a lawsuit waiting happen. She said, Oh she wouldn't hurt anyone, but the stinking thing tried to bite him, TWICE! If it had, I would own the Elk Horn motel after the law suit. Your dog signs apply to you too!

It was quiet, was easily walkable throughout the property, including to the river.

To start off, we paid $300.00 a night for 2 nights in a deluxe king cabin, so with taxes and fees it was $680.00. Elkhorn might want to look up the definition of DELUXE because there was nothing about this cabin that was deluxe. It was dirty, run down and the bathroom door would even close. We ended only staying the first night. When I went to check out the front desk clerk said that they would credit us for the second night. I haven't seen a credit for this, so I guess we are out $300. The only thing keeping Chama alive is the train. You would think the local businesses, that are supported by the train passengers, would take this into consideration.

We received friendly service, but needed to get a wineglass changed because the previous guest had smashed it. For some reason we couldn’t get a new glass, which isn’t all right at all. Also the cabin had an unfortunate smell and were in need of maintenance.

There was hair in the bathroom by the sink 😳 -that’s the only complaint besides our neighbors who fought
4.0
We were disappointed to find prior occupants' hairs in the sink and their personal toiletry items left. A rug that had no backing had to be put away to avoid an accident. It was close to 90 degrees when we checked in to find no AC, but a desk fan that sounded like a plane about to take off. The first big problem is that this place has no phone # to communicate directly. The only phone number is a set of recording loops with a british accent that will not get you to the front desk. Texts are it, which is OK for most things if they answered promptly. By the time they got back with the location of the ice machine we had finished our first cocktail. We were at the far end of the property and finding ice was my first walk. We realized we would not get service unless I walked to the office, and also would be on the train during all the service hours the following day, so we did an inventory and took my second walk since we only had 1 washcloth for a room for 4, and 2 cups. On my walk back, I realized all the other rooms had stand fans, and that was my third walk to the office--to find if we could trade our super loud desk fan for one that we could sleep with and that might actually help cool the very warm room. They were actually very helpful with this. Then we found the other issue--minimal hot water. 5 minutes to heat, a lukewarm shower if you ran no cold water, and you lost a little heat each time someone else in the complex started their shower. An unpleasant stay.

There needs to be better lighting in the cabins

There are several similar lodges nearby, and this one isn't one of the better. We were unable to get anyone on the phone before our arrival, and our voice and text messages were never returned. No staff were available when we arrived around 9pm, but the room key was in an envelope. The entry lights for the room didn't work, the ceiling tiles were shedding debris onto the bed, and the electric outlets were all so old and loose that the plugs just fall right out of the wall. But aside from that, the room was clean, quiet, & comfortable.

Bathtub had not been cleaned in eons. It was filled with mold. Pot holder on counter was filthy and had mold growing on it. Dishes were dirty (they expect guests to do their own dishes - so guess what, they aren't washed). from 11:30pm to 3:00am there was a serious disturbance with other "guests" involving physical fight with at least 3 men and a woman in unit adjacent to mine. Screaming and fighting and explicatives. Many, many vehicles driving by the cabins ALL night. This place is filthy dirty and unsafe. I cancelled my next night's stay and the owners did refund me that night but charged me full price for the night I was there even though the shower and the kitchen were essentially unusable.

the antique set up and cleanliness, parking, service was great, though we checked in late.

Book early. Very peaceful enjoyed the river that runs thru the place. We will go back

This is a rustic cabin type lodging. That is exactly what we were looking for. In Chama there isn't much else. The facility is very well kept up and has very nice facilities. I would highly recommend it if your looking for a comfortable but rustic experience.

The rustic atmosphere was intoxicating.

The room was not clean. Dirt on the floor. Bed was not a standard queen size. It was much smaller. The area next to the office was a pile of trash. Too bad, if proper cared after it could be a very nice place. We found it extremely disappointing.

The property is old. It is not a Comfort Suite or Holiday Inn Express. Wasn’t expecting that. I was impressed with cleanliness. That’s high on my list. No ac - we don’t need it here. It was 90 when we were there but cooled off at night. They had wood flooring that was CLEAN. I was glad there was no ancient nasty carpet. It was an excellent place to stay for the train ride. The girl at the desk went above and beyond and fixed the screen on our window.

The whole facility is seedy and run down. Needs major updating. Room was hot and stuffy nothing but a ceiling fan and broken box fan. Loud neighbors smoking outside of our room. No maid service to clean room. Old Elkhorn diner was closed and equally run down. What was once rustic and quaint 50 years ago is no more.

Wi-Fi does not work here, and the rooms are poorly appointed, bad lighting, broken window screens and rickety wood porch steps. The managers are rude, aggressive and generally ignorant of how customer service works. The owners must be absentee.
If you bring a dog, you will be harassed by the unleashed free roaming pit bull who belongs to the on site caretakers/managers. They told me “ she lives here and she allowed to do what she wants”
I had to hastily leave at 7am because th Wi-Fi didn’t work and I had a meeting at 8. They lied to me and said at check in that the Wi-Fi would work for video calls, which was the Only reason I booked here. The flooring is buckling and separating, and that’s just th beginning……nothing works properly here..

Elkhorn is rustic and old, but that is ok. Although most of the rooms are individual cabins, I was given an upstairs room in a building. The room was hot and had no air conditioner. I could not leave the balcony door open because the screen door did not lock. The room was basically clean, but I’m pretty sure I slept in the same sheets as the prior guest! There was popcorn in the bed between the fitted and the top sheet and between the top sheet and the blanket!! The bed was a bit too firm. The grounds a beautiful with a road down to the river. I saw a large owl fly by my balcony and land on a tree stump!

We liked the king size bed!
No A/C was very unique/strange this being a motel/lodge and all.

This was my second stay here. The first was OCT 2019. Dated, but clean and comfortable. If you’re looking for modern, this is NOT the place for you. If you like rustic, peaceful and comfey, you will like it. The shower is small, thankfully I am short and fairly thin. The floors squeak, but we had some good laughs about it. The river is beautiful and just a short walk away. WiFi service was not that great, but we didn’t care. Unplugging is nice. Short drive to Cumbres Toltec station for train ride. I’m sure we will be back.

Easy access and restaurant on site.

This is an old roadside motel where the rooms have been fixed up a bit, but there is little charm. It is however clean and seems safe. The bed was decent.

Rented a quaint little cabin with few amenities. On-line pictures were somewhat deceiving. Cabin is many years past its prime. Floor was uneven, roof is bowed, furniture looks like it came out of a child's playhouse. Mattress very hard, we had a difficult time sleeping. On the upside cabin was close to river, town, shopping. Overall we wouldn't consider renting again.

You get what you pay for, but this was not cheap, first night no heat. We checked out a day early.
