The history of the building was interesting and I really appreciated the woodwork and craftsmanship of the house itself. My room was quiet and comfortable. The hosts were friendly and helpful. They asked what I wanted for breakfast and when I would like to have it ready. Overall, I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I walk back in time Time when we go to the Richards House!
In their home built back in 1883, is an adventure in what homes were like during that time.
Take a tour that will explain the history of the house and learn what makes this incredible place so unique. With all modern day amenities, every where you go and look there’s something to see and admire.
The breakfast is delicious, there are cakes outside your room on a buffet table, a fire in a fireplace , while eating breakfast and also in some of the rooms!
The hosts of The Richards Bed and Breakfast; Dave and Michelle ,make you feel at home from the time you arrive until the morning you leave. Private and and cozy
You won’t regret it!

The property was amazing for a house that was built in the late 1800s.

This was actually my 2nd stay at the Richard's. Looking at the outside you woukd never guess what you'd find inside. The most beautiful rooms! It takes you back in time. The owners are just wonderful to talk to and treat you like they have known you forever. The breakfast is simply to die for!! Obviously I will stay again!!

I figured I'd never be in Dubuque again, so why not choose a super unique place to stay? That logic was all I needed and it paid out well: this house is incredibly interesting to walk around and just... observe. Day and night are very different experiences and if you're lucky, not all rooms will be occupied so you can look at the different levels of extravagance.
Speaking of, splurge for the "Library Suite" if you can, it's not a ton more than the cheapest room and it's wholly unique. Yes, that IS a claw tub in the middle of the sitting room. I can only imagine how fun that bath would have been in the winter with the fire roaring.
Owners are super friendly and excited to talk about the house's history, which is great if you're into old architecture etc.
Food was very tasty and plentiful, including the always available cookies, sodas and boxed wine.
I would happily return and will be recommending it to all my "midwest roadtrip" friends.

Absolutely grand adventure... a historic place where you can sit in the antique chairs, sleep in the half tester bed and eat breakfast in the formal dining room with fancy china... all with kind, friendly inn keeper making you feel welcome. We really enjoyed ourselves! It's not a cookie cutter hotel room, it's an experience that was a great part of our vacation memories.

This is a beautiful Victorian mansion transitioning to a B&B. As with all "grand old lady" houses, there's always a bit of work being done. But that makes you realize what a labor of love owning one of these gals is! Hosts were very knowledgeable of house's, and its builder's, history. Lovely breakfast, even checked on food allergies before preparing.

We got there, and did not go in. It was covered in scaffolding and the neighborhood seemed iffy, so we called them and cancelled, and just went and stayed at a different downtown hotel.

The exterior first impression was a bit worrisome, it is a work in progress. The interior is fantastically beautiful. The host gave us a great tour and the breakfast was delicious. We will return.

Beautiful on the inside. Pretty bad looking on the outside. If you can get past the exterior construction and scaffolding, you will be rewarded with a beautifully restored interior.

We loved our stay here! We were in the blue room for the night. The owners are very nice and welcoming. After a tour of the house we were provided complimentary drinks and snacks for the evening. We loved all the old architecture. My son was on a roll away bed which was actually very nice and memory foam so we all had a great nights sleep. The baked goods were amazing. Breakfast was delicious and we left with full bellies. Definitely recommend!

This was a last minute stay, and it turned out to be a fun, quirky place. This is a historic house, and there is a lot of work to be done on the outside, (and probably continuously on the inside as well!). But if you're looking for something different than a regular old hotel room, there is a ton of really interesting history in this house.
The owners were very nice and accommodating, providing us with fun information about the history of the house, and the breakfast was delicious. It is also walkable to restaurants and coffee shops.
We are so happy that we happened upon this place!

We really enjoyed our stay here! This was our second time staying at the Richards House and I absolutely love the historic charm and sheer beauty of the interior that has been so lovingly restored. The owners are very kind and accommodating and make you feel right at home. The breakfast was top notch and the whole stay was an incredible value for the money!

Historic mansion that is in the process of being restored and initial look was questionable. Inside the house is beautiful. Breakfast was great as the host is a great cook. I would stay here again but it was difficult for a senior citizen to negotiate the many stairs as we were assigned to top floor 3.

I loved staying at the Richard’s House. The staff were very welcoming and kind and the food was GREAT! I loved how they kept the vibe of the time in the house, it felt so special to stay there. If you love Victorian style houses, stay here! You’ll have a great nights sleep and yummy food in the morning.

On positive side. Owner/manager was lovely. Breakfast was excellent. They accommodated my allergies something people never usually do. Mattress was comfortable.
On negative side. Everything at the facility was very dated. Although part of the vibe for an old Victorian bed and breakfast house, there was definitely upkeep and remodeling that would have been appropriate. My bathroom had mold on walls from people not properly showering in tub. Shared bathroom needed recaulking and regrouting. Both were not well cleaned. Carpets were worn and stained. My bathroom curtains were stained and shredded.

This is a very old house ( over one hundred years old building) turned into B&B, outside of the house needs lots of work. The living and dining room are the best parts we enjoyed our breakfast and piano practice time. Also breakfast was fantastic!

This is not a place you will ever forget. It is Historic with a capital H, and on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a huge classic mansion from 1883, and the exterior is so rough that I originally thought I was in the wrong place. The interior, however, is amazing, mostly original right down to the original books from the family that owned it for more than 100 years. This place is special. If you have ever wanted to spend a night in a historic mansion, this is the place. The price is very reasonable, it's near Mario's Italian Restaurant, and Dubuque turned out to be much more interesting than I expected.

Very affordable BnB and very comfy beds and excellent breakfast in the morning. Really cool rooms. The house is older but has lots of charm and beautiful items throughout. Owners very nice and accommodating. I enjoy staying here, can’t wait to see house when completed outside.

Outside appearance was terrible yet interior was unique.
Unfinish work(like semi-exposed wiring) should have been corrected.
Breakfast was outstanding.

We had a great stay along with our dog. Our room was quiet and comfortable. The room had a window A/C so we were able to control the temperature. There were beverages and cookies available throughout the day. The breakfast was hearty and tasty. We would recommend staying here!

The food at this B and B was amazing!!
The decor in this 1880’s house was very quaint-it appears that the couple is continuing on updates on this old home.
