upon arrival, the room had just been cleaned and it smelled pretty musty. That seemed to have aired out eventually. But the room was worn-the headboard was ripped and the carpet was old. Shower worked fine, but they only had liquid soap dispensers, no bar soap-and it didn’t dispense well. Lobby was dark and lined with suitcases, so we did not leave our luggage there on our last day, which was inconvenient. When we left, no one was at the front desk, so anyone could come in and the elevator did not require a key.

Chose the hotel for cost and location...in that respect you get what you pay for,the room was tidy and spacious with a good working shower and bathroom.
There were hairs in the bed however and stains on the sheets and to agree with many reviews here, the 2 receptionists we met were just cold and unwelcoming offering little more than a short answer...There was also a fee to pay on arrival, the usual U.S tax and percentage but at $96 for the 2 of us I couldnt work out if it was truly correct...many people here say not but it was certainty not a refundable deposit like some folk think...
Overall...The stay was quiet and comfortable with local food choices and Subways close...so my daughter and I did Manhattan and Brooklyn in 3 days easily...We did however feel a little cautuous as there was no safe to leave valuables and bags were just left in the lobby after checkout...we took a rucksack wih valuables out with us and didnt leave bags....the reviews here make it a hard hotel to judge so we were cautious and would perhaps not recommend unless we came again and felt less edgy....in anycase a holiday is what you make it and we had a blast, slept well and did loads....tread with caution but dont be afraid.

Hotel is Nice, Area can be a little uncomfortable after 9 pm

No functioning lights in main room, had to turn on the TV just to have some light in the room. No frills, don't expect much and you won't be disappointed.

Definitely will not stay there again. The area was dirty and the staff unfriendly.

I would not stay here again. They have no place to keep bags other then in their lobby. Bed sheets had a stain on them and their guest lounge area looked like a closet. It was cheap and close to subway and in chinatown.

great position for exploring Manhatten. waiting 30 days for the $100 bond per room was not good it ate into my holiday budget

Very good value. Was a bit worried it would be a bit of a dive due to how much cheaper it is than most Manhattan Hotels, however I was pleasantly surprised. Good sized room which was clean and comfortable. Only criticism would be the mattress needs replaced as it's much softer in the middle than the edges, but that's a bit of a "first world problem". Location wasnt great but on the plus side there were two subway stations within a 5 minute walk

Convenient location.

Booking was for 2 nights but double booked first night so instead of private queen bed with ensuite (TV etc) had room with 2 lots of twin bunk beds (no Tv, poor fixtures/bath etc) simply underwhelming - second day had to leave luggage near front desk check out and back in after 3pm to have room should have had (nice room good fixtures, improved comfort) - staff really not helpful - when complained not getting what was paid for said we could cancel through expedia (and at 8pm at night find another hotel in New York nearby with a similar price? We had booked months in advance to keep price down so not an option!) Good deli just across the street, position good able to walk to 9/11 etc, handy to metro and bus stops. So if had 2nd room would give good 4 star review if had to have 1st room for another night would be 2stars maximum!

I was over the moon with this great hotel in Chinatown. It’s basic but so clean and comfortable, and there is a great bodega across the road where you can get all the supplies you might need, including fresh coffee and smoothies. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the beds were very comfortable - would stay again!

Absolute bare bones operation. There were some hairs in the shower not from us. It was otherwise fine, not too loud but definitely can hear traffic noise and especially car horns.

I enjoyed my stay. The staff was very kind. The hotel was clean, large room with a good heating unit and a comfortable bed and bath, within walking distance of tasty shops and subway access. I'd stay again.

Love this neighborhood, very "old New York" with many fascinating people and places.

I had a good experience overall but the area is not the safest late at night.

The interior elevators, hallways and rooms looked newly renovated. Very well upkept.

I hate giving bad reviews but this was a super negative experience. Super predatory to not make it EXTREMELY clear that I needed to pay both a $100 deposit and another $113 in taxes in addition to the $600 I paid for three nights in a run-down room. I know they can't control high city taxes being collected and I'm disappointed with Hotels.com for not being super clear when I checked in, but you can still be basically courteous and kind. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely rude about the surprise payments when I arrived at 9 pm on a Wednesday. The other folks working behind the desk at other times were lovely though. From a quality perspective, the elevator was also so slow to open when you got to your floor that I legit thought it was stuck multiple times. Also, the room was super small, the headboard had tears and scratches in it, the A/C was super loud, and the bathroom fan didn't help de-fog the mirror, so I had to use a blow dryer on cool to de-fog it after waiting for 10 minutes with the fan on. I didn't expect it to be fancy but I didn't expect it to be so ratty and wildly overpriced. If you have enough money to afford this place, you can likely find somewhere much nicer.

This hotel was in a total sketch area of China town. The room was clean, but TINY, but property itself was a bit beat with next-to-no amenities. And anyone could come up in the elevator, there was no security to the property at all. Would not recommend for women traveling alone.

I liked the cleanliness of the king room, and very spacious.
Check in desk clerk was not friendly, or helpful.

Nice budget option easily walkable to public transport and felt safe at night. Service great

Good clean hotel in a very lively interesting area.

The hotel is not in the nicest neighborhood but I never felt unsafe.

A reasonably priced clean bed and bathroom, and nothing else. Service needs serious work. Arrived at 3:40 for a 4:00 check in. Told to wait… —Not, “We will be happy to do so but the key won’t be available until 4.” “No check in. Wait until 4.” Middle of Chinatown, so convenient to lower and middle Manhattan. We walked to and from the Battery and Central Park.

Great stay. Especially for exploring Chinatown and Lower Eastside. Nice rooms.

Absolutely not. Filthy shower curtain. Sticky carpet. Stains on bed blanket. No television aside from apps. King size bed was two twins pushed, but not fastened together.

I’m concerned that there’re bed bugs. I had bites on my legs after the first night. There’s no closet and you had to make your own bed.

The hotel was okay, we didn't look for something fancy because we had to stay just one night. The staff could be more friendly.

Good position, clean and hospitality
Easy for the metro

Big room and bathroom in Chinatown but close to the subway.

The sheets and bathroom were dirty. A lot of the place just wasn’t clean

We arrived at the hotel 2 hours before the check-in time. If you need to check-in early, you will need to pay extra $37 on top of the daily service fees. If you want to leave the luggages at the “front desk”, it will be right in front of the front desk and guest walking hallway. Due to this condition, we decided to paid the extra $37. Overall, the room is clean but it looked slightly different from the pictures provided by hotel.com. If you are looking for any extra towels and pillows, you are most likely aren’t getting it! Basically, the price you paid reflects what you get.

Staff did not follow through on their commitments to us. We told them via a phone call that we were arriving very late because of a flight cancellation. They sold out room to another person and it was not available when we arrived. They made no effort to correct this.
