The photos on the website were deceiving. Our room didn't look like any room they were showing. They should have taken their time updating the rooms. A quick coat of new paint doesn’t mask the flaws. The wood floors needed to be refinished. It looked old & dirty. The toilet was way to close to the wall & have to sit sideways so the paper roll holder won't hit you when standing up. The internet wasn't working properly so the TV wouldn't work. I am glad that I brought my Firestick. I used my hotspot for all electronics. The room had a mini fridge, not for your stuff but for their stuff. All liquor & snacks should be available at the bar not in your room. Besides that it was a decent hotel. I won't be staying there again.

As a frequent user of Hotels.com, I’ve relied on the site to be quite accurate. In this instance, the photos and description of this horrible hotel are incredibly misleading. This hotel is 2 star at best. The hotel is filthy. Mold and peeling plaster on ceilings. Stains and layers of dirt on walls. The pool and area are in desperate need of an upgrade. I highly doubt this hotel would pass any inspection. This is not a boutique hotel for LGBT+ visitors as advertised. It’s a party hotel for gay club kids.

Nice people, great location, decent rooms, pool was dirty around the inside walls which was a bit of a turnoff. The pool was cleaned daily (vacuumed) but the sides at the watermark were very dirty the whole time we stayed there.

Do not book this hotel. It’s false advertising and a total fraud

It was a nice hotel. Very close to everything. Instant fun vibes as soon as you walk in but wasn’t too loud. They have a pool, hot tub, restaurant, bar. everything you need

Ask that your room not to be above bar - heard music until 12 am. Very "adult"

I had an amazing stay everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Great location, super friendly staff, spacious room. We only stayed for one night but the hotel was incredibly loud at night, hard to sleep - doors banging, people talking loud.
Also we paid for a resort fee to use the gym, pool, facilities at the beach, sauna, but we did not use any of it. I think there should be an option for the guests, if you pretend to use it you pay it.

The housekeeping policy sucks. They don’t want to change the sheets daily and the bathroom was nasty the whole stay. Once I confronted the front desk they had sheets delivered to the room for us to change ourselves. Very unsanitary conditions

Very Small room, barely room to even walk and pics not as presented, Mold in the bathroom etc., Bad smell, half open shower door, Rusty hinges and old doors, old cracked caulkings throughout, Old and outdated, Not friendly staff. Definitely Not anything to give any star!

Location is very close to Ocean Drive and the beach. Property is very friendly to all genders. However, the mattress left me struggling, the pillows fell flat, the room doors in the facility slam hard and did so until at least 2:30AM and the walls were quite thin. Could be a good stay for many things, but I would not recommend it for a good night's rest.

The rooms are really unique; the hotel does ‘old school’ well with hardwood floors and art deco facade. The staff are responsive and nice, but the restaurant was, frankly, terrible. Breakfast was supposed to be included but was an extremely limited meal of scrambled eggs, beverages, and ONE mini croissant. Pretty meager. The pool and hot tub are really nice.

Mercy was one of the best hotel workers I’ve ever came across from the Time we checked in to the time we checked out . Loved the room love the review from the hotel window wasn’t far from the beach at all great walking distance . Would most definitely recommend this place to my friends and will also stay again

I pay with cash. They didnt had change to give me at that time. He said he was going to take to the room later. Next day i ask for my money and he said the money was going to be given to me in the chk out process. I told him i didnt want to have problems. He said it was going to be ok. I trust. When i did my chk out the personnel there didnt knew about the situation. They told me they put the money back in my credit card. This never was asked to me. As i paid in cash. When i got home the money was never put in my credit card. I continúe trying to comunícate with them but they dont answer not emails not but social media. And i felt very bad because the person of security was very insistant in putting my bags apart while i waited the taxi. I said no and he insist in a bad matter. Never would do this hotel again and not recommend to my friends. They stoll my money and treat me very unrespectful.

Nice hotel in a great location. Nice pool area and rooms are spacious.

My room and bathroom were a bit cramped, but that isn't a surprise for an art deco era building. Marlon at the front desk was extremely helpful throughout my trip.

Great staff and very welcoming. A few reasons why we would not return. 1. Pool was unheated and freezing, no one swam while we were there. 2. The hot tub was HEAVILY chlorinated and was like bleach cleaning bucket water, burned our skin and ruined our swimsuits after only 20 minutes, we would not get back in. Food at the pool restaurant was marginal, eat elsewhere. Great concept just not well executed. Doubt it will be still opened next year.

The hotel was not what was expected at all . The sauna was down , the hot tub was down. How could u advertise amenities and then it’s nonfunctional , the pool area was very dirty and unkept , lounging chairs and floor area etc . It was very difficult to get a decent nap in my room because the cleaning staff was very loud in doing her job. She kept slamming doors and running up and down the stair cases outside my room. This happened on a daily basis although I did complain about it . We came for the urge festival and getting some day time rest was not possible at all with the constant disturbance. We were charged a great deal for using the supplies in the fridge and snacks, I do not recall being appraised of this before , even if it was pointed out to us it was done in a manner of no emphasis being placed. This is very misleading and comes across as a rip off . Don’t put things in someone’s room if ur gonna charge for it. Have proper signage of ur rules and regulations or just have a mini mart .
The general staff at the kitchen was very nice and welcoming everyday , also the front desk staff especially Mr Anthony ,a very pleasent and kind gentlemen to deal with. The location of the hotel is the only thing I really liked .
All and all I am very disappointed in my stay at Axel , it’s my first time at a lbgtq friendly hotel and was really expecting more . I will never stay at this hotel again neither will I recommend this to anyone. Thank u

Hotel is great. Staff were amazing. Room was very convenient.
The breakfast was a let down to be honest. It was very disappointing.
Clientele were great so the guests and staff at the hotel overshadowed the small imperfections

My review is directed towards the owners, not the staff. The staff was very courteous and performed their jobs well and they got us checked in early. The property, however, seems severely neglected. I would almost get the impression it is in financial distress. All the outdoor furniture needs trashed and bought new. It’s awful. The pool is cold and dingy. Our elevator was out of order, the hot tub is down, the sauna is down…and we were even shown where these things are and not told they didn’t work! I’m not sure where almost $50 per day for a resort fee is going, because this place is equivalent to a Motel 6. The balcony room was huge decent and no complaints about it. However, the bathroom floor tiles makes you question if they are severely worn or just filthy. The water flows out of the shower and puddles in front of the sink, which was a hassle. I didn’t try any of the food because I read the previous reviews and I saw there was hardly a selection anyway. Luckily, we were only here two night before our cruise. I would not have stayed longer. The owners need to do an overhaul. I would not stay here again.

Overall, good value for area.
Food at hotel restaurant was my only complaint. I’m not a picky eater and only could eat a little of what they served.

This is my 4th trip and 4th stay at Axel Beach in 3 months. The staff is the best - super friendly and accommodating. Pool area is great (I wish it didn’t close at 8). Steam room is great, but rarely working - that’s annoying. Excellent location 2 blocks from the beach and 1 block from great restaurants on Espanola Way. Convenient parking garage within 1 block. Rooms are old school mid century - well preserved. Highly recommended.

giving four stars because everything was great except one of the bartenders at the pool would change the price of the drinks we ordered everytime. we got the same two drinks each time and it was a different total everytime.

Perfect for everyone who wants best use for their money (price/quality)

The stay was nice. The location is nice. The hidden fees are ridiculous and the only thing that was open was the gym which is super small and the pool. The thermal spa was closed.

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. Booked a reservation 6 months ago for two rooms only to get an email at 1am that they needed an updated card.i left a messages at 4am that we have a new card number. Never to hear back from them. We arrive at 10am and they have sold the rooms they say and are sold out. The rude staff at the front desk says unfortunately it happens all the time. Like it is no big deal we have no rooms. On all my years of traveling i have never once had a hotel tell me they canceled are rooms this morning and resold them. He then tells us that they have been sold out since October. I said yes we booked in April. He again said it happens all the time. We stayed here once before and liked the location even though the rooms were tiny and the pool music too loud.
We ended up across the street at the royal palm and told her what happened and she got us an amazing room. She was not shocked at all that we said about the axel hotel. Not the first guests to walk a corpse the street with a bad experience.
I would look elsewhere for a room.
Worst hotel experience ever.

The location is great, very close to the beach. The room was small but comfortable. The pool and hot tub area are pretty nice. The bar/restaurant staff were great, however the front desk staff weren't very helpful and check-in took way longer than it should have. Only one person was working at the front desk so I had to wait almost half an hour just to check in.

Our stay was not so good. Breakfast was a joke eggs, toast, coffee, juice only no protein. The room was small, 1 electrical outlet between the 2 beds and 1 behind the drawer. So that meant that we had to unplug some stuff just to charge our phones and ipads. The shower was not thought out properly. Half shower door which meant the floor was completely wet. Toilet didn't flush properly. They never had face clothes. Its a heterosexual hotel that i had no problem with they just did too much to make it uncomfortable. Not to mention to get them to answer the phone is a complete joke.

Staff was absolutely amazing. We stayed fir 5 days as i was in miami for surgery. They were so accomidating with filling ice bags and extra pillows so i was a comfortable as could be recouping. Only really enoying thing was the cross walk right outside our window. Eventually we got use to the constant beeping but the first night was rough. Cant wait to go back under different circumstances and enjoy the pool and noght life more.
