We LOVED our room the only suggestion is it could have used lamps on both sides of the bed instead of only one, it was a little dark.

Just north of the city of Wilmington, the Montchanin Inn is located in a quiet rural setting in the midst of historic Delaware landmarks. It's a good place to stay for the weekend or a business trip. You will need a car

I did not get the room I asked for and there was no breakfast as advertised and someone complained about me and my kids at 6 pm and instead of calling they started banging on my door.

Beautiful historic accommodations. Complimentary tea and coffee in the lobby and room. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite that was actually like a small house with multiple floors, a kitchen and 2 full bathrooms. A highlight of the trip was drinking wine in the lobby, with a fire in the amazing fireplace.

What a great little gem. 2 bedroom cottage was perfect. However, lots of steps and lighting after dark needs to be improved.

The property badly needs updating. The thermostat in our room was not functioning and the room got hotter and hotter. It was impossible to sleep, even with the floor register closed, fan on and window open. We reported the problem at 8 am the next morning, but we had the same problem the 2nd night. In addition there was no hot water in the shower. It was a miserable experience.

Place could be a four star property, but it needs to inflation of money to bring it up to that level. Some of the furniture was worn, a drape was broken and hanging, required a walk at night to get to our room, and it was before the outside lighting came on, but it was quite dark. It was difficult to find. It would’ve been helpful at the front desk person and offered to take us to the room give us a map and show us how to get there. It was difficult to see the signs in the dark before the lights came on.

The property was historic and quaint and decorated to commemorate the times, classic. The rooms were spacious, clean and charming with nostalgia. The staff were super attentive.

Exactly what I was expecting. Much better than staying in a hotel. Room was perfect and in excellent condition. Fine craftmanship appreciated.

We have been coming here for years and i have to say it’s deteriorated a bit. It’s still a nice place to stay with my kids but seems the touches it used to have , making it one of our favorite easy places to go, are no longer there. The carpets are also stained and the furniture is a bit shabby. There used to be happy hours on the weekends in the great room and that seems to have stopped. They also used to have bath salts in every room and that also is no longer a perk. The staff is friendly enough but on the morning, the woman seemed annoyed to give my daughter her “pack n go” breakfast which, to be honest, was rather lame.
Anyway, I think the hotel is in need of a refresher-
We aren’t ready to give up yet but we might not run as quickly to stay there.

The main lodge was attractive and the staff member we dealt with was pleasant and sympathetic to our issue. To get to all the rooms, one must navigate a steep section of the parking lot (I slipped despite walking slowly and carefully), cross a road, and walk a bit. To get to our room we then had to negotiate 12 uneven stone steps down, inadequately lit, without full handrails, then climb 14 steps to the entry level to our unit. The bedroom was up another 12 steps, some of which were like those in a circular stairway. Nowhere on the inn's website is this mentioned. My husband had recent back surgery and navigating this was a nightmare. We never would have booked this inn if we had known and I think the hotel is dishonest in omitting it. The staff member, when questioned, said that they heard similar complaints "all the time." At my request he contacted an off-site manager and after 2 phone calls she agreed to release us from the following 2-night reservation, so we stayed only one night. I can't believe our room would pass any ADA inspection.

We enjoyed the historic property. It is very well maintained! It is a beautiful village setting in a spectacular part of the Brandywine Valley area.

I loved the outside architecture of the houses and idea of a community housing in the late 1800’s
What was poor was the ripped lampshades , average bed with metal frame , no breakfast of fruit or a muffin that had been told by two concierges would be waiting for us in the morning . Yes, I know the brunch chef quit but still
Disappointing we weren’t informed . Rooms were

Well appointed, well restored classic regional architecture, adjacent to but removed from urban traffic and commerce.
Proximate to museums, parks and open space. The suite option was excellent.

Very lovely stay again. It was a cold, rainy night and defrosting in front of the fireplace and having a warm soak in the large tub made for a welcome start to an enjoyable evening and night. The bathroom is beautiful and spacious and has the feel of a spa experience right inside our own room. The bed is comfortable and one that you just don’t want to get out of in the morning. Already looking forward to our next visit.
