This place has 3 building next to each other that look to be owned by the same company. The first one is a nice recently renovated hotel that looks amazing. The one next to it doesn’t look so nice or bad but needs some work and I don’t know how the inside looks. The 3rd building is the $h1t hole I stayed in and my unit was bad.
You walk in and the first thing you notice is the old dusty humid smell. Every time we walked out and back in you will get hit with that bad dusty humid smell.
The furniture is out dated. The pull out mattress is basically a loaf of bread. Once you sit on it, it doesn’t get its spring back.
The showers were disgusting. A house centipede was crawling in the tub. Mold on the ceiling(which looked like it was painted over but still growing) tub was cracked and I had to shower with a towel on the floor because I didn’t want to catch who knows what was on that tub. The appliances look like they were from the 1990s. Never staying here again unless I’m staying at the newly updated hotel.

Extremely misleading. The pictures do not match the rooms, check out Google pictures instead. The “Deluxe Room” is for the old, musty, rusting and dirty rooms. Not the new building, I complained about the rip off and they said “it is what it is”. Hotels.com only offered a $100 credit even though I paid over $700 for 2 nights, this was a 2 star motel type room. Don’t bother booking here, better options near by.

The location is excellent! We walked to restaurants and shops plus you have the seals and park right there. Looks like a beautiful place for a weeding on the rooftop but if you’re staying there and near the rooftop the weddings are loud then you can hear the wedding guests milling around. There was a wedding every night we were there, even on a Monday night, and our room 508 was a bad location.
As for the room, it was clean and modern, but the only chair was a desk chair. The bathroom lights are on sensor so if one person gets up before another the lights come on. There were no hooks in the bathroom by the shower to hang your towel and the shower only has a rain shower head and to turn it in you have to reach over when’re your head is right under the shower head. Just a poor design.
It does have a nice pool and hot tub but the lock on the gate was broken so you have to reach over or under to open the gate.

La Jolla Cove Suites was great stay, great service, great ocean view we can hear the seals from our room. Ocean is across the street from hotel and lots of things to do.

Worst hotel I have ever stayed in, so old and everything is broken and miss matched like it was thrown together. Found numerous spiders in the room and all the furniture on the balconies were broke. Would never stay again. Place should be shut down and leveled, anything else there would be a plus

Stayed April 22-23. Room smelled extremely musty. Shower curtain was missing. Bathroom vent was hanging down with one screw holding it to the wall. AC unit in room did not work correctly. This was the old section of the hotels. New section is likely a lot nicer experience. Did not know there was a difference when booking. BEWARE.

Beautiful stay with oceanfront breathtaking views!

Pictures different from actual room. Old from 1970. No heat.

The wait to check in was long. Terrible signage for parking. Finally got keys and told we can’t park in the structure. So we go back to the garage and drive to the other “parking lot” with no signs cameras or security. Aware there are not enough spaces. The door to our “suite” is open. Our keys don’t work. Appliance’s embarrassingly old and peeling. We go out come back and as expected…no parking by the “suite”. We drive to the main garage. We are offered an upgrade which is kind of useless as we’d have to walk up hill, down to suite, pack our things etc. so we park in the lot and have to walk up the hill to get to our suite. Terrible smell as well. Not just cleaning products. Must mildew, bad bad.
Request a renovated room. Such a bummer to have a great view of the sea you can’t enjoy because the room itself and aggravation over parking and bad signage is too much.

Location is the only thing you pay for. Room is old, small and expensive. Basically the back sleep room of the suite that they just subdivided out.

We got a different from what I booked, I was told someone smoked in that specific room, so they gave us a different room that didn't have heat in it, I was told that they have portable heaters, that was a joke, then they they gave me another room which didn't have a microwave, it was a nicer room but I needed a microwave, I asked if they could put a microwave in it and they said no, something about the electrical issue and they told me if I needed anything heated up bring it to the front desk and they could heat it at the employee breakroom, talk about inconvenience, you are paying crazy money to stay here, besides the $27.00 a night to park at their hotel, To many questionable things i was told, and if you don't stay in the pine section your room is going to be old , I won't be staying here anymore, there is better options, the Cormorant hotel is right around the corner, I will be staying there next time.

beautiful view, but really needs to be updated.

My mom, sister, young daughter and I took a short girls trip. The location is great for sea lions in La Jolla, but the photos of the double king suite were nothing like our room. This place is RUN DOWN. Our room was beyond worn; beds had areas sunken in, every hinge, faucet and fixture was really rusted; the toilet never stopped running; the walls had areas of terrible drywall work - like the entire bathroom wall was bubbly and torn up and someone put some paint over it; the bath tub was rusty, filthy and gross, so I wasn’t comfortable giving my daughter a bath. The floors were dirty and turned my daughter’s feet black. Our curtains were torn, the heat/ac unit on the patio was rusty and filthy (just the ventilation I want to pump in) and balcony seating was mediocre. The elevator was gross with the light cover dirty and sagging, the wall covering falling down, shoddy paint job on the wood, etc. The young kid working was pleasant, he just didn’t provide any info on how to get to our room and, when we went back for further instructions, we got more nondescript instructions that weren’t helpful. I’ve driven past this place on trips many times and thought it looked cute and like a nice local spot, but we could have stayed at nicer hotels with comparable views elsewhere in La Jolla. This was completely overrated and the photos, being of the new part, were COMPLETELY misleading. We never could find the terrace overlooking the sea…

You’re paying for the VIEW. Right across the streets is a park where the seals bark 24/7. But, when you close the patio doors, it blocks the noise. Something that surprised me was there isn’t any USB port in the room, so if you go, bring a PLUG ADAPTER with you for your cell or laptop. There is a fridge, but no microwave. While at the park, you can get up close to the seals, seagulls and pelicans. We had a spectacular time. The only thing I would say is recommend is make sure you make your reservation for “the Pines“ as that is the new, an updated part of the hotel. The other half of the hotel is OLD, and not updated, and it looks it. I’m just glad we stayed in the NEWER half.

We were pleasantly surprised. We were in the area for work and enjoyed waking up to the gorgeous view. When something was needed, it was at our door immediately. The property is a great find

Can’t beat the location and view. Great rooftop hangout area. Room itself was old, outdated, smelly, bad plumbing, and overall depressing.

Since Covid the hotel has been in some type of disarray due to the modifications that are being made, the new side called the Pines is a very nice place to stay. We stayed in room 300 and it was very nice corner view of the cove and shoreline. Got to see some awesome waves this past weekend that we’ve never seen there ever before. We’ve stayed at La Jolla Cove suites many times and this was the first time we actually got to stay in one of the new rooms at the Pines. It is an older hotel, and it seems more like a motel Weiss a hotel. The remodeling is very nice but the insulation between the rooms and between the floors is very minimal so you hear every single noise. We were kept awake most of the night by someone walking heel to tow back-and-forth in the room above us. For the price it’s decent considering the view and that you’re so close to downtown La Jolla that you can walk up the steps and get up to Prospect Street for all the shops and restaurants.

The place you see on Expedia is newly renovated, but when I got there. They said it was wrong & I had to stay in the part that was old and falling apart. Doors made a loud noise when you closed it. So, the neighbors door was loud too & would annoy us. Also, the vent in the bathroom was fakling out the wall. Shower, toilet and restroom was all dated. Balcony had peices falling off. It was just a mess. I wouldn't stay here again. When I asked the receptionist if we could stay on the new side like the pics on Expedia. She said sorry we can't. We are all booked on that side for a wedding. Don't come here cause of the pics on Expedia. It's false advertising & either La Jolla Cove or Expedia should refund me for my horrible stay that was false advertising!

Everything is great. Just a reminder, there is an additional charge for the parking if you don’t want to park on the street. The parking overnight fee is $27 per day which is not bad at all.

It had a nice retro vibe and decor was fresh. Patio sliding door very hard to open, otherwise a great location and we had a great stay.

I stayed here in early February, and the room was freezing. Like, below 60 degrees. I couldn't take off my jacket. They have no central heating. They offered a small electric heater which wouldn't cover the area of the rooms. They moved me to another room, which was nicer, with heat, but I could hear everything in the adjoining room. It was if their TV was in my room, and they were talking to me. It should also be known...this property is next to the water, which is home to a ton of seals. That means you will hear them barking ALL night long. Even with earplugs, I heard them. Otherwise, pretty nice views. Charging for a bottle of water in your room always annoys me. Last thing, although the rooms were ok, the hallways and common areas feel very dated, very low rent.

This place definitely does not look like what is advertised. The building is in poor condition. The elevators barely work. The room was old, shower leaking, hairs in the shower when we arrived. The bed had a huge dip across it. We could not stay there and ended up finding another hotel. My assumption is that they are trying to renovate ( we did not get a renovated room), however, they need to do some serious work before renting out. The location is the only good thing about this place.

The hotel has 2 facilities. The first, very old, deteriorated, outdated, elevator in poor condition. The second, renovated facility, in good condition, spacious and well-equipped rooms. We booked in advance according to the photographs displayed on the Expedia website. To our surprise, when we arrived, we were accommodated in the old and ugly building. Scared, I asked for a better room, compatible with the reservation we had made. The guy who attended to us told us that he would check the rate paid, but that moving to new apartments would cost us a daily amount of US$100. We chose to check the modernized alternative that was suggested to us, and eventually even pay for the move, given the bad impression we had of the old building. We visited the new room, accepted the offer to change, but, given the rate already paid, the hotel reception confirmed that our accommodation would actually be in the "new building", without the need for additional payments. And I ask... how can a hotel make such a mess? From this negative impact, our experience was good.

Originally we were assigned to a room that was in the back in a bungalow, smelling mold and with very limited ocean view. This was totally different from what was shown on the Expedia web offer.

Not a bad hotel. Only bad thing I will say is that the walls are paper thin and block out no noise. I could hear conversations from the room next to me pretty clearly and also received a noise complaint at around 8pm when I was just watching tv and eating dinner. Heating in the new updated rooms didn’t work very well.

Upon arrival, we were upgraded rooms. Staff was so friendly with recommendations. Definitely recommending to others!

In January, we stayed in a two room suite that overlooked the Cove. The room had a vintage vibes, spacious, and clean. We had a private parking area that was short walking distance to Starbucks around the corner. Along the street were shops and dining options.
There was also a staircase that led directly to the street to cross to the Oceanside where the sea lions are.
The only downside was the I couldn’t get the heat working well. It was a little chilly but we weren't freezing.

We had an awful experience! I booked a $300 a night room and it looked like a $35 motel. We ended up leaving and looking for another hotel. They gave us a room in the old building, not the remodeled one. The room smelled bad, had spiders... it was horrible!!! Nothing like the pictures on the website. We could not find parking, it took us more than 30 minutes to find our room. Had to go up many stairs. I do not recommend it.

I would NOT recommend it, as they are dishonest. This property has two buildings - one PINE (renovated) and the other is a run-down building. Intentionally, the run-down building is kept out of the listing photos. The property listing should clarify and add a picture of the run-down building. When we arrived, we discovered that the actual building differed from the image in the listing. They charged me an additional $30 to allocate the room in the new building shown in the photos as the condition of the other building is pathetic. This is unacceptable. The staff said the room’s interior images are different. Are we supposed to know from the room-interior picture that the reserved room is not in the building shown in the listing? It is a scam and disappointing. On top of this, our room in the new building had a foul smell in the restroom. The exhaust fan ran for two days but had the same foul odor, like something broken in the toilet :( Except for the ocean view, nothing is pleasant with this property. We had the worst experience. There is too much hassle and no transparency with the fees. STAY AWAY.

Room 804 was pretty awesome it’s higher then surrounding buildings so the ocean view was quite beautiful
