This is a pleasant hotel that is on the more affordable side of midtown hotels. The staff is helpful and pleasant, the rooms clean and comfortable. While there is no restaurant there is very good coffee and bakeries within a block, and a refrigerator in the room. I've stayed there before, and I'd stay there again.

Solid stay and great price the central Manhattan. Would for sure stay again for a quick trip. Rooms were clean & comfortable.
Downside - not much going on in lobby, to eat, drink or comfortably work. Slow old elevators.

Our stay at the Gregorian was very good. The location of the hotel was great for walking to a variety of different places and our room was very clean and quiet - probably one of the quietest rooms I’ve stayed in during several visits to NYC. The staff were very friendly and the hotel itself had lots of character. One elevator was out of service during our stay so that made for some long waits but it was manageable.

Great location and very friendly staff.

The staff is OUTSTANDING! Honestly so attentive and kind. The hotel needs to be updated. It needs soundproofing and more amenities like coffee and a microwave. It has the 1920s feel but it should have modern luxury for the price.

Very nice hotel. Staff is always pleasant. Great location.

I love the history of this old boutique hotel in NYC.
This was a fabulous stay. Very affordable), quite quaint and comfortable with a storied history.
Quietest hotel room in NYC. Loved the friendliness of the staff. Much appreciated the plentiful refills of water bottles on a hot day. Vey clean.

I would not recommend this hotel. We had reserved a room with a king bed and then my son was able to come into the city to join us. My son doesn’t have a regular schedule since he works at ESPN. I called the hotel and asked to switch to a room with 2 double beds and they told me NO since I didn’t book with them directly. I called again and they said they didn’t have many rooms with 2 double beds in their inventory and would not switch us. I had my daughter call and the hotel told her that they had rooms with 2 double beds available for the 2 nights that we needed. Also, our TV didn’t work and we couldn’t get any channels. I asked a woman at the front desk to send someone up to fix the TV and she said she would. When I asked later in the day if someone had fixed it she said NO. I did say that we could get NETFLIX and her response was that it was then working. It was not. When I asked again about getting the TV fixed the hotel told me that someone was coming to fix it but that it would be after we checked out. My wife books meetings and events at hotels all the time and never has she encountered such rude staff. A hotel of what we thought was this caliber is supposed to make peoples stay better and more pleasant. This was not the case. I feel that since we booked through hotels.com we were treated like 3rd class citizens. I will not be staying at this hotel again or recommending to anyone that I know traveling to New York for pleasure or business.

The front desk staff at this hotel defy hospitality standards. They are rude to guests, untrained on the check-in system and either unwilling or unable to assist with guest needs. I had a reservation for the hotel and the front desk person argued with me that I did not. I gave him my name three times. He stated it was not in the system, with a great deal of attitude. I had to look up the reservation I made and show him the reservation. He was finally able to find the reservation. He was not apologetic at all. I understand systems can be difficult, it is the amount of disrespect that is projected at guests that I find distasteful.
The hotel itself is lovely but I would avoid it. They only have one working elevator and it is SMALL and SLOW!! Unless you want to walk up 12 flights of stairs. The only bright spot is the front door staff, they are polite, upbeat, and willing to assist with guest needs. It is a shame because I get the sense that this hotel could be a good place to stay, but the staff are not worth the headache.

Good place but it was noisy at night because of street work. I was on the 4th floor with a window and it was a good room. I’m used to noise in nyc. Bath was clean and the WiFi worked.

Hotel was nice and close to alot of great things. The only downfall was the elevator.....one was out of service. They are small and it took forever to get an elevator.
5.0
The TV was not working and despite multiple attempts to fix, we had to change rooms, I would recommend staying in a front facing room on an upper floor since the noise from the abutting alley is quite loud in the rooms when the equipment for the hotel is in use (which is constant) - we requested that our room be moved to an upper floor with a working tv and without the noise of the alley but this is cleanest hotel I have stayed in, in NY and would definitely stay again - hopeful the 2nd elevator is operational next time as the wait for the elevator in one instance was in excess of 10 minutes

Friendly staff and extremely comfortable bed. Will return and recommend. Also, was a great location to be close to the theater district but not right in the midst of it.

Staff at this hotel need hospitality training. Front desk associates are rude, untrained & disrespectful. The building is charming and would be a great place to stay IF and I mean IF they had two working elevators but waiting for one VERY small elevator is not what I would call worth the experience. The rooms are clean and the beds/ linens are passable for the cost. But with all the options in NYC, the staff really needs to work on their skills. I travel to NYC often so it’s not the East coast it’s really the staff. The bright spot is the warm and friendly bellman/doorman. The two that I came into contact with were helpful, friendly and cheerful. The front desk staff could take a lesson or two.
I would avoid this hotel until the staff is retrained and the elevators are working, honestly who needs the headaches!!!

The elevators need to fixed. One elevator for that hotel is not enough. Bathroom was really small.

Great location, clean rooms and the staff was incredible.

Highly competent and welcoming staff member at Reception means that we will look to stay at The Gregorian on future visits to the city.

I booked this hotel because it advertised on the website it has a bar (not open, permanently closed but no mention on the website) and has a restaurant on premises (but not open because renovated and not mentioned on the website) The elevator situation is the biggest complaint. It is so superslow, long waits and you end up using the stairs most times.

Comfortable and not far from Penn Station. Large comfortable room. Friendly staff. Would use again.

Elevator being down was a bit of an inconvenience but overall nice hotel! Great location and staff was very nice. Would stay again

Everything was wonderful. Rooms were great and a good size. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only drawback was one of the two elevators were out and the active one was not working perfectly. It is all supposed to be fixed by next week.

Excellent location, helpful staff, comfortable room, complimentary bottled water throughout the stay. One elevator was broken during our stay which delayed getting in/out from our upper floor room. There is no restaurant/bar or anything, and only a small sitting area in the lobby. Still, overall recommended for location and price!

Hotel was clean and comfortable. Room was adequate with two double beds. Difficult to get into the closet with one bed only allowing about 12 inches of walking space in front of closet door. There was a step up into the bathroom which could be a tripping hazard for some folks. Hotel had two (small) elevators but only one was working. Average wait time for the only operational elevator was 15-25 minutes. Maximum capacity in the one elevator said 11 per the sign inside of it. I'd say 6 grown adults fit well. Any more than that and you have to stand touching shoulder to shoulder (or closer) without any luggage. Not sure if I would truly say this is a family friendly hotel. Friendly staff. Good location near Times Square. Love that the hotel has been renovated to reflect its original charm. Future restaurant next door will connect to the hotel.

Wish I’d read the reviews and realised they have a long-term elevator problem - I wouldn’t recommend a visit until they fix this.
Hotel located close to Empire State Building:Macy’s/Herald Square subways. Friendly welcome at check in. “Superior” room quite spacious with king bed and sofa, monochrome decor. Small bathroom with fixed shower over bath and toilet seat touching edge of bath. “Eco” toiletries dispensers, but plastic water bottles and plastic cups wrapped in plastic are a bigger eco problem! Coffee in rooms or even lobby would be a good addition. BIG , big problem is one elevator permanently broken leaving one small, slow, partly-working elevator (6 people at a squash) to serve all guests (132 rooms and 12 floors) and all staff, housekeeping, making for very long delays - they really need to fix this. I was on the 12th floor, so the stairs weren’t an option and waiting was a very tedious waste of my holiday time.

Very nice location, very clean inside, nice for it to have a vintage fashion theme to the decor, it helps to distinguish it from all the more generic hotels in the area. Only real issue is that the elevator is slow and glitchy.

This is a great hotel, comfy with wonderful staff.
One Elevator was broken at my stay but I'll totally stay again. Great easy-to-access Midtown location. Wonderful staff

I was very impressed with every aspect of this hotel.
From cleanliness, room size, bed and bedding comfort.
It was close to Penn Station, Time Square and many tourist areas to include restaurant's cafes and pubs.
Macy’s was a 2 minute walk. It was the best value for the money which I can claim in a very long time.
Staff were all professional, friendly and courteous.
Only down side was one of the two elevators was under repair. I was informed it would be operational in the next day or 2. No in house restaurant otherwise 5 Stars.

I had the pleasure of staying at the hotel last year, shortly after they had reopened ( that’s what we had been told) and absolutely loved our stay. Every day we were greeted by doormen who helped bring our luggage to the room and also opened the doors for us whenever we left or returned to the hotel. I say all of this to say that on my recent stay, I noticed a lot had changed. There was no longer any doormen to help assist with our luggage, there was no one to greet us on our departures and arrivals and that was truly missed. I think it’s what set this hotel apart and why we decided to stay here again. There are definitely some kinks for them to work out (like the elevator being out and having to walk up 8 flights of stairs) but even with all of that, they are very accommodating and for the price you can’t be the location and the service. Once they get the elevator’s working in tip top shape and rehire the awesome doormen that used to work there, this hotel will be an unstoppable force. I do enjoy their cleanliness and that they service the rooms everyday! I should also note that the rooms are a bit noisy and that in some cases you will hear the people staying next to you and will also hear the doors opening and closing (if they don’t gently close the door). Oh and the rooms were nice and toasty when it was freezing outside. Will for sure stay with them again!

Great location, but no coffeemaker for hot water in the rooms, and broken elevators 😰😰😰 The doorman and housecleaners were LOVELY and made our sray as comfortable as possible.

I checked in here after a dreadful 2 nights elsewhere. This MORE than made up for it! Staff is experienced, helpful, friendly. Lobby is elegant, understated, classic. The property recently redone and meticulously restored. (Loved the letter chute by the elevator!).
Bed very comfy. Bathrobe was cozy. Work space is good, wifi fast and reliable. Old school bathroom, with shelf & room for toiletries.
To be honest, I hated to leave. My new favorite hotel in Manhattan.
2.0
This is a 3+ star hotel that could easily be 4.5 star with some changes. Service was wonderful, and location is central and easy. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and very helpful and quick to respond and several went above and beyond (including one gentleman who was handling baggage and he made paper airplanes for any kid he saw, and taught my son how to make them using up his own personal time). Room sizes for pricing are larger than usual in Manhattan. One downside was that only 1 elevator was operable and it's a typical NYC cozy elevator given pre-war building (which has great character) - just needed to plan accordingly for longer than usual waits to get up/down and be prepared to have some patience. Lower floors are easily walkable via pretty marble steps up/down if you're luggage is already in room. Housekeepng/Maintenance could have been a bit better - found an empty plastic cup between bedside table and wall, some staining on the shower curtain/tiles, and a lamp had a blown lightbulb and electrical switch that had not been identified or fixed.

Room 511 was 90% clean when we got there. There were some hairs on the wall in the bathroom. No big deal, it can happen. The rest of the room was spotless. We have open windows when we sleep and it was really noisy due to a broken fan outside. We got another room without any problems which was also very clean. We got brand new towels every day and the bed was also made everyday. Staff was very kind. Location is great with a 10 min walk to times square, empire state building around the corner, a target around the corner, and the topview hop on hop off bus also around the corner. If I ever come back I would stay here again. Great value.

I love that the hotel was close to every place that we needed to go to. The staff was wonderful and friendly, even the housekeepers.

This hotel meets basic needs. It's not a luxury or even elevated experience, which is fine for a night or 2. There were a few maintenance issues, one in my room's bathroom (sink did not drain), but otherwise it was a pretty average and uneventful stay.

excellent good value for manhattan
