Very friendly welcome and the traditional architecture is amazing. Great chef as well. We loved the lobster and the foie gras.

Beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting by the river. Amazing food in the restaurant. Plenty of choices for food options nearby. Attentive and friendly staff

We enjoyed our stay at the French horn. It has old work charm and the staff are excellent, friendly without being in your face. The feel of the place is lovely and right on the river. A sympathetic make over would be beneficial building on the charm and character of the place. The rooms were spotless, comfortable and spacious.
I cannot rate the staff too highly they were excellent.
The food is very good although expensive and the silver service faultless.
The only real downside is the road alongside the property but we were not disturbed by it and was quiet at night.
Overall I will stay sgain

Well my stay started off very promising, hotel reception called in advance of my check-in to see if I wanted dinner (always nice to get this call), on my arrival was informed I had been upgraded to a junior suite (again nice). I was shown to my room, it was very cold but I can live with that as I had only booked a few hours before arriving and wouldn't expect them to heat an empty room. I slept reasonably well but when I awoke early to shower & shave I was greeted with only cold water, It's an old building I thought so lets just let the water run a little..5 minutes still ice cold water..10 minutes again still ice cold this made for a very bad start to the day. I went to check out as I had already lost 15 minutes to my day by faffing about with the water I wanted to get going ASAP. I mentioned that there had been no hot water and was amazed at the response I got "well it is an old building" I will spare you the rest of this short conversation. My advice is do not stay here if you need to have a shower that is not ice cold!!!

Stunning location. Great service. Quiet rooms with great views. In the morning, just walk down the beautiful lawn, jump in the river and go for a swim.

Too hot for me though in general areas.

The room was a loft room and extremely hot. The bar was heated by an open fire, although the outside temperature was 25 degrees

Property grounds are beautiful and adjoining the river.

Different. To normal hotels.

The receptionist who is there in the afternoons and evenings is incredibly friendly. The other one, who is there in the mornings, is not, and is unpleasant to deal with.

My wife loves it.
Traditional, friendly.
Excellent dinner.
breakfast 8 minutes on last day - meant short warm up for race at Henley.

The service, the setting, the location, the food, all were nothing short of excellent. I was there on a business trip which looks like additional visits in the future. I will most definitely be booking this hotel again, can't recommend enough.

Lovely setting. Hotel bedrooms are a bit old fashioned but the service and attention from staff was second to none. Will definitely stay again.

From the moment I walked through the front door I was made to feel incredibly welcome and the staff went out of their way to ensure that our needs were fully catered for. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay in one of the Riverside Cottages and the breakfast was excellent. We hope to come back one day.

This hotel needs new towels and sheets - both were awful - full of holes and shredded, as was the bathrobe. The balcony outside room 7 was littered with cigarette butts and cobwebs and needs a good wash and clean up.
Disappointing as certainly not worth the price although the location was attractive.

Fantastic stay as always

If you are looking for a characterful property in an exceptional location with fantastic food and exceptional service then this is the place for you. If you don´t like quirky, whine about the cost of a meal, and want antiseptic efficiency then don´t stay here. It´s not perfect but it has so much character that you can forgive its faults. If you have a soul.

This is a lovely building and situated on the banks of the Thames. The staff are all very nice and helpful, there is free parking ( although you do have to cross an extremely busy road with no crossing). My room (6) had a lovely balcony and great views. The room was comfortable and spacious. I do have to add a few concerns however. The complimentary tea and coffee is bizarre. Most hotels have a nice tray in your room, not here you can only have it delivered in the evening after 7. Why I cannot work out. I was asked when I checked in if I wanted complimentary tea and coffee I said yes and was told it will be delivered between 7-8 pm? It was. Breakfast is also a bit different as you have to book it on a door hanger the night before. It is then delivered within a 30 min time slot the next morning. Trouble is there isn’t a dining table in your room just a coffee table. I found it uncomfortable to eat my breakfast this way. It would probably suit some. You can request eating breakfast in the bar area if you want to but it just feels a bit like they don’t want you to so I didn’t. The bed was big and actually firm but comfortable but you get a blanket! No duvets, this is just so wrong in my opinion. Biggest problem for me though was that the hot water was not hot!! The bath had to be topped up with 6 kettles of boiling water and it was barely tolerable. I did mention this and receptionist just said that it’s an old building! This needs to be sorted out. Not terrible but needs work.

WE visited The French Horn with a pre conceived idea of it being a bit run down, this was true to a certain extent but in a nice way . The web site really does not do it justice and would put most people off booking this beautiful old hotel. The setting, staff and amazing food more than make up for the very tired public areas and rooms. with a bit of careful restoration this could become a destination hotel as I am sure it was back in the day.

Although set in a beautiful location, we found the hotel rooms in need of an upgrade and the hotel very tired.
A ridiculous system for ordering breakfast, which was not up to standard and the evening meal didn't fare very well either.
Reception very dismal and small.
The hotel on the whole did not live up to when I had visited there about five years ago.

I was absolutely delighted with my cosy, very quiet room across the lane from the Main House & Inn.
This beautiful view of the Thames, in the (unusually busy) little hamlet of Sonnes is the perfect place for Exquisite lunches and/or dinners. (World Class restaurant is what The French Horn is all about!)
Be aware that the quaint streets & village are VERY congested & that the nonstop single lane car congestion does not abate until evening BUT you can't have everything is my motto. I cannot wait to return & stay longer!
