Paradise! A near-private beach that was about as good as Manuel Antonio (accessible only through two hotel paths). Winding paths through a private rainforest, relaxing pool with swing chairs. Delicious breakfast buffet. Rooms were quiet, could not hear any neighbors even though it was full during my stay. Balcony overlooked the ocean and the forest canopy.
I travel a lot (Marriott lifetime titanium) and this easily compared to some of the best hotels out there. Hope to come back one day.

Overall we enjoyed this hotel, we stayed in a jungle room with shared pool. There were however a number of negative points. Out of all the hotels we stayed in in Costa Rica (7 in total) I found the staff here to be the most unhelpful and unfriendly. They wore T shirts saying "I love my job" but mostly they just looked miserable! They refused to serve tap water in the restaurant and overall I found the restaurant to be very expensive for what I'd consider mediocre food.

We enjoyed our stay. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. The views are great, and so is the beach. Parking is a challenge. Did not like the restaurant, so taking 1 star off.

The staff was great! Elvis was welcoming at reception, Bayron steered us to a great day of ziplining and a wonderful restaurant on the way to Dominical. The entire restaurant staff was hardworking and friendly. We loved our stay!

We stayed at Shana by the Beach for 7 nights in a superior ocean view room. As mentioned in several of the reviews, if you have any kind of mobility issues or are in poor physical condition, this property is not for you. Especially in the ocean view rooms, walking to any other part of the property entails traversing a very steep walkway. Additionally, walking to the beach is rather steep with many stairs. They do have employees on golf carts assisting but they are not always around and they cannot assist with beach access. This property is not within walking distance of shopping or restaurants due to the steep, long winding roadway. If you use a taxi, it will cost you at least $10 one way to the neighboring town of Quepos & Manual Antonio. My 4 star review is due to these things along with some water issues we experienced on two separate days (absolutely no water for periods of the day). Pros for this property are: free breakfast, good food, great views, excellent service at the front desk and tour office. We also saw lots of animals (fiery billed aracari bird, macaws, toucans, spider & white faced monkeys to name a few). Bar and restaurant service was average.

Our stay at Shana by the Beach was a wildlife experience! Each day we had “ front row seats” to capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and toucans. Most of them were right in the trees by our balcony! The included breakfast was excellent with choices galore. Fortunately there were golf cart drivers to take us up the steep road to the restaurant and pool. Although there is access to a lovely beach in a cove, there is no way to get there but to walk. Going down is fine. The hike back up was tough on our 70 yr old bodies. Our room was spacious with a huge bathroom and comfortable bed. We would have enjoyed having a stronger output from the air conditioner. Even with the hike and not as cool as we like room, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will return

They got a lot of it right.... the staff works VERY HARD to make sure you're a happy guest and that its easy. I have nothing to complain about - i would definitely stay here again.

This property was difficult to get
to.
The Resturant was extremely expensive and the older gentleman that waited on us was rude and dismissive. The workout center was good .

Very nice hotel with good restaurant. The guy at the reception was very helpful and answered our questions without any issue. Even when not related to the hotel.

We loved the hotel, staff and hotel restaurant. But unfortunately we were put in the most horrible room, 228. The toilet flush did not work until Day 3 of our stay. There was a sewer smell in the shared pool area. The worst of all was that the room was located below the kitchen/restaurant area. We were woken up everyday at 5:00A due to the the restaurant setting up for breakfast with all the moving of tables, etc. Late at night we heard awful karaoke (I'm assuming it was karaoke from the staff) because the professional singer was quite good. We also heard a huge fight break out at the restaurant.
After we discovered that the toilet wasn't working, we asked the hotel to move us to another room. They tried to accommodate but they couldn't as they were fully booked due to the holidays. It got better after Day 3 as the toilet then started working (but, then again, we were only staying for 3 nights). When we complained about the sewer smell, they did light incense. If we were staying in a different room I may have rated this a 5 star stay.

Several issues with room but solved very quickly

What makes this hotel shine are the staff- especially the guest relations staff. Huge thanks to Nidia and Bayron for going above and beyond, always with a smile and a pura vida attitude. They made all the difference to our stay. Xavier in the restaurant also for remembering our breakfast drinks and always greeting us with a smile.
Hotel rooms are very clean and spacious. I would avoid rooms at lower ground level if possible, as other rooms are much more pleasant. There was also a sewage type smell around the adult pool on certain days, depending on the wind, which could make it unpleasant to sit around.
Breakfast is tasty and ample. There is a lovely view from the restaurant, which is otherwise slightly lacking in atmosphere. Be aware also that the hotel is built on a very steep hill, which could make walking from room to pool and restaurant hard for those with knee issues or mobility impairment, though helpful staff are always nearby with golf buggies. There are no lifts.

Beautiful location, nice walk down hill to the beach. Dry humid. Rooms very humid. Emptied dehumidifier multiple times daily.

Our entire experinece was pura vida. Rolanda checked us in and gave great recommendations for authentic, nearby restaurants. The room was big, modern and overlooked the bay, jungle and both pools. The adult pool and happy hour drinks, accompanied by the square-faced and capuchino monkeys were a bonus.

Very nice hotel and 2 pools. Great views and daily monkeys passing by. Service is excellent. Be aware that it is very steep there, so walking can be an exercise.
The room we had needs clearly an update with a rusty mirror and appliances.

If you’re looking for an English equivalent of a holiday in Benidorm it’s right for you…the room was clean - though not sure what the sheets were made of but they literally stuck to you and it felt like there was a kids bed protector that moved every time you did - awful!!
Your hike up and down the hill to the room a work out and most will struggle.
The bar playing load music - the staff too busy - not !! to show people where to get towels rather than just point - I mean playing on your phone and chatting is more important
The waft of sewerage by the adult pool surprisingly off putting
The beach they talk about is not that great - a steep walk up and down so will not suit all and lacks sand - lots of stones - go to the national park - the beach was stunning and only at the end of the road
the area is a magnet for tourists paying over the odds for food/travel and basically anything . The road leading to and from the hotel is on a steep hill and you take your life into your hands if you wish to leave the hotel…
Breakfast - was simply disgusting- the bacon could knock someone out and it reminded us of the cheapest cafe stop - even the jam was in plastic sachets - sloppy marg by the fryers - so bad we didn’t even bother on our last day
This hotel is definitely not the relaxing end to our time in costa Rica and we’ve learnt that the reviews I can only assume are fictitious- never a 9.2 and where they get a 4 star rating I will never know - 3 star at best

Spectacular views of the ocean and the rainforest at Shana by the Beach. The monkeys walking the grounds made the experience enchanting exciting and fun.
The food at the restaurant and complimentary breakfast are top tier. Loved the pizza and make sure to try the chocolate brownie with ice cream.
Shana also has private access to the beach and is a short drive to Manuel Antonio national park.
Shout out to Ian for awesome welcome to the hotel. Thanks again.

Love the ocean views, staff were so friendly. difficult Terrain for 80 year olds, and the area was difficult to navigate so we didn’t use our car. My biggest complaint was the lack of space for drying towels and raincoats.
Also, the area around the Shana was not a safe walkable area.
5.0
The Shana is a well maintained, clean hotel. The location is ok. Not walkable to anything but taxis are readily available. Monkeys are everywhere and we even say a sloth from our balcony. Breakfast buffet is excellent. Service staff are excellent and happy!
The pools are nice but the hot tub was not much warmer than the pool. The path to the beach is lovely but a little steep so you won’t find yourself going back and forth to the resort very often. Also the beach is not private so there are locals there who try to sell you food, chairs, umbrellas, jewelry, and massages. We got a shaded tent and 3 lounge chairs for $30 for the day. The beach and water are clean and beautiful.
We were a group of 11 with an age range of 12-80. The 80 year olds struggled with the layout of the property set into the hillside with steep sidewalks and the beach path.
The restaurant had great food but if you want a cocktail after 6pm, you need to get a table and sit down. The only bar scene at this hotel is happy hour at the pool bar from 3-6pm they have 2 for 1 drinks.

Front desk, bell staff and guest service was fantastic. Restaurant staff were the only concern. Location is convenient. Location to walkable secluded beach was scenic. Monkeys and sloths were great to see. Beautiful view from adult only pool. Can’t go wrong.

The hotel is in top condition. The location is 15mins from the national park and it has so much wild life around! We had white face monkeys and titi monkeys visit us on our patio all the time. Although they can be little bandits, we throughly enjoyed seeing them up close. The room is great and clean. Our bed was very comfortable. The ocean view is amazing. There are two pools, both in excellent condition and very clean. Staff at the front desk, restaurant , tour desk, and spa were all super friendly and helpful. Sometimes the service is a little slow but we still enjoyed our stay very much.

Stayed in a Royal Ocean view suite which was awesome with amazing views. Monkeys, sloths toucans and Macaws everyday. Beach is quick a trek to get down to and up as it is at the bottom of 100 plus step steep incline but is beautiful with calm waters. Restaurant is very good.
Would have given it a perfect score if they would have fixed the coffee maker in the room and if the air conditioner was quieter.

The staff were very nice and accommodating here, making the stay more pleasant. The rooms were clean and comfortable as well as up-to-date, adding to the overall quality of the stay. The wifi at this hotel is excellent. Very stable and fast. The best of any place we've visited during our trip.
A huge plus at his hotel is the adults-only area with an infinity pool, which I found to be relaxing. The infinity pool feature a great view of the rainforest tree line. The breakfast selection was good and fresh, aligning with the typical Costa Rican fare. However, we chose to dine out for all our dinners as the hotel's dinner pricing was a bit steep compared to nearby restaurants.
For dining options outside the hotel, I highly recommend Karolas Restaurant for both dinner and happy hour. They offer a better selection and higher quality drinks. Additionally, Vista Verde Restaurant is an excellent choice for experiencing fresh Costa Rican cuisine. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel for a comfortable and enjoyable stay.

The hotel and location was great, the only downside was that our room was right by the beach path and there was a window that everyone could look in because had no curtain

Shana had a bit of a mix up when we first arrived but immediately made it right for us. If just a couple traveling, I highly recommend the honeymoon suite!

Me and my husband spent 9 days enjoying Costa Rica. Shana was absolutely amazing. Everyone was so nice and they all remembered our names and made us feel special. Even the monkeys came to visit everyday and hung out on our balcony. One day we even had a sloth in the tree outside our balcony it was so amazing. We will definitely be back.

We had an absolutely delightful stay at Shana Hotel. The property is simply beautiful, and the staff went above and beyond to make our stay memorable.
The front desk staff were particularly helpful, providing excellent restaurant recommendations that added to our overall experience. What's more, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to an ocean-view suite, which made our stay even more special.
One of the most unique and enjoyable aspects of our stay was the daily visits from the monkeys to our balcony. It was a truly amazing experience and undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff members who made our stay exceptional. Juan Ruiz in the restaurant ensured we had outstanding dining experiences, Joshua at the front desk was incredibly accommodating and helpful, and Jairo, the driver of the golf cart, was an absolute lifesaver. My husband, who is still recovering from surgery and can't walk much, greatly appreciated Jairo's assistance. His availability to take us wherever we wanted to go was a tremendous help.
We can't recommend Shana Hotel highly enough. Our stay was filled with memorable moments and outstanding service, and we look forward to returning in the future. Thank you for making our stay so special!
