This was our final stop on a long drive from Greece. The hotel is seriously tired and worn out. The decor, carpets and furniture are all in need of replacement. We chose it as pet friendly and paid up front. We were then charged an extra £20 for having pets due to the steam clean needed after our stay. The dogs weren't allowed in the breakfast room so we had to have breakfast in the bar. This would have been fine had we not had to get our own cereals, toast, coffee etc., down two flights of stairs.

The room was clean but very dated. No TV remote control and poor TV signal.
The hotel had 2 events on and my room was on the 1st floor. The music was very loud and I notified the receptionist who asked for the music to be turned down. She was very helpful and friendly.

OK so you have to bear in mind this hotel is in Rochester which... shall we say is "rustic". And so this hotel matches the surroundings perfectly. It's basic, not pretty to look at, the carpets look like they were removed from a murder scene but the sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable.
The first two days staying there the heating didn't work. The room I was in faced the estuary so the rooms were baltic levels of temperature. However, the hot water did work. I'm not sure how it was possible but the hot water is as hot as the water run off from Chernobyl 10 minutes after it melt down and the cold water is as cold as the north sea. Trying to mix in cold water for the shower was a fun task of trying to find the sweet spot between hot and cold. I found it eventually, but it was about 1nano meter between 3rd degree burns or flash freezing myself.
I didn't eat evening food there partly because they don't do food on some nights of the week and well there's other good places to eat out anyway. Breakfast was limited to English or limited choice cereals. No yoghurt, no fruit, no pastries but there was plenty of tea and coffee.
I doubt I'll ever stay there again as it's unlikely I'll be in the area again but it will be a story to tell grandkids one day when I stayed in Rochesters answer to Fawlty Towers.

Cheap & cheerful. Probably could do with a spruce up in a few places. Can’t complain for the cost. Breakfast fresh & tasty.

Staff weee good, rooms dates but ok, breakfast very good!.... had a function in the hotel and music could be heard clearly in room, staff tried to deal with it and it eventually stopped but resulted in only a few hours sleep before an early start for work

Decent but dated hotel. We were unfortunate to stay in the superior queen room, which is spacious with a view of the river. The main issue was the bathroom, which had no provision for a bathtub curtain, making the bath water flow on the floor.

No real problem just dirty and in need of a refurbishment

Quite unpleasant room and hotel generally dirty, outdated, cheap, drab and depressing, 'wipe your feet on the way out' sort of hotel, I have no idea at all how there are 10/10 scores. £89 for the night was too high, at £50 I might have written it off as ' got what I paid for'.

I had a fantastic time at the hotel's birthday party. The environment is clean, there is parking space, and the hotel is not far from the town centre. The only issue I had was with the breakfast, which was not self-service.

Always a great stay at the George. Staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and well equipped with what you need.
Never had a problem parking, the location is ideal for my needs and a hot breakfast included. What else do you need.

The room I booked was ment to be a deluxe queen I don’t know what was deluxe about it !! Holes in the walls mould on the walls bath doesn’t work unable to shower bath door to room constantly banging due to not fitting properly

A big disappointment.
the "Queen" bed was actually 2 singles pushed together - the join being most uncomfortable.
The "designer" sink taps were actually just rickety copper pipes with all the associated mould and greenness around the spouts (didn't really want to drink from them).
A good clean wouldn't go amiss, dusty everywhere, dirty carpets.
Receptionist almost looked up from her phone when checking me in.
I know you get what you pay for but even so this isn't cheap for a cheap hotel.
I'd avoid it if I were you

The Queen room was good but pigeon noise in the morning was very annoying.
Car parking can be tight and the area seems a bit run down.
If you are on a budget the hotel is a good price.

Not a good stay, we only booked this hotel because we needed a two-night stopover and only planned to be at the hotel to sleep. I knew this wouldn't be a great hotel as it wasn't expensive.
The negatives - of the two beds in our first room one had fresh bedding one had bedding that didn't look like it had been changed in a while. We didn't complain and stayed in the clean bed. Then the TV started playing up and the toilet started leaking. We contacted reception who changed us to a new room but couldn't confirm until the following morning if we could use it for the second night. The second room had no hot water during night one but we gave up and used it.
The positive - the guy in reception was very good at dealing with us and the other people in front of me in the queue of people complaining. He did all he could. He was also dealing with the bar and acting as the server for the food at the same time. He was also dealing with the reception the second morning.

I liked the location and staff

We were disappointed with the cleanliness, warmth and service from this hotel. The breakfast was not a full English, more a half English. The beds were lumpy. We found a grape behind the bedside cabinet. The breakfast room was freezing cold. The car park was really small and accessed via a very steep slope. Spaces were not reserved for those staying there so when we returned one evening there was no space due to there being two parties being held at the hotel. We will not be returning

We paid extra for a river facing room. What this actually gave us was a smaller than average size room. As my wife said "it's a good job that we didn't bring a cat" as there was no room to swing one.The bed was uncomfortable and the television started playing loudly in the room next door (which was said to be unoccupied) at 5am. This was not a good introduction to Hotels.com.
We did not stay the second night and came home for a comfortable night's sleep.

I enjoyed my stay at the St George. And enjoyed the breakfast option.

Our room had filler patches on the wall, some rubbish down the back of the table near the radiator and blond hair in the bath. The hair dryer did not work. There was only one double plug by the tv. No main light just small dim ones. Had to wait ages to get served at the bar as no one was around. And then the morning we left, and hour before check out, housekeeper helped themselves into the room while we were in bed. Didn’t even knock.

Friendly staff. Room was clean and warm with a comfy bed. Bath was great! Good location, free parking and a cooked breakfast. I’m abit if a hotel snob, hotel is abit tired in terms of decor and furnishings but would stay here again as it’s great value for a one night stop over.

Stayed for 1 night.
Pros: well located, reasonable price, friendly, helpful staff, upgrade to a nice room with a view on 4th floor (we had asked in advance).
Cons: no hot water from the bath but staff member tried to help but it was Saturday night so not possible. Breakfast was chaotic with only 1 member of staff and about 20 people trying to get breakfast. Car park very small and difficult to park
Overall, I would recommend as this is a budget hotel and things generally worked well with very friendly staff doing their best

As usual our stay was very good. The room was comfortable and of a good size. The only thing that stopped me giving excellent was due to the poor shower. The breakfast as usual was excellent. The staff member who booked us in was friendly and customer focused

In winter, this property has no heating, bedding unsafe, never experienced anything like in my whole life. I have no words for this property other than unsafe and a business that scams people for service that I can not provide. Unbelievable.

I thought the hotel and breakfast were excellent value for money. There really should have been more staff on, the poor receptionist was running around trying to do everything. I would definitely use the hotel again for my stay in Chatham.

This hotel really needs updating. The bedrooms are not great. Dirty flooring in the bathroom, carpets are uneven, which are a trip hazard. We moved bedrooms twice then decided to upgrade to superior just to get a slightly better room. The best thing about the room was the view. We attended a Christmas party and food was average. Disappointed that there was no Christmas pudding for dessert only cheesecake. Breakfast was not great, food was cold and I had almost finished my breakfast by the time my husband’s came out. Lastly a member of staff that came from the kitchen area looked really dirty. Her uniform was disgusting. A bit of a worry when she is working in the kitchen. Would not stay again!

Welcomed by Conor on reception. He wa pleasant, friendly and very helpful. He also served us at the bar and we enjoyed talking with him. He has the right attitude and will go far in his career as he gets older.
Only downside of our experience was that the rooms could do with a little updating and the heating shoukd be controllable by the customer as opposed to being on a timer but over all the room was clean.
One more thing, get the ice machine fixed for the bar staff, its not good to have my gin and tonic without ice and embarrasing for staff to have to explain why. X

Very friendly welcome. Comfy room. Good shower. Great staff.

Mattresses very uncomfortable and need replacing. Service at breakfast was poor - breakfast served until 9am, turned up at 8.50 & the young chap told us there's only 10 mins til they stop serving and they would have to set a table if we still wished breakfast. The guy was very scruffy in appearance - quality of breakfast very underwhelming & then TV turned off before we'd left the room as if a hint for us to leave - really needs some lessons in customer service. In the room very noisy pipes, slamming doors & uncomfortable mattress.

The staff were lovely and very helpful but the room smelt horrible
4.0
Plus side: It’s easily accessible by public transport which made it convenient for us. It’s also walkable to Chatham High Street and train station. It came with a free breakfast. Room was adequate and clean. Material of the towel was lovely and of high quality.
Negative side: Reception staff needs more customer service training. Only 1 staff serving in breakfast thus service was very slow. Room we had, 301, was directly opposite the lift which made it quite hard to have a good night sleep because you hear every noise it makes in the room. TV has no signal so not usable.
