The kettle in the room was dirty so we couldn’t have a drink, when booking we booked breakfast was told on arrival that they don’t do breakfast anymore no compensation provided poor service

It's a cheap and cheerful B&B except no breakfast at the moment (probably because of the season). Lots of cafés nearby though.
Don't expect the height of luxury at £65 a night for a double room en suite.
The view was to die for!

Communication with the hotel, as the check in were friendly and efficient.
They sold us the room with breakfast, only to inform us that breakfast wasn't served nor were we given a discount due to the lack of breakfast. According to the sign in the room, breakfast would be GBP 10 per person (x2 for us). The room was basic, and if you're tall, be aware of the beams in the room. The shower was akward as we couldn't get it to a nice temperature - too hot or too cold as it was an electric shower, and not very strong. Also the paint was coming off and really needs some love and attention. On the positive, the views onto the sea were amazing. Location one row from the beach is greatly central. Just a pity about the breakfast and the state of maintenance

Very friendly and helpful front of house staff. Sadly no breakfast, due to chef not being around, but don't be put off as there is an indoor market 2 minutes walk away that do an excellent variety of meals, including a full English breakfast if required at a very reasonable price. The hotel itself is very tired but we got a sea view as requested. Priced a tad high for what it offers.

No elevator/lift. Stairs were steep and narrow. Older and mobility challenged people were put on third floor. Breakfast canceled due to chef being unavailable. Limited restaurants in area.

Photos on the website are deceptive. For what we paid we were expecting a sea view room but instead we had room 2 with the shower cubicle behind the door in the bedroom. The room was very hot and we were unable to open the windows. One of the window panes was broken. There was no space in the room to move really. The check in process was efficient but we did not try breakfast.

Rick, the manager, was very personable and helpful. Our room was small but had everything we needed. Breakfast was served in windowed area overlooking the south beach.

Great staff and easy stay.
The hotel needs an upgrade it’s tired.
Old fashioned electric shower in a tardis was crap.
Breakfast was great.

Beware: on booking, it says breakfast included. Upon arrival 10 Pounds are charged. This should be changed asap.
Although hotel requests confirmation of arrival time by phone, the phone often rings without anyone answering or going to voicemail. Getting in contact is thus very difficult.
The hotel is rundown and in the process of slow renovation. The room I stayed in was still in non-renovated form, including broken window pane...

Oh dear. See earlier reviews - this was out experience too. There is nobody in the house overnight. No hot water. Bathroom not properly cleaned. Limited parking. Rude staff. No breakfast. Bad area. You will do far better. Blamed Expedia and the old management for all their current problems...

We have been visiting Scarborough for over 15 years now and this hotel is a brilliant find.
We had the best sea view ever and the room was large and very comfortable, bed was lovely and comfy. Breakfast was very nice and more than enough to set you up for the day. Staff were great and very helpful. Have booked again for next year and will definitely be going again after that.

We had a small double room with seaview which was on the top floor of the property. The room was small as in roof void but was big enough for the two of us for the two nights we were staying. Kerry was extremely helpful and friendly and gave us a few suggestions for our stay. The property is fair old so floors creak but this added to the charm and wasn't a problem for us. The breakfast was good.

Lovely few days with a great view over the bay. Room and bed were both very small and perhaps could have been advertised as such.

Didn’t get room we was expecting to get so was disappointed, tiny, noisy creaking floor boards above and outside the door.
Shower was in the bedroom and not bathroom which was very strange and there wasn’t much room the move around
Our booking was lost when we arrived so we wasn’t on the system which meant we was given the last available room and wasn’t much we could do about it as there was no where else to stay after driving for 3 hours to get there for a short holiday.

Terrible property I don’t like leaving bad reviews but it’s never worth £72 a night room only!!! I stay away every week and can’t remember anything as bad

Great location overlooking the whole of the beach. Room small and bed tiny. We had quite an awkward sleep for a couple. Building old so floor creaks. Fine for a night. Very friendly staff.

The Mariners House has great sea views and the bed was very comfortable with very clean linen and towlels but overall the place was definitely in need of refurbishment (which the Manager told me was to be done before Christmas 2020). The area around the Guest House was interesting as it's in the oldest part of Scarborough but looks very run down and scruffy. Scarborough itself is a resort in a beautiful setting but, like many Victorian seaside resorts of today has seen better days. Shame really as we love it and have spent many happy times here over the years. I'm sure, with a good refurbishment and a way found to clean the outside windows (not easy from this height) it will be a great place. Good luck for the future.

Perfect view of the beach and beyond, however our window was covered with bird droppings which is quite unfortunate. Otherwise the room is nice and staff are very helpful!

Do not believe the good rating on here this hotel is very tired. It does have amazing views if you get a sea view, the young bulgarian girl was excellent, friendly and helpful. Breakfast...waited ages by the time it came toast was stone cold and breakfast was burnt when it eventually came and was just piled on to too small a plate. No one around to check you out so keys just had to be left on the side table which surely is a security issue.

This place is a little gem, everything was absolutely wonderful, Joe and the staff are all so attentive, nothing was too much trouble and the room was so comfortable with a view to die for, we had to force ourselves to go out! The description on Hotels.com just said 'a kettle' in the room but there was a kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate, lovely biscuits and two bottles of water. We stayed in Room 7 which had a very comfortable king size bed and windows witha panoramic view. The breakfast had lots of choice and the full English was lovely and fresh, good ingredients and hot with plenty of toast and tea or coffee.
We didn't want to leave, will definitely be back.
