The location, the free carparking, the excellent swimming pool, the lovely bedroom, the character of the hotel, the bocce court, the accommodating reception staff, the laundry facilities, the lemon water available in reception
The breakfast could have been a bit more interesting. Although adequate, the four breakfasts were exactly the same each day

Love the location! And the building is amazing - So beautiful! Staff was kind. And we got to see a show in the theatre off the lobby which was fantastic!
Room didn't have some "standards" like TV, AC, etc. But we were okay without.

Staff was very friendly and free parking
It smells and feels like a haunted funeral home.

The central location near the UC Berkeley campus, the architecture, the welcoming environment that made you feel like a member of a club. The breakfast inckluding the coffee was very good.

Public rooms are all wonderful. Bedrooms somewhat sparse but adequate and comfortable. Beautiful, historic building, and able to walk easily around campus area.
Parking fee was a bit pricey, and the bathroom was small but again, adequate.

Room: was a bit small but okay. We had NO hot water in the shower, so had to use the warm water from the bathroom sink to wash up.
No hot water in the shower.

Breakfast was good and the location relative to th Berkeley campus was great
The facility is an historic structure built in 1929. In order to keep the historic classification, little can be done to retrofit. Little has been done. Old small bathrooms, no air conditioning, old radiator heaters that came on by itself and made our room hot. Small rooms. Oh, and parking was $40 a day. We were not informed of this when we booked the room.

Room was good. Breakfast was excellent. Location, itself, was good BUT at evening time the street got darker, for sure needs MORE lighting.
Breakfast (an excellent one ) should be served up to 10 am. Outside the hotel, the streets need GOOD lighting.

Couldn't adjust the room temp.

Splendid architecture & facilities. Awesome choice for a romantic trip.
Unstable & lagging WiFi; Tiny desk that doesn’t allow anything more than a laptop standing on it; The room has almost no power outlet for laptop/tablet/phone charging.

It is a beautiful, historic hotel with an amazing pool. Couldn't get enough of the architecture.
Breakfast was lacking a bit and rooms were quite simple compared to the rest of the hotel.

So much charm in every detail here. Room size and furnishings were consistent with the historical building. Mattress on the firm side. Continental breakfast was delightful and far and away better service and food than I've ever had anywhere else. Parking was reasonably priced and very convenient to the hotel. The hotel is beautiful and worth a visit to see for yourself. A true feast for the eyes and soul if you're interested in California history and architecture. One of the few places I've had to wear a mask indoors if that's something you're considering. We didn't try any of the other restaurants, unfortunately.
The only thing that might keep me from visiting again is the shower. The smaller tub is fine but the full-circle cloth shower curtain did not stay put and I found myself wrestling a bit with the shower curtain that kept blowing against me while trying to shower. Not ideal. Also not the biggest issue.

Great location, unique and historic architecture, stately and beautiful environment. Front desk security is good
There was a very loud party going on at the dorm behind the property that impacted our ability to read, sleep or do anything in our room on Saturday night. Music so loud our windows rattled. The hotel was sympathetic it unable to stop it until the police finally broke it up past midnight.
