The Garni Rondinella was conveniently located near the lake and a 5 minute walk away from the rail station. There was a lift, which helped as rooms were located on the upper floors. I booked a single room with a balcony. My view was of the city, mountains, and lake. The room was smallish, but very clean and adequate for my stay as I was only there to shower and sleep. The wifi was fine and the air conditioning was quiet and worked wonderfully. It was true air conditioning. Bed was comfy and the bathroom roomy. The staff was very friendly; check in and check out was efficient. My one small issue was that I was there on a Friday night and somewhere below me was a gathering with music and a singer who went on until about 11:30. That's the only item that's keeping me from giving this hotel a perfect score. An added bonus were three gelato shops within the block! Locarno is a beautiful location--there's so much to see and do here and I prefer it way more than Lugano, though a day trip there isn't a bad thing to do. I was here two days, I could have easily enjoyed 2-3 more.
Just didn't plan on musical entertainment in the evening :)

the location is great, near to the lake, old town, funicular, bus and train station.
the room was spotlessly clean. the balcony with awning and air con were good.
the facilities are quite out of date, it’s pretty basic.

Location is top! For a short stay I really can recommend this hotel. The bed is really comfy.
The hotel is a bit outdated but everything still works very well. The rooms aren’t soundproof so you here everything what happens in the hallway. The windows should be shut during the night because of the noisy street in the morning.

The location is beyond perfect, right at the lake. Right at the ferry station - could not be better. The staff is friendly and Wifi is strong.
The furniture and interior is a bit dated. However this does not take away from the great stay that we had. You will enjoy your stay!

good location right on the lake - waking distance to Locarno main strip - close to the main train station
1km walk to the Lido for gym and wellness
small fridge in room if you (like me ) wish to stock it with your own breakfast items from Migros/Aldi which is close enough to the hotel to walk to
**not to be disparaging about property - but just so travellers are aware**
•front desk guy had not one word of English - which I found strange for the hospitality industry.
•this really is a 2* hotel which needs a serious refresh unless the experience of 1986 makes you feel nostalgic
- although it was clean in fairness, it still had a grotty kinda feel in the whole building.
*the room was quite uncomfortable and the single bed in particular was akin to a camper bed in regard to comfort , worst of all the pillows were the size of small seat cushions and highly unpleasant to sleep on.
I actually dreaded going to sleep each night and slept terribly for the most part
*the whole check in/out reception area had a one flew over the cuckoos nest overtone to it , hard to describe until you see it you’ll know what I mean
*restaurant underneath and proximity to Main Street meant noise at night from revellers
all in all, if I had have known the standard of comfort prior to booking (a friend recommended it ) I would have chosen another hotel for a more enjoyable overall experience
***please note , staff were fine (except the language barrier) , no suggestion of poor customer service , no suggestion of shoddy treatment …it’s just a 2* star cheap hotel and it reflects that in my opinion.
if you are on a cheap budget and not too pushed on comfort then knock yourself out .
I personally would never stay here again .

Location was perfect. Our room was excellent. Breakfast was average.

The situation is great, at 5 minutes from de station and 2 from the lake. It’s well soundproofed and therefore quite calm. The room had balcony which is nice. The people were nice.
The pink colour of the room make it look cheap. Not enough plugs (none near the desk). No luggage rack which would have been nice for a short stay, big wardrobe though.

The Hotel is very centrally located. It's 250m away from Locarno Harbour as well as the "Lago Maggiore" and the same distance to the SBB Locarno train station. Many parking places around. We arrived there with my Motorbike and we found a place easily. Equiped with a nice Restaurant, the hotel is also situated in the City Center of Locarno and walking distance from "Piazza Grande".
Getting a free pass during your stay in the hotel allow you to discover the city around as well as the famous place of Ascona.
Our room was great. Our room like many others had a lovely balcony with a nice table and 2 chairs to enjoy a glas of red vine in the evening. Fully equiped with a large TV screen, a dryer, very clean and confortable it was exactly what we needed.
I would definitly recommand this place to anyone and would certainly book again a room in our futur trip in this area.
The personal were very helpfull and willing to help us to enjoy our stay.

The situation of the hotel is absolutely top even the entrance is a bit hidden if we don't pay attention. It's almost in the front sidewalks of the lake near to the railway station, next door to restaurants, shops and the official ship and funicular tourist counters...everything just a few steps away.
10 minutes to walk till the Piazza Grande only.
My room with a balcony facing the lake on the side was superb.
The Ticino tourism pass given free from the hotel was absolutely a great present indeed !!!
The bed was small. The television channels aren't to variety except in Italian.
The cleaning team forgot their dirty cleaning cloth next to my bed, it might happen but this little thing shouldn't happen anymore.
There wasn't any real warm friendly goodbye greetings from the owner and employee as I left the hotel, it seemed that they didn't care about my stay... Such as " goodbye and hope you have enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again...." etc...

Mobility
Room provided in back side. So, view was not good.

The breakfast is basic but good enough. Family run hotel and the owners go that extra mile to make you feel at home. The location is very central and close enough to the train station.
