Stunning hideaway - Wild Atlantic Way, Beara Peninsula, West Cork
About this house rental
Our house is called Domhain Eile - Gaelic for 'another world' and that's just what this is! You will love this house which is bright and spacious with beautiful contemporary styling throughout. Most of all you will love Domhain Eile for its dramatic vistas overlooking Hungry Hill and Castletownbere, Bere Island and Ardnakinna lighthouse, the Atlantic and Bantry Bay. The photographs provide some sense of the sheer beauty of this location. FLEXIBLE BOOKING - you can book to arrive/depart any day of the week (sometimes useful to avail of mid-week flights). HIGH SATISFACTION RATINGS - We invite you to read the reviews of previous very happy guests - don't just take our word for it! THE LOCALE : The rugged and unspoiled Beara Penninsula in West Cork is often described as one of the most untamed and beautiful parts of Ireland. Domhain Eile provides an opportunity to experience this lovely part of Ireland. Our house is 1.5 miles from the fishing port of Castletownbere (well served with supermarket, restaurants and pubs) and is on the famous Beara Walking and Cycling Trail. There are good restaurants in Castletownbere serving a selection of fresh local fish with a varied menu. A bit further away in Glengarriff there are several restaurants ranging from fine dining to casual bar food. Kenmare is famous for it's gastronomic delights and is teeming with superb restaurants. The villages of Allihies and Eyeries also offer great food. Local life: Although it is a small town, Castletownbere is the largest white fish port in Ireland and a bustling working town in a picturesque location. Capacity: Domhain Eile has capacity for up to 9 persons so the house might suit two families. The kitchen is well-stocked to allow you to self-cater during your stay. This is a great house for children - they will love exploring it and the garden and will have lots of room to play indoors and outdoors ( toys, books and board games are included). Golfing: There are three golf course's in the immediate area (caveat - the author is not herself a golfer!) There is Bantry Bay Golf Club which is open to visitors and is a Christy O'Connor Junior designed course and I am told there are stunning views across the bay at many of the holes. There is another golf course at Glengarriff which is a 9 hole park land course with terrific views across Glengarrif Harbour. There is a links course in Castletownbere itself and at least 2 other courses within 20 km of Glengarriff. Enjoy your golf! OUTSIDE THE GATE - we are just metres away from the Beara Way walking route and Derreenataggart Stone Circle is a short walk down the road. Turn left or right at our gate and you will find yourself immersed in nature and gazing at panoramic views.

Stayed a week with my family for the last week of September. The house was perfect, with everything we needed (Cora, the owner, was also great with communicating with us, thank you!). The view from the patio on top of the hill overlooking Castletown Berehaven and Bere Island was incredibly beautiful. The house is close to town and a short drive to the West shores of Allihies and the Southern stretch down near Dursey Island. All around a perfect 10 spot, highly recommend this magical place.
P.S. - Keep this place a secret, the most beautiful part of Ireland on our two-week tour was this place, Beara Peninsula is a hidden gem.

Will be returning
We arrived for a family reunion and we’re bowled over at the beauty of our view. My extended family admired it so much that I have to send them the listing! Next time there’s even a hint of another gathering we will be booking this place before the rest!

Stayed for 2 glorious weeks. Couldn’t have been happier with the house. The minute we turned into the drive that creeped down to a breathtaking view, we knew our time at Domhain Eile would be memorable.
The house was spotless with everything needed for a great summer holiday. We are keen cooks and the kitchen came equipped with everything needed, also a great big table for family board games. The bedrooms were big with views from each room. Plenty of extra towels and sheets for a 2 week stay. Great WiFi for the teenagers.
Castletownbere is a wonderful location , with access to lots of activities. We enjoyed them all-swimming, pier jumping, scuba diving, kayaking, horse riding, hiking, cable car to Dursey Island, Allihies beach. Star adventure centre. Bantry Boat Charters, all So easy to get to from Domhain Eile.
We hope to return again in the future.

Great location for exploring Bere peninsula. Lovely view. Very well equipped house with lots of space for everyone to relax. Comfy beds!
Only downside - WiFi was a bit hit and miss and you need to look after your own garbage disposal

Beautiful house, amazing views!!

Wonderful house with fabulous view. Beara is quiet relative to other peninsulas on the west coast. A hidden gem with stunning scenery. Terrific for walking, and eating out is great value, when you can get a lobster dinner for €20. Will definitely return.

Lovely quiet spot
This is a lovely, well-equipped house in, it feels like, the middle of nowhere. A great place for our family reunion. The views are to die for! And there is a prehistoric standing stone in the garden too. Thanks for a fantastic holiday.

Beautiful Home and Views
This home is lovely and spacious and the setting is just beautiful
Nearest town Castletownbeare has everything you need
The entire peninsula is breath-taking and well worth taking the coastal route even tough sometimes hairy with drivers -but you cannot miss it
The home is well equipped and has everything you need
Really lovely sitting outside in evening watching the ocean, beare island
You can also see the town from the house
only negative and really small - the lower oven we had problems getting to work -but it didn't interfere with the holiday as there is a top oven
However it was a fabulous location and the hosts have thought of everything to make your stay really brilliant

Lovely comfortable house in a stunning location
Myself, my husband, our 12 year old son and our Labrador dog stayed in Domhain Eile last week (1st week in July 2017) and we would highly recommend it. Its a lovely, comfortable house with everything you could want to make your stay enjoyable. The house is well maintained and clean. It's got 4 good sized double bedrooms - one with a double and single bed. The kitchen is well equipped and the dining room has fantastic views. The sitting room is a lovely cosy room with an open fire. Outside is a lovely well maintained mature garden with a great large patio with absolutely stunning views over to Bere Island and down to Castletownbere. The town is a short drive by car and has lots of places to eat and good pubs. Everyone we met in the town was so friendly and helpful. A car is definitely essential for this house and there are lots of lovely drives around the Peninsula and over the mountains. The Healy Pass is a must see. Thank you Cora for a lovely week.

If you want secluded, this is the place to be!
If you want secluded, this is the place to be!
The house is positioned in a very remote little village with breathtaking view!!!!
The cottage itself is big and yet cosy.
The rooms have a nice atmosfeer. There are 2 bedrooms that sleep 3 persons and 2 bedrooms that sleep 2.
The kitchen is a bit of a hazzard in operating stuff but you'll work it out!
Owners are very helpfull and always prepared to advice in anything. You are also provided with a manual of the house and know-how sheet.
We absolutely loved our stay, you do need a car in this aria and don't mind a drive...

Home away from home
The house was wonderful. A wonderful place! It was clean, well equipped, and spacious. The views from the house are fantastic. The town is quaint, but quiet, and the people are friendly. The areas nearby such as Bantry, Garrish Island, Glengariff, I highly recommend. The drive through the Caha Mountains and pass are spectacular, and shouldn't be missed.
It is a nature lovers' paradise. However, be prepared to do a lot of driving, as Casteltownbere is quite a drive to everything.

Home from home
I can't sing the praises of Domhain Eile highly enough, our third visit in as many years, a comfortable house in which you can relax and feel at ease in, peaceful and tranquil but not totally isolated. We love exploring the area and found so many unspoiled little gems and walks, coves and beaches....... we are keen photographers and were kept very busy and were once again very lucky with the weather.Already regretting that we wlll not be visiting in 2015.... but we will be back.

Second visit .... Just as fantastic
We said we'd be back....... and once again the house and area were everything we could have wanted. If you want a real get away from it holiday, this is the place, with the added benefit with a small town minutes drive away. Scenic drives, picturesque towns and villages, walks for all levels with stunning views, friendly people, fantastic food, not as expensive as everyone seems to think and a comfortable well equipped house to relax in....... already planning dates for our return next year

Wonderful Irish Stay
We enjoyed our stay in Domhain Eile tremendously!! The home was clean and well-maintained - the caretaker met us upon arrival and showed us how everything worked. When we had to call her regarding the internet she came over immediately and fixed it for us. We were so thankful to have such a beautiful and well-stocked kitchen that we ate in almost every night and then enjoyed a cozy evening reading by the fireplace. The Beara Peninsula was stunning and we took every opportunity to walk on the Beara Walking Trails. Thank-you Cora and Laura for a wonderful relaxing week!!

Get away from it all
We stayed for a family holiday in early August 2011, the house is excellent with beautiful views of castletownbere, and the owner and her local representative were very helpful. This part of West Cork is away from the main tourist trail and so is very much unspoilt and if you want a holiday to get away from it all and an extremely nice house to stay in this is the place for you.
We had a great time and will be back again next year.

Our stay in Another World
We had a wonderful short stay at the end of September. The town of Castletownbere is charming, the Ring of Beare challenging to drive and well worth the effort, especially the Healy Pass. The wonderful accommodations of the house make for a relaxing visit in the countryside. It was clean, well furnished and quiet, with great views of Bantry Bay. A garden rabbit visited us each morning. The fresh seafood at Murphy's was well prepared and promptly served. The 30 minute drive to Glenfarriff seemed to get shorter each time we made the journey and the sweaters we purchased in town get noticed by all our friends. Laura was prompt on our arrival, showed us the house, all the features and was there to see us off. Warm towels in the bathrooms, fluffy duvets on the beds and well appointed kitchen made for a stay we'll remember forever.

Fabulous Holiday
A beautiful holiday home on a beautiful penninsula - it doesn't come any better than this. We have just completed a week's holiday here. Domhain Eile is everything one expects of a first class holiday home and more! With a family of 4 children aged 2/12 to 11, the house was very well equiped with kids games, puzzles and DVDs, and being spacious, was very suited to giving everyone their own space and time. It has superb views out over Bere Island and its lighthouse. It is equipped to a very high standard, meeting all the possible needs of a family on holiday. The outstanding natural beauty of the area will complete a perfectly relaxing holiday for all. We enjoyed our holiday so much in Domhain Eile that I have already rebooked it for 2 weeks in July 2011. In reality, that counts for more than all the words I have just written.

Marvellous flowerish views !
Irish people met are very friendly, thanks Laura ! The ways are beautifull and flowerish, very clean. The house is very spacious, cosy and more than well fitted out ! But a car is needed.
We liked visiting Kenmare, and passing time at Twomey's ivy bar for an irish set dancing !
We absolutely recommand this location !

A great stay in Ireland
It was our first journey in Ireland. First of all, we were very well welcomed by the correspondent of the owner of the house. She was at our disposal and in our listening during all the stay. « Domhain Eile » is recent, very well equiped and in excellent state, and corresponds perfectly to the supplied description. It benefits from a magnificent sight on Bantry Bay and Bere Island. Its situation allows to make magnificent walks without needing to take its car. The town of Castletownbere, very pleasant, is in 5 minutes by car and there is all that you can wish: restaurants, pubs, night club, supermarket, pharmacy... We have children, and teenagers among them, and they really enjoyed their stay.
In conclusion, a great stay, in a fabulous region, and in a very comfortable and welcoming house.
