About this house rental

VR PERMIT # 181003 ONLY A 4 MINUTE WALK FROM BEACH HOUSE TO SAND! This delightful 3 bedroom/2 bathroom two-story, pet friendly home is new to the rental market and features huge ocean views of the Monterey Bay! Beachgate-on-the-Bluff overlooks Seacliff State Beach and beach access is just down a trail (literally, adjacent to the property) which leads to sand and surf, and the Old Cement Ship!  From here, you can walk on white sandy beaches in either direction to Rio del Mar and beyond or Pot Belly Beach and Capitola!  What could be better than following a big day outside than an easy stroll to Manuel's for chips, salsa and margaritas (and of course, an ice cream cone at Marianne's for dessert).  "Beachgate-on-the-Bluff" is perfectly suited for 2 families traveling together, and is pet friendly! Seeking the woods?  The Forest of Nisene Marks is less than 10 minutes from the house, as is the historic town of Aptos.  Santa Cruz is 15 minutes North by car, and the Monterey Peninsula is a 45 minute drive South.

The location and neighbors were wonderful. We had 6 kids and two small dogs for a brief stay and overall things worked out well. There was enough space, beds, supplies for our comfort. The house is older (broken cabinets and tiles), reminds me of my grandmothers home in the bay area growing up. We cooked our meals at the house and had all the kitchen equipment needed. Stores and beach access were a nice walk through the neighborhood. Disappointments were that the beach trail shown in photos is closed due to the storms and recommended that the site be updated to reflect that. The beaches are still being cleaned up so some sections of the beach and walkways are closed for hours at a time. The balcony fence is high so you can't see the ocean sitting down. The tables and chairs outside are not clean, chairs need cushions and are stacked up and tables are caked with dirt and bird droppings. As we walked the neighborhood, there are balconies with nice patio set ups that gave us ideas on what we would want next time. We would definitely return to the area and stay in a another house where the outdoor set up is more inviting. The charge for the dogs was added on an invoice by email after I selected the property so beware that the price quoted on the site does not include it. We also paid a chunk for laundry which isn't needed for a short stay so I suggest considering that in your search, our first time booking on VRBO, lessons learned.

Being from Oregon, the house rental experience was different than what I am used to. However, our relatives that live in the area were quite impressed with the house, location, and views. The mattress in the primary bedroom needs replacing. There needs to be more and larger coffee cups, especially since there are two coffee makers. I think there were 2 teaspoons and the rest were table spoons. I could go on with little details but the overall experience was good. Plenty of room for 8 of us. The location is very handy to groceries, restaurants, gas station, etc. as well as all the activities available in the Santa Cruz area. The neighborhood was quiet during our stay between Christmas and New Year. There was a path and stairway down to the beach right next to the property. The views from the big windows is outstanding, one can see all the way to Moss Landing on one end and to Pleasure Point on the other end. Sunrises and sunsets were lovely and watching the storms and ocean was great as well. My sister-in-law is interested in renting the house in the future.
