The Tall Spruce House Elevation 6,639 Feet 7 Bedroom/4.5 Bath Sleeps 25 5,000 Square Feet Bedroom 1 - King Bed, Sofa Sleeper, Twin Rollaway Bedroom 2 - King Bed, Futon, Twin Air Bed Bedroom 3 - Two Twin over Full Bunk Beds, Futon Bedroom 4 - Two Twin Beds Bedroom 5 - Queen Bed, Twin Rollaway Bedroom 6 - Queen Bed Bedroom 7 - Full Futon This grand home features many great amenities and is the perfect place for a large gathering in Durango. Conveniently located just 15 minutes north of downtown, and 20 minutes south of the ski resort, your group can enjoy a number of activities with ease. But with all the things to do right at the home, as well as the wonderful mountain views, you may not want to leave! The garage has lots of outdoor games to play in the spacious front yard such as croquet and badminton. If you are in the mood to relax and unwind you can take a soak in the private outdoor hot tub located on the back deck. Inside the home you be enchanted by the charming farmhouse theme and will find lots to keep you busy like books, movies, and music. There is also a small game table and lots of games. A large, fully stocked kitchen and plantation dining table means everyone can come together when it's time to eat. The living room features a gas fireplace great for cooler weather, plenty of seating, and a pool table. Three of the bedrooms are also found on the main floor. The first two each feature a Queen beds and share a Jack and Jill bath with tub/shower and double vanity sink. There is also a Twin rollaway bed in one of the Queen bedrooms if needed. Just off the living room is the futon bedroom with TV. This bedroom has access to the deck with hot tub. Upstairs on the second floor is where the remaining bedrooms are found, including the two Master Suites. The first Master Suite has a King bed as well as a sofa sleeper, and features amenities like a gas fireplace, in room TV with DVD, walk in closet, and a private balcony overlooking the front yard framed by the famous red cliffs. It has its own private bath with new updated double vanity, large jetted tub, and standing shower. An additional Twin rollaway can also be found in this room. The second Master Suite also has a King bed plus a futon, in room TV with DVD, and a private bath with tub/shower. Another bedroom on this floor has two Twin beds which can also be made into a King bed if desired*. The final bedroom on this floor is perfect for the kids with two Twin over Full bunk beds and a futon, plus an in room TV. There is a full shared bath with double vanity and standing shower located on this floor as well. For convenience washers and dryers can be found on both the lower and upper level of the home. Finished in tile and granite, Tall Spruce House is professionally decorated and beautifully furnished for an atmosphere of casual elegance. Completely equipped with linens, towels & kitchen utensils, it has everything you need to provide for your total comfort. Parking for up to 10 vehicles is available in the driveway. AC is available in the living room, master bedrooms upstairs, and between the lower bedrooms downstairs. This home is dog friendly. Approved Dogs are allowed with a non-refundable fee per pet based on size/type. Please let us know about your pet(s) when inquiring or making your reservation. We were a group of 15 and this property was perfect. It had everything we needed and the location is ideal for skiing and hitting the hot springs after. Definitely would come back.

We were very happy with the layout of the property. The rooms and bathrooms were comfortable and spread out enough for privacy. Loved the large kitchen and dining table. Enjoyed the hot tub as well as the pool table and gaming area. The master suite was spacious and having the extra room made it more relaxing. The property is easy to get too and just far enough out of town to feel like you are out in countryside.

Big Beautiful house in great location! We enjoyed our stay here! This house was clean, has lots of room for a large group and a well stocked kitchen. The teens had lots of fun using the ping pong, fuse ball & pool tables. We would definitely stay here again!!

My children, grandchildren, and I stayed at this beautiful house for five days this past July. We enjoyed the time spent here. The house was clean and spacious. The rooms were attractively decorated. It was perfect for a large extended family. We loved the tall windows looking out at the mountains.The kitchen was one of the most well-stocked kitchens we've ever had while staying in homes.. The second fridge/freezer in the garage next to the kitchen was a great help. The house had toys and games for the kids. The garage had fun games and activities for the kids to play with outside. We especially loved the two outside patios. We loved playing board games on the large front patio table while the kids played on the huge lawn. I can recommend this house as a great place to stay.

Extended family stayed here for a week for an event in Durango. The setting was beautiful! There were several living spaces inside and out that allowed us to spread out when needed, but also gather together for meals. The kitchen was well-stocked with all of the dishes and utensils we needed, and some extra items we hadn’t expected—a very pleasant surprise!
We did have to get a little creative with sleeping arrangements since our group was mostly adults, but the futons, roll-away beds, and foam mattress topper all helped make it work out!
We definitely enjoyed our stay and would recommend for other large families!

This home was close enough to town yet far enough away to enjoy the red cliffs. We had the perfect number of bedrooms and we were able to cookout one night and enjoy the well appointed kitchen and huge dining room!!

We had our whole family together at Tall Spruce Tree House and we had a wonderful time. The house and yard easily accommodated us and the kids had a great time playing outside. What a beautiful area and home! We enjoyed exploring Durango and the train ride to Silverton was a highlight. We all felt comfortable and at home, thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

Pros: The home was beautiful and more than enough space for our group of 10 to move freely throughout the houses without feeling like we are on top of each other. House was fully stocked with more than enough cookware, dishes, utensils, and glasses to make home cooked meals without any issues. Home is equipped with lots of things to keep everybody entertained.
Cons: the beds were pretty bad and left the majority of the group with back pain by the end of our 4 night stay. The house has SO many rules…. No shoes allowed in the house, no eating OR drinking in the living/ game room (but there is a mini fridge and the pool table is there?). They have a pretty hefty check out process where you are expected to do at least 2 loads of laundry (for towels) and you cannot leave a load running in the washer when you leave, only the dryer. They also expect you to shock the hot tub every day after you use the hot tub….. they do state they can deduct $$ from your deposit if rules aren’t followed…
Overall though, we had a nice stay here with a beautiful view of a snow covered mountain. Location was good, about 20 min from both downtown and Purgatory. We were just not prepared for such strict rules once we actually got there.

We were three generations including two families with friends and one older person. The home accommodated us very comfortably. The house is well-appointed and was extremely clean. It sits halfway between Durango and Purgatory. They provided snow removal. We would all recommend it!

This beautiful, spacious compound was home base for our family for a few days. Close to downtown durango and to all the gorgeous hiking trails. Our family made lots of wonderful memories!

The property is in a great location and had plenty of room for the 15 of us to have together time and our own space. The kitchen is well stocked including grills and many items you may need for cooking.
There are lots of games, toys, and things to do at the house so if you didn’t want to leave there would be plenty to do.
We rode the train, went to Mesa Verde and hung out in the historic part of Durango all of this was within a doable distance to the house.
We did bring two tiny dogs with no issue and there were a few baby gates in the garage available for use. There are stairs to the second floor but also in several bedrooms so the gates are really important for babies. There was a high chair available in the garage as well. We brought our 16 month old daughter for reference and had no issues.
We would definitely return… not only to Durango but to this house! Beautiful views, beautiful location and beautiful property.
If there was one thing to be aware of, the front yard is long but there is no fence and the traffic moves pretty quickly on the road in front of the house. The front yard is where you hang out as the back yard is really just a hill… we managed but if there was a fence in the front that would have made me feel a little safer with dogs and kids.
I read reviews about the in house temp, we had no issue. It was pretty warm outside during the day and we felt comfortable in the house. We opened the windows in the evening and it felt great.

We loved this house! We had 16 friends together on a hiking vacation. Loved the property and the size of the house! I will say, for adults who are 30+ in age, 16 is about the max you can do comfortably (if you like a little privacy and actual beds). We had three in one master bedroom (futon + king bed), four in the other master (king + fold out queen), two in one queen room, one in one queen room (trip leader=privilege LOL), two in the twin bed room, three in the bunk room, and one in the futon/hot tub access room. The bunk room is really not the greatest for more than two adults with luggage, since there is no closet or hanging rack.
Otherwise, the house is impeccable, the furniture comfy, the internet is easy and fast, it's not far from everything. and is really nice! There is a maintenance man who put out the trash and picked up apples from the apple trees, and we also think fixed a broken window crank while we were out. Thanks again!

The house, property and location were wonderful for our family reunion. We very much enjoyed the leisure amenities available (badminton, volleyball, corn hole, pingpong, fusball, spa, pool table, and puzzles). The kitchen was well equipped and spacious. And the Colorado rockies were great for hiking and photography. Thank you for making it available and for your support.

We had a family reunion and all stayed in the house. The younger kids loved the bunk bed room. The family with an infant enjoyed the second master suite to not wake others. We enjoyed the spacious master suite for our own quiet time. The kitchen was well stocked with all the pans, dishes, and utensils we needed for meal preparation. Overall, totally enjoyable!

Worked Great for Us
This property worked great for our family get-together. We especially appreciated that there was a bedroom for each family plus one that the kids could use if they wanted to sleep together. We enjoyed the outside eating area, the availability of yard games and inside games & puzzles. It was conveniently located so we could easily get to activities in Durango (train ride, rafting, fish hatchery, restaurants) or head out north to explore the area near and at Silverton. Would suggest checking the kitchen supplies then going to the grocery store because there are a lot of basics items already available.

The highlights included a raft adventure, trip to Mesa Verde, and a ride on the Durango to Silverton train. This was a great place for a large family. We had an Easter egg hunt and family reunion and it was amazing, with plenty of room to spread out and be comfortable. There was nothing we found wanting. We rented this home in place of a trip to Disneyland due to COVID and we couldn’t have been more pleased! The home was beautiful and welcoming! We had some plans to do other things but ended up spending a majority of our time in the home playing pool and lawn games on the beautiful lawn! You cannot go wrong in staying here!

The outside yard and deck was used for yard games and relaxing, beautiful backdrop and grassy area. The pool table/bar/living room space didn't get used much due to an odd no-drinks-allowed in that room policy. Bedrooms were all reported as comfy and functional. The two large bedrooms were great. It's an older and very large house and has its various small issues like cranky windows, sticking doors, broken blinds, worn out grill and so forth. The hot tub has a limitation on its heating and wasn't ever "hot" only warm, so it was used only once. But overall, this was a perfect home for our large-group hosting needs, we were pleased to have been in it, would use it again.

We rented this home in place of a trip to Disneyland due to COVID and we couldn’t have been more pleased! The home was beautiful and welcoming!
