Spacious but cosy wood cabin with good kitchen and warm shower. Good location for access to tours and restaurants but quiet with great view. Friendly owners.
Slightly flakey communication about tour bookings. Tap water not drinkable but same elsewhere and filtered water accessible .

The people who greeted us were helpful and kind. They gave us a lot of helpful information and helped with carrying luggage up stairs. The beds were comfortable. Amazing views of wildlife right off the patio.

Everything! The beautiful wood the cabin was made from, the amazing huge balcony overlooking the ocean, the spacious and well stocked kitchen, the comfortable beds, the location so close to town and the beach, and the AC!
The cabin is at the perfect height to watch scarlet macaws flying by. Amazing.
The staff were awesome and the room was cleaned daily. They also helped us organize the boat from Sierpe and the tour to Corcovado.
Nothing really. If I had to suggest one small thing it would be to have a fan outside.

Arrived via boat and Ema was waiting on the beach as stated in our instructions. He took us to our cabin which overlooked the bay with stunning views. The lodge itself had everything we needed for our stay, was extremely clean and in the perfect location.
Highly recommend booking the guided tour to Corcovado NP (Sirena station) with Javier.
Ema's restaurant recommendations were also spot on. We only wished we could have stayed in this paradise longer!

Location was perfect for meeting tours at the beach, happy hour at Roberto's, and walking distance to restaurants and grocery stores. The view is absolutely stunning, with hammocks strung up on the porch to take it all in. One morning we woke up to 14 macaws in the trees surrounding. Sheets were soft. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. The owner and the folks at Jacamar were helpful with setting the boat from Sierpe and tours, answering any questions and helping with bags when we arrived and departed. Would stay there again.
Nothing was a major detractor - if you book with the expectation that the cabin is on the rustic side you'll have a great stay.

View was amazing from the front patio (and bed!). Patio also had plenty of seating, outdoor sink to clean dishes (keeps crumbs and ants outside of room), additional outdoor shower and feet wash handy for after tours. Room was extremely clean (daily maid service). Useful clotheshanging line in front. Host went above and beyond by providing patio fan that we asked for. Most comfortable bed we slept in while touring 3 weeks in Costa Rica. Host did great job coordating both Cano and Corcovado tours.
Hard to come up with any improvements needed. The indoor air conditioning worked great, but my personal preference is to use a fan - an indoor fan as well as one outside on patio would be great as a way to cool down, and keep bugs away while enjoying the beautiful view.

Wonderful view and location overlooking Drake Bay within walking distance of restaurants and super markets. We went to sleep to the sound of waves and woke to the sound of birds. Paradise. The beds were comfortable and the cabana adequately equipped including ground coffee and shampoo so the owners have obviously taken on board feedback in previous reviews. This is not a luxury spa hotel so don’t expect a steaming hot power shower, but we were very comfortable here. Above all this, the kindness and responsiveness of Emmanuel and the property owners when my partner injured her knee was lovely. A great place to stay.

The cabana itself is beautiful; it was very clean, has a full kitchen that is well-stocked with dishes and utensils to do your own cooking, has a wonderful view and porch, and feels pretty solitary despite being surrounded by other hotels and cabanas. Emanuel was a great host, he was very friendly and helpful. It is very conveniently located to the beach, where many of the different tours take off from.
There are a lot of stairs, some of them quite steep, to get to this cabin; and the climbing is made more difficult by the heat and humidity. It would not be good for someone who has limited mobility. While it isn't a far walk to most of the restaurants and stores of Drake's Bay, it is an uphill walk. This cabin is also part of another hotel, Hotel Jacamar, which is about a 10 minute walk up the hill from the cabin; there is no immediate front desk.

N/A because we had a self catering kitchen in our bungalow so we bought and cooked our own breakfasts and dinners and went out to lunch. Fabulous view from the balcony overlooking the bay and wonderful birdwatching! The owner was very friendly and helpful.
Accessibility was difficult...we had to climb over 100 stairs to get to the property. The climb up and down made going out to dinner problematic because of the climb back up in the dark. Some of the stairs were hard to climb because there was no hand rail to hold onto and part of the climb was on a dirt pathway. Fortunately the booking agent had someone carry our luggage up the stairs and down when we left. Thank you for providing that service!!!

The location was great with a panoramic view of Drake Bay and above the road noise. The room was spacious and clean. While there was a coffee maker and fridge in the room, so we could have breakfast before early morning excursions. Day manager and owner were very friendly and helpful. We stayed 4 days/nights and really have no complaints.
The great view came at the cost of 85 steps in each direction. This could be arduous in the heat of the day and/or with luggage; but not a big issue for us.

right on the beach, big and comfy room with AC. quiet
the value for money could be better I guess, but perhaps it’s Drake Bay and the high season effect

The view was amazing. there was a three in front of the Terasse where Pelican & aras came every morning. The room is not moderne but bed very confortable & super service. Which made our stay excellente!! we recommend to stay there. we enjoyed so much the view, calm & wild life around the hostel. we also needed to cancel the last night linked to trip issues and they give us money back, thank you a lot for this flexibility!! they also booked all our trip (Corcovado & snorkeling). thank you!

Very nice and comfortable bungalow just in front of the sea with a fantastic view. I have spent hours sitting on the porch, watching birds, aras, hummingbirds passing by. I could even spot iguanes in some trees. The view on the sunset are beautiful. It is also only a few minutes from the beach so it's very practical to go on guided tours, which leave by boat on the beach in the morning. The staff has been great, helping us organizing tours in La Sirena on in the mangrove. They also helped us carrying our heavy luggage on top of the stairs going to the bungalow. I strongly recommend, everything was perfect.

Excellent location on the hill overlooking the beach. Lots of birds around (pair of toucans flew past us on arrival, lots of macaws overhead), plus capuchin monkeys on the tree nearby, agoutis and toads around. Welcome jug of fresh orange juice on arrival and owners helped us crack open some coconuts. Coffee maker, fridge, plates, cutlery and glasses all provided. Excellent air con and wifi. Place was very clean and comfortable with very large bed. Could sit out on veranda or hammock with excellent views Owners/staff helped bring bags up to the room from Jacamar check in and down to the boat dock and were really helpful. Excellent stay.

Perfect location with lovely view in Drake Bay.They helped with the organisation of the transfer and kindly offered us help to carry the luggage up the hill, so do not worry about that! The owner Don Emiliano is super friendly and really helpful. He was a ranger in the park for 40 years and is therefore really knowledgeable about the animals and their habitats.

My friend and I loved everything about our stay!
The lodge has a beautiful view of the beach and is super well located (5mins walk to the beach and restaurants). It’s also very spacious and was super clean. The owner Emiliano was incredibly kind and sweet, and the staff too (shoutout to Leo)! Thank you for making our stay memorable 💛

Cabana actually looked better in person that on photos. Bed was huge and very comfortable. Everything was very clean and even though we didn't expect it, it was cleaned every day. It was easy to walk to the beach. Great position on the hill so it has a nice view and it is also very quiet. I loved that it has a sink in front and I loved the sitting area in front. I would totally recommend it. I appreciate that we could park our car very close.
It was a bit hard to open/close the main door but it is not a big deal at all. I actually totally liked everything.

The location in front to the bay and the host, Leo, he was extremely kind and friendly helping us with the luggage, giving us great tips and nice conversation.
Nothing to add :)

Beautiful view of bay and surrounded by trees with interesting birds: macaws, trogons, tanagers, motmots, woodpeckers. Wonderful verandah with hammock, polished wooden floor, nice wooden furniture. Very comfortable inside, large kitchen with everything you need, large shower with hot water, even washing machine. Staff super helpful and kept the place spotlessly clean.
Nothing I can think of.

There's so much to say about our perfect stay at Ara Macao. If you're looking for well appointed, spotless, comfy beds, million dollar views with charming hosts, then this is the place for you. Very good wifi. Hot showers. If you stay in the larger family cabin, it comes with a basic but well functioning kitchen, and even a washing machine and spin dryer (it is the tropics after all, but it definitely did the trick)!
We were met from our boat from our "wet landing" by Leo, who gathered our bags from the boat and drove us 50 meters up the hill to a closer point to our cabins. Leo was a wonderful host/fixer, who made sure we were well taken care of, took us to the market up the hill, booked our tours, and just overall looked after us. Jenny is who I communicated with through our booking and was equally responsive and helpful! The proprietors, Emiliano and Cecilia checked in on us, and had a pitcher of fresh starfruit juice waiting for us upon our arrival.
Our cabins directly looked over Bahia Drake, which was perfect for the early. morning "meet on the beach" to grab our boat to Corcovado - the whole reason why we came to Bahia Drake.
Our only disappointment was that we only stayed 3 nights. Had I know what I find this would be, we would have stayed another 2.
**Fun fact** I do feel responsible to share with everyone what the boat arrival experience is. In all my reviews I never read anything about this. But... if you are coming from Sierpe, you will take a boat down the river for 1 hour, where the river mouth meets the Pacific Ocean. NOTE: It's definitely a harrowing experience, The Pacific Ocean waves are breaking at the river's mouth. The boat captain has to both ride and run the waves to get the boat to the other side of the break. You travel in tandem with another passenger boat (ours was about 7 minutes after us) for safety reasons.
Our stay was perfect. If I had to say anything I would say that on the smaller cabin I would have liked a hammock in front, and inside a small table/chair to work from.

Pictures understate how terrific this place is. It is a (steep!) 2 minute walk up from the beach where the water taxi drops you. The cabin is rustic - think a lake or mountain cabin in the US or Canada from the 70s - but clean, well appointed and with a good kitchen. It's the porch and the views that make the place however - the views are truly stunning and the bird life every day is as good as any national park.
Nothing really could have been better about the place. The town is a little lackluster with very limited food options but the place itself was terrific.
