This is a beautiful hotel still run to exacting standards of cleanliness and service. Well located and business friendly yet very relaxed. We loved it. a waterfront room in the new building made waking up special.

Stayed one night in the E&O. Great room, comfortable bed, all amenities. The aircon was brutal and was the only time I felt cold (but I’m from Scotland so that was a good thing!). Staff were lovely and the food was great. Location overlooking the sea, at the edge of the historic old town was perfect, as I’d arranged a food tour. Nice touch was free soft drinks in addition to free water but I didn’t take any. One slight complaint - the fridge smelled a bit - I suspect a previous guest had smuggled in durian, despite the warnings.

Fabulous hotel full of heritage charm. Beautiful infinity pool overlooking Andaman sea in the Victory wing. Great choice of food.

A lovely colonial hotel, showing a few signs of wear, but still fantastic. Great pool area and breakfast.

This is the third time we have stayed here and we were not disappointed. Friendly helpful staff and excellent facilities, located within walking distance of other amenities.

All aspects of E&O Hotel were outstanding. We could not fault it and we’re constantly surprised at the amount of care to detail to ensure all aspects of customer satisfaction was ensured.

Nice and unique building with friendly staffs.

The hotel had a colonial feel about it and it’s ambience is excellent. The surrounding is peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The sea view from my room was breathtaking The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurants offered a variety of choices which I liked. The only critique I have is the shower stall needs a door to prevent the water from splashing to the bathroom floor. I recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing vacation.

We stayed here about 12 years ago in the heritage wing (the other wing wasn’t built). We loved the experience. This time we stayed in a corner suite which we would ask for again if we come back. It has a wide veranda and you can open the three large floor to ceiling double doors for a glorious cross breeze without the need for air conditioning. The entire experience is grand without being perfect - if you want that go to a sister building - Raffles in Singapore which we also stayed at this trip - but you’ll be paying three or four times as much. The staff at E&O were lovely although we did have a few minor hiccups - all sorted though. I do feel the food let’s them down a little (except in Sarkies but not everyone loves a huge buffet), but I do not wish this to be seen as a complaint - plenty of other places to eat locally. All in all a great time and we hope to come back.

I arrived at noon to check in but was told room had not ready. Staff offered that they’ll text when the room is ready but I never got a text.

A beautiful historic building, The suite was amazing, huge bedroom and lounge, luxury bathroom.
A lot of amenities at the property.
The breakfast was superb.
The free canapés and cocktails from 6-7pm was also great.

Large, traditional, hotel with decent facilities at the top end of town. Unfortunately when we checked in our room had not been fully serviced and was missing the safe (!) This was quickly rectified and a safe was bolted in position without much delay. Breakfasts were excellent- good choice of food and plentiful. Sadly, we have left on a negative note as the hotel charged us for the room when we had already pre-paid. They were very apologetic when we alerted them to this error, but the refund only appeared on our bank statement after we reminded them 10 days later. Unfortunately, the exchange rate had altered and due to the time it took to refund, we are left out of pocket. Not a huge amount, but they have failed to respond to my emails when I reported this. Disappointing to be left in this situation.

Great location with very good breakfast spread. The sea view from the room is awesome. But hotel room is dated and needs upgrade. The curtain is torn, furniture is worn out and the 32 inch tv does not work very well.

The over stay is fantastic. Very typical of a 5-star heritage hotel (well keep for something over 100 years old).
However, the main let down is some of the room connectivity (bedsit USB outlet, or even mains outlet). Housekeeping is slightly lazy (did not refill body wash, shampoo, and body lotion) ....
Did I mention breakfast was GREAT. Food is so good (even by Penang standards).
The pool on 6th floor at the Vic annex wing is fantastic. Gym is fantastic. Equipment is very up todate.

Service was very good, all staff was friendly and helpful. Massage at the spa was truly excellent. Corner suite was extremely spacious with a large balcony showcasing a great sea view. Location in George Town was convenient and walkable, but with traffic about 40-60 minutes from the airport. Some of the food dishes and offerings at the restaurants were the only disappointment - they were not in keeping with the level of quality for which the hotel is striving and advertising.

Was not aware that victory annexe and heritage wing is treated as separate hotels, but breakfast was great, view from the room was awesome and the pool was also a vibe.
Slightly disappointed that VIP benefits were not accorded due to full occupancy and was also sad that we could not see the pool from the other wing but thats beyond their control. Perhaps the difference between two wings could be better publicized :)

Very beautiful property in a good location. Friendly staff and prompt service. Highly recommend staying in the Heritage Wing.

If you go to Georgetown, you must stay at this hotel. We went for 2 suits in the old part, as family trip with teenagers. Love the service and walkable to dinning. Free valid parking and great service. Dream back to the past and enjoy your stay.

Disappointing and overrated.
- staff don’t remove shoes before going to room
- we found one cockroach and one lizard in the room
- fridge/chiller did not work and when I asked I got a lecture on the difference between chiller and fridge (instead of getting help)
- food at the breakfast is good but a lot of smoke, they need to update the ventilation system
- bad smell in some part of the hotel - including the swimming pool (people smoking there)

Room 008 was not in good condition. The inner sliding door leading from the sitting room to the bedroom was spoiled and the main door latch had its screws loose. We informed the front desk in the morning of day 2, but no one came to check during the duration of our stay. We are very disappointed.
At the same time, however, we found the hotel to exude a restful environment and the restaurant staff to display high standards of professionalism.

This is my second stay at E&O. The first time i was there, my then fiancé and i thought this was perhaps the most romantic place in Penang. Everything was perfect from service to amenities.
Second time around, it was rather disappointing. The rooms were dusty and not well prepared. There were no towels, bottled water and clearly the floors were not swept. Its rather obvious that they are understaffed and could not service the guests fast enough.
The crew and team are hospitable as always. However, room cleanliness can be improved.
Both instances of my stay was at the Victory Annex and not the Heritage Wing.

Clean, beautiful and comfortable.
