Situated in Tremont, this charming entire house for £317 per night is a great choice for your next break. Slate House is a spectacular and unique post-and-beam artist's home, located in a private wooded setting just around the corner from the picturesque village of Bernard, where the town dock and local favorite restaurant Thurston's Lobster Pound is located. The colorful and comfortable interior has a large, open living area upstairs, along with a fabulous kitchen equipped for the gourmet cook, a cozy master bedroom with beautiful tiled shower, and a deck outside the bedroom door. The downstairs bedroom has a separate entrance and bathroom. The artist owner, who lives on the property and works in her studio here as well, maintains an extensive landscaped garden as well as a small orchard and vegetable gardens - guests are welcome to roam! The upstairs living room and bedroom look out onto a small, peaceful perennial garden and the woods beyond.
This is a perfect home for relaxing in a quiet, out-of-the way spot, yet close to the village of Southwest Harbor (4 miles) with all of its amenities.
Pets are generally welcome, please ask! Dogs do need to be kept on a leash however as there are many gardens on this property. Longer term rentals are possible, feel free to call to discuss options. A 35% deposit is requested to secure a rental, refundable up to 45 days in advance of the rental; after that I am happy to refund your deposit if I am able to re-rent the property. Slate House is available for rental from June-October.

It is a short 30 minute drive to Cadillac Mountain, 5 minutes to Bass Harbor light house & several wonderful restaurants within a 10 minute drive. It was the perfect place to come back to after a long day out and have a nice, quiet, cozy & beautiful home to relax in at the end of the day. The hostess, Cherie was so kind & helpful. Read more

Jul 2021We loved our stay at the Slate house. Close to Bass Harbor and the historic lighthouse(highly recommend the boat tour out of bass Harbor). Wonderland trail had wonderful tide pools and was less than 10 minutes away. A bit of a drive if you're looking to spend time in Bar Harbor or head to the Schoodic Peninsula, but it was perfect for us. Read more

Jul 2020This was the perfect getaway for myself and my family. The house was eclectic and funky, which I prefer, but had all the basics covered. It was secluded and quiet since it was set back from the road quite a bit, but it was in close proximity to everything one could need. The host, Cherie, was always around to help with whatever question you might have and was responsive to all our needs. Can't recommend this place highly enough. If you are looking to see Acadia but stay on the "quiet side" of MDI, this is the place. Read more

Jun 2021This is a premier property, a craftsman style home, that is owned and run by an absolutely delightful artisan. The property is on the lower edge of Acadia, but is very convenient to all activities. Bar Harbor was only about 25 min. away. The Acadia driving loop was only about 20 min. away. Groceries and good restaurants were just as close. The grocery is only about 10 min. away. This home is in an extremely peaceful location, with amazing flowers all around the property. My wife and I loved this home and would gladly come and visit again. Highly recommended for those seeking peace and quiet and beauty, and yet be close to the national park and excellent food. Aug 2020The slate house is beautiful and unique. Small art work surprises you at every turn, and larger paintings are exhibited as well. But the house is comfortable in every way, with lots of space and a great kitchen for cooking of any kind.

Unlike many vacation places we've stayed, the living room furniture is genuinely comfortable. The grounds are lovely and verdant, and the gardens are colorful. Cherie was a great host, always quick to respond when we needed anything, generous with herbs from her garden, friendly, and also respectful of our privacy. Jul 2019My husband and I booked a week-long stay in July at the Slate House, and were blown away. The home is very big for a two bedroom, and the common space is inviting and cozy. We loved the big kitchen and commercial stove - diner breakfasts every morning! While "off the beaten path" on the quiet side of the island, it was still very accessible and easy to get around, see the sites, hike and enjoy the local lobster and foods. The home is spacious, plenty of room for 4 adults, but with the pot-bellied stove it felt nice and cozy.
