Charming Harvard Victorian w\/pkng
About this house rental
***We have always and continue to follow a strict sanitation procedure with our property during this time period*** Charming Victorian a 10-minute walk or 5 min trolley ride to Harvard Square. Close to MIT and Harvard. Nestled up to Harvard Sq. Our home has a stunning old charm with great period character. This beautiful 125+-year-old home offers approximately 1900 sq feet of indoor living space. Off the kitchen is a relaxing deck with a table that's perfect for breakfast, brunch, dinner or happy hour. The home also boasts a beautifully landscaped garden yard with relaxing front porch and backyard seating. Our home has a big-screen TV, and lots of comfortable sitting venues to relax and enjoy its Victorian charm. While you don't need a car in this area, as the 'T' stop to Harvard sq with access to all of Boston is across the street, tons of bicycles just outside the gate, and the home often offers one off-street parking space, a rarity in Cambridge! Our home can accommodate 8 people/4 couples comfortably. The top floor has stunning vaulted/Abbey ceilings, and pillow sofa is a favorite spot for all, adults, teenagers, and kids to sleep as well. We provide all the linen, towels, soap, coffee and paper products you need. The Coffee Maker will be fully loaded and ready to go when you arrive. You'll have the entire suite to themselves. Area: The Huron Village neighborhood has excellent local shops and restaurants to explore with a classic New England feel right in the middle of everything. The Longfellow House on Brattle is just a few blocks away. Our home is a historic home. When it was built there was no electricity in local homes, the light bulb had just been commercially released the year before; there was no internet, telephone, TV, or cars. All of the materials to the house were brought to the building site by horse and buggy. Almost, everything was handmade, custom for every building. The floors are not going to be perfectly level, there may be some light creaking here or there, and some of the furniture is antique. She's a beautiful and sturdy house. Everything is plenty durable enough for a family, but, it does show some years of love and use. This is typical for the area for homes that focus on restoration vs. renovation. There are multiple generations and time periods together in the same space spanning over 100 years. We do keep it very clean and are frequently recovering pieces. Our goal is to ensure you, and we, have as close to a classic New England feel and experience in our home as possible, while still ensuring modern convenience. We have four bedrooms (three queens and one king) plus a living room that can be converted into a private room with a very high-end queen Tempur platform sofa bed. Most Victorians in the area only have 1 bathroom, unless they've been gut rehabbed. We are very fortunate in that we have 1.5 good sized bathrooms, which is rare, however, the home only has one shower/bath. We've frequently had groups of 10+ people, and folks haven't had a problem as we have endless hot water. We are always available to answer any questions and happy to answer any you may have before or after booking. --- No smoking Not suitable for pets No parties or events Check-in is anytime after 4 PM Check out by 11 AM Self-check-in with smart lock ABSOLUTELY NO PARTIES or similar gatherings. We've never had issues with families or friends traveling together, family dinner/birthday party or things like that, we are explicitly addressing parties. Everything needs to be inside by 10 pm at a respectable noise level. Sorry to be so blunt but we have had some major issues with this lately. It jeopardized guest safety/experience and our ability to host. There are many beautiful clubs and environments nearby for such activities. The area we are in is an upscale housing area not suitable for parties and similar events. As such you may find yourself without a place to stay. If in doubt, please ask before booking. This is the perfect home for someone wanting to experience an authentic Victorian charm. ABSOLUTELY NO PARTIES or similar gatherings. We've never had issues with families or friends traveling together, family dinner/birthday party or things like that, we are specifically addressing parties. Everything needs to be inside by 10pm at a respectable noise level. Sorry to be so blunt but we have had a number of epic issues with this lately. It jeopardized guest safety/experience and our ability to host. There are many wonderful clubs and environments nearby for such activities. The area we are in is an upscale housing area not suitable for parties and similar events. As such you may find yourself without a place to stay. If in doubt please ask before booking. We do collect a $200 deposit which will not be returned if there are noise complaints or issues from the neighborhood or if our cleaner has to completely reconfigure our home, or re-establish all the TV wiring after your stay. We have very few rules except to enjoy yourself and be respectful of our home and neighbors. We've tried to set everything up so you have a 5-star experience all around all. So all you need is your clothes and to focus on having a good time in our home as though it's your own. The few small rules we have are: * No smoking * No pets * Our home is not suitable for loud parties (PLEASE Please be good neighbors! The outside decks and patios are wonderful places to hangout out but, please be conscious of noise, be quiet after 10 pm, and move inside. We have neighbors who sleep with Windows open and Cambridge has very strict noise laws that kick in around 10 pm. Our home was built in 1880.. Please do not flush Tampons, Baby wipes (even the flush kind), or paper towels as they will clog up the plumbing system while you are there. Please understand the home is well over 120 years old from a time when all the materials to build it would have been brought by horse and buggy. The house would have then been hand built by skilled workers from scratch. It's clean, exceptionally comfortable, and in a great location. However, we've very purposefully not blown out the charm of an old house. The doors are all hand made, so not perfectly square, the floors creek a wee bit here and there, and some of the windows are a bit wavy. This is the perfect home for someone wanting to experience Victorian charm and what the homes and mansions in the area are like. Incredible location, such a unique and fun house to stay in. Quiet, picture perfect neighborhood, and Steve couldn't have been more welcoming. The house has everything anyone would need, including the rarest commodity - off-street parking. We parked our second rig at the giant Alewife T station - 9 bucks a day - 10 minute drive. Steve is not exaggerating...Cambridge parking is basically non-existent.
Overall, one of the best stays my family and I have had (including 3 CRITICAL teenage girls..hahaha), and we rent houses several times a year. 10 out of 10.

East Coast family rendezvous - A comfortably casual stay in a Cambridge house with old time character mixed with modern amenities. Loved the second floor lanai outside the kitchen. Spacious, with many beds. Owner provides good coffee gracious a Dios!

The spiral staircase featured on the photographs really is as quaint and delightful as it looks. More significantly, the upstairs living room and the patio were both great hang out spaces to sit and talk. Everything from the check in to check out was clear and well labeled. Thank you for hosting us!

Steve THANK YOU so much for sharing your lovely home. We drove almost 6 hours from Philly for a short getaway before school starts again and your house was perfect! Kids had their own space and we were really able to unwind after the trip and sightseeing each day!! The neighborhood is super safe. Everything you need is within walking distance which is extremely helpful. At night it’s nice and quiet which we also were very grateful for! Steve we really appreciate all your prompt responses and helpful suggestions. We loved every minute of this vacation! Thank you again!

This home is well located and was the perfect space for our team retreat. The host was extremely easy to get in touch with, and very helpful. There wasn't a long list of checkout instructions as some other listings often have. The wifi was strong enough to support a team of 5 people all working simultaneously.
There are definitely some quirks to the home, as is to be expected with an old Victorian. The only thing I'd flag is that one of the bedrooms listed was clearly an addition to the house, and thus doesn't get heated as well, and also has windows facing into one of the sitting areas, which can be awkward if the room is for a professional retreat like ours was. I think this issue would be made less awkward if the blinds were moved to inside the bedroom instead of in the sitting area.
Overall a rare find, and a beautiful home, with support from an exceptionally helpful team!

The hosts were very responsive and provided lots of information about the house and the area to make our stay fun and comfortable. This apartment is in a lovely neighborhood. The gourmet market, coffee shop and restaurants within a few blocks are great. We also enjoyed the park around Fresh Pond. It was also really nice that the property has a parking spot--unusual and very convenient!

Great place, great stay. We came for our reunion, and this was a great location to be able to come back and hang out with college friends. Owners gave great information about local places, and were highly responsive to questions, and accomodating about storing luggage for those leaving later on check-out date! Overall, great experience, we'll definitely come back for our next reunion!

When there are only two toilets with eight people please make sure both toilets are working properly. We personally would not stay here again.

We really enjoyed our week at this property. It was plenty of space for 3 adults and 4 kids. The kids took over the upper floor and that suited all of us just fine. It took some coordination with only 1 1/2 baths but we managed. We loved eating out on the deck and loved the quiet neighborhood. Access to public transportation is good, but the kids were especially pleased when we figured out the 75 bus schedule. It stops right by the house.

The property was located in the heart of Cambridge and an easy walk from several restaurants, coffee shops, and a moderate walk from a playground (which kept our kids entertained for quite a while). People in the neighborhood are super friendly. Easy to find parking if you have more than one vehicle. Easy to use washer and dryer and the deck was great for hanging out on. It was an older house, so expect that there will be some things that need work - nothing that inhibited our stay there. A welcome surprise were the random turkeys walking around.

Overall generally satisfied with the property. It handled our party of 9 nicely. We were caught a little off guard in that the property was only the upper two floors but we could all manage the stairs so it was no problem for our group. Beds were comfortable.

It was a treat to house our party of seven so comfortably and elegantly, too. The quiet of the neighborhood was a happy surprise. We really enjoyed walking to local parks with the toddlers. The local eateries and grocers are friendly, affordable and handy. It was nice to hang out in front of the tv and watch Red Sox games, too. The kitchen was a great asset and the porches were a nice place to spend a morning. The owners created a full service home to relax in and that was what our family needed. All the usual time-eating side trips (laundry, parking, coffee runs) are served by the house. Thamks for the attention to detail. It was a treat to stay there.

Everything about this place is perfect! For a Victorian the flat is large, clean and stylish with a beautiful deck for morning coffee! The whole flat is beautiful and still has it 'old New England' feel every place else I've seen has lost. There's a half dozen great hangouts areas (deck, Family room, kitchen, cool sofa pit upstairs, sun-room (that can also be an extra bedroom, dining-room) Harvard square, MIT/Kendall, and the city is only a short ways away, yet it's QUIET.. Steve is amazing and really goes all the way to help you anyway he can. He knows great places to eat, things to do, and will suggest friendly day trips all over based on your interests and desires. I have loved my time staying here and anytime I come back to I would always stay here again - amazing!

Home away from home: Large Family Edition
This place was awesome! The old style home is filled with modern finishes (very comfy beds), and even though we had a big group staying each one of us felt we had private accommodations, as well as a great place to gather with family. Location is about a 20 min walk to the main Cambridge area too, with public-use bikes right outside and some great restaurants and grocery stores nearby.

Cute Victorian with lots of potential! Not a great nights sleep.
Steve was kind and so quick to respond! Appreciated him as a host!! Beds were uncomfortable, no washer/dryer, and very loud AC units that kept us awake. Great host in great location but not sadly not great nights sleep.

Quaint and fun
My friends and I truly loved the property. It sits near wonderful grocery bodegas and is a fun home just to walk around. The bedrooms are ample and the amenities adequate for nights at home. Highly recommended and Steve was fantastic to deal with. We will definitely stay here when we return to Boston.

Fantastic Home!
We loved our stay at this home. Steven, the owner, was there for every question and step of the way. We met his housekeeper Sarah who couldn't have been nicer! The house was extremely clean! Tons and tons of sleeping space, all clean and inviting. The location is great and convenient to wherever you want to go throughout Boston and areas. We would definitely return to this lovely home.
