About this house rental

Malibu adjacent unique 2 bedroom Craftsman gem set in the natural beauty of sprawling canyons, a short drive to the beach & hiking trails. Loads of vintage charm & tasteful modern upgrades. Of particular enjoyment, a large dining room and spacious chairs inviting warm gatherings, a wood burning hearth disclaiming cold winter nights, CB2 Piazza sofa and two large swivel cuddlers to cocoon amidst a sea of pillows, while reading or enjoying Home Theater projections, & a front porch with a view where nature and comfort congregate harmoniously. Trees and ever flowing marine breeze offer fresh air to breath, which is further purified inside the home by essential oil diffusers, Himalayan lamps and air purifying plants. The house is proudly erected on a canyon terrain, surrounded by a lovely fenced yard, a growing orchard, an herb GARDEN and vegetable planters, crowned by a GAZEBO with a swinging couch and garden chairs. Adjacent to it, sheltered by a towering olive tree is an OUTDOOR FITNESS area with a punching bag, an inverter table, and hammocks to cool down or read. Walking through the BACK YARD is an olfactory journey amidst lavender, scented geraniums, mint and native plants. While the FRONT PORCH is dedicated to The 2 Bedroom Craftsman Gem Between Mountain and Ocean guests, the enjoyment of the back yard may be shared with guests of the “Pristine Bungalow Nestled in the Topanga Woods” if present. As you open the main entrance gate, you will be greeted by the soothing sound of a FOUNTAIN peeking through a rock and succulent garden. Against the canyon backdrop, the FRONT PORCH will further invite you to decompress and leave behind all reminders of stress and hectic days before escaping into the home. During your visit, its spacious solid Teak wood cushioned patio furniture will call you to relax any time of day or night. Guests may enjoy majestic chimes on the property offering an ever-changing rendition of climatic conditions, sometimes soothing, sometimes passionate. Their fury can be tamed during the Santa Ana winds. Transitioning into the home, the front door opens onto an inviting collection of interdependent environments that blend harmoniously into each other. The house plan embodies simplicity in form and honesty in construction, with a bank of windows inviting natural light, and entertaining a happy relationship with the surrounding nature. The LIVING ROOM and DINING AREA feature a high ceiling with exposed beams, and gorgeous wooden frame around all doors and windows. It is a well designed space, with wall-to-wall mirrors that speak of both space and coziness. A recessed lighting system and various accents lights shed a warm ambiance on the moments you will spend there. It has an eclectic feel with subtle flavors of Asia, India, Africa and France, inviting simplicity and serenity. The stunning vintage maple flooring with natural patterns adds a pristine and refined feel the house, while commanding you to remove your shoes. With no competition with electronics, the WOOD BURNING HEARTH stands its ground as the focal point of this room and is only rivaled by the front porch, in a secure a visual connection. With an intent to maintain this area as a sanctuary for conversation, reading, and socialization, media equipment and computer space are gracefully concealed in the armoire, integrating a dedicated office space, as they give way to a large crash bag strewn with a plethora of comfortable pillows to cocoon, or watch movies projected on the wall. And yet, echoing the organic feel and simplicity of this cozy universe, you will find comfort with all the amenities of modern life. High tech kitchen with country accents, central heating and air conditioning system, shower/bath, home theater with DVD player, surround sound, wireless ultra high speed FIOS Internet. I am kids friendly and happy to accommodate infants and toddlers, with a portable crib, or a low bed, high chair, books and other toys. No words can pay homage to the spacious solid wood dining table that clads the DINING AREA. Overlooking the garden, it is flooded with natural light, and claims its identity as the Great Gatherer incorporating seating from four to six people. The KITCHEN features two windows into the world of nature, with a perched in the tree feel; the glass door dressed in a subtle Indian veil opens onto a red brick TERRACE, with two PATIO CHAIRS and a small round table where you can enjoy the afternoon sun while watching the wild life in the yard. Two large planters with seasonal vine type vegetable or native plants create a natural barrier between the house and the bungalow. In keeping with its original nurturing function, the kitchen is well appointed and proposes ample stone countertops, modern cabinetry, and large capacity appliances to help in meal preparation, cooking and refrigeration, keeping its traffic from dirty to clean to storage at a minimum. There, you will find everything you need and more to hone your culinary techniques or bake, if so inspired: baking stand mixer, blender, food processor, juicer, rice maker, yogurt maker, ice cream maker, crepe maker, vegetable steamer, slow cooker, pressure cooker, fondue set, toaster, French press, drip coffee maker, Nespresso, tea pot, electric and old fashion gas kettles. Cookery is included. If you need anything else, just ask, I probably have it. Its location adjacent to the exterior entrance and outdoor terrace, establishes a seasonal and climatic flow to enjoy your meals al fresco, while bridging the gap between urban and country life, vintage and modernity. The Fresh herb garden will easily find its way to spice up your meals, together with a wide array of ethnic spices on the rack above the counter.. With the "GREAT GATHERER," there are four dining areas: the front porch -facing east, is enticing for breakfast, while the red brick terrace may inspire lunchtime; and the gazebo call for a mid afternoon tea or coffee break. On the opposite end, TWO COZY BEDROOMS on the right of the living room claim their relaxing ground. Continuing the dialogue with the outside, both bedrooms are temperate and well ventilated, with natural AC most of the year. Central AC will kick in if needed during the hot summer months. Both bedrooms rely on the integration of direct light that flows in through large windows, and back out through purposefully placed mirrors, while inviting in a panoramic view of the landscape, to create small spaces that live large. Comfortable mattresses with Tempurpedic foam toppers are dressed with high quality organic bedding, all encased in natural bamboo protectors that eliminate allergens, bacteria, and dust mites. Together, they are fully dedicated to your sleep and relaxing needs without any interference. The FIRST COZY BEDROOM has a twin size bed, with a pullout bed on a pop up frame, that can transform the two single beds into a king size, offering the option to request one of the 4 configurations: king size, OR one single day bed, leaving space for a study/reading room, OR two singles in an L-shape at the same level, OR two singles in an L-shape at different levels to accommodate young children. It is crafted with gorgeous cabinetry, on each side of a large mirror. A sunny faux finish add a warm and homey feel to the room, with subtle artwork seemingly emerging from the walls. The SECOND COZY BEDROOM also offers a stunning view of the canyon from its comfortable queen size bed. There is a small recessed closet housing a country style dresser behind soft veils. A simple white color palette brings out accent cushions and the warmth of the wood framing door, windows, and closet. Ensconced across the bedrooms, the BATHROOM summons its cleansing energy. Carved in natural hues, it has a stone feel mitigated by water, air, and three different lighting systems: bright, soft, and Himalayan. The tiling earthy tones echoes the greenery peaking through the window, which you can enjoy lying down in the inlaid bathtub. In a pleasant contrast, bright white walls are adorned with Capiz Paper Shell Flat Bead Curtains that add an element of fluidity. You can expect cleanliness, quietness, and beauty within and without - nature and civilization working together. While the days weave a visual tapestry of trees and vegetation, including California Oaks, Olive trees, fern, massive boulders and wild flowers, the nights will host an entrancing symphony orchestrating frogs and crickets, conducted by owls. A wide variety of wild life reclaims its territory beyond the wooden fence, which is not accessible to guests. And sheltering it all, the pristine sky will often dazzle the stargazer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days at the property. It's a beautiful and cozy cottage surrounded by mountains and nature. Less than 4 miles from PCH and close to many attractions including Santa Monica Pier, Adamson House, Getty Villa, state beaches and hiking trails. Isabelle was a great host. We were greeted with fresh fruits and Apple cider. Kitchen was well stocked. Checkin and checkout process was very smooth. Isabelle also provided beach towels and beach chairs. We will come back.

Excellent experience. It suited our needs perfectly for a comfortable place to stay. We were greeted with hot apple cider and a nice cheese, cracker and fresh fruit. My kids aged 13 through 20 all commented that they would like to live in a house like this. We didn't spend much time in the unit -- mainly just to sleep at night. The beds are very comfortable. We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies. There was some noise from Topanga canyon road, but other than that it was very quiet and peaceful. The gardens are beautifully kept and there are good outdoor seating areas. The only negative would be the windy roads -- if driving windy roads is not your thing, might be best to stay elsewhere.

Things I love: This place has gorgeous views and a fun, upscale, funky neighborhood. Isabelle let me check in a few hours early, and I loved listening to the fountain and crickets. I was greeted with grapes, bagels, jam, nectarines, a pineapple, hummous and apples. The inside is cleaned scrupulously with no obnoxious chemicals! Isabelle responded to my texts immediately. Things I didn’t love: There is living space under the bedrooms, and though the noises are super quiet, I am a light sleeper, and the listing said host lived on a separate lot. I didn’t have control over the central heat; Isabelle was super fast to respond but I got cold one night as the heat didn’t turn on after a power outage (I didn’t want to wake her up so I waited till dawn to text). Moldy sink drain (quickly resolved with baking soda and vinegar care of host.) Overall it’s a gorgeous place and most appropriate for hearty, ecologically responsible travelers with a taste for beauty.

This was absolutely a home away from home. Watch a treat to wake to the sun rising over the mountains. It feels rural and yet only 15 minutes from downtown Santa Monica.
