1950's Cabin On Cane Creek Above The Falls
About this cabin rental
Located in Dahlonega, this attractive cabin for R 1,889 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Romantic and private mountain cabin located just north of historic Dahlonega, on Cane Creek with 25 ft high waterfall, great room w/ massive stone fireplace, screened porch w/ rocking chairs overlooking Cane Creek, flagstone terrace within 10 ft of creek and flagstone walkway around cabin, 1950s kitchen with antique side board sink, refrigerator, gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, 1950s bathroom fixtures with lots of gas hot water, large walk-in tile shower, 90% efficient quiet gas furnace, easy unloading-park 15 ft to front door, located inside a gated facility staffed 24/7, just relax and sit by the fire or take a walk along the scenic mountain trails or take the "Georgia Wine Trail" to the many wineries nearby or enjoy a play or movie at the historic Holly Theater. Dahlonega was the site of the first gold rush in America in 1828 and is the home of North Georgia College and State University. The waterfall is about 200 ft downstream from the cabin. Between the front of the cabin and the falls there is a grassy area that great for bad-mitten or touch football. Then there is a small gravel parking area for the cabins that are across the creek. If you continue walking straight ahead there is a boardwalk to an observation platform at the top of the Cane Creek Falls and wooden stairs up to the roadway above. You can walk along the roadway down to the bottom of the falls. The roadway is the easy walk to the bottom of the falls. There is also a foot bridge going across the creek just above the falls and another footbridge across the creek below the falls. I'm not sure if the upper trail across the creek that leads to the other side of the top of the falls has been improved and repaired to allow access to an old timber stairway leading from the top of the falls to bottom. If the stairway is open then you can circle the falls, down one side and up the other. The best wading is just below the falls where you will find a pool of water and the creek has a rocky bottom for rock skipping and easy wading (river shoes or old tennis shoes are nice). Swimming is not allowed in the pool of water at the base of the falls for safety reasons (powerful hydraulics at the base of the falls). At dusk when the kids were young we liked to make "bark boats" out of 6" to 8" pieces of pine bark with lighted birthday candles mounted on top to see who can keep their bark boat lighted the farthest downstream. When the summer campers are out we just give them their space so that we don't disturb their organized activity. The councilors and kids are very friendly. We haven't been horseback riding in years, but I did find some places nearby that have horses to ride. There are two large cast iron bells at the front entrance used as planters for ivy. These bells used to be in front of my great grandfather's home, "Two Bells", in Dahlonega where he owned a general store in the late 1800's. The home was named after his daughter Isabelle (Belle for short) and his granddaughter also named Isabelle. I have been told that one of the bells rang when the civil war ended and the other rang when North Georgia college was founded in 1873. He had the honor of representing the citizens of Dahlonega in the U.S. House of Representatives and secured the U.S. Mint Building in Dahlonega for use as the North Georgia Agricultural College, now know as North Georgia College and State University. He headed up the governing board of the college for over 30 years until his death in 1908. When my great grandfather died my grandfather's family along with my dad moved to Atlanta, and in 1951 my dad and his 3 sisters and brother decided to build this cabin next to Cane Creek so that they could visit their old hometown and discover their roots. We really want you to stay at our family cabin and experience a trip back in time to a simpler era, yet if you need to connect with the outside world for a moment there's the WiFi or Netflix. Rocking on the screened porch with a cup of coffee and a good book make for a wonderful morning. When the sun clears the ridge maybe a walk or grab a cane pole from the curtain rod and go fishing in the creek. If it's too cold or rainy then stay close to the warmth of the stone fireplace and play some records, or set up an old fashioned board game or a card game of gin-rummy, hearts, or poker if that's your game. Lots to do and see if you get restless after too much relaxing... If gold is on your mind then checkout the Gold Museum in the Old Courthouse on the square, then try your luck at panning at Crisson's Gold mine, or go on the underground tour of the largest gold mine in the area, the Consolidated Mine. There's a lot of gold mining history around since Dahlonega was the very first gold rush in the U.S. Gold mining runs in our family. Maybelle Crisson was my grandmother and her daddy E.E. Crisson and her granddaddy W. R. Crisson were both gold miners. Maybelle's other grandfather, Boley Fields, discovered a placer deposit of gold nuggets in the Chestatee River that he described as being the size of a bed sheet and it twinkled like the stars. It weighed 96,000 pennyweights (about 300 lbs!). My great grandfather Col. W. P. Price was the Secretary the Findley Gold Mine located below the 400 ft ridge on the Yahoola, and one on the U. S. Mint officials told the crowd of miners outside the Old Courthouse headed off to California in 1849 that there's more gold in Findley Ridge yet to be found..."There's millions in it boys!" Moonshining is also part of our history and the beginning of NASCAR had its roots on these highways with the hot rods used to outrun the revenuers, like we've all seen in the movie Thunder Road. If you haven't seen it try You Tube while you're at the cabin. The trail head for the Appalacian Trail is nearby or you can just take a hiking trail right out side the cabin (see the trail map by the footbridge). Do checkout the observation boardwalk just above the falls for a close-up view of the white water. Of course you can always venture out for shopping in town, or try a play at the Holly Theater, or just have lunch at the Corkscrew Bistro next door, or you can head out on the Wine Highway just a few miles north of our cabin and do some wine tasting. Regards, Hal & Audrey

We had a wonderful stay in the warm and cozy cabin. Would love to go back with more of our family someday!!

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was perfectly furnished with vintage albums, a movie collection, and an impressive book collection. We enjoyed our evenings by the roaring fire. The owner was very informative and provided everything to make our stay comfortable. I would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone looking to get away for the weekend.

At first we had difficulty locating the cabin we had booked, but once we found it it was a most enjoyable stay. Nice waterfall within walking distance and cabin located close to town.

We were pleasantly surprised by this cabin. Pictures definitely do not do it justice. Tucked off into the woods with a beautiful waterfall just 100 yards from it, its the perfect peaceful getaway. The cabin comes stocked with everything you could think of, from games to movies, blankets, and all the dog amenities you could imagine! We never lacked. The best little surprise was the dog toys! The cabin is also conveniently located to town and food. We would definitely stay there again.

What a fabulous step back in time with all the modern conveniences you need. We arrived to a beautiful well thought out cabin it was so cozy & comfortable. We had everything we needed & great directions to get firewood for the fireplace. We spent nights by the fireplace drinking coco & playing games, listening to records on the record player. Great collection of records. We watched the deer play in the stream and had a magical stress free stay. The beds were comfortable and the quilts were cozy & warm. We can’t wait to come back& melt our worries away again. We loved our stay and made great memories. This cabin really felt magical for our family we all felt the love & joy it holds.

Wonderful, peaceful, pretty surroundings. Place is very nicely kept. You feel like you're at home. When we first got to the gate, of course the code didn't work, but a young man came out of the office and helped us. But also informed us that kids were coming ( we never realized it was a private kids camp) We didn't see that on any of the write ups. And he told us we needed to stay in our cabin because of that. Well, we didn't and we never saw any kids! A bit weird but we loved it there!

The cabin is so near a waterfall that you can hear it from the screened in porch, and is conveniently close to Dahlonega. Nice and clean - very pleasant.

Ideally located and quiet. Go to sleep listening to the falls. Great town. Will return again someday

I had a wonderful time staying at Hal and Audrey's cabin in Dohlenega. The cabin was clean, cozy, and quietly situated within a Retreat Center (that was closed for the remaining year). Cane Falls is just about 200 yards away, and the trails are beautiful. It's simply a peaceful area, but only two miles from the town center of Dahlonega.
I feel very grateful to have found this VRBO!!

Beautiful serene location. Super cozy cabin with historic charm, gorgeous fireplace, comfortable beds, and the perfect screened-in porch. Less than 10 minutes from restaurants, coffee shops, gold mines, and everything else Dahlonega has to offer. Absolutely loved it!!! Oh, and of course, the falls!!! Gorgeous!

Favorites of this property are the nearby waterfall, screened porch and proximity to downtown and attractions! Would definitely stay here again. I would avoid staying in warm weather as the window units did not cool the entire house. Reminded of old homestead and family fishing camp.🎣🏡

So unique and comfortable. Very relaxing.

We spent three days here, peaceful mornings sipping coffee in the comfort of the living room and exploring nearby in the afternoons. Evenings were perfectly set up for a simple meal prepared in the cabin’s simple yet well appointed kitchen. Spinning vintage vinyl and chats on the porch overlooking the creek. Relaxing, peaceful. A place set outside of the hurry of today’s world.

The 1950s cabin is just as the listing describes. We loved it. We sat in the rocking chairs in the screened in back porch each evening.
Dahlenoga is a very small & cute town. We spent most of our time hiking, but did do a gold mine tour & visited the Gold Museum, & visited some of the shops. It was a quick drive from the cabin to go to town for dinner each evening. There are also several wineries in the area.

We had a lovely time…cabin was great. Would’ve liked to be able to hike a little more around the camp…but summer campers were there and renters not allowed to hike when summer campers are there.

Charming cabin. From the patio we watched deer come to the creek to drink. The screened porch overlooking the creek was perfect for an afternoon nap.

It was the cleanest, well-stocked, beautiful cabin we've ever been in. It was quiet with sounds of the falls in the background. The owners were wonderful and friendly in emails and calls answering our dumb questions. Beds were comfortable. I can't say all the things we enjoyed there. Thank you! We will be back.

We arrived for an annual mother/daugter stay. Gate code provided didn't work and owner did not answer from the callbox. After a few minutes the car behind us gave us a code that worked. We got to the cabin, which looked like described, and followed the instructions to access the lockbox. We tried the provided code for over 40 minutes! We tried calling and texting the owner with no response. I am 70 and we had my elderly dog (permitted) and it was 90 degrees in the shade. I know how to work a lockbox as does my 44 year old daughter that is a teacher with a Masters degree. We gave up after getting no response from the owner. On the way home, my daughter called VRBO for a resolution. They also could not reach the owner and gave us instructions on how to file for a refund. The owner sent an email the next day apologizing and saying that he would start the refund through VRBO. Imagine my surprise when he sent an email 2 days later that his housekeeper was able to open the lockbox and it may have needed lubricant so he would offer a free night instead of a refund. Really poor interaction and insulting to imply that we may not have used the lockbox correctly because his housekeeper opened it (with lubricant) two days later. Would have stayed at the property if said housekeeper would have been available with lubricant when we were sitting in the 90 degree heat. It was strange that none of the codes provided worked. So stay at your own risk and bring your own lockbox lubricant I guess

This rustic cabin was located perfectly for creek and waterfall lovers. The Porch is perfect for rocking and resting. We spent 70% of our time there. Amazing value for location.

This gem came exactly as described. Spacious cabin with all the amenities, even a record player with a nice selection of albums. Eclectic and comfy and dog friendly. The location is private and surrounded by beautiful forest just above Cane Creek Falls which is breathtaking. Overall, quite satisfied.

The cabin was great but falls closed for church camps was not listed. This restricted access to much of the area

I loved our stay at this cabin. We walked right out the door to see a waterfall anytime we wanted. The record player and sleeping on the porch were my favorite details. It’s very secure as you need two gate codes to enter. I will definitely stay here again. Thank you!

This is my second time at this property…first time in the spring:-). Owners had the cabin ready for us and the kitchen has everything we needed. Love looking out any window and seeing the woods! The great room with fireplace is a perfect place to curl up on the couches for a movie or to enjoy the fire or to play one of the many games provided by the owners!
The waterfall can be heard from the cabin and the front porch overlooks the creek.
It’s a very peaceful place to stay :-)
Thank you!

The only problem was not receiving the correct gate code to be able to go in and out. We decided to rext the # on the back of the front door and explained the cituation. She gave us the correct #. Problem solved. The cabin is real nice, well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, towels, necessary needs. It was so quiet and restful and just what we needed. Ty so much!!

We spent an incredible 4 days at the cabin. During our stay we checked out downtown Dahlonega, Helen, and few area water falls.
We also spent plenty of time on the porch watching the river and listening to the falls.. the cabin itself is rustic and charming with all the comforts of home. Can't wait to return for a longer stay.

Perfect for what we needed. Cozy. Found the locks on the outside of the bedroom doors a little disconcerting though. Clean and well kept.

It was love at first sight when I looked at the pics online but I was still amazed when we arrived and saw how spacious (and clean!) the cabin is and how breathtaking the surrounding area. My husband and I are tall so we both appreciated the high ceilings. He loved cooking on the gas stove and grilling outside when our adult daughters came for dinner. Our infant grandson enjoyed playing the bongo drums I found on the back porch and our dog ran all over the property with her tail wagging non-stop. We were very pleased to find everything we needed to make it our instant home-away-from-home. My favorite parts of our stay there were sitting on the porch overlooking the creek, exploring outdoors and singing/dancing/laughing along with tunes on the record player. Was pleasantly surprised to find some old school stand-up comedy in the vinyl album collection, along with Motown hits and some 70's & 80's classics we both knew well. The nearby waterfall did not disappoint - there is nothing like experiencing the beauty of God's creation in person vs. seeing someone else's pretty photos of it. I am so thankful Hal & Audrey share their cabin with others and gave us the opportunity to stay in a place where we could have real, quality family time and truly relax. SO much better than even the fanciest and most expensive hotel!

The cabin was AMAZING the photos do not do it justice! The Location is Breathtaking you truly are right over the Falls. The Hosts had everything you could ever need & more! Very clean I cannot wait to return with my family. This trip was just my husband and I but after seeing our Pics the kids want to come as well. What a Beautiful little town close by also with so many Amazing shops

We arrived exactly at check in time and the place was flawless. It surpassed out expectations. The pictures online didnt do this place justice. It seemed much bigger in person. Everything worked perfectly. The host supplied essentials such as paper towels, toilet paper etc.. Lovely cabin literally on the creek. The waterfall is just outside the door. The front porch gave us some much needed peace and quiet. The only thing we coyld hear was the waterfall, very relaxing. Hal and Audrey responded in a timely manner and answered any questions I had. We will definitely be back. My only complaint....we didnt book it for longer. Thanks to Hal and Audrey for allowing us to experience their gem in the woods.
