Great Pond Shoreline- Charming Log Cabin
About this cabin rental
Welcome to the cabin where the hobbits must live- talk about charm! This cabin is one of few remaining original structures from the once popular cottage community called "Log Haven". Located along the banks of Great Pond, "Cabin 6" is a unique property. The log cabin is quaint, loaded with charm and ambiance. It is a reflection of what the old Maine camps once were, yet has been completely modernized. The spirit of the camp nudges our guests to relax and settle in for a memorable vacation. The inside of the cabin is warm and enchanting. An open floor plan blends the living, dining, and kitchen spaces. The fully equipped kitchen invites one to create sumptuous feasts for family and friends. The cabin is warmed on those chilly mornings or nights by either the efficient wood stove or a Rinnai heater. The cabin has a master bedroom with a double bed and a second bedroom with built in bunk beds. An old fashioned open air, screened sleeping porch with two twin beds provides the sleeper with nightly serenades from the loons or the sound of the wind and the waves. The screened porch has a small seating area- another cozy place to watch the waterfront. The cabin's dock is steps away. You can hang out on the dock for swimming, boating, or counting the loons during the day or the stars by night. Because of the location on Great Pond's prime eastern shore, most evenings are spent dockside watching the golden sunset; henceforth, the nickname for Great Pond as being “Golden Pond.” Great Pond is known for the quality of its water. The lake is pristine. The topography of the shoreline at our camp allows children to easily swim along the rocky shallows of the lake. There is a gradual slope to the lake bottom so the water is shallow enough for children to easily swim, yet at the end of the dock the water is deep enough to allow for easy access for a power boat to get in and out from the dock. Kayaks, canoes, row boats, sailboats, power boats and pontoon boats are all welcome. Many a smallmouth bass has been caught right from the dock or from a boat trolling the lake. Fishing is fun on Great Pond. We are located 15 minutes from Waterville or 20 minutes from Augusta. One can find fine restaurants, shopping, and other amenities in both locations. Talk to us about discounts for renting successive weeks.

Our family of 5 had a wonderful week! The cabin was very clean and we were happy that they were extra fans for some warm days/nights. The dock and lake were perfect for our kids, there was a shallow area for the 4 yr old to swim in. The kitchen was well equipped, it even had sharp knives! Cricket was super nice and so helpful. Would highly recommend!

Lovely and tranquil
Sweet waterfront cabin on Great Pond, one of New England's most desirable lakes. Kitchen is particularly worth mentioning as it has nice appliances and all the necessary pots, dishes and utensils. Outside is your own dock, boat/canoe moorings, picnic tables, comfortable chairs and a very nice gas grill. You can see the lake from the porch. Owner is very helpful and responsive.

We had a wonderful and memorable stay at this cabin. We found it to be extremely well equipped, down to the lobster pot, tools and plates that provided directions on how to eat a lobster. Nice touch, but we were already pros. I am always cold, but found the cabin comfortable with the wood burning stove (wood provided) and the Rennai heater. Both sources of heat were welcomed during our June visit and made our stay especially cozy. We were surrounded by wildlife. The location of the cabin allowed us to see lots of native birds right outside our window, some of which we had to google to identify. I especially enjoyed the evenings, it was so quiet. Falling asleep some evenings you could hear the sound of the loons that make the pond their home, calling to each other. There were also many native plants such "Jack in the Pulpit" and many cultivated flowers as Cricket (the owner) has a green thumb and is an excellent gardener. Our stay was full of reminders of my days spent at the lake and my husband's time at his family camp. We had an incredible time, thanks for the memories.

Absolutely a fabulous time! Our nephew, who is in a wheelchair stayed with us. It is difficult to fine a non commercial location that is wheelchair accessible. Not that this cabin (camp) is ADA equipped, there is only a one step up to the front door that allowed easy access to get him in and out of the house. The single shower pan was again, easy to place his shower seat inside of for him to get himself in and out of the shower. We did have to go buy large water bottles to make our coffee and have drinking water, but that was our ONLY set back that was solved with a quick trip to a neighborhood gas station. Access to the clear, refreshing lake at your backdoor was the absolute best! We loved our time here!!

This is a fantastic camp. Prettier than it looks. There are so many wonderful, thoughtful details inside. The sleeping porch is lovely. We had a minor plumbing glitch and Cricket (charming owner) was completely responsive. The camp is small however. The vibe is serene, perhaps better suited to couples than families with active kids. (That could be changed however if they add some boats and floats down at the water.) Entry into the water is fairly easy. Lake bottom is rocky. Water is crystal!

What a wonderful place to vacation - cabin has been wonderfully and creatively renovated; sleeping on the porch was magical; kayaking and swimming in the pond was incredible; coffee in the morning and drinks in the evening sitting on the dock was amazing especially with loons and osprey all around. Our host Cricket, was as nice and helpful as can be. Really loved the place and the area, definitely will return. Because the porch is so perfect for sleeping we would recommend upgrading the porch to a king bed with a high quality mattress and put the twins in the front bedroom or move them out altogether.
