We rented the bottom unit of this house. It was very clean and nicely decorated (beach theme). You couldn't ask for a better location. Walk right outside the back door onto the beach. Yes the water was a little murky but at low tide you can walk real far out and see crabs, whelk and other ocean life. Most days when there was a breeze the black flies didn't bother us. I would suggest bringing big spray for the days you do need it. I would definitely recommend this place - very quiet and secluded. And the best part- you can bring your dog. Our dog was extremely happy to play in the ocean and take walks on the beach. All the locals were super nice too.

When we first got there, there were a lot of biting flies. The kitchen was full of fruit flies, which we never could get rid of. But overall we enjoyed our stay, would probably want to stay somewhere a little closer to the main attractions as nobody delivers to Slaughter Beach.

This is an absolutely gorgeous location. Place was amazing and fully stocked. We were able to cook and there are three TVs, which was nice for our kids. Just want others to be aware that it’s on a marsh so there are tons of nasty biting flies that do stay away with a heavy duty bug spray that you must cover yourself in repeatedly (reapplying hourly). There are lots of mosquitoes too but the flies were worse. Also lots and lots of jellyfish at least when we were there. Our four and six year olds were both stung twice over the span of three days—the six year old had it so bad he vomited twice. It really is gorgeous though and so nice to just look out over the water and totally decompress (as long as you’re covered in bug spray 😅). Again the place was very comfy. Bedroom two has a hospital type bed that goes up and down and has side rails. In this room, the entire bathroom is right in the bedroom also (no privacy for going to the toilet or showering). This didn’t cause any issues but we put the kids in that room cuz it was a little strange. Ha I think for the cost and number of beds and bathrooms, it’s still a good deal. Just want others to know what you’re walking into. Thank you!

Accommodations were as advertised, plenty of places to spread out. Loved the view of the bay from the one bedroom, and the deck overlooking the bay was awesome! Being able to walk out on the bed anytime of the day was spectacular. Charlie love chasing the ghost crabs and we saved many a horseshoe crabs.

Loved the quiet beauty of Slaughter Beach. The home was perfect for us with just steps to the beach and also the National Wildlife Refuge was right across the street. It was nice to be in a pet friendly neighborhood (both the beach and the homes nearby) without the crowds of the nearby high school "Beach Week" towns. The property manager and cleaning staff were extremely responsive to our questions.
We especially loved sunrises and sunsets with all the crabs on the beach, and walking to the Marvel Wildlife viewing station to check out the Osprey nests / families.
Would definitely stay here again

This house is on a nice, secluded beach with only a few people around. Horseshoe crabs would come up to the beach, which was a real treat. We have rented this home twice now and will definitely come back.

We spent a fall weekend get away at this lovely beachfront cottage with beautiful views of the water from inside the house as well as on the wooden deck..quiet, serene, and it came chock full of all the comforts of home..we loved our stay and look forward to hopefully returning sometime in the future.

Quiet neighborhood, close enough to Lewes and Rehoboth. 50’ to the beach was just what was needed to relax.

We really appreciate the privacy of this pet friendly property and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We hope to stay there in the future.

Spacious property full of everything you may need to enjoy time near the water. Very accessible for anyone with mobility issues. Multiple spaces to spread out and relax. Amazing sunrises. Lovely sunsets from the desk overlooking the beach. Bay coastline lovely for viewing; possibly for wading. However, didn't see anyone in the water as there is a significant amount of vegetation and sealife. And it is very shallow. We would love to return to this property in the future.

The first floor of the house was sufficient for our needs. Kitchen was well stocked with right amount of pots, pans, etc. and the views out the windows toward the beach were wonderful. Our only 2 disappointments: the property around the house was a bit neglectful, with bits of refuse and cigarette butts. Also, it was VERY frustrating trying to use the TV - it should have had a manual or handwritten explanation for it - we wasted a lot of time trying to figure it out, and we still were never able to use the TV 😕.

We loved this house and it’s location. It was perfect. I actually booked it for later in the summer when I was there. We will always go back.

We look forward to come back to this area and house almost every year. The subtle improvements to the property made it even better this year and the new landing/steps to the beach were great. The accessibility in the main bedroom is perfect for those with mobility issues. We look forward to coming back again!

First and foremost we had a great time and every time I contacted the property management group they were extremely helpful. But when we rented the property the pictures in the profile had pictures of a fire pit and pictures on the beach. Found out the day before no fires allowed (one of the main reasons we wanted to go there). Also prior to going we received the contract which stated we would have to bring our own supplies (linen foods paper products etc). In the same call about the fire pit found out there were linens so we brought everything else only to find the property fully stock, great! But we brought so much extra supplies that I wish we would have known. Also it stated there was a grill to cook which could not be found. The property is three separate apartments (which i don't remember reading but could have over looked it), so bring only one car as there is only 4 spots available. Most neighbors were super friendly except for one who was mildly annoying but nothing to ruin the weekend. And finally the water when turned hot smelt like sulphur/hard boiled eggs, not sure why. In the end we had a fun time and enjoyed the surrounding area, just finding out the day before the fires on the beach and fire pit was gone ( mind you all other houses had fires on the beach and did not see any public signage saying you cannot). Otherwise everything else was good.

Our impression of this property was nearly perfect. But, this isn't heaven and nothing here is perfect! We loved the location and appreciated the agent changing our unit from first floor to the second floor. We watched amazing sunrises over the ocean from the back deck and gorgeous sunsets from the front deck! The unit had everything we wanted for our 1 week stay. The location was perfect for a peaceful retreat away from the hussle and bussle of life. We'd definitely return!

No issues at all and enjoyed our stay!

The master bedroom was set up for handicap people. The bed needs to be replaced. It was a hospital bed with side rails. The toilet had no privacy and was in the room with the bed. There were overhead hanging bars used for handicapped. We kept running into it when trying to use the sink or toilet. I would remove all handicap devices and build a privacy wall for toilet.

This unit was perfect for our needs. Needed a unit that was handicapped accessible plus pet friendly. It had adequate space. Plus provided most things you would need for cooking. It is not the Ritz but definitely would recommend staying here. The downfall for us was no place to unpack clothes. It was tough living out of suitcases for a month. However we made it work it was a minor problem. Loved the location. Enjoyed the locals that we met. Plan on returning next year.

The house was great! The area was great! Very natural and beautiful…BUT there were hundreds of dead horse shoe crabs as far as you could see on the beach . The flies were horrible. Dozens of swarming horseflies attacking and biting myself and my dog from the minute we walk outside to the second we ran back in. I had to (physically) run every time I took the dog out. It was awful. No bug spray worked. Regular flies , knats, and mosquitos were also horrible. We were not able to go outside or enjoy the beach, except for 1 hour right before a storm came ,high 30 mph winds and that kept the flies off of us. I don’t know if it’s always like that but if it is I would only visit in wintertime. Maybe no flies in the cold? I loved the house and the area but sadly only from the window.

Unit was definitely larger than depicted in line. I completely feel in love with the view from the living room. Place is super dog friendly and the dogs lived their morning walks and afternoon naps on the beach. Heads up if you are someone who enjoys cooking their own meals would definitely bring your own supplies. However, I greatly enjoyed my week.

Upon our arrival, the house was perfectly clean. We had no problem with the internet or cable/satellite TV. They worked as expected.
The house is super close (just a few steps) to the water with many windows facing the beach. The pet-friendliness was a HUGE bonus.
Though we didn't go to the nature preserve, we still saw a large variety of birds, several foxes, a small shark washed up on the beach, and, of course, horseshoe crabs.
Other reviews I read in advance mentioned a problem with flies. While we were there, this was NOT a significant issue. Yes, there were a few outside, but nothing significant. We did pack bug spray and citronella candles just in case, but only used the candles.

We enjoyed our stay at Slaughter Beach. We had everything we needed in the house. The yard was nice and so was the beach. We would definitely consider returning in the future.

This was a very nice week on a quiet beachfront in Slaughter Beach. Steps from the beach and an easy drive to spots to look for birds! A question we often have when visiting places where we might be stuck doing a little work is “how is the Internet connection?” And it really was solid for virtual work when needed.

We drove from PIttsburgh and found the property after dark without a glitch. Glorious view and walk from sweet yard right onto the beach. I think i missed directions about where to park. We were left without parking (we had one car) at the property sometimes. parking beside the road is a violation worthy of neighbors calling the police. (Threatened but also gave us directions to the little lot at public access entrance to beach. Not far from house. Unhappy Neighbors also informed us of a leash law and 10 foot sharks in the bay. (Said, I believe, to keep dogs on leashes.) Our goldens were leashed after the helpful warning. Although we saw no one else w dogs on leash. Happily, our water loving breed had no altercation with the shark, those that live in the water, anyway.

Able to email questions to host within day’s reply. Other visitors upstairs friendly with minimal noise.

Nice unit outfitted with everything just like home. Never did find the DVD player. Lots of channels on the 3 TVs including movie channels and many Spanish channels. When we got there, it had not been cleaned so we called the management and the number on the fridge. No response, so we emailed and texted and they came right away and cleaned it. As others said, if you are a light sleeper, you may want to rent the upstairs unit since the ceiling is thin. The views were great and the beach is quiet. Beds were very comfortable. Parking is right off the street.

So clean and spacious! Has everything you need for an awesome beach stay. We stayed upstairs last year and it was nice. Loved the downstairs this year. Great vibe! TVs all around. Ice on the fridge door and right on the beach!! Best kept secret! Unless you want a lot of people around. It’s so Empty on the beach! Love it.

Our stay at Slaughter Beach could not have been better. I used to come here as a child and thought this would be a perfect place to visit during the Covid quarantine time period. This is such a beautiful, quiet spot. Our stay was perfect. The house was comfortable and had a beautiful view of the bay. We saw gorgeous sunrises and enjoyed amazing walks on the beach. We could not have asked for more. We will be back for sure. This beautiful home was a treasure! Thanks to ALL who made this trip so special.
