If you put on suntan oils, wait at least 30 minutes prior to entering the pool or hot tub to avoid oils in water. Pool use is 'At Your Own Risk'. It is a parent or guardian's responsibility to watch children at all times during pool use. Children must not to be left unattended during pool use. NO diving into the pool, serious injury, paralysis or even death could occur. Damage to the pool itself due to tenant misuse will result in additional charges. HOT TUB: Owner will change water on turnover day please note that it may take up to 24 hours for water to re-heat. Hot Tub will also be maintained mid week by Owner. Please do not set Hot Tub thermostat higher than 104 degrees. Due to high temperatures, Hot Tubs are not suitable for small children or pregnant women. Children under legal age should not be left unattended. It is not wise to sit in the Hot Tub longer than 15 minutes at a time. Overall, our stay was pleasant!

The Oceanfront Victorian Mansion was in disrepair on the outside, including an active wasp nest which my son in-law removed after going to the store to get wasp killer. The owner was there when we arrived and was repairing the deck by the pool, apparently it had rotted boards. The pool and hot tub were dirty both had sand and leaves in them. Also the hot tub didn’t get hot and had no cover! Very dangerous for my two grandchildren ages three and 20 months. The owner came to fix it by the third day. No gate at the top of a full staircase leading to the pool and the two baby gates were old and broken. There was no high chair which was in the description and the crib they advertised was old and needs to be assembled. The floors were dusty and behind the couch was popcorn, broken crackers, lip gloss and two unidentifiable red pills which my 20 month old grandson found!! The house was very warm when we arrived and when we turned the water on it was brown. I assume it wasn’t used in a while. The exterior looks very run down and needs to be painted and the decking gave some guests splinters. The grill was so dirty my son in-law spent over 30 minutes to clean the grates before he could cook. We tried to use it the night before and found the igniter was broken 😞 we used a match to light it and the oven to finish cooking our meat. The list of things is very long that made this house a disappointment but we did not let it ruin our vacation, we made great memories!!

Overall the place was clean and plenty of room. The windows on main floor need some updating because a few are difficult to see the fantastic view. The view is everything and the ease at watching grandkids go up and down the beach was so relaxing. Kitchen and dining was a great area because our group was huge. Great time.

Overall our family enjoyed our time on Indian Beach and at the house. The property was large and easily accommodated our family; plenty of bedrooms, bathrooms, laundry facilities, etc. The beach was fantastic, not crowded at all, even over a holiday week. The owners did reach out to let us know upon our arrival of issues with the second dishwasher which didn't impact our stay. Overall, the house looked like it needed some exterior maintenance (not surprising being oceanfront). The interior was mostly clean except for the floors which looked like they hadn't been swept when we arrived. The house overall met our needs and the location was fantastic.

Beautiful home and location. House is just in pretty significant disrepair. Pretty much all the things on the reviews from a year ago still a problem. Dishwasher not working from day one. Hot Tub quit Wednesday. Huge cockroaches everywhere. Sheetrock walls cut open and left exposed on at least 10 different areas of the house. Ac doesn’t reach the upstairs master. Black mold visible in at least three different locations. Trash can was by the pool when we arrived and so full of garbage and stinky it took three grown men to even lift it. Front windows leak when it rains. Doors outside rusty and the exterior trim looks like it’s needed paint for 5 years..
Mainly just disappointed because the home is gorgeous and the beach location is prime! If properly managed and maintained it would be a five star stay.

Not sure why VRBO would allow this owner to continue to be renters after the ABC exposé. Will not ever use VRBO again. Have not had anything like this from Airbnb.

For $1800/week- Everything should work on arrival.
Dishonesty does not fly with me.
-Grill should work on arrival - Owner told us grill was 2 months old. I've been to NC 20 times and have not seen grills in that state - an all out lie. They did buy a new one that thermometer didn't work.
-Hot tub should work on arrival - by 3rd day of VACATION he fixed, at $2500/day - you do the math.
-Refrigerator would stop working as electric cord that was jerry rigged over a door entrance would get unplugged. This was written in reviews from a year ago they haven't fixed.
-One dishwasher does not work and in a review from a year ago, owner stated they bought new one - again, dishonesty.
-Broken grills, umbrellas, chairs, toys, scattered everywhere.
I understand that it is difficult to get help but this home was not a $18,000/week stay.

USE Airbnb people. Never do VRBO again.

Perfect house for large family. Lots of room to spread out, family friendly, well stocked kitchen, plenty of bedrooms/beds, huge pool, covered decks, outdoor seating, almost like a private beach--easy access. We would rent again.

Located almost midway on the island with grocery stores, restaurants & shopping at both ends of the island, which meant not a lot of tourist traffic if you are staying during “the season”. This home delivered exactly what we were looking for in a home & location. Simply put, we were blown away with how well the house suited our needs.

We spent hours cooking the food in the house. The owner asked if we needed a new grill 2 days later. I never responded to a ridiculous question. Owner brought another cheap grill that will again be dead soon. Note to owner buy a grill that suits a $1.5M beachhouse with a 10 year warranty rather than a trailer park unit with a 90 day warranty. It will not last 30 days in salt air.
3) Dishwasher has error code does not work. This has not worked in years even though they will claim after I post this that it is fixed, just like the others.
4) Washer does not work. This has not worked in years even though they will claim after I post this that it is fixed, just like the others.
5) Toaster blows circuit breaker when using at same time as microwave.
6) Extension cord drapped over entryway to run refrigerator and coffee maker
7) Extension cord (Fire Hazard) pinched in door that powers TV in lower bedroom
8) Multiple exposed wires sticking out of walls and ceilings
9) There are not smoke detectors in every room as stated in the Safey information on VRBO. There are many missing and only 3 of which only 1 works downstairs.
The safety items are quite concerning and wiring does not appear up to code along with missing smoke detectors. I was one call away from calling VRBO about the safety concerns. Hopefully no one gets injured and this serves as a record if they do in the future.
Stay away do not rent here!!! Dishonest owner who could care less about the condition of items that are claimed to be working. If you using Grill and Jacuzzi search criteria, scratch this off your list, they will not be working when you get here. Do not believe them when they post after I do that everything has been fixed. Go back a few years, same items are still not working.

What a view
This property has a lot of space and although it is pet friendly it doesn’t feel that way. We had two large dogs and it never felt dirty or cramped. The beach location is amazing and the view from every window is incredible.
The owners were very accommodating letting us check in early.

The inside was beautiful but the outside needs updating. We had hot water the first few days then it was cold until our last day. A lot of outlets wouldn’t work. One dryer wouldn’t turn on. Awesome House
this house was perfect for our family. set up could not have been better. only problems we had were electrical. nothing major, just a little inconvenient. IE one dishwasher did not work, one dryer did not work, hot tub did not work, and the breaker for the kitchen outlets tripped daily. owner was very responsive every time we called

The location is perfect. Beach is basically private in front of the home. House size and layout is excellent for a large group. The property was, however, in general disrepair. Half of the outlets in the kitchen did not work. One of the dishwashers did not work. One of the clothes dryers did not work. The main stove and oven did not have power. The main refrigerator did not have power. The hot tub did not work. The deck by the beach and the deck by the pool were damaged to the the point that I would question their structural integrity.
The owner was very responsive to the issues we had and even went so far as to buy dinner for our entire group of 11. That said, many of the things we had problems with did not get fixed and the group that was coming behind us surely faced all of the same challenges we did. This is unfortunate. The property has a great deal of potential.
All in all we had a great time and the property has so many duplicated amenities that you can get by if half of them don't work. That said, for the money, you would expect to get what's advertised!

The large pool was a hit for all as well as the proximity to the beach. A very family oriented area. We did complete some additional cleaning to the bath & shower areas in the house as well as the kitchen area's to meet our expectations during our stay.

Plenty of areas where multiple families can get together or enjoy time a part. Short walk to the beach from all decks and spray down areas available in numerous areas on the decks. The kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub.
The location is great because you are not near hotels and all the tourist shops, and it’s only a short drive to the grocery story.
We also highly recommend Willie’s Seafood Market which is a short drive from the house.
We had a wonderful time, enjoyed the home and would return.

Our family just experienced a great week at the beach. Our rental was all that it advertised to be. Our hosts provided all that was necessary to make our stay enjoyable. The interior was true to its pictures, comfortable beds, spacious rooms multiple bathrooms, all kitchen equipment and appliances. The ocean view from the rear on any deckwas spectacular. We enjoyed the hot tub, pool and most of all the ocean and time on the beach. From morning coffee on the top deck to cocktails on the pool deck with beach time in between and game night in the spacious living room each day was a great memory.We had to delay our original Easter week vacation due to Covid 19 restrictions till this year, but it was worth waiting for.We hope to return in the near future and would not hesitate to recommend this property to any beach lovers.Ron Rudnicki

Family gathering
First and foremost, we thoroughly enjoyed our time together as a family in Emerald Isle. Of course the location is ideal, with
beautiful views from every window. The size and layout of the house suited our needs perfectly. The beds were the best - very very comfy. The house decor / furniture very nice . Kitchen well stocked with pots pans. No faucet handle!That being said, ( due to a consensus of negative posts from former renters about maintenance and things broken, outside needing cleaning up etc.) I spoke with Julie weeks prior to our arrival to confirm everything at this home was indeed fixed, maintained, in working order, cleaned, and as advertised, in pristine condition as her advertised photos show. ( I explained we had a terrible experience in NC beach rental that ruined our vacation , wasted our time $. Advertised photos did not reflect the condition. I wanted to be absolutely sure we would have no problems , that she rectified all issues stated in near past posts) Her response was “have an open mind”. At arrival first glance looks amazing, however, the floors had sand dirt in areas, the ground floor bedroom king bed and second floor queen bedroom had sand in the sheets ( that were supposed to be clean)! One washing machine did not spin the clothes of excess water. The half bath on main floor was really cold only to find out the bottom window pane rail (wood) is rotted and the “fix” was to fill it with toilet paper that had been drenched because of rain. The door in this same half bath was filthy (brown black) around door handle... throughout the house dings, holes, dirt on walls. The second floor full bath in hallway toilet overflowed. The hot tub has no cover, the water was sandy, slimy and smelly; it also has a leak because it didn’t hold the water... all leaked out. When my husband told Julie the water was slimy etc she replied “routine maintenance would be performed on Wednesday”.. no help at all. By Wednesday it was empty and Kenny asked my husband if he knew where it was leaking from.. ?? It was raining . He did refill the hot tub on Wednesday. The windows in the master bedroom on second floor are all broken, one repaired by using plexiglass , screws, caulking that was all spilt and broken. Most windows need to be replaced Third floor shower floor has issues. .plus she asks you to start the wash w/ OUR soap. Pd cleaning fee! Home is NOT as advertised. Price not reflected in home. Will not rent in NC again.

Great location!
This was a perfect property for our family of 7 (five kids ages 12 and under) and 2 dogs. The views from this property were amazing...beautiful sunrises and sunsets . The pool was great. This property has so much potential, it just needs some TLC and repairs. There were quite a number of electrical outlets that didn't work, a/c issues, outdoor furniture that was broken, carpentry work not completed. We would definitely rent this house again, but would like to see repairs made to it first.

Great Ocean Views, Pool and Hot Tub
Great house to come and relax, enjoy the oceanfront views, entertain, connect with loved ones and have space to refresh and restore. Loved the ice maker, multiple fridges, two sets of washers and dryers, ninja blender. Also, loved the memory foam beds. Super comfortable! Overall great house to create memories for a lifetime. Thank you Ken and Julie for making this last minute trip happen for our family.

Avoid this House and Owner at All Cost
PSA: Do not stay at this property or give these owners your money under any scenario. Our stay was booked during a time that Carteret County made it illegal for any rentals less than 30 days long due to the COVID quarantine. After requesting a full refund the owner said they have a no refund policy, so I told them that I have no choice but to come use the property if they were keeping my money. When we arrived at the property at the stated check-in time (3pm per email) there was a construction crew in the house, both owners, and the owner’s large husky dog. Despite us telling them we were coming, they had decided to do work on the property that week. We told the owners that we can handle the cleanup and we just wanted them to leave. For some reason they insisted on making beds for us, and the owners and the construction crew didn’t leave until 7:30pm, a whopping 4 and a half hours after stated check-in.
I wish I could say that the house was in great shape after the owners left, but it was awful even after the owners cleaned it for 3 hours straight. The entire outside of the property was covered in nails and construction debris that hadn’t been cleaned for at least a month. The hot tub was open, 85 degrees, green, and full of roofing debris. I was able to cleanup the property after 4 hours of cleaning myself which made it usable for us the remainder of the week. Additionally, a third of the house was locked off from us the entire week which we were never allowed to use.
Wait, there is more! Here is the rest of the issues with the property: (1) Roof over beach walk way needs to be condemned, it is leaning at about 10 degrees. (2) Range had no power going to it, we had to light burners with a lighter. (3) HVAC system does not cool OR heat and did not work during what was very mild April weather conditions. (4) Property has 30 year-old windows that are rotting. Multiple windows are screwed in to keep them in place and one even had Plexiglass screwed into it as the glass replacement. (5) Hot tub filter was 2 years old and doesn’t work. (6) Hot tub cover is probably 5 years old and retains 50+ pounds of water when it rains. I didn’t know that so when I put it up on the lifter it ended up breaking the lifting arm and collapsing on top of me. (7) Property has exposed electrical outlets because of shoddy carpentry. (8) Entire deck should have been replaced years ago and has significant rot damage and is very dangerous.
