Two Shipwrecks are Just Offshore. Great snorkeling. Walk to the beach in 3 minutes. 3 MINUTE WALK TO THE BEACH!! Our house is named “PADI-SHACK” after the Professional Association of Diving Instructors...the owners are avid scuba divers and we love to share our experiences with our guests. Our guests often like to go out to the shipwreck with us and we enjoy being "tour guides". And, we have MANY friends that we have acquired over the years who are here for large parts of the summer. You'll be welcomed into the "family"....and YOU WILL LOVE IT. Padi-Shack has three bedrooms, two baths, and a screened in porch just off the kitchen. There are ocean views from the upper decks, and there is a lovely ground level deck with patio furniture and an OBX style swing. The owners don’t live far away and we will do anything we can to make this your best vacation EVER! PLEASE NOTE...we do not supply linens or paper products. A full week (Saturday to Saturday) is required during prime time rental periods. Off season check-ins and visits are very flexible, requiring a minimum of only 2 nights! WE REQUIRE KNOWING THE AGES OF ALL PARTIES THAT WILL BE VISITING! WE HAVE NEIGHBORS THAT LOOK AFTER OUR HOME. IF YOU ARE OF HIGH SCHOOL AND/OR COLLEGE AGE, YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST TWO PEOPLE ACCOMPANYING YOU THAT ARE ABOVE THE AGE OF 30 YEARS OLD! NO EXCEPTIONS.

This house met all of our needs (4 adults). The directions to the house were clear, the kitchen was roomy as we did a lot of cooking, and the living space was comfortable. The owner was very nice and he was in contact with me making sure I had all the instructions days before we arrived. There were no issues with anything. I would love to go back during the summer to enjoy the beach. It's a beautiful area to visit!

Overall the property was great. Needing a few cosmetic fixes but a wonderful place to stay for the price. Our hosts Randy and Darlean are wonderful people. Very understanding and accommodating. Would absolutely stay with them again.

Our family weekend getaway meeting up in KDH was great. Vrbo rental place is in a good location - a few blocks to the water and a few blocks to the shopping area. Neighborhood is quiet and friendly.

We loved the Padi Shack and will definitely be back! Perfect walking distance to beach. Fully stocked kitchen- great if you plan on cooking most meals. Communication with owners was easy and they always had a quick response. Great location at a great price.

Randy was communicative from the very beginning; providing info about the house and surrounding areas. The house is a short walk to the beach and central to a lot of the shops and restaurants we visited. Us 4 grandmas were very pleased with our stay and would definitely consider renting again.

There were 4 adults and 2 children in our group. We had plenty of room. The kitchen was very well equipped. Easy walking distance to beach. Very close to movie theatre and grocery stores. This place has some minor flaws but is well worth the rental fees.

My family and I had a great stay at the Padi-Shack. We spent alot of time on the porches and loved the quick trip to the beach access. We also enjoyed the fantastic DVD collection!!

Needs updates, carpet was stained and old. No screens on screened in porch, porch furniture is old/rusted and porch rocker needs to be scraped and repainted. These are all cosmetic things that would improve value to the property. SAFETY: old rusted door hinges with sharp protrusions, open container of rat poison under sink, back steps are safer than side steps, front railing on deck needs better securing, no clean path to outdoor shower..you must walk over sand,dirt,shells,glass,and some construction debris to use it, and there is no door on it. Dishwasher only worked once. The breaker switch kept tripping. Definitely not recommended property for anyone with little kids.
We had the good fortune to meet with the owners and they are very nice. Improvement projects are an ongoing process for them

I really enjoyed the location of this property. It was convenient to the beach as well as shopping and dining. The property and furnishings could use some updating, but everything was there for a good stay.

The house was just as listed on the inside. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. It was a cozy place on a rainy day! The kitchen is very well stocked. There were no screens on the screened in porch, but it is the off season and I know owners do work during this time and probably hadn’t gotten to it yet. Darlene was very nice to talk to and even offered to bring flashlights since the outside lights hadn’t been replaced yet. Overall a nice place to spend a winter weekend at the beach!

accomodations were as stated (supplies, etc) ... ironically our son's ex-inlaws owned the same model house in KDH (several upgrades/redesigns having been done to their house) so we were "at home" immediately. Understanding that recent siding replacement meant no outside lighting(we had been advised by owner and knew we needed our phone flashlights) we had big concerns about the main outside stairs and advised all to use the back stairs(new treads, sturdier) especially when the weather turned wet...stop front outside step higher than rest and several treads on front stairs uneven/not level and would not have known of light situation if we hadnt contacted owner for other questions before arrival....we also suggest HDMI cable may have short (screen flickering)....we enjoyed our quick visit, with family in Colington we are "regulars" and not "resorters" so choosing Padi-shack was perfect for us...Thanks

We enjoyed staying at the house the weekend after Thanksgiving. Easy and short walk to the beach, close to everything. They were residing the home that week but were not there while we were there. Had to manifest are the construction though so that was not the best situation, once finished I’m sure it will look great. Interior had everything we needed. Could use an update on carpets though. We would look to go again. It’s your normal older beach cottage which is fine at the beach.

Great experience booking with & communicating with Randy. Love the location, easy walk to the beach. Overall the house lived up to my expectations from the listing. Just about everything you need and comfortable, cool layout with lots of potential. As was mentioned in other reviews, the carpet has seen better days. There’s a few cobwebs here and there and we noticed there’s no oven mitts or a corkscrew in the house, but all very minor in the grand scheme. Left happy and would stay again.

Things that were great about this rental: location near the beach and grocery/mini golf, kitchen is well stocked with pots/pans/tableware, communication with hosts is quick. Downsides: the house could use a professional deep-clean and a new (more effective) vacuum. I have only needed to take allergy medication once in my life before but I couldn't even stay in the house for a few minutes without feeling sick, it was so dusty. The upside is that the owners did come, bring a different vacuum and dust, which helped. However the amount of dust on bookshelves, ceiling fans, tchotchkes, underneath and behind things that were set out (even after they came) makes me think that this is a pervasive issue.
As they note, you need to bring linens--the house doesn't even have kitchen towels or bath mats for use. There is no hand soap in the bathrooms.
Another heads up: once you book this property you will automatically be put on a listserv for the owner's realtor business, and you'll begin to get emails about how you can make passive income off of vacationers to the Outer Banks.
