We have stayed in this home twice now and it really works well for our large family Thanksgiving gatherings. Love the game room!! The kids practically lived there. Basketball and pickle ball was great!! The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need to cook minus the food of course. The bedrooms and bathrooms were comfortable and clean. Quick little walk to the beach and restaurants. We would recommend anyone to stay here. Plus you get your steps in with all the stairs!!

this great multilevel property was a perfect place where our family held a 75th birthday celebration. in addition to lots of stairs the house came with lots of kitchen amenities that kept most of "our traveling baking bag" packed up (about the only thing missing was a rolling pin :) and entertainment goodies (especially the pool table and pickleball court) and plenty of room for us all to get together and also to split up into smaller groups.
in addition to maintaining a great property, the owner was very responsive throughout and after, even helping return one of our grands' favourite pillow that was left behind. a+++ all the way. our family continues to take about it and there are already discussions about a return, [std disclaimer: nobody paid us, we paid them and are satisfied customers.]

The house is gigantic with rooms enough to fit many family members. Close to the beach with a ton of gear to borrow. Would love to return some day!
Thank you for an awesome experience.

Even after moving out of state, The Shaw Beach House remains our family's favorite vacation spot. Every visit we've had here has been an absolute blast, and we always leave already planning for our next trip back.
One of the things we love most about this house is how well it accommodates everyone in our family, from the youngest to the oldest. No matter your age, there's something here for everyone to enjoy. And with all the recent updates to the house, we were blown away by how much thought and care the hosts put into making this already-great home even better.
The pickle ball court was a particular highlight for us - we had so much fun playing together as a family! And with all the amenities and thoughtful touches provided by the hosts, we always feel so comfortable and at home here. We truly cannot wait to come back for our next family vacation!

My wife and I rented this beautiful house for our annual summer vacay with our two daughters, their husbands, and our six grandchildren (ages 2-8), and the house was everything we wanted. Plenty of beds and bedrooms, a well-stocked kitchen with two dishwashers (there are also two clothes washers and dryers in the laundry room, which came in handy for our group), a large wraparound deck, a spacious living room, a separate downstairs den with TV where the kids could be together but still be within earshot of the adults, a short walk to a very nice beach (albeit with some steep, uneven stairs from the roadway to navigate - no problem for most folks but potentially an obstacle for anyone with a stroller, wheelchair, walker, cane, etc.). The 2 outdoor showers came in handy for de-sanding the kids when we came back from the beach, and the house came with surfboards, boogie boards, wetsuits in various sizes, and beach chairs. We had a great stay and did not experience any issues at all.

This house is enormous, giving our multiple couples plenty of space to be with one another and apart. Tons of play equipment for little guys and their parents. Very well-stocked kitchen. No issues.

Our experience was top notch! Communication was excellent. The house/property/location all exceeded our expectations (even though the pictures were excellent). The house has everything needed for entertaining (most rentals do not!) including cookware, serving ware, dishes, etc....even 2 dishwashers and two washer/dryers!!!! We used the wet suits, boogie boards, outdoor showers upon returning from the beach, the basketball court, the deck, the pool table, the beach towels, etc....our only regret was that we could not stay longer. This place is a gem!!! Thank you Shaw family for sharing it.

This is our moms groups 20th year going away together. We have stayed at this location 4 times and it is our favorite house by far. The location, size of the house and amenities are perfect. Three refrigerators, 2 dishwashers really help with making our stay easy and comfortable. Not to mention the fully stocked kitchen and toys such as basketballs and pool table. It has everything we want.

This property is really fun for a group of friends. They have thought of everything! The room are clean and cozy, the kitchen is well stocked, the view and beach are darling. I hope we can return!

Plenty of space for all and a gorgeous kitchen and common space. Only suggestions would be to add an outdoor fire table or pit - especially for those cool evenings. Thanks so much!

Our family of 15 loved our stay at this wonderfully unique beach house. The home has an open concept layout with many spacious areas to eat drink and play. We enjoyed playing pool, ping pong, and we spent a lot of time at Sunny Cove Beach just down the street.
We hope to go back to this special property.

Beautiful, comfortable home. Many spaces for hanging out and making good memories. Well-equipped for fun (ping- pong/pool table, basket ball court…. And we’ll-equipped for the beach (chairs/umbrella/towels/boogie boards/wetsuits), which is so close! Appreciated the multitude fridges and dishwashers. Excellent communication with the owners. Thank you!

The house was even better than the pictures and video portrayed. The great room & kitchen made shared meals and meetings very relaxed. We enjoyed the deck, ocean view, short walk to the beach. Everything was a notch above. Including the billiards room and basketball court. Can't wait to come back for a family vacation.

Hate to give the secret away but this house is fantastic! It is a sprawling unique multilevel house which allowed the 14 of us to enjoy our vacation. Be aware there are lots of stairs if that is a concern. Fantastic beach a block away. The bonus wetsuits were perfect for our variety of sizes! Santa Cruz is always special and this house had the perfect location to enjoy it all.
The only con was lack of vent hood for stove. But the double washers and dryers, outside dining area and gas grills were great. Owners were responsive and helpful.

We have 8 adults, 2 teenagers, and 3 kids in our family. We chose this house for our reunion because it provided both indoor and outdoor seating for our meals together and because there were enough bedrooms for us to all be comfortable. It definitely has a quirky floor plan, but that same floor plan allowed everyone to have a space for quiet when needed. We were delighted to find the kitchen has 2 dishwashers - they were definitely needed - and plenty of dinnerware and cookware for anything we needed. The pantry is very small, basically sugar, spices, oil, coffee, tea bags and some condiments in the refrigerator. The laundry has two washers and dryers, which were also very useful with 13 people. The basketball court in the back was used daily and enjoyed a great deal. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. Our 6-year-old grandson proclaimed that it was "the best house ever!"

Our family of 14 stayed for a week and loved every minute of this unique house in a great area. Photos can’t capture the multi-level sprawl (note there are lots of stairs). Beach is a short walk to Sunny Cove or drive to many cool beaches nearby (loads of beach gear provided). House is awesome to play sardines with lots of separate spaces, movie night, ping pong/pool/basketball challenges, and family cooking in the well provisioned kitchen. Rooms are nicely done, including the large bunk area for ALL the kids AND plenty of bathrooms (a must for our large family, also TWO washers and dryers). Don’t miss the farmers market on Sunday just a block away.

Our family was traveling to California for a wedding. We were looking for a place that would comfortably hold 12 people (7 adults and 5 children ages 9-11). This place exceeded our expectations! There was enough room for the kids to have fun and the parents and grandparents to relax. If we ever make it back to Santa Cruz we will definitely be booking this house again!

A perfect rental for multiple families. We so enjoyed the fact it was close to the beach and boardwalk! The amenities in this house were amazing. Our family had such a great time, and we hope to rent this house again in the future! Thank you❤️

I cannot say enough good things about this property. A superb location, just a short walk to an ocean where we and our kids reveled in the ocean waves. We stayed at this home for a week with our group of 13 family members. The property was spotlessly clean, and spacious as well. Many rooms to explore. The grandkids enjoyed sleeping together in the room with the bunk beds. Our infant granddaughter used one of three Graco port-a-cribs. Everyone remarked how comfortable the beds were. Lots and lots of dishes, kitchenware, extra towels, two washers, two driers, and two diswashers in the kitchen. Even a couple of boogie boards for the nearby ocean cove. The many comfortable chairs and sofas allowed us to gather for conversation when desired, and the many rooms afforded privacy when we needed it. The inside of the home seemed to be newly remodeled, with careful planning and fine quality materials, which we enjoyed. (Even the outside shower for rinsing off had hot water.) At the same time, there was nothing fragile to worry about. We didn't have to worry about our kids breaking things. If we return to the area, we will definitely rent this home again.

Came here to celebrate my moms 60th bday. The property was very spacious and pleasant and worked well for us (8 adults and 5 kids/babies). The beach is right down the street and Amber gave us a great dinner recommendation!

Three generations of our family came together in the Shaw Beach house to celebrate our 90 year old matriarch. The house was enjoyed by everyone: the pool table, game room and basketball court for the 20 somethings, the sea view from the living room and the deck, the well equipped kitchen that could accommodate many chefs and even more diners, the comfortable beds and luxurious linens, and the many upgrades and updates installed by the Shaws.

Pros: location is literally less than 5 mins walk to beach, there are lots of bedrooms in the house great for large families, kitchen floor area is decent, basketball court is nice, host was accommodating with our kids' situation
Cons: the layout of house is strange, some of the bedrooms and bathrooms were very outdated, there were ants in our bathroom, we had to buy our own detergent to wash our laundry (check-out process is a lot of work)
Overall, we had a great time at the house b/c it was a good size for our family and we really enjoyed the easy stroll to the beach. However, families should be aware of what they are getting into b/c the house has a weird layout with random stairs and some of the bathrooms/bedrooms were gross & outdated. The host was nice and good with communication until the end where we couldn't find detergent to wash & dry the laundry that was required upon checkout so we had to go to the store to buy some (not ideal).

This quirky old house with an AMAZING staircase (The twisted oak banister was crafted from a single piece of wood!) was perfect for the nine of us to spread out in! Lots of space and lots of surprising nooks and crannies, lots of beautiful natural light and fabulous location. Most of the beds were extremely comfortable and the fun layout provided a wonderful balance of family time and privacy. Set on a very quiet street in the heart of Eastside, we could not have hoped for a better place to spend out family vacation weekend.
Had the fallen leaves piled up at the front entrance to the house been cleaned up, and the kitchen stove just a bit more tidy on our arrival, I would have given this place 5 stars for cleanliness. Neither of these issues were a deal-breaker for us, just minor issues.
I would definitely recommend this place for a large group spot!

Perfect house for celebrating birthday with close friends. Cool backyard space. Interesting layout. Great kitchen that was well stocked. Lots of living spaces to allow for people to spread out. The pictures don't do the house justice in terms of just how big it is. The beach equipment was extremely helpful!

We came here for a long weekend with our kids, age 8 and 12, and grandparents and had a great time. The main kitchen and living room is light and open with a big deck to enjoy a bit of an ocean view and a fireplace when it gets cool. The house is multileveled with lots of quiet bedrooms tucked away from the main living area. The kids loved the big bunk room and loft. Downstairs was great for the kids too as they played pool and ping pong. We loved the easy walks to two different beaches - the smaller Sunny Cove just one block away and the bigger Blacks Beach about half a mile away. And there was a lot of fun had playing basketball in the back on the sports court. Amber was a great host and super responsive. We hope to come back someday with the kids’ cousins for even more beach fun.

The 14 of us stayed the week. Plenty of room for all ages and the kids bunk room was just incredible. The kids stayed in there all night giggling.

Thank you Amber for the amazing 60th birthday celebration we had in Santa Cruz! We had to postpone last year due to COVID, and we were pleasantly rewarded for enduring the wait! This house easily accommodated our entire family (10 adults, 5 grandkids). The separated sleeping areas gave each family privacy when we needed it, and the group gathering areas were wonderful for dining, playing games, and gabbing in general. The pool table and Ping-Pong table saw lots of action, and the 2 huge TVs were great for watching sporting events together as well as hosting kids movie night. The large kitchen has an abundant supply of dishes, utensils, and appliances. Having 2 large dishwashers really came in handy, as well as the second fridge downstairs to accommodate all the ingredients for our cook-at-home gourmet dining! The outdoor sport court was perfect for the kids to get outside and play together in a safe and enclosed area – and the ‘kid-at-heart’ adults enjoyed the space just as much! The big deck provided more than enough seating for all of us to eat together, with a lovely view of the ocean. Sunny Cove Beach was a short walk right down the street which felt like our own private beach on the weekdays. The larger Corcoran Beach was a few blocks away and offered a wide expanse of sand with space from other groups. We appreciated the supply of beach chairs, ocean boards, and wet suits – so wonderful to have those available – and the outdoor showers were convenient and much appreciated upon our return. Overall, we got to spend quality time together, in a beautiful setting, equipped with everything we needed – now THAT’S how to celebrate!!

What a wonderful house in a wonderful neighborhood. So beautiful and nicely appointed with everything you could need for a big group. More than enough room for multiple families and kids to be together or spread out. Just fabulous.

My family and I spent Labor Day weekend here and this place is an absolutely dream! Super clean, tastefully updated, and HUGE! We loved the large patio area that offered a lovely view of the ocean. It was also walking distance to restaurants and shops making it a super convenience place to stay! Would definitely recommend and we will definitely be booking this place again!

We have rented a home for a three generation vacation for multiple years. This house is huge. It probably has more amenities than any VRBO house we have ever rented. The kitchen is super well stocked. There was hand soap in all of the bathrooms and laundry supplies in the laundry room. The location is terrific. You can easily walk to multiple beaches. You can walk to a small grocery store, to a liquor store, to the dollar store, to a brew pub, Starbucks and much much more. BUT…What I don’t think is made clear with pictures and the house description is how disjointed it is. For example the “kids” room with nine twin beds is right off the kitchen and not really near another bedroom where the parents might be sleeping. This did create a bit of a problem with the youngest child. Also, the bathroom for all of those beds has no door. There is a curtain but my 10-year-old granddaughter was not happy about that. The owner is clear that the house is not for anyone who has mobility issues but there are many many stairs which you need to be aware of. To move about the house you are always going up and down stairs. There are two large TVs in the two family room areas on a lower floor. We really would have liked a television on an upper floor where the kitchen is located. Everyone did enjoy it… my 15-year-old grandson said it was his favorite house we had ever rented. I just wish we had been a little more aware of the layout of the house.
The barbecue probably needs some repair. The flames did not come out of all of the holes equally making BBQing somewhat difficult. Oh, and we would have liked bicycles. As I said the house was very well stocked but we missed having bicycles available.

We had wonderful time in this home. There are plenty of spaces for people to spread out -- on the big deck, in the pool/ping pong/big screen TV room, or the family room. Beach is literally 4 houses away. Everything was close by. We want to rent it again for another family reunion. We even had a proposal by one of the sons on the beach in Capitola and then the family celebrated on the deck. PERFECT!
