Beautiful place with beautiful views. While the house shows signs of aging, shower handles not easy to work, older appliances the host is ABSOLUTELY quick to respond to any questions or concerns and has a on site assistant ready to help. Very comfortable, views outstanding local restaurant The Phoenix awesome!!!!!! We would definitely come back!

We spent a month in this lovely home about 30 miles outside of downtown La Fortuna. The house has a great modern design with three comfy bedrooms and three bathrooms. Adding comfortable outdoor seating and an outdoor dining area would be a great addition. Also needs a grill if you enjoy cooking at home as we do. Stephanie, the Housekeeper, is very responsive and thorough. Lovely person too. This house is also close to the best hiking trails in the area. We highly recommend this as a place to stay for exploring all the area has to offer.

Great host and on property care taker. Incredible views and space for a family of 5. Game room below with pool bar and talk to the care take to help turn on the hot tub after a long awaited day of hiking. Location is key to all the Arenal area without being in LaFortuna. Day trips to 1968 park, La Roca canyoning a must for the adventure seeker, hanging bridges walk, pool side sunny days and a view of Arenal was epic to clear for us. Highly recommended! Bring your store stuff however there is a market 2 min away and excellent restaurant for basics. Chef at the house was arranged for two nights and was a nice meal. Overall a great host and very knowledgeable about the place and all the best to do. Our family of 5 adults enjoyed our stay.

This home is an amazing place! It’s in a fairly secluded location partway up a mountain, the road up is rough (though I never needed 4 wheel drive), but once you see the view from the terrace, those facts become features rather than bugs. To say the view is stunning would be an understatement. And the wildlife! Do you know what a coati is? I didn’t until one sauntered through the yard. Hawks were enjoying soaring on the thermals in the early evening during our stay and seeing them swoop over the terrace roof 15 feet from us was thrilling. We’re not usually bird watchers, but we found the spectrum of birds the Merlin Bird ID app identified fascinating. The house itself is beautiful, with every door hand carved, plenty of amenities, and a comfortable place to stay. Yes, occasionally an ant comes in the house, but it’s literally a jungle out there, so nothing unexpected or bothersome. It took us 30 minutes or less to get to the thermal spas, horseback riding, sloth tours, and other activities and shops in La Fortuna. There are also various markets, restaurants and activities within a few minutes of the house. The owner Jim was tremendously helpful with suggestions, very accommodating, and extremely prompt with communication. My husband and I had a magnificent experience and would definitely want to stay at Jim’s house again.

The house and grounds were amazing. Perfect for the 3 couples that went. The view of the lake was great.
The house is about 35-40 minutes to La Fortuna. There are limited dining choices in the area but Restaurante El Patio at the end of the "street" (about 1/2 mile from the house, was delicious and the employees were so friendly!
It is a wonderful house stocked with everything you need. I would definitely stay there again.

You might look at these pictures and think this place is too good to be true...we can assure you...it is as beautiful as the pictures suggest. You will be staying in an oasis. We loved just sitting on one of the many porches and watching the wildlife of Costa Rica surround us. Jim is an amazing host...probably the best we've ever had. Very responsive to any questions and provides a ton of info upfront. Do be prepared for the road leading up to the house---we had a front wheel drive van that made it up okay--but definitely would have preferred an all-wheel/4-wheel drive vehicle--particularly in the rain (a good idea anywhere in Costa Rica outside of San Jose). We highly recommend this property to anyone who wants a little oasis to themselves.

Our stay was great. Jim was SO helpful through the entire process, super responsive and easy to communicate with, gave suggestions on things to do and even booked a chef for us one night. The place is nice and views are great, tons of birds and even saw some monkeys on the property. The road up to the property is a bit hard, but it’s quick and we were able to manage with only 2WD. Was about 35 minutes drive to downtown la Fortuna, tons of hot springs in between the property and la fortuna. Would recommend to anyone staying in the area!

The views are million dollar — both the lake and the volcano right there! The host is very responsive and helpful. We also highly recommend the restaurant Terrazzas del Arenal in El Castillo 5 minutes away. This home is perfectly located with just a short drive to La Fortuna, El Castillo, Mistico Hanging Bridges, Sky Adventures, the Butterfly Conservatory and the Lava Fields. Beautiful views from every bedroom and an amazing pool deck. The host was one of the most responsive individuals I've ever dealt with on VRBO and was a true pleasure. I wouldn't hesitate to book this property again.

We rented the house solely because of the view of Arenal. On my previous trip, it was hidden by class the entire time. Views were incredible. House had plenty of room, pool was enjoyed by the kids, Jim was super responsive, and overall a nice time was had.

We very much enjoyed our stay! Jim was a fantastic host. We ran into a major issue at the house that was completely out of Jim’s or our control, but Jim was able to quickly implement a solution and already had a back up plan in place in case this type of issue ever happened. We were pleasantly surprised and relieved! We were very well taken care of and felt that Jim made sure we were a priority during our stay. The area surrounding the house is so peaceful and the views are amazing! We didn’t get to see any howler monkeys but we heard them on occasion. We also heard and saw a lot of birds as well as some cows if they happened to be close by. The house itself was nice and very spacious. All of the linens, bathrooms on the main level, and kitchenware were clean. There are some bugs that manage to creep in past the window and door screens and we had to make sure counters were kept clean to avoid ants, but the house is surrounded by nature so it’s to be expected. I am one who hates bugs but I didn’t feel icky or gross while in the house if that tells you anything. The breeze coming through the house was very refreshing during the afternoon storms! A 4-wheel drive vehicle is helpful getting up the last leg of the drive up the mountain. There is a small store and a few restaurants near the house. El Patio Al Carbón was our favorite and Howler’s was good too! Howlers is cash only* Overall, we enjoyed our stay and really appreciated Jim’s hospitality!

Jim’s place was wonderful! We were a large family with a 4 year old and 1 year old and we all were so happy with the home and all amenities.
The house was located off the beaten path of the exciting and busy La Fortuna but close enough to get to it and hanging bridges, coffee and hot chocolate tours, hot springs, Fortuna Waterfall and Arenal Volcano. The house had great coffee, restaurants and a great bakery all close by.
We would recommend this house to anyone and if we ever come back to CR, we know we would stay here for sure!

We had a great time staying here. Jim, the owner, was excellent at communication in advance and met us at the property upon arrival. We had read about the road/driveway in several of the reviews, it is pretty steep but nothing to be worried about. There are multiple restaurants around the property, some can be walked to and all serve excellent food. We would absolutely stay here again, the house is beautiful and in a setting that cannot quite be described!

This home was everything and more! Home was gorgeous and clean! Pool was refreshing, a/c units worked well, communication was fast and easy...perfect! This house is about 30 min from LaFortuna but worth every bit of the gorgeous drive! You won't be sorry if you rent this home...you just won't want to leave!

Jim was great to communicate with and was there to show us around when we checked in. The house is large and sits up on a hill with gorgeous views. Tons of birds. Very peaceful. Be aware that you’ll be about 30 min outside of La Fortuna and driving up and down a winding rocky road.

The property offers incredible views of both the lake and the volcano. If you like birds, this is a great place to hear and watch them. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds and butterflies. There is plenty of shaded outdoor space to enjoy the views. The pool was cleaned during our 4 day stay. Jim was very responsive via whatsapp. We would absolutely stay here again.

This home has the most amazing setting overlooking both the volcano and the lake. It is absolutely stunning! There is so much wildlife and incredible bird-watching right from the porch. The nightly chorus of tree frogs and howler monkeys just makes it that much more special. The pool and jacuzzi were a bonus and the house was comfortable, though needed a little more attention to details. Nothing major, just minor things. Overall all, a great place to rent.

Beautiful house, pool and gardens. Owner provides a very accurate description on the VRBO website. Jim was terrific at patiently answering all of my questions before we came and during our stay. The house was bigger then we needed for my husband and me but we choose it for the privacy of the location. Stayed at the house 14 days. Most days we were hiking with a private bird guide, however, we still managed to spot 96 different species of birds from the house and surrounding property. We spotted yellow throated toucans, keel bill toucans, collared aracari, white crowned parrots, red fronted parrotlets, all from the living room deck! Pool was nice but water was colder then we like during our stay in March. Hot tub was nice to have. Comfortable bed in master. Like having a locked front gate, felt very comfortable and secure. Only thing we felt was missing was a safe for passports and extra cash. Ate at Phoenix, Loma Linda and El Patio restaurants all 3 very close to the house and all excellent. Recommend renting 4 wheel drive car. If you're into birding, we recommend guide Gerald Pereira from birding experiences

The property owner is the Property Manager and just a wonderful helpful person who only has your comfort and stay in mind. Jim walked us through the house making sure we were comfortable about everything including the operation of the pool and hot tub. The hot tub felt amazing after a day of zip lining, hanging bridges and whatever you do. The house has a stunning view of Arenal Lake and just to the right sits the Arenal Volcano. If you want a little distance between you and the touristy area of Fortuna, look no further. It’s out of town, yet sits within 5 minutes from the Adventure land of Sky Trek and close to all the local hot springs. Overall 5 Stars in every category. Come stay and enjoy!

The view from this property across the lake with the mountains in the background was amazing. The garden was full of birds, including many hummingbirds. The owner gave very clear directions to the property and how to use the hot tub. The location was great to visit the hot springs and various eco reserves.

My family (two adults and two teens) stayed here on a family vacation over New Year’s. It was our first time to Costa Rica and we were blown away. This house was situated to where you had a perfect view of all of Lake Arenal as well as Arenal volcano. Most days were cloudy b/c well it rains a lot in the rainforest but our last day there it was clear and you had an amazing view of the volcano. The house has plenty of amenities and was very well laid out. Great patios with hammocks that overlooked the lake with priceless views. ACs worked great in each of the bedrooms as well. Jim, the owner, was super responsive whenever we had a question about anything. There were a handful of great restaurants nearby us as well as a couple small markets. This house had everything we needed and we would definitely stay here again. I highly recommend this house if you are looking for great views, great accommodations and a very responsive owner.

This property is spectacular! We stayed there with our two boys ages 6 and 8 and they loved it. The view is stunning and the property is like a park. Casa Cieba is well located near our favorite activities Sky Adventure Zip Lines, Mystico Hanging Bridges and Baldi Hot Springs. Jim was very helpful and responsive in providing directions and answering all of my questions. Casa Cieba is a truly special house : )

We traveled around Costa Rica and landed in La Fortuna and so glad we did. Jim was such a great host and the house, perfect! Very comfortable, super clean, and had everything we needed for our stay. The pool was clean, beds super comfortable. We loved the view and loved the sweet restaurant just steps away. We will be back.

I loved the house. It was lovely and the owner Jim was so pleasant to work with. The only thing I have to mention, is it’s location. If you’re looking for the countryside, this is it!! If you want to have quick access to La Fortuna, expect a 30 minute drive. Do know that there are plenty of restaurants, mini marts and outdoor adventures just minutes from the home though. I personally loved the peace and quiet surrounding this home, whereas my metropolitan friends would have preferred staying closer to the city. Last thing, we heard howler monkeys every morning along with numerous tropical birds! It doesn’t get much better than that.

This was not only our first time visiting Costa Rica, but the very first time we have taken our children to another country. Let me start by saying, the house and property far surpassed our expectations! You can sit on the balcony sipping your coffee in the morning while being entertained by the sounds of the Costa Rican wildlife with the Arenal volcano literally right in your view! Take a day tour and come home to a lovely pool to cool off in. My kids loved the house and pool. Jim, the owner of the property, was so incredibly attentive. I have never rented a home where someone cared so much about the contentment of their tenants. He was so responsive, and helped us in more ways than I can tell you, with issues and concerns we had having nothing to do with the property itself. As I mentioned, this was our first time here, and we did have concerns about driving from San Jose, where to get food, etc. He gave thorough directions, eased our worries (A LOT), and gave us pointers on where to go for things. I am so grateful for his hospitality and guidance, and I would HIGHLY recommend renting this property for anyone coming to Costa Rica for the first time, but honestly for anyone. I can tell you with certainty that when we come back to Costa Rica (which we definitely will), we would want to stay here again! A HUGE shout out to Jim, a million thank you’s! Our unforgettable trip was made so much better because of you!
A few recommendations: check out the Phoenix restaurant, it’s walking distance and their food is incredible! Also, Jim may offer to have someone come in to make you and your family dinner. DO IT!!! Our meal was incredible! Lastly, I highly recommend doing some tours. We did zip lining. Valcano tour with lunch & hot springs, hanging bridges tour, and sloth watching tour. All were amazing, zip lining was my kids’ favorite.

If you are looking for a cool jungle hideout off the beaten path this is the place. It is a 20 minute drive to La Fortuna and has a great view of the lake and Mt Arenal. I would definitely stay there again.

Pros: communication with the owner was great, the views of the lake and the pool/hot tub were enjoyable.
Cons: there were so many bugs all over this property. The owner was great to send a cleaner to try to help but we just kept finding tiny ants all over the counters, walls, clothes, and sometimes in our food. Then the last night we found evidence of possible bed bugs in the master bedroom. I hope the owner takes that seriously and addresses the issue because the property has so much potential to be wonderful. We also had the power go out three times and had to adjust to the idea that the hot tub took two hours to heat up every time we wanted to use it. It’s also a good 30-40 minute drive into town, which was further than I realized so it required a lot of driving. We were tolerant of everything and still enjoyed our stay other than the bugs.
