Boathouse only accessed by boat\/canoe\/kayak NO WIFI
About this docked boat rental
Situated in Stecoah, this attractive docked boat for R 2,443 per night is a great option for your next vacation. Please check cancellation policy and read the rental agreement in its entirety BEFORE booking. NO charging of Boat batteries, coolers, and NO running of CPAP machines allowed. Please note the solar power limitations on NOT having anything plugged in that is drawing power for more than 3-4 hours especially on cloudy days. Guests that do not follow the rental agreement, posted instructions inside the boathouse, and check out instructions with detailed instructions on texting all the required photos, will lose their security deposit. For guests using my canoe or to access closest boat launch. It is CRITICAL to make arrangements ASAP at booking w Oros Landing (locked gated private local boat launch-no rental equipment/no gas/no supplies) since it can take time for them to respond. There is a security camera on the roof: Any guests caught on camera accessing the roof will be fined $1000. ABSOLUTELY NO ROOF ACCESS! It is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL to either PRINT or make a SCREEN SHOT of KEY CODE & instructions BEFORE traveling to the boathouse because there is NO WIFI at boathouse & approx 5-10 miles away. Guests CANNOT access the VRBO app. to pull up the key code or info at the boathouse/immediate area and will receive NO REFUNDS if they don't have the keycode when at the boathouse because this was not done. Guests will need to have their own boat/kayak/canoe or use my canoe (30-45 minute paddle) to arrive at the boathouse, a remodeled 265 sq ft solar powered floating cabin which is located in a sheltered cove in the Stecoah Creek area directly on Fontana Lake which is about 150 feet deep at the boathouse (no shore, no wading area so ALL guests must be strong swimmers). The boathouse can only be accessed by water and is not at the end of a dock. Guests without boat/kayak/canoe or not wanting to use my canoe can call Fontana Marina at 828-498-2017 to arrange for $100 round trip per person. The closest boat launch from the boathouse (about 30-45 minute canoe/kayak paddle) is Oros Landing which can be booked in advance by calling the owner and paying $10/night for parking, launching, and $15/night w trailer, and keyed gated access. Guests not wanting to use Oros Landing can launch further away at Cable Cove, Fontana Marina, or Prince Boat Dock (all about 30 minutes away with a power boat). Guests will need to bring their own life jackets, drinking water, sleeping bags/sheets/pillow cases/towels. There is no cleaning service, no cleaning fee, and no laundry service. There is NO ROOF ACCESS allowed on the boathouse. Guests that are caught on the roof on the security camera will be charged $1000 fine. The solar panels and connections are on the roof and prior guests that have climbed on the roof have dented the roof and broken the solar connections leaving following guests without power. The boathouse is totally off the grid which means no shore power, no cable television, no WIFI, no phone, no AC, no heat, and probably no cell service. Guests needing to keep ANYTHING that draws power plugged in for extended periods of time and CPAP machines running all night will most likely run out of power and will NOT have a good experience. Guests need to check the weather for the Robbinsville area before heading out to make sure they are prepared for the weather. No cancellation refunds because of weather. There are other boathouses in the area which can be occasionally occupied on the weekend by their owners. The closest boathouse to my boathouse is currently unoccupied. The boathouse features a kitchen area with Italian granite tiled kitchen, and pebble tiled backsplash, under counter fridge/freezer and 2 burner cooktop, bar seating for 3, French press for coffee, dinnerware and utensils, basic kitchen supplies, pots/pans, and paper towels/garbage bags. The boathouse has a water filtration system but guests will need to bring water to a boil on cooktop to ensure water is safe to drink. The living room area features a reclining full sized futon, and 32" TV with blue ray player with approx. 50 DVD's, books and games. The bedroom area has (2) full/double beds (1 of which is a bunk bed). Pillows are provided but guests will need to bring their own bedding/linens/towels/ect. The bathroom features a 12 sq ft slate tiled shower, sink, and marine toilet with marine toilet paper provided. The partially covered front deck area faces the lake and National Forest and has a picnic table, propane grill with spare 20 lb propane tanks. There is a double kayak included with the rental when at the boathouse. This rental is a unique property for guests that are adaptable to working with solar power, marine toilet, water pump, propane water heater and are able to provide their own linens/towels, and drinking water. The boat house does not have a cleaning crew so guests will need to clean the boathouse thoroughly before check out and remove all garbage on departure. The boathouse is stocked with Marine toilet paper, paper towels, bio degradable soap for washing dishes/hands/shampoo, and garbage bags. There are some spices/salt/pepper and basic kitchen supplies. Pets are not allowed on the furniture or beds and guests are requested to refrain from allowing pets in the boathouse when wet. Lake Fontana water levels vary during the year but the boat house is always floating.

This was my third trip to the boathouse and my first going solo and first in the fall. It’s gorgeous and the lake was warmer than it was outside. Only negative thing is that I was only able to spend one night due to a last minute family obligation. This place is pure magic. Every time I go I scour the internet for houseboats for sale. It’s not a typical “vacation”, but if it sounds like something you’d love you absolutely will.

Beautiful place to stay, Gaylene has put a lot of thought and effort into making this spot enjoyable and easy to navigate a setup you may not be familiar with! Would definitely recommend

My 65 year old mother and I stayed at this house boat for the first time over Labor Day. Gaylene was an awesome host and made the check in/out process super easy by providing us with specific instructions and ample information. We opted to use her canoe and docked at the Orlos boat landing. We struggled a bit to find the dock area because it was unmarked, but luckily we ran into a few locals who were nice enough to point us in the right direction. It took us about 30 mins to row out there, the lake was super calm and paddling wasn’t too hard. The house boat is beautiful and had everything we could possibly need! The views were incredible and the water was the perfect temperature. The lake was pretty much empty so it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves! It was a truly magical experience and we can’t wait to go back!

This is the second year we have stayed here and it was even better than last time. The power was even longer lasting and we had zero issues. Gaylene's instructions were clear and easy to follow. Thanks so much and we can't wait to stay again!

This is my second stay and I enjoyed it just as much as my first. Be sure to bring bug spray if you're staying in August, the black flies were no joke.

Couldn't imagine a more picturesque and beautiful spot. Already planning on going back!

This is an excellent spot to relax with nature and enjoy the water. There were very few boats or other people around. The house is as advertised, be sure to read the description as this is not your typical rental, but it’s wonderful and a great adventure. If you are staying before fall 2023, be aware that the refrigerator took several days to cool down to a safe temperature, so take plenty of ice in your cooler. The owner is replacing it soon so it shouldn’t be an issue much longer.

Nice property, well appointed and surprisingly equipped for such a remote property. Water was beautiful and warm. Good communication with the property manager.

The property was as promised. Very well appointed and comfortable for two grown adults to enjoy a few days on the lake. We brought our own boat and had no issues tying up and getting to good fishing grounds. It was very cloudy for a few days, so the battery power struggled at times but witha grill and propane cooktop everything worked out, great,. I would recommend bringing a water filter to have drinking water And a few lanterns just to conserve power when needed.
Overall im putting it in our list of return spots.

I had an absolutely amazing stay at this house on the lake. The scenery was simply breathtaking, and the remote location allowed me to truly unwind and forget about the stresses of everyday life. The peacefulness of the area was so rejuvenating, and I found myself feeling more relaxed and refreshed every day. The house itself was cozy and comfortable, and I felt right at home from the moment I arrived. There were so many fun activities to enjoy on the lake, and I spent my days swimming, fishing, and boating. It was truly a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
I am so grateful to Gaylene and her Wonderful husband for sharing her beautiful home with us. It was clear that she had put a lot of thought and care into making sure that her guests had everything they needed to enjoy their stay. I will definitely be returning to this amazing place every year to recharge my batteries and take a break from the fast pace of city life. Thank you, Gaylene, for providing such a wonderful retreat for us to enjoy!

My boyfriend and I stayed in this boathouse to celebrate my 30th birthday, and it was such a pleasant experience. All the instructions were to the T, and everything turned out to be a great weekend getaway. I may add that the pictures online don’t do this place justice! We will BE BACK!!! Until next time. Cheers!!!

We had a wonderful 2 nights at this property. The owners are very upfront about everything and the instructions are very clear. We had no issues. We used our own kayaks and parked at Oros Landing. Lily Oros was very kind and easy to deal with. If you use Oros Landing I suggest asking exactly where they want you to park, we just parked on the boat ramp, but we weren’t sure if that was what we were supposed to do or not, but all was well.
Everything was as pictured and as described. We will definitely book again in the future.

While I was staying there, I was cooking dinner on the grill and all the sudden the fire alarm started beeping inside so I figured it was due to the smoke from the grill and I tried to get it to stop and I couldn't It wouldn't stop beeping. So I pulled it off of the wall and managed to get it to stop making noise and I set it by the propane tank where I had some of my stuff unloaded and stored at. Anyhow I finished cooking dinner and enjoyed the rest of the evening not thinking about the annoying fire alarm and finished out the weekend enjoying the houseboat which was actually very nice. Anyhow I never thought to rehang up the fire alarm between swimming, fishing, and fighting the rain. So apparently the next guests heard the beeping too and claimed they couldn't get a good night's sleep so the owner reimbursed them for that night and took it out of my deposit because I took it off of the wall. Which got me to thinking the batteries and it must have been going bad because it was a propane grill and it really wasn't even putting off any smoke I just assumed that it was my fault. So she took $130 from me blaming it on me for their bad night I will never go back even though I was going to plan on going back two times next year and probably be regular customer. That will not happen now.

We enjoyed our stay on the house boat very much! Fontana Lake is beautiful, relatively undeveloped and the water is clear and calm. As would be expected, there is a slight rocking motion to the house boat, but the boat traffic was pretty mild, even on a holiday weekend; albeit a rainy one. There were more house boats than I was expecting, but they were spaced out nicely. It was pretty quiet and restful. We did have a good bit of rain during our stay, which hindered some of our paddling plans, but we were content to relax in the house boat and read and watch movies until the clouds broke.

Great way to access the lake. House is exactly as described, very comfortable.

Great spot. Everything is comfortable and clean. Love the peacefulness. 5 out of 5 all day. Only issue is that the neighbor this year had a generator running 24/7 for the 3 days we were there. Not sure they were even on the lake. But that’s not on Gaylene or her property. We’ll be back next year.

We loved staying in this adorable tiny floating house. It had everything we needed for a wonderful week on the lake. Such a gorgeous part of the lake, and we wish to come back.

Sweet, peaceful getaway ❤️
If your looking for a fun, relaxing, perfect haven to get away from it all - this is your place!! It’s our 3rd time here and has become our yearly escape. I’m always sad to leave and paddle away looking forward to the next time. Gaylene is amazing and goes above and beyond to make sure you have all you need for a great stay. I can’t say enough good things about this little treasure. We’ve even given it as a wedding gift and they fell in love it with as well. This is a unique and special place for sure ❤️

great getaway!
overall wonderful experience! Fontana is truly unique and we loved every minute of it. The house was just what we expected and suited our family of four quite well. The “neighborhood” was not quite as private as we expected, but was still ok, other than the 24x7 generator running at the boat house next door. We desensitized to it a little as time passed, but that was disappointing, although no fault of this listing owner. If you plan to use a power boat, keep a close eye out for logs in the water. We’ve never seen so many in a lake before.

Water cabin
Getting to the cabin was easier than anticipated. Had a mile or so beautiful paddle in the provided canoe even loaded down with supplies, 2 kids and a dog. Fontana is always enjoyable to swim in during the summer and the cabin deck/platform was a perfect jumping off point. Had a very enjoyable time and for what it was/expected it was perfect. Only negative was the neighboring boat/house kept their gas generator on constantly even at night but not a big deal.

Adorable boathouse on beautiful Fontana
My husband and I truly enjoyed our two day getaway in this boathouse. It had everything we needed to have a comfortable stay. Grilling out was easy with all the cooking utensils that were onsite. No air conditioner/window unit but I was okay with it. Opening all the windows and turning the fan on did the trick. I definitely plan on revising!
