We so enjoyed our visit to the Quietside. The cottage was great and the views even better. Kim, our host, was very responsive.
The cottage was peaceful and perfect for our fist Acadia visit.

We rented this home for my parents while we stayed in the larger nearby home with our children for a fall time vacation. The home is just beautiful with a lovely balcony view of the private cove on a nature preserve. My parents thoroughly enjoyed their stay, although the stairs were a little bit steep for their liking. They also would have appreciated better lighting at night to signal where the walkway was to enter the home from the driveway since they had arrived at night. The home was warm and cozy with very comfortable beds and everything they needed. While the home is just a few steps away from the bigger house that you can rent with it, it maintains its own privacy through creative and lovely landscaping and trees between the homes. We are so glad we rented this home since we had such a large group. It was perfect and well worth it! The owners were very responsive, kind, and helpful—never intrusive. We highly recommend this home!

Beautiful house with amazing landscaping on the quiet side. Perfectly appointed with all the essentials. I’ve never seen more stars on clear nights - got some great shots of the Milky Way. Wish we had more time to enjoy the beach (and loons) on the property! We got too caught up in trying to see all of Acadia — should have planned more time at the house.

A lovely place to stay on the quiet side of MDI. A ton of good hikes and bike rides to take, the house is comfortable and well appointed.

We rented the carriage house along with the larger adjacent house for a week vacation with our kids and grandkids. Together they provided us everything we needed. The location, close to Acadia but away from the crowds in Bar Harbor, was just what we were looking for. We will come back.

Wonderful vacation house!
What an amazing week at the Caggiage house! Our family of four just got back from our week long vacation to Acadia and could not have been more happy with this cottage. Beautiful views of a peaceful cove in a nature preserve with a rocky beach. See deer walking along the beach at sunrise, osprey on their nest, gorgeous sunset views from far end of the cove, ample opportunities to find shells, sand dollars, sea urchins, and jellyfish along with the typical periwinkles and crabs. Can also use canoe and kayaks for paddling around the cove. From the canoe we even saw a deer and her fawn crossing through the water as the tide went out. Beds were comfy, kitchen well stocked, stairs to master were steep as described but not unmanageable, washer and dryer very handy! Wi-fi network had changed and the owner responded quickly to text with new password. We did a lot of the typical Acadia attractions (Sand Beach, Thunder hole, Jordan Pond, Bass Harbor light, Cadillac sunset etc) but honestly could have been happy just staying in the cove all week! Another bonus was the family staying in the adjacent Cove house had similar aged children which made it even more fun! If you're looking to stay on the quiet side of MDI, I can't recommend this cottage enough!

Old cabin with great character
The cabin’s setting was incredible! It was great to walk on the beach that at least this time of the year was very private! It is a no frills cabin, we loved being there! Great communication with host

Quiet and secluded yet just minutes away from all the major attractions MSI has to offer: Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Ellsworth. Thurston's Lobster Pound is under 2 miles away and serves the best lobster rolls.

Wow! RIchard and Mary Ann are a delightful couple and wonderful hosts. Communication was awesome all along the way (they helped us sort out some coronavirus travel concerns). The cottage worked very well for our two-week stay on the quiet side of MDI. Great WiFi, which was important to us. The grill came in handy and the kitchen was equipped with all we needed. Overlooking the beautiful cove was relaxing and serene with a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The beach is close by and made for an enjoyable walk - with tennis shoes (it's rocky rather than sandy!). Beds were comfortable and the cottage is equipped with all necessities. As the hosts have stated, the stairs up to the loft and 2nd bedroom are steep, but manageable. We really enjoyed our MDI visit and highly recommend staying at Mary Ann and Richard's cottage. Thank you! We'll definitely be back!

Beautiful home in lovely location, perfect for our annual family get-together. The Cove House and Cottage accommodated 11 of us with ease and room to spare. Short walk to shore-side, perfect for exploring. Quiet, peaceful, relaxing.

Comfortable, pretty, and quiet
Other reviews have said it all. This is a delightful cottage, well located, comfortable, pretty, quiet, and with lovely views. The cove it overlooks is grand and the sunsets spectacular. Nice markets, a wonderful bakery, and good restaurants nearby. I look forward to returning.

Great “quiet side” rental, convenient to Thurston’s Lobster Pound. What more could one ask?

A Wonderful Visit
This was our second visit to the Cove Cottage. Just as before, Mary Ann and Richard were wonderful hosts, full of interesting ideas and great suggestions. What makes the Cottage especially appealing is that Acadia National Park, with all of its attractions, is all around you. Jordan Pond, Wildwood Stables Thunderhole, Cadillac Mountain, and the Park Loop in general are all reasonably close at hand. A multitude of hiking/walking trails also abound all around you. Whether you crave gentle trails or challenging cliffs, beautiful paths through the woods past lakes and ponds, or exciting stone walkways to the ocean, all are reasonably short drives from the Cottage. So too are Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Bar Harbor with their interesting shops and appealing restaurants. And don't forget the many museums and an outstanding repertoire theater (Somesville).
Should you wish to just stay put and relax at the Cottage you won't be disappointed. The sights and sounds of the inlet and surrounding woods will free your mind from life's normal hectic pace.
Simply stated, you will be wonderfully pleased and wish you had more time!

Perfect location!
We rented the cottage along with the Cove House for our larger family. It was perfect. Most of the meals were cooked in the larger house, but kids bounced back between the house and cottage to play games and watch movies. We explored Acadia National Park and did quite a bit of hiking, so it was great to come back and rest at the house. Richard and MaryAnn were great hosts! I would highly recommend this location!

Amazing trip! Wonderful accommodations!
This was our first time to MDI/Acadia. We came for an entire week to celebrate our 25th anniversary! We loved it and will definitely be back - so much to see! Staying on the quiet side of the island, we did a lot of driving, but we had figured on that when we booked. We like to explore and we prefer quiet with small doses of crowds. It was wonderful to come back to a quiet respite at the end of an exhausting day of activity hiking, biking, kayaking, sightseeing, etc. We appreciated the jetted tub (which we only used once but were glad to have) to ease aching muscles. It was wonderful having a full kitchen and grill, which we used most nights. We packed most of our food from home for the week so we could make full use of the day and then come "home" for a late dinner (we brought snacks-nuts, granola bars, etc which were easy to grab and throw in a pack for the day out, for dinner, pre-packaged salad kits were great!, meats for the grill, and then breakfast foods). The cottage was very clean, the bed was comfy and it was wonderful having sheets and bath towels provided. Richard was a good host- he gave us our privacy but checked in with us, usually in the morning as we were heading out for the day. The gardens are beautiful-we appreciated the fresh-cut flowers awaiting our arrival and the smell of lilacs through the kitchen window.
Things we did: we began at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center where we purchased our park pass for the week, walked along the Ocean Path to see Thunder Hole, Sand Beach, drove the parkloop, biked one of the carriage roads to Jordan Pond, had lunch, walked the trail around the lake-not challenging and very enjoyable, kayaked Eagle Lake, Long Lake and Northeast Harbor. We had planned on spending more time in Bar Harbor on the 4th of July but it was just too hot. We walked around, picked up gifts for the kids, had lunch at Paddy's across from the water and were going to stay for fireworks but decided to watch from the top of Cadillac Mountain (and catch the sunset!). We ate at Two Cats Cafe for breakfast, hit low tide and got to walk out on the "bar" and took a lighthouse boat tour where we also got to see a few puffins and seals! We hiked the flying Mt./St. Saveur Trails. We checked out tide pools by Otter Cliffs. Our last night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Xanthus Restaurant at the historic Claremont Hotel and finished by watching a gorgeous sunset over Pretty Marsh. Thank you, Maryann and Richard!!

Wonderful, private, property on the "quiet side" of the island.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage. Very peaceful and quiet but only a pleasant 35 minute drive from busy Bar Harbor. Nicely decorated and supplied. The owners were helpful and responsive.
Wonderful deck to sit and enjoy the view and the outdoors. Be aware that the steps to the second floor loft and master suite are quite steep. The open loft is a nice sitting area for the adjacent master suite. We had a young couple sleeping on the pull-out love-seat in the loft and they said it was cozy but comfortable. There is plenty to do near the cottage. Some nice hikes (Ship Harbor, Beech Mtn), restaurants (Thurston's Lobster Pound). Southwest Harbor is only 15 minutes away and has a couple grocery stores and other shops which had all of the supplies we needed.

Truly awesome - pictures do not do it justice!!
Wow! I cannot say enough good things about this charming cottage, our stay, our wonderful hosts Richard and Mary Ann or MDI. From the moment we arrived, it was relaxing, comfortable, has great ocean views, and yet is very private. I had visited MDI once before for just over one day and couldn't wait to return. It did not disappoint and it was very hard to leave both the cottage and MDI after a week. I am so glad we chose to stay on the quiet side of the island as we visited Bar Harbor frequently but the drive is beautiful and it was nice to come back to our peaceful and quiet side of the island after being in the crowds. Nature is at it's finest on MDI and there is more to do than one can cram into a vacation. Mary Ann and Richard were staying in their larger house on the property and were attentive to our needs (which were minimal) while being very unobtrusive to our privacy. The gardens around the house are so lovely and well tended as is all the property without disturbing the natural beauty. The cottage could easily accommodate 6 people with the pull out sofa bed in the upstairs loft. It is also perfect for two couples with the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms with baths providing for lots of privacy. We enjoyed the deck and I spent some time working on one of my paintings while enjoying the fresh air, sunshine, and wonderful ocean and nature views. Fall may be my new favorite time to visit Maine and I would most assuredly love to return to this Charming Cottage. The owners also have two other houses on the property that can be rented and they graciously gave us tours of both while we were there in case we wish to return with a larger group. One has 5 bedrooms and the other is a one bedroom cottage that could sleep 4 with a pull out sofa in the main living area. I wholeheartedly recommend these properties if you are planning a stay on MDI. Thank you Mary Ann and Richard for providing a wonderful place to enjoy all that MDI has to offer, for being great hosts. It was just the relaxing vacation I needed.

Perfect in every way.
Wonderful cottage with beautiful gardens, surrounding pines and view. Perfect condition inside with inviting, comfortable interior decor and furnishings. Well stocked kitchen. Bathrooms like new. Nice to have all screens and windows working well. Lots of light. Beds very comfortable with nice linens. Pull out on loft included nice plush pad and was very comfortable. I'm fussy about places being clean and this cottage met all of my expectations. Pictures on web are exactly as we found it. Even found a bouquet of fresh flowers inside upon our arrival. Loved the perennial gardens. Recommend getting there before dark to make it easier to find (was not on our GPS - you will need detailed directions with street names). Convenience stores within a few minutes. Short drive to Southwest Harbor and Seawall. Extremely quiet location. Very private but not too remote. Owners are terrific and available when needed. Stairs are very steep as mentioned on website. Anyone with bad knees may want to stay downstairs. Private beach not as scenic perhaps as others on the island. However, easy place to launch canoes and kayaks. We just walked down there one afternoon. Too many other beautiful places to visit on the island!! We did NOT want to leave - the cottage or the state of Maine! Thanks to the Hales for taking pride in their rental property. We loved every minute of our stay and can't wait to go back.

Beautiful little place.
We stayed here late August 2017. Family of 4: it is perfectly depicted in the pictures. It is the quiet side of Mt Desert which gives you access to Acadia, but you do have to drive. Lovely and peaceful, the gardens are spectacular. The kitchen was good. Southwest Harbor is close, and we went there for the bakery, and for the popovers at the volunteer kitchen. We did our grocery shopping on the way to the island, as there are no big grocery stores near by, but small markets for produce and all. Enjoy!

Delightful cottage
Cove Cottage was a delightful place to stay during our week of hiking, biking, kayaking and swimming in the area of Acadia National Park. The cottage was clean, very nicely appointed and generally quite comfortable for a family of 4 (or 2 couples). The cottage is surrounded by lovely gardens and located in a quiet setting next to a nature preserve. We enjoyed the views of the water from the deck and bedrooms, and loved walking the beach looking for beautiful shells and rocks. The owners live nearby and were very responsive to any of our questions or concerns. They pointed us toward a great breakfast place in Southwest Harbor. We would not hesitate recommending Cove Cottage.

We have rented a lot of vacation houses over the past 20 years, and this was one of the best. Great location, well equipped, and very clean. Mary Ann and Richard were helpful, and we really enjoyed our stay here.
