This place is GROSS and misrepresented. The walls and carpet were stained and dirty. The couch and throw pillows had stains and dog hair all over; after sitting on it once, my pants were full of dog hair. The yard is overgrown with weeds and busted furniture is littered throughout. The blinds in the living room and bedroom are broken and chewed up. There was human hair and crumbs sticking out of the sink drain! The shower was rinsed, at best. The light switches throughout had smudges like someone's wet and dirty hands had been on them. The light covers are full of dead bugs. Speaking of bugs, I killed at least 15 flies during my 20 hour stay, and they just kept coming. The place smelled like old smoker and stale perfume. The appliances were not clean, neither was the counter top; I travel with wet wipes and wiped down the whole kitchen. I wish I could post the pictures I took. The day after I checked in I went to a conference and came back to find the lock not working. The landlord replied that the battery was probably dying and to try again. After 20 minutes I got back in. I finally decided to check out 2 days early. I packed up and notified the landlord and requested a partial refund to which they replied, "You're in the most expensive zip code in CA, no refund." I've used VRBO for 15+ years and have never been catfished like this. If Motel 6 is the 2-star bar, this place is lower than that. Did I mention the doorhandle scotch-taped together on the front door? Don't do it!

I own short term rentals and honestly felt the host could put in a bit more effort for guests. The location is fantastic, and very close to the beach, but listing showed a picture of the ocean from a window and there is no ocean view. Also, there were flies everywhere inside the property, probably 20-30 flies in the kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. This was gross and almost unbearable. I was charged a cleaning fee and told the property was professionally cleaned. This was my biggest problem with the property and I felt it was an insult. The property was dated, which is fine, but a little effort and cleanliness goes a long way. I wish I could upload pictures as proof but the star rating should reflect accurately.

Perfect location for a beach day or two!

Picture is deceiving. Too many throw rugs that were curled up, almost tripped and fell. The screen on the patio door was tore couldn't leave door open due to mascitoes. The patio was over grown couldn't sit out there. Worst of all there was a smell and i had to go buy air freshener to spray. Very disappointed for this area.

Fairly Priced. Great location. Great stay for last minute. Look forward for next visit. Thank you.

Positives: Great safe neighborhood. These are all multi million dollar properties in this neighborhood.
Good size space. Short 15 minute walk (1 mile) to downtown Manhattan Beach. A couple of blocks off the beach. Comfortable accomidations and a great price point.
Parking: There is a designated parking space. This is important in SoCal beach cites since parking is scarce and a premium.
Negatives: The carpet is sad and in dire need of cleaning. The stains and high traffic areas were coveed with runners.
The patio is overgrown with weeds.
Conclusion: We didn't come for the patio or the carpet. The apt is close to restaurants and bodegas all withing a few minutes walk. We would stay here again.

We came in for a concert a SoFi and to spend some time on the beach. It was a great location and felt very safe. $20 Uber to Sofi and lots of great food choices nearby. Def would come back again

I realize I have high standards and this place could be much better.
The place was the right location, communication was good and it was low cost.
It smells like a smoker lived here for years. The parts of the carpet that weren’t covered with rugs were stained (I didn’t bother look under them).
All of the walls need to be painted.
The bathroom is difficult to clean because the tile needs to be replaced.
I understand not having A/C being near the beach but the bed side fan didn’t work.
The patio has a bunch of overgrown weeds.
The recycling bin was a trash can with a torn and crudely taped paper sign indicating it was recycling.
In conclusion, I suppose I got what I paid for.
Thanks for reading

We had an awesome week in Cali. We loved the Manhattan Beach area. Everything is walkable, coffee, food, and beach! The place is old and didn’t feel very clean when we arrived. People peeked into the patio sliding doors and could see because it’s missing a lot of blinds. Not very private. The patio area was extremely overgrown and unkept, therefore we didn’t use it. We would have enjoyed some patio time in the evenings. The unit was warm our entire stay, we didn’t see a thermostat to adjust; but we also didn’t reach out to inquire about cooling it. We had our days jammed packed, so we really only used the place to sleep. Would visit manhattan again, would not stay here again.

Cute little 1 bedroom in a very safe, vibrant area with an easy walk to the beach and restaurants. Could use a little TLC- missing vertical blind slats (for privacy) and back patio is extremely overgrown. Had a great long weekend for a good price.

Looks much nicer in the pictures.
Several blinds were broken, those we were able to fix, we did. The missing one's we had to throw a sheet over for privacy. Major water damage to the "dining room table" no use for it.
Everything is on extension cords. We unplugged the microwave from the extension cord as that is a huge fire hazard.
The neighborhood is beautiful. Price is right and maybe that should have been a clue to the quality of the stay. VRBO is not what it used to be...would not stay again. Just pay for a hotel at least there you know what you're getting.

-The overall smell in the air and feel of knobs and handles was unpleasant. The drawers and cupboards had random clutter at the bottom; things like sponges, golf balls and nails. Bathroom cupboards were half painted, missing some knobs.
-The noise from adjoining units was loud.
-As a Verizon user, I was unable to make or receive a phone call. I tried numerous times, morning and evening.

Cozy place with vintage touches. Checkin was east, host was very communicative. Would stay again

This place is in a great location, got a parking spot, and a very communicative, willing to support owner. With that being said, the reason the rating is middling has to do with the shape of the place. It smelled like pets (dog likely) as soon as we walked in and all through the apartment, luckily neither of us is allergic. The bedroom had multiple missing vertical blinds slats on either ends of the window so we propped broken ones for privacy as the room is in the bottom floor. The bedsheets were too small and ripped in places, did get another set but was still too small. The living room also had multiple missing blinds slats, my girlfriend was tele-working and there were 2 instances where an adult and a child came to the glass backdoor “to take a look”. The window latches in the kitchen and bathroom are broken, again apartment is in the bottom floor and accessible to anyone. There is a patio with a table and chairs but there was trash and weeds are way overgrown and about to take it all over. This place needs some TLC to mirror description and pictures and it would quickly shoot up to 5 stars in my view.

This home was wonderful. Private room, kitchen, and bathroom with a separate entrance from the rest of the house. The neighborhood is awesome and the property is in easy walking distance of amazing restaurants, bakeries, and cafes. Our host was very generous and helpful throughout the stay. Highly recommend for anyone in the Manhattan beach area!

Unfortunately there was only one pro for staying at this place, and that was the location. It’s an amazing neighborhood a short walk to the beach.
The cons list however is a lot longer..
first of all, there is mold growing in the bathroom above the window. It’s no surprise as when we arrived the bath mat was completely soaked and the ventilation in the bathroom is very poor. It says the place is professionally cleaned, however there were hairs on the pillows and it just looked like someone flipped the bed sheets inside out. Not to mention the sheets could be replaced as they were pilling and have holes in the pillows.. there were also plenty of crumbs on the couch which you would think a professional cleaner would’ve seen.
If you were expecting to come to this property to rest, you will be woken up at 6am as you can literally hear the person upstairs talking and walking around. There are also multiple blinds missing in the bedroom, so you have no privacy and plenty of light coming in. Also there’s literally only one out of three lightbulbs in the bedroom lol.
It’s clear from the previous reviews that the owners don’t really care about repairing some of these basic things that would make the stay more comfortable, I wish I listened to the reviews and booked somewhere else. I got a really nasty cold after I stayed here and I’m not really surprised considering

Great location, easy coordination to get in/out. The bed was very comfortable. Not a fancy place., all of the venetian blinds are essentially broken but that was fine because behind the blinds was brink walls. Everything worked fine and it was a perfect place for me to be for a visit with my son who lives in teh area. I would return

The sheets and pillowcases didn’t look laundered the wall in the living room has lots of water damage, the couch has many stains, the top of the fridge was full of dust the carpet is old and dirty the dinette table is water damaged the door knobs in the place are ancient no locks the back patio furniture is old and weather beaten the patio was overgrown with weeds and algae , every blind in the house was missing portions and anyone can see into the bedroom and the living room. I could go on and on.For the money I spent on this place it was not worth staying there it looks like a bad dream from the 60’s would not recommend anyone to stay there

Me and my son stayed here (nice simple house one bed with pull out couch) and walked down to the beach super close nice safe neighborhood lots of friendly people in the neighborhood. Then the next day we went to Universal Studios which was a 30 minute drive. I would highly recommend this place affordable and good location

Could not have asked for a better area. Unfamiliar with Los Angeles, Manhattan Beach ended up being the place to stay. Great local cafes all around. Short walk to the beach. Room was big and comfortable.

First the good stuff: the location is fantastic, just a short walk to the beach, and the owner is friendly and discreet. Unfortunately, the place needs a deep clean and some refurbishment. The apartment smells very strongly of dog, which was unpleasant. The cleaning could have been better. I found a dirty lid that had food from the microwave still stuck to it, sitting on top of the microwave when I arrived. All of the blinds are broken, leaving gaps for light to get in and making real privacy impossible. The furnishings are looking tired and in some cases, broken - as with the blinds that fall apart when touched or the table, which has been broken and repaired. The outdoor area is nice, but neglected and full of weeds. For the price, I expected it to be in better condition.

Ann was very gracious and let us check in early. Bed was comfy. Couch was comfy. Beach and restaurants walking distance. It is very hilly there so be prepared to walk up! We didn’t spend much time there because we were always on the go. Great location! Ann gave us lots of ideas for places to eat.

Property was clean and in a beautiful neighborhood. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the induction cooker. Other than that great place, owner of the property was easy to get ahold of and very pleasant. I would definitely visit again.
Thank you so much for having us.

Cosy and clean apartment with great access to the beach (approx. 300 m). Parking in front of the door. The host is super helpful and communicates quickly via txt, e.g. in case of power outage or towel change. The back yard is not usable for sitting down and relaxing. But everything else is great. Fine food and great restaurants within 20 min walk along the beach. Highly recommendable, would always come back.

Fantastic stay, a little upgrading would have been great, but overall a fantastic stay. Would have liked to have better communication prior to trip but very good in the 24 hr window prior to arrival. Would have like to know that there was NO AC. But wasn’t a problem as there were fans and was plenty cool for me who is always hot. Thanks for such a great stay!!

I'm kicking myself for not reading more reviews. The location was great like everyone else said - just a few blocks from the beach, but the unit itself was far from homey.
The carpet was unbelievably dirty/stained, and I saw crumbs on the ground near the couch. I also arrived after the check-in time to find the owner cleaning the unit herself - it was not professionally cleaned. The kitchen table was in bad, bad shape. And one of the cupboards had a ton of old, half-used food - pretty gross.
Major bummer because with a little love that unit could be a great little getaway.

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary and wanted to head to Cali and enjoy the city and the beach. We selected this place due to the proximity to the beach. It's close to the beach, but beware of the hills coming from the beach. The accommodations are somewhat described accurate. I can say, we had no real plans of being in the room, outside of sleeping and showering. The host was amazing, gracious and communicated very promptly. To sum this one up, hot shower, comfortable bed and gracious host, it's all one could ask for...
