Fonda del Mar is a luxury beach front property in Tamarindo. Fonda is located in a gated enclave of four other luxury homes, walking distance to everything. It is not necessary to rent a car for your stay. You can enjoy watching the boats come and go while on the beach or relax by the pool with coffee in the mornings. Nature is right at your doorstep as the howler monkeys occasionally stop by and you can share your fruit with "Julio," the resident iguana. Fonda del Mar offers two accommodations: The immaculate Guest Suite which is on the second floor with a private entrance and the level entry ground floor Studio apartment. The Guest Suite has a large kitchen and dining area with a table that seats 4. There is a full size refrigerator, cook top with 4 burners and a counter oven. The living area is large and is combined with the sleeping area. There is a king bed and the living room has two comfortable chairs, cocktail table with a flat screen TV in the armoire. Perfect for couples that enjoy cooking in. The Studio apartment has a efficiency kitchen with mini fridge, microwave and cook plate. There is a queen bed and a bistro table for two and a small flatscreen TV. The Studio apartment is perfect for those who want the luxury of being on the beach at an economical price and don't care to cook on their vacation! Both the Suite and the Studio have bathrooms with showers, AC and internet. You can rent both accommodations for two couples or a family with older children. The pool and BBQ area are for the enjoyment of the guest of Fonda del Mar only. If you are looking for a private, romantic stay on the beach in Tamarindo, Fonda del Mar is the place for you! This is a perfect location. It's quiet in the yard with your own private pool and outside eating area, and yet it's walkable to town and all the action at the restaurants/bars. We loved our vacation and this place! Great communication with the property manager Maria. She arranged our transportation to/from the airport. Loved Costa Rica!!! We felt safe and enjoyed our vacation and will definitely return.

Beautiful property, situated on Tamarindo Beach. Easy walk into restaurants and shops. Safe property with monitored alarm system. Property manager did not respond quickly to messages via email but did via phone/text.

If you are looking at this property right now, quick book it! First of all, the location is perfect- just far enough from the hustle and bustle but a short beach walk to all the restaurants. The one bedroom cottage is decorated well, comfortable bed and very clean. Costa Rica is hot but who cares when you have a great pool and palapa to cool down. Property is very secure and you are right on the beach for sunset every night. Thank you Maria and Karen for being so accommodating during our short stay. We hope to return. Mucho Gracias!

This was such an amazing property!! The manager, housekeeper and Gardner were fantastic!! The only thing I would say is perhaps they should charge $5 extra per night to have shampoo, q-tips, robes and coffee. A bit of a miss for guests traveling more than 10 hours to get to one of the best places on earth only to have the chore of finding a market to shop. That’s our only complaint. Would have paid a few dollars extra for that. And the keys- so many keys :). Overall would totally recommend- as long as the owners are not there. Because that would have just been weird. Thanks for an amazing stay in your gorgeous space!!!!

I'd recommend the suite to any couple or single person. It's comfortable, the property is literally 25 feet from the beach, and you can't be closer to town. The suite is behind the main house, and shares a private pool with a great shaded lounger. There's a beach club on one side, and the Ocho resort on the other. There's also a small outside deck which is always shaded, and is perfect for reading or sharing a glass of wine. The kitchen is perfect, and great closet space etc. (The outside deck in the listing is actually part of the main house, and is not accessible to the suite.). Highly recommended-- with thanks.

Exceptional place!
This is the second time my husband and I have stayed at Fonda Del Mar. It is truly a sanctuary with every detail being taken care of. The apartment is spacious and lovely with a fully stocked kitchen. Great bed, beautifully decorated, light and bright. The pool area and proximity to the beach cannot be beat. While within easy walk to restaurants and shopping, it feels removed and peaceful. The owners Linda and Dave and property manager Maria are wonderful and so helpful. Can’t wait to go back!

Hi! I don't often write reviews, but felt I should for this property.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. We loved Tamarindo, the beach, the shells, the nightlife and the restaurants. We TOTALLY recommend The Dragon Fly. We went there 3 of 5 nights. Their food, service, prices, drinks and atmosphere were outstanding. The grounds for the property itself were beautiful. The pool was such a treat and the host brought extra chairs to make sure we were all taken care of. The host also addressed the air conditioning not working promptly. My two significant complaints are that the bed in the rental with the blue bed spread pictured is two twins pushed together which makes cuddling very uncomfortable. The other complaint is the view from the actual unit is not represented in the pictures. The property has the views represented and a renter has access to the full property, but from the actual rented unit one can barely see the beach and the immediate sitting area was nothing to write home about. Overall we liked the property, but think the bed needs to be changed and the listing needs to be more fairly representative of what the renter actually gets.

We absolutely loved the pool area and had the place to ourselves. My brother stayed down the beach at the Coast Hotel and I have no doubt we had the better accommodation. 1. The shower pressure is, well, horrible. It pains me to say as the place is so great, but it was really bad.
2. The upstairs apartment is not oceanfront. It is not advertised as such, but from the pictures you may think it is. There are no real ocean views from the actual apartment. It is more of an "in-law" apartment in the back of the main house (which is ocean front and spectacular).
3. The mattress on the bed is comprised of two single/twin mattresses. Therefore, there is a noticeable crack down the middle where the two mattresses come together.
4. Keys. Maria provides one set of 5 keys and a separate remote (think car fob) for the alarm system at night. There is a key for the apartment, gate to beach, safe, gate to house, and one other. Having only one set of keys can be an issue (note: we never asked for a 2nd set and perhaps she can provide one). So, anytime you leave the property, you need to use at least two different keys to get both out and into the property.
5. Housekeeping. There is a tidying up service provided by Karen Tues, Thurs, and Sat. This was a nice surprise.
Again...save maybe the shower pressure...absolutely none of these nits would prevent me from returning to this wonderful property.

Beautiful
Everything was spectacular, beautiful accommodation, great security, great location. The accommodation was first class. We even had beautiful monogrammed beach towels. The only negative was there was not a gas/propane barbecue or a microwave as we like to cook our own meals. Decently supplied for meals.

Gorgeous Tamarindo villa
Beautiful villa with easy beach access right out the door. Great accommodation with plenty of space and very clean. Lovely housekeeper and gardener, great place to getaway and read, relax, and enjoy Tamarindo. Maria super helpful and responsive, very appreciative of transport assistance/advice.

The perfect place to stay in Tamarindo
In Nov 2018 my wife and I stayed at this property. It was our first time in Costa Rica, and we could not have found a more perfect place to stay and experience Tamarindo! We had the whole property to ourselves and the pool area was so nice to cool down in. The beach access was awesome! The best spot on the beach was right at the end of the beach access path. One of the surfing breaks is right in front of the property. For only a short 3 minute walk away, we had access to all of the beach restaurants! The apartment itself was very nice, comfortable, and clean. We will be staying here again in the future and will be bringing friends and family with us. The only complaint I had is that the accuracy of the online listing does not do it justice. Also, the manager was very friendly and helpful! We can't wait to come back.

Pura Vida perfect
The suite was perfect and as advertised. The kitchen was well equipped, the bed very comfortable and the AC was great for sleeping. The pool was fantastic, including a cabana. We were the only ones there. You are just a few steps away from the beach. Restaurants within walking distance on the beach or in to town. Maria greeted us and there was info in the suite with local suggestions. I would highly recommend Casa Fonda del Mar.

Perfecto
What a fantastic stay at Fonda del Mar. Suite was perfect size and well appointed. The pool area was spectacular, pictures don’t do it justice. The location of the property is ideal with only a 20 yd walk to the beach and 5 mins from town. We feel lucky that the owners share their piece of paradise!

Heaven on Earth!
Fonda del Mar is a hidden gem....beautiful apartment and amazing grounds. We were here for 3 weeks and could not have had a more wonderful time. We have been in Tamarindo many times and love the area. Fonda del Mar had everything and more. The staff is incredible, taking care of every need. We will definitely stay here again!

Fonda del Mar was everything we could hope for!
My wife and I made our first trip to Costa Rica in May 2018. We are very happy to have spent 4 nights in the guest suite at Fonda del Mar. We had the whole property to ourselves, and enjoyed the pool and sitting in the Adirondack chairs during a heavy rain. The rental was exactly as the pictures show it, with great access to the town. We didn't have a car and didn't need one. Walking on the beach was the quickest way to great restaurants and markets. We cooked a couple of meals in the suite, but we had several meals in town. Nogui's is a short walk down the beach, and we had great fish tacos and shrimp kabobs there. We also had really great wood fired pizza at Nari on Calle Central. The sunset catamaran cruise and zip-line excursions were a blast. It was one of the best vacations of our lives. Fonda del Mar, with it's iguanas, really cool squirrels, crabs scurrying around as we walked to the beach, and beautiful accommodations was the perfect place to stay.

Wonderful stay at Fonda del Mar
My husband and I recently spent 10 days at Fonda del Mar. The studio apartment is immaculate - as shown in the photos - and Maria was extremely helpful when we were planning our visit, and during our stay. The beach is literally under a 100 ft from the property, and the pool area is fabulous. We were extremely fortunate that no one else was staying on the compound and were able to have the entire property to ourselves. Lunches at the Beach Club next door were also great. There are 3 grocery stores close by for food and wine and ample good restaurants to walk to. Our sense was that this was one of the nicest properties on the beach!

An Experience of Nirvana South of the Border!
My friend and I decided to go to Costa Rica months ago, and we chose our location based on the photos of this VRBO property. Then we located Tamarindo and made plane reservations! Although a bit backwards, it was an exceptionaly good and well-timed intuitive move on our part. We were super delighted with the accomodations! The apartment itself was charming and most accomodating, and the care of the property in terms of cleaning, gardening, and maintenance was qualitiatively high. Location provided easy access to an expansive and very private beach (a two mintue walk) and this clearly was value added. The town itself (a 10 mintue walk) made getting around quite easy. The owners were most gracious as was the manager of the property. Whenever we were in need of assistance in any way, they were available, informative, and most hospitable. Their experience and input in helping us to naviagate the area, arrange tours, and understand the culture was "extraordinaire!" We could not have asked for better, and this too allowed for greater feelings of relaxation, safety, and enjoyment. As far as the saying "pura vida" goes in Costa Rica, we believe that our vacation was a delicious and well savored taste of "pura vida" in a small slice of Paradise south of the border! We would return in a heartbeat!

Beautiful Property in a Perfect Location!
My husband and I stayed in the Guest Suite on the 2nd floor of Casa Fonda Del Mar for 2 weeks above our friends who took the ground floor Studio. These accommodations are located in a separate building attached to the Main Residence. The property is beautiful and you will find that the description and pictures as shown are accurate.
With the owners away and having rented both accommodations, use of all of the outdoor space surrounding the Main Residence including the pool seemed like our own private oasis.
We did not cook dinners in a lot but when we did the cooktop with 4 burners and small coal fuelled BBQ were sufficient in place of a full size oven and clean up was easy enough without a dishwasher.
The beachfront location is perfect on the outside edge of Tamarindo but close enough to walk to all of the shops, including 2 small grocery stores and multiple restaurants with enough variety to satisfy any palate. Transportation is needed to do a big shop at the Auto Mercado, the large very well stocked grocery store, located at the opposite end of Tamarindo from Casa Fonda Del Mar. But there are golf carts to rent or taxis to hire if you are without a car. This may be a consideration for longer stays as well as access to laundry facilities. There are options for laundry service but use of the washer and dryer on site would be much more convenient.
Maria Cubas the property manager, Karen the housekeeper and Otoniel the gardner were all great from start to finish. It was obvious that each one was committed to doing their best job to maintain the property and make our stay relaxing and comfortable. That's exactly what they did. Everyone was easy to contact and any questions and/or concerns were dealt with very quickly in a professional, efficient and friendly manner to our complete satisfaction.

Truly a home away from home together with a private pool and beach access!
I stayed with my 7 year old daughter at this gorgeous property and we couldn't have loved it more. The guest house was spacious and had everything we needed. The pool was so much fun and the beach access made the whole experience over-the-top. We rented a golf cart for our entire stay and it just felt like our luxurious home away from home! It is a great location with easy access to the restaurants and shops in town yet generally in a quieter area. We are already planning our return trip!

Far exceeded my expectations!
This little guest house was perfect! It's even more adorable than in the photos, clean, and oh so safe and secure. I basically had the estate to myself. The beach is truly just outside the gate - and it's the nicest part of Tamarindo beach - great surf break for beginners. Maria and Karen were helpful and kind although I needed nothing. If I could change anything, I would ask for screens on the windows so that I could have turned off the AC and listened to the waves at night.

Luxury beach front getaway!
WOW! My boyfriend and I traveled to Costa Rica for our first time and Kyle helped set us up in this AMAZING suite. We were absolutely blown away!!!! We had the grounds to ourselves, as there is another suite below, and it was the perfect romantic getaway! It was in a gated community which made us feel extremely safe as there is an alarm system as well, and our place was right on the ocean front of Playa Langosta (which is along the same beach as Tamarindo, walking distance from everything). We enjoyed laying out, drinking our morning coffee and eating breakfast in the beach chairs overlooking the ocean, enjoyed a nice afternoon cool dip in the infinity pool and enjoying a few night time cocktails on the cabana overlooking the water and listening to the ocean waves. They have state of the art security and alarm systems, and it is right on the edge of town less than a 5 minute walk to the center of town and surrounded by the best restaurants and bars right along the beach, which are 2 minutes walking distance away! Kyle was so accommodating and amazing- she truly helped us to plan the trip of a lifetime. The beach is less crowded where we stayed which was PERFECT and the sunrise and sunset walks were amazing. THIS IS A MUST for anyone looking for a romantic getaway, a fun vacation spot with a friend or even for the solo traveler, as it is incredibly safe and close to everything! We will be back soon!!

Wonderful
My husband and I came to Costa Rica for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Fonda del Mar. The property is beautiful. The location perfect. We could walk into town and the tours pick you up at your place so no need to rent a car. We start our day reading and drinking coffee in the cool shade, listening to the wondrous sounds of nature. Walk on the beach and then town for lunch or shopping. Jocelyn was so kind to personally take us to the super market to get a few items we could prepare in the well stocked kitchen. I would definitely come again.

Outstanding location. The beach is foot steps away and easy walking into town on the beach or street.
Our host Jolene and Gary were lovely and welcoming with much helpful information prior to our arrival and during our stay.
Gary recommended an adventure tour with Tamarindo Tours that included: zip lining, horseback riding, river tubing, lunch, mineral baths and mud painting. A must do for those who want to experience the over the top adventure and the friendly local employees. Jolene made all the arrangements seamless arranging the tour and our transportation back to the airport. It turned out we had the same driver, Jorge a real friendly and funny tour guide. 01.18.17. C. Simply perfect!!
Beautifully decorated, very comfortable and spacious studio in a gated community. Very clean and housekeeper was in often and very helpful. Pool was well maintained, as well as the area around it. Steps from the beach and some of the most beautiful sunsets ever. 5 min walk into town and some of the best restaurants. We especially liked the Cabana Blanca for the great food and wonderful people. Brooks and Kyle were very responsive to any inquiries and helpful with our stay. All around wonderful experience and can't wait to go back!!
