Ocean views, path to beach, short walk to lighthouse and town, sleeps 12
About this house rental
Nestled in Chatham, this charming house for R 13,059 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. This listing combines a large house having a deck with a beautiful view of the ocean and an adjacent cottage allowing for peace and quiet. Perfect for an extended family, or for family and friends where some privacy (or social distancing) is desired. Great for working at home, or long walks on the beach. Watch the ocean from the main house deck. or from the couch in the living room, or up in the second floor bedroom, as the boats go through the cut between the beach and the outer barrier sandbar. A quick walk down the path to the beach, and choose between Lighthouse beach on the left or right towards Monomoy (shells always, see seals swimming often). There are several beach chairs provided. The main house has 3 floors, cable (2 TVs, Comcast wifi), great mini-split AC, a large kitchen, and a gas grill on the deck. It sleeps 8 - with up to 4 kids in 2 bunkbeds in one large kid-friendly room, or up to 6 adults in queen beds in 3 comfortable rooms, with a tub or shower on each floor). It is a pleasant walk up to Chatham light or on to the town center. The cottage sleeps 4, with a queen bed in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the livingroom. The cottage kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, dishwasher and microwave. The cottage has its own Comcast wifi/cable, with a smart TV. The bathroom has a tub/shower. Summer breezes often provide effective cooling, with window air conditioners also available. Like many Cape Summer rentals, linens (sheets, towels, pillowcases) are not provided. There are a number of firms that deliver and pickup linens in Chatham, and we'd be happy to provide a partial list. Every year we get questions about our no pets policy. Between May 1st and September 15th dogs aren't allowed on Chatham beaches, except one, and that one is a bit of a drive. And a pet left inside a strange house while its owners are at the beach may decide to take revenge, and that's not something that I or my cleaning team have time to wrestle with during the transition between guests. We want to mention a minor parking inconvenience, so as to avoid surprises. Around Labor Day 2023 a fence was erected blocking our cottage parking. All of our renters last Summer were successfully able to make use of our main house parking (including the front lawn in some cases), and we are working to have our cottage parking restored.

Our family rendezvoused with friends from the UK for Thanksgiving in Chatham. The waterfront property was cozy against the November chill, yet spacious enough for everyone to gather around the table--and spread out to do their own things.
The kitchen was well-appointed enough to cook Thanksgiving dinner, and the coastal view from the dining room truly something to be thankful for.
Russ was a responsive host and a committed caregiver to this family home. This was our second trip, and hopefully not our last.

We completely enjoyed our stay. The layout of the home allows for a mixture of together time & quiet relaxation. It was larger than the pictures portray.
The main level of the home was perfect for my 80+ mom with a hall bathroom next to her room.
The cottage doesn’t have a futon in the living room, but a queen sized very comfortable sleeper sofa. A bonus.
We hope to return.

The best part of this place is the location and proximity to the beach and the town of Chatham. On arrival, we were greeted by 10 putrid cans of the previous guest’s garbage plus their recycling. The house is eclectic New England with low ceilings, doors and windows that don’t close or open, uneven flooring, old college/grandmother’s house-style furniture, unstable finicky Wi-Fi, and infestation of ants. The downstairs shower leaks onto the floor. There is no parking for the second house (Barnacle), no air conditioning in the bedroom, and no easy access to its front door. The pathway down to the beach has plenty of poison ivy and ticks, so be on the lookout. We spent considerable time over our week’s stay repairing sticky doors, rebooting the router, cleaning garbage cans, and negotiating very tight parking – space for two small cars only. For the luxury rate cost of this VBRO rental, the value was quite a disappointment.

A typical Cape Cod cottage with a idyllic view located in the fabulous "upscale" town of Chatham was the perfect local for our extended family of 14 to gather and celebrate an 80th birthday! Sleeping quarters met our needs; one family with older boys used the cottage -Barnical, the 4 girls slept in bunk room with one set of parents in bedroom,The grandparents had the view upper level. Wish the deck had another table so we could all eat outside together. It is a 7 minute walk to a lovely beach -a beach cart helps with the load, but its worth it. Low tide is best and you can walk down beach to sand bars. we even had a double kayak, which was fun for all. Saw several seals each day. There is a current so its not a deepwater swimming spot, but you can cool off and lots for curious kids from sand castles, catching small crabs and shelling. Its a beautiful walk to town, and Chatham Fish Market & Pier a short drive down Shore Rd -a must for fresh seafood and watching fishing boats off load. Only thing really missing is an outdoor shower. All in all, a perfect location and a well stocked, cottage for all ages. We loved it!

A comfortable house and lots of room for the ten of us. One small issue was WiFi but it all worked out.

Spectacular location and house with all the bells and whistles. New grill and finished basement. The house effortless incorporates the stunning setting. The beauty of the ecosystem is obvious even while indoors. We most enjoyed our short morning walks to a point that is the commissure of the mouth of Chatham harbor.

We highly recommend this property for a family vacation. Plenty of bunk beds for kids and big play area. Beautiful Lawn and deck and easy access to the beach via sandy walk. Center of town is just a walk away as well. The kitchen was well stocked and the fridge large. Thank you!

Our large family of adult children loved the proximity to town & the beach-both walkable. The home had plenty of comfortable space to sleep & hang out, including a large deck overlooking the beach. Kitchen & furnishings were outdated but well equipped. Our family will treasure the memories made in this comfortable home!

All around wonderful
My husband and I stayed with 4 children (ages 5-13) as well as my in-laws, and there was still extra room. The house lived up to my expectations, and more. I loved that there were things like paper towels , toilet paper, soap all stocked. It felt very homey, but not at all cluttered. Only thing that would have made it perfect was an outdoor shower.

Family gathering.
Nice place. Great location with access to the beach and close to downtown shops and dining. Kitchen is well stocked with any gadget you might need. Beds were comfortable and master suite is quite special with a really nice view. The deck was a great gathering spot.

We stayed at Russell’s home for a week. Spectacular location; easy stroll to a very quiet, pristine bay beach and easy stroll into town. The house, as described, is a quirky mix of old and newer. Bedroom upstairs is lovely and roomy. Kitchen had all we needed to cook up big family meals, and the deck is wonderful - our main living area day and evenings. Note there are indeed some low ceilings. My 6’3” tall husband got a few good bonks and did a lot of ducking. It was a great house for a family reunion - plenty of room for all to spreads out. Russell was very responsive to some issues we discovered on check-in. He made it right the next day.

Great vacation spot
We stayed at this spot for our first extended stay in Chatham. There were 6 of us staying for the week, with a few kids stopping in for a day or two. The house uses every room efficiently, with the bunks in the lower level providing lots of bed space for the kids. The upper bedroom is fantastic. And the location is so great: a short walk through the beach grass to the beach; a really quick drive or short bike ride downtown or to the nature reserve; the lighthouse just a few hundred yards away. We were all thrilled with the house and the location and would stay again in a heartbeat!

Quintessential Cape Cod house and location
Our family has been renting in Chatham for many years and this was just a perfect location! We hardly used the car during the day, as you could walk down a beautiful path to lighthouse beach and enjoy the view from your deck when at home. The house itself is classic, old Cape Cod but with all the amenities you need. The kitchen is large and bright, good TV sitting room and dining area. The master bedroom is a fantastic space with a wonderful view. The basement twin bunkbeds were a bit small for our college age kids but the room is large and could accommodate air mattresses if needed.
We would definitely come again to this property!

Fabulous location
The location for this home is wonderful. There is a beautiful view from the deck and a nice walk to the beach on a gorgeous path. The master bedroom is large and also has a great view. Dining room and living room are small and the basement bedroom is a bit dark and a little musty. The open room with bunks is really only for children.
Russ, the owner is very responsive and overall we had a great stay. We had 4 adults and one baby. With more, it would be crowded.

Wonderful beach house with stunning views
This property checked all boxes, comfortable space for ten people, a fully equipped kitchen and gas grill on the deck, a view of the ocean and walking distance to beach and town. Also an added bonus, a wildlife refuge with a trail nearby (again walking distance). We really enjoyed our stay and have created wonderful family memories.

Great view and proximity to the beach and Main Street
We enjoyed our stay. The property was well equipped with all the essentials! Kitchen had everything we needed and the beach gear was perfect. It was on a very private drive and the neighborhood was lovely! The deck was a great size to gather in the mornings and evenings to talk about the day. Having cable was key for us as we have small kids who love watching cartoons in down time. Just a couple suggestions for improvement: put a screen on the dining room door to help with the heat. We played games in there at night and it got hot. The lower level shower leaked into the floor and was hard to keep dry and slipping was a concern with the kids. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the house as a family

Perfect location, very clean, excellent communication with the owner. This home offers virtually everything... from beach chairs to band-aids it is fully equiped. Aside from bringing your own linens and towels, this rental offers everything you would expert to find in your own home. We hope to stay again in the future!

Beautiful property, great location
We had two couples and four adults staying in this terrific house in the perfect location, walk through the grass right to Lighthouse beach. We enjoyed waking up to an incredible sunrise over the sea-- and it was beautiful in the fog, too. Kitchen was remarkable well stocked, including food processor, blender, mixer, lobster pot, and more. The kids' room was well stocked with books and puzzles and games, too. I would just say to be aware that the adult bedrooms consist of one beautiful master on the second floor, one lovely room on the ground floor next to the kitchen, and then the third is on the lower level, next to the kids' room. Maybe appropriate for teenagers or an au pair or something but not ideal if you are planning to have 3 couples.

Perfect for Thanksgiving family getaway
Spacious and comfortable, this house was perfect for our family Thanksgiving with college-age kids-- room for people to do their own thing and to gather together for meals, cards, and to watch the game as well.
The scenic location just off Lighthouse Beach offers amazing views in all kinds of weather, and a quick walk across the dune paths to the beach itself.
The house has been updated in many ways (windows, decks, bathrooms, flooring, lighting, kitchen, etc), but the low-ish door jambs in the original part of the house made for comic relief as we called "Duck," to our tall boys throughout turkey-day!
We loved our trip.

Beautiful Home with amazing views and easy beach access!
One if the best homes we have ever stayed at on the Cape! It fit all 8 of us adults very comfortably. The views from the awesome deck were fantastic! And the view out of the master bedroom window, incredible! We all loved the easy access to Lighthouse beach and the easy walk into the Village of Chatham! The bedrooms and the beds were all very comfortable. The kitchen was very easy to get around in and the pots and pans and dishes were abundant and in good shape! I cook a lot and the knife selection was better than my collection at home and very sharp! The grill on the deck hooks directly to the house gas supply so there is no worries about having to refill tanks! We had a huge thunderstorm roll through late one night and we lost power but, the built in generator started right up automatically and we never skipped a beat! Multiple HVAC split duct units provided different levels of cooling so everyone was comfortable. I had a couple of questions for the owner when we were there and he responded very quickly via email! This is a beautiful home that the owner is always making improvements on! We had a great vacation, and would love to go back to this location again! I highly recommend it to anyone!

Great Amenities, Location, and View!
This is one of the best homes we've stayed in in Chatham—and I think that's saying something, as our family has been coming to the Cape every summer for decades and we have stayed in many different houses.
We enjoyed the quick, easy walk up the road to pristine Lighthouse Beach (the path behind the house is a bit trickier for anyone who has trouble walking, as it's mostly on the sand and takes a bit more time to traverse), as well as the fact that downtown Chatham is within walking distance too (about a 15 minute walk). The view of the ocean in the distance is most striking from the enormous master bedroom upstairs, but you can also enjoy it from the deck and living room. The mattresses were comfortable, the kitchen was well-stocked with cooking and dining necessities, the wifi was strong throughout the home, and there was enough room for all 7 of us to spread out. On this side of Chatham, it's just a quick jaunt north to Orleans (on a beautiful, scenic route) and a couple of our favorite restaurants, Mahoney's and Cooke's. It is, however, a bit of a drive to a Stop and Shop (the closest grocery store, the Chatham Village Market, we thought was relatively overpriced).
A strong wind lifted the umbrella straight out of the deck table at one point, so we were hesitant to use it afterward and as a result did not, unfortunately, spend as much time on the deck as we would have liked (the sun shines pretty strongly on the deck in the morning/afternoon so without the umbrella it would be pretty bright!). It also took us a while to figure out how to hook up the gas line to the grill, but we managed in the end. These small snags did not at all diminish from our enjoyment of the house and of our trip. Russ was prompt in his responses and the property was clean and well-maintained. We will definitely try to stay here again in the future and would recommend it to anyone who has a larger group, plans on cooking, and is looking for a prime Chatham location and view!
