James and Brenda are awesome hosts and photographers 😊

Brenda and James were amazing hosts!
A tour of deer cave with Brenda is a must. Facilities are basic as described in booking but not lacking in comfort.
Stella cafe is close and has great food, we ate there many times.
25min walk from national park but James was always available for a transfer as it was sometimes too hot during the day to walk.
Both James and Brenda are full of knowledge from the local area and are easy to have a chat with.

Such a great experience staying at Mulu Village. Brenda and James are great hosts, they have a deep connection and much knowledge about the National Park.
Expect an authentic experience, you don’t always have the same luxuries as at home. But it’s definitely a great place to stay in the jungle.

Hosts are friendly and willing to share so much about Mulu's history and their stories. You must join a tour with James and Brenda, they can show you lots of secret spots in the area. The accommodation is just perfect for someone seeks adventure away from city.
Everything are excellent. Just one little notice, electricity only provide between 6pm-12am, but that’s government issue. Nothing they can do about it.

Daniel the owner goes out of his way to help. He picked us up at the airport and brought us back and forth to the National Park. Good place for meeting backpacking tourists. Stella's restaurant nearby serves great breakfasts and suppers.
Fan only works from 6pm to midnight.

Highly recommend this really beautiful spot close to the park. The facilities are perfectly comfortable and James is extremely helpful. We found it to be good value and the limited electricity wasn't a bother at all as you're not there during the day anyway. We also left something in the room and James very kindly brought it to the airport for us.
James is extremely helpful and available to drive you to the park and pick you up (a 30 min walk otherwise) but it wasn't super clear to us that each drive was 5 ringgit per person. Not a huge deal but just would have been good to have that clearly stated so I'm writing it here so future guests are aware.

The accomodation is right next to the river and the marriott hotel. The location is around 30 minutes walk away from the park entrance. We were the only guests with another person, so we could enjoy the quiet nights. Electricity is available from 6 to 12 pm, for us it was okay because we spent the whole day in the park. The shower was cold, but after a hot day very refreshing. James the host was around the house mostly and helped us when ever he could. For transportation to the park James offers a service for 5 RM per person per drive, so it was easy to get to there. I would recommend to stay at Mulu Village to support the locals and to get in contact with James and Brenda :)

I strongly recommend anyone visiting Mulu to stay at this charming guesthouse. The owners, James and Brenda, are extremely kind and helpful, and they make you feel very welcome <3 Brenda gave me a lot of insider tips for activities outside the national park, which were definitely a highlight because many tourists don't get to experience them. James drove me to the park, airport, and other locations as needed. They were both constantly cheerful and eager to share stories. Also, a big thank you to James for removing the cicada from my room at night when I was too terrified to do it myself <3
Breakfast is available at the homestay for an extra charge (toast, tea, coffee, hot chocolate). There is also a café right opposite of the guesthouse and a small mini mart in walking distance. I also had a lot of my lunches and dinners at the Mulu café in the national park :)
I loved it here, so i don't really have much to complain about. Keep in mind that you are very close to nature in Mulu, so there will be cicadas and other insects around, which you can hear at night. They don't usually get into the room, although it can happen if you leave the door open and light on :)

Cheap :)
A bit far from Nationalpark, Some ants. Crawling around

Both Brenda and James were fantastic hosts and felt like family right away. Mulu Village is deeply embedded in the history of the National Park, as it is in the exact location the original base camp for the RGS expedition. Made reading the works of Robin Hanbury-Tenison (leader of the expedition) so much more interesting. Brenda was kind enough to look after my extra luggage free of charge when I went on the Pinnacles trek as well! Towels are available to rent and laundry services are available. Service was much better at Mulu Village than in the park grounds which made planning onward travel much easier, and the cafe nearby was a great choice for well-priced food.
Being slightly further away from the park may be an issue for some, but the cheap transfers (5MR) and James’ conversation on the journeys more than made up for it. I walked back a number of times and took around 30 minutes, a great way of seeing the variety of modern longhouses that host the locals

James is the perfect host, always smiling and ready to help!! He was full of advice and really loved sharing all his knowledge on Mulu :)

Staying at Mulu Village was one of the best parts about our trip to Mulu National Park. James was probably the best host I've ever had the pleasure of staying with and he will make sure you have an amazing time and see everything you can while you're there. The location is super close to the mini market (which he will also happily drive you to, like he also drops you at the park each day) and is right next to a yummy restaurant. From the moment we arrived, James was a trove of useful information and we loved learning about the local culture, wildlife etc from someone truly enthusiastic about where he comes from. We also met some lovely travelers while we were staying there. We can't wait to come back again!

Very beautiful lodge, it is in the jungle near the river. Some boat excursion start from the river in front of the village. The owners are very kind and useful.
The lodge is 2 km away from the park, you can walk or ask for a ride, but the main problem is that there is no restaurant except for the one of the park, there is only one closer but it was closed.

James was very nice and relaxed, very helpful. Drove us to the park and airport and back whenever we needed to be driven.
Room was very basic as expected, bathroom was clean as long as we used it alone. Wasn't cleaned during the 3 days we spent, but as there's only 2 rooms sharing 1 bathroom that's okay, I guess.
Our room had some holes in the floor so that insects could enter. We used mosquito coils and one night when there were millions of flies around James gave us some insect spray.
The restaurant on the other side of the road is okay, always open for breakfast and dinner.
Very good value for the money.
Think it would've been nice if James told us in advance that he charges 5RM per person per drive. Only comminicated this about airport transfer. Doesn't sound much but it was 15 Euros in the end for the 2 of us for 3 days which feels a bit much.
You probably have to pay extra if you want a blanket or a towel

We stayed at Mulu Village for three days. The accommodation is exceptional value for money, friendly host James is happy to help organise trips and give you lifts to the park gate for a nominal fee
- nothing was ever too much trouble! Our cave tours with guide Larry were amazing. Accommodation is basic but fine - electricity between 6pm and 12am ish only. The shower isn't hot but was powerful and refreshing after long sweaty days in the park.
Not a 'dislike', just something to be aware of: this is stripped back, room only accommodation with no kitchen. Packed breakfasts and lunches can be booked in advance, and towels hired (we had our own so this wasn't an issue).

Great location, exactly as advertised. Not very comfortable given no a/c and electricity only from 6 pm to midnight, but that was all expected, so no complaints. The amazing feature is the fabulous service provided by James - he drove us to and from the airport and to and from the park entrance every day - and sometimes more than once per day, all for a nominal charge. He also took us straight from the airport to the park on our arrival in Mulu to make sure we were signed up for park admission and all the guided tours we wanted before they sold out.
No a/c and limited hours for electricity but expected, as noted above.

Brenda and James were such lovely and welcoming hosts. They gave us advice and told us stories all about the national park. We really felt at home at their guesthouse. The facilities are basic, as described, but if you are happy to accept them for a cheap stay in such an amazing place you will love the experience.
Nothing!

The hosts Brenda and James were amazing and very helpful. They helped us with transport to and from the national park every day as it is a little far to walk. They helped us organise our activities and we’re just lovely people.

FRIENDLY HELPFUL HOSTS WHO TOOK US TO SEE MOST INTERESTING HISTORICAL PLACES UPRIVER; COMFORTABLE ROOM; ADVICE GIVEN FOR WHAT TO VISIT/ DIFFERENT WAYS OF TOURING PARK.
Due to covid and a lack of tourists, food joints limited in the area. All food thus taken in house (thank you for this additional service) or at Mulu Park. More expensive and upmarket is at Marriott.

We had a great stay here! Brenda and James were very helpful and friendly. They are also can organise a trip for us, we went to Deer Cave as Brenda is Park guide,Long Langsat, Long Iman Penan settlement and boat cruising to the main river and small stream for a great swim in Mulu National Park. We loved it very much!
We cooked our meal at the float jetty, had a nice lunch by the river.. and of course a hot tea for supper at night after the rain.
We cant wait to come again for Mulu summit trip!
