Amazing views and lovely staff room was clean and very nice
Price of food was a little bit on the high side but after eating the food it was definitely well worth it

Good location and beautiful groundsQ
We upgraded to a suite, unfortunately the rooms were not very comfortable. The sofa and chairs were quite low, making it uncomfortable on backs, knees, and hips.
The check-in clerk walked us to our room, but they offered no bell service. She did roll one of our small carry-on pieces of luggage to the third floor, but left all the luggage for my mid 70 year old husband to carry upstairs to our fourth floor room. (I recently had back surgery and struggled with the stairs,). The elevator only goes to the third floor. To get to our upgraded fourth floor room required narrow stairs.
The upgraded room, a suite had two bathrooms, each with a small pedestal sink. The only surface area to store toiletries was a small shelf approximately 4“ x 12“. I chose the upgrade for the “spa“. The definition of spa is clearly different in Scotland. The “spa” was a narrow one person bathtub with jets.

We had a lovely room overlooking the extensive gardens. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. The buffet breakfast had a wide choice of continental or cooked. The Gluten-free choice was a bonus.
A small fridge in the room would have been helpful

The palace was so very lovely!
The rooms (3) were all very hot. The only option was to open the window which did not help much.

wanted breakfast but far too expensive
cost of breakfast and also cost of bottle of water at £3.50

Location was great. Stunning building. Enjoyed the spa treatment and museum.
Attention to detail in the cleanliness of the bedroom carpet in our arrival.
Limited vegetarian choices on menu.
Would love to have had a better view from the bedroom.
We weren’t able to get a seat in the bar after dinner, so went back to our room. We could have sat at any of the seating areas, but those next to the fires were occupied. First come, first served.
There was a bit of noise from people in the room above stomping about until about 12.30, but didn’t last too long.

Lovely location.
The window in my room was screwed shut so I could not open it at all and the room was really hot at all times - please note the radiator was off. I found two men’s t shirts in one of the drawers when I first got into my room when unpacking. This suggests to me that the room was not really clean.
It’s shocking that absolute basics like a ‘clean room’ with fresh air were not provided considering the extortionate prices for rooms, and this was a single room.
In hindsight I should have asked to change rooms, but I was aware the hotel was pretty much booked up due to a wedding.

Amazing old place & views
Nothing really!

Location and friendly staff
Spa was shut but we did not know that in advance , it could have been cleaner, food was expensive but average and £22 supplement charge for having a steak seems too much.

Beautiful location and grounds
Really squeaky floors in room

Room was pretty
Rooms way to hot in summer - My window would not stay opened staff place the bin from the room to keep it opened no fans or air-conditioning
Food was average breakfast and dinner
Spa area closed and we were not advised about this at the time of booking
Most staff were uninterested in being there unfriendly and cold

The property is in a lovely location, the view from our room was beautiful.
The hotel seems quite dated and could definitely make some updates to rooms, such as the bathroom facilities

It was nice we had a good time staying here as a family
Lots of people around and the staff were lovely
The water pressure in the showers weren’t the best and the water was a little brown in colour

Hotel was dated and tired. Food was average

The building is obviously very beautiful and really that’s what you are paying for as the room was one of the smallest we have stayed in and rather quite basic. The room was clean and comfortable and all we needed for a 1 night stay. The breakfast was excellent with a fantastic choice. It was a lovely walk to the town centre where there were lovely bars and restaurants.
Although very beautiful the room didn’t warrant the price we had paid none the less we had a wonderful stay.

Restaurant was very good. Entertainment in bar on Saturday night was very good.
Creaky floorboards on floor above. Heard people above walking around after midnight.

Very attentive staff, comfortable beds, traditional feel to interior of hotel. Good atmosphere in the bar at night.
Lack of sockets next to bedside table. Signage to spa a bit confusing. Vegetarian meal options limited.

The room was smaller than we thought but was clean and well appointed. The breakfast was standard buffet style but dinner was very disappointing as some of the dishes were poor.
The bar was excellent and the staff were attentive and good fun
Apart from the staff in the bar and in reception the staff in the resteraunt were uncommunicative and showed no interest in the guests. they did the minimum to serve.

Food for dinner and breakfast are good. The facilities in the spa
are good. Parking and views are good. Seating in the common areas is good. Location is good. Putting green and snooker table not used but looked good. Request to change room was handled very well.ĥ
Atmosphere in the bars and restaurant could be much better. Whilst the restaurant service is efficient the atmosphere is poor despite some of the staff trying., it does n't really work. The additional pricing for main meal options are far to expensive. Self service in the bar would be better if it was table service.. Our friends asked to be moved due to dirty windows and all the bird droppings outside or the window.

NOTHING ALL WAS NICE .

Loved the grounds, the location was fabulous and the set up of the hotel was beautiful to visit. The bar was pleasant, and the various reading and relaxing areas were good.
Bed was way too soft, pillows hard. We tried to book the restaurant before arrival but the instructions were to book at reception. Then when we arrived to book at reception, we were advised there was no room at the restaurant. For the price of the rooms we would have preferred more comfortable beds and pillows.
2.0
Nice staff and location.
Basic requirement of a hotel is to sleep in a clean, dry, comfy and quiet room. Hence not above the kitchen aircon units.
Like sleeping next to an engine room. Added to the room being too warm and can't open windows due to noise, choice of boiling or deafening. Offered two other rooms; one a hotter room in an area of ongoing renovations, other in the dungeons looking at a wall. I was assured aircon went off at 10pm. It did, then started again at 3:30AM !
Booked stay and planned a whole year for the Etape bike ride and ruined by no sleep.
Restaurant manager also rude when asked to delay seating time. This due to stress of low staff and arriving coach load. Never get a room overlooking the kitchens and wedding venue building.
