When planning your vacation, if you private message us, we can help you find the resources you need to make the most of your time at the “Top of the Mitten.” The area of Lower Pennisula Michigan generally considered North of Grayling. A guidebook and reference material is also located in the home, helping you discover many of the local amenities. Onsite amenities include; Local Coffee, basic spices, all towels, limited snacks, bottled water (refillable water bottles in the fridge to take places), as well as contact information for local points of interest. We want you to make the most of your opportunity to enjoy the Inland Waterway System and surrounding areas. The Inland Waterway was one of the main transportation routes for the Indigenous cultures of Northern Michigan. It became a primary route for the early logging industry before the iron rails came north from Detroit and Chicago. "Booms" of logs were floated from Crooked Lake through the Indian River to Cheboygan. According to the “Pageant of Tuscarora” (available onsite to read), the logs would be so thick the lumber workers responsible for moving them known as “River Rats” could walk the entire river. The roaring '20s formed the apex of the first tourism boom for the Inland waterways. The end of the victorian age until the 1930s saw single and double-decker steamers like the "Oden" and the "Topinabee" touring high society from many of the Cosmopolitan Cities in the Midwest. The area was filled with many posh resorts including the Pinehurst Inn(now a true dive bar) hosting America's high society and politicians. The Pinehurst’s old guestbooks have names of Senators and Representatives of the day who lodged here during their tours. Today, you have a better chance of running into “Alvis” instead of a US Senator at the Pinehurst. Even so, the Indian River and Inland Lakes chain offers some of the most amazing recreational watersports experiences in the world. Bring your own toys, or talk to the marinas about renting during your stay. If boating isn’t in your itinerary, the area offers many other choices. The "Top of the Mitten" offers a taste of everything the great State of Michigan has to offer. 4 seasons outside recreation activities: Hiking, Biking, Motorized Trail Riding, fishing, hunting, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, Snowmobiling, alpine and nordic skiing. Also close proximity to two Great Lakes, Petoskey, Mackinac Straights area, and many points of interest. Great food and local shops, or just unplug and relax. The Indian River or "Exit 310" is one of the greatest destinations to enjoy your UpNorthVacation.

We thought our annual trip was not going to happen due to the snow taking its time to show up, so reservations were very last minute. Before booking we had some questions and the owners were quick to answer. Very nice property with a great location to the trails. Thank you to Christel for being so nice and super helpful. We had a great time and would definitely book this property again.

Overall the house was clean, except for the spiderwebs and dust webs in corners. There were plenty of towels and they even had choices of bathroom supplies examples: shampoo&conditioners soap, etc. In the advertisement for the house it stated that there was air conditioning. This was not central air but units in each room(not window units) that had been put away before we arrived. We were told to open windows if we needed to cool it down inside the house. My family is one that likes it to be cold when we sleep so we had the windows open and fans going at night. This wouldn't have been bad except that there was a sewer smell that came in through the windows. I did not report this issue because I felt by the time we realized this was an issue there wouldn't have been any time for them to fix it(we only stayed 3 nights.) And I am not sure what they could have done to fix it since they had already taken out the air conditioning units.
