Such a relaxing stay. Management was very responsive! I’d definitely book with Surf and Sound Realty again.

The property is right on the dunes out to the beach with amazing views of the ocean. The main living area is very comfortable with two sofas and a large dining table. Excellent cable television with many channels which we enjoyed watching movies on the one rainy day.
The kitchen is large and very well equipped.
We were especially pleased with the wrap around deck where we retreated when the winds were too high on the beach.
The beach itself is wide and gorgeous. The surf was too rough for swimming but we enjoyed walking with our feet in the water.
I do have to mention a couple of not optimal items, but nothing which would keep us from staying again, just information for choosing the property. There are many stairs if one is impaired in climbing. Also, although on the beach front, it is also a long walk to the beach, threw the hilly dunes.
There were a few items which weren’t working or were an issue, but property management addressed them immediately.
It is an older house with the charms of such, which we love, but someone looking for bright new and shiny; it would not be for them.
Looking forward to next year’s visit there.

Our family stayed for a week with our 3 kids and 2 small dog. Loved the home and location to the beach. Amazing sunrises and we hope to visit again!

I was overall happy with our stay. They’re were a few things that could have been fixed like the front door that was broken in two places with sharp edges (management was called but never came out to fix it) not a huge deal, I just didn’t want anyone to get hurt. The mattresses were super noisy and would wake me up everytime I rolled over - but thankfully the sound of the ocean out my bedroom window made up for that. The view from the deck was amazing especially watching the sunrise. The kids loved being able to walk back and forth to the beach whenever they wanted and the house was fully stocked with family friendly games. We enjoyed our stay!

Everything was lovely except the expensive steaks we bought to grill were subsequently pan fried as all three grills were unusable.
Master bed mattress left much to be desired. Woke up sore every morning. Thankfully the view made up for it all. November was perfectly quiet!

Very nice house, right on beach.

The weather wasn't the best so we didn't spend as much time on the beach.
The house itself could use some work. All the screen doors are torn up so you can't leave a door open.
The dishwasher wasn't installed properly so it would tip forward when opening the door. They did come fix that after I emailed them pics but never responded to the email to let us know someone is coming.
The carpet has several stains but since we had dogs with us we weren't too worried about it.
There are thorns from a cactus in the yard that two of the dogs got stuck in their paws. The walk to the beach from the property is not the easiest, definitely not for elderly folks.

We had a great time. Loved being on the beach in great weather and even had fun when hurricane Ian blew through at end of trip!

Cactus Lane
Location was too close to public beach access and the condition of the house was disappointing...kitchen cabinets falling apart, no hangers in the closets, bathroom finishes rough, deck furniture had splinters, tight living room, less than well stocked kitchen

Great location near all of the amenities
We greatly enjoyed our stay at this condo. The layout is great with ample spacing between the bedrooms and enough space in the living and dining areas for multiple people. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the beach and golf carts can be rented through the community. We will definitely look to stay here in the future

Quaint octagon house, close to the beach. Our family enjoyed our time together even if the weather was windy and cold the week we were there.

We had a great vacation at Cactus Lane II. Beautiful weather all week at the end of September. We enjoyed the home, however, were shocked that the description nor any of the reviews mentioned that the community beach access runs up the driveway and through the side yard of the home. It was very disruptive to be out grilling dinner or just being outside on the patio and have random people walking by within 10 feet of us. The listing on VRBO specified Private in the title of the home, this feature was anything but private. When we arrived, the home had not be cleaned, the PM did compensate us for this issue, but it was still disheartening to have to spend hours cleaning the home.
Despite these issues, we still enjoyed the home and the views are beautiful.

My husband and I prefer quite, non touristy places and avoid crowds. Social distancing is second nature to us.
This area is perfect! The house was great and the layout was just right. We loved the ship’s watch and sat up there watching the rain while drinking our morning coffee. Keep an eye out for the deer on the dunes. They can be hard to spot. The kitchen had ample storage and was larger than homes we’ve lived in. The cabinets might be a little wonky, but honestly I wouldn’t have noticed it if it hadn’t been pointed out in previous reviews. Oh, and the dryer worked fine for us.
Yes, the coffee maker was missing a filter basket, but just use 2 filters and it works fine.
Overall, it’s a great house and we would definitely stay here again!

Happy and good value
Place was as advertised, beautiful location, short walk through the dunes to fantastic beach. Overall we were very happy. If we were going to nitpick, the cabinets in the kitchen are rickety and the porch needs some nails hammered. No oven mitts and the charcoal grill could use some love or just be replaced. Still would give this a 4.5 stars out of 5.

We had a wonderful week.
House was great...except the dryer, needed to run twice to get items dry.
And house cleaning crew showed up at 730am day of check out?? That was a bit disconcerting.
But that said would rent this house again.

Fine house, bad weather
The house is nice, cabinets in kitchen and bathroom really need an update. Other than that, house is great. Perfect location. Unfortunately the week we stayed there was some really bad storms and Route 12 was closed and there was a lot of flooding. We couldn't even use the outdoor shower, it was flooded around there. But, that is not the house's fault :)

A little further from the beach than in the pictures, but well worth it. Loved the upper indoor deck. The negatives are petty, but will list them anyway in order of importance: dryer needs replacing (4 hrs to dry a load), the Maytag oven is very confusing to use and the bottom oven was not working, some electrical outlets were not functional and there is an open outlet cover in the floor which would be dangerous to a small child. Again, we would rent this again, but thought you should know about these issues.

Beautiful location and quaint octagonal layout
The beauty of this house is its location in front of the dunes and the ocean in one of the quietest villages in the Outer Banks, which is perfect for families with young children or people who are not interested in night life or a lot of entertainment. The second floor open layout with the kitchen, living, dining room and a loft area allows the guests to enjoy beautiful vistas all day long. The house is inundated by light and you can hear the crushing waves. Overall the house was clean, but we found the bathtub/shower not draining due to a huge clump of hair which we had to fish out. Also, the bathroom and kitchen cabinetry (circa 1980s) is in urgent need of replacing with falling doors, delaminated wood and rusty hardware. Finally, the window curtains work for privacy but don't darken the room, so bring a sleep mask if you wish to sleep after sunrise. Communication with the 1 800 number for surf and sound and by email was not good (messages and emails not returned or returned late), but this could be a temporary situation due to understaffing related to the pandemic. In summary, we would return.
