About this house rental
Nestled in Bahamas, this attractive house for R 20,925 per night is a great choice for your next vacation. Kataluma is under new ownership and back on the vacation rental market! We have just discounted the summer rate by $1500 per week as an introductory offer. Set on a two-mile-long powdery pink-sand beach overlooking the turquoise waters of the Atlantic, Kataluma House is a grand 6-bedroom, 6½-bath beachfront estate on Double Bay. Kataluma is our family’s dream vacation home. We are delighted to share it with guests who will care for it as we do. This secluded 5000 sf home has two levels of living space. The upper floor features a vast open-plan great room with 20 feet of sliding glass doors for stunning beach and ocean views. At night, this room becomes a home theater with surround-sound, CD/DVD player, and 10’ movie screen with film library. The lower floor of Kataluma features a second family room, a recreation room with 8-foot slate pool table and flat-screen satellite TV. Outside, luxuriate in our new oceanfront infinity pool, or in our backyard pool on the west side of the house. (There is a pool heat fee of $500 per week if you would like the pool heated.) Lounge in our shady beachside tiki hut. Explore our offshore islands and reefs with our kayaks, stand-up paddle board, and snorkel gear. Kataluma has excellent snorkeling on the beautiful coral reefs right off the beach in front of the house. Grill and enjoy your day's catch on a variety of oceanfront and poolside patios and decks. The upper level of Kataluma has four bedroom suites (all with king size beds). Each has its own name and design theme (Hibiscus, Gecko, Lotus, Frangipani) hand-carved on the wooden transom over the door. The doors are recessed into hallways to give private entry off the main living areas. Each bedroom has its own private bath, each with a unique design and style. The lower level of Kataluma features a new downstairs master suite with a king bed and private bathroom. The second downstairs bedroom is a bunk room that sleeps up to 6 and has a dedicated bathroom. It is furnished with a full-on-full bunk bed and two standard-width bunk bed sets. The lower level of Kataluma also features a second living room with a slate pool table with pub table, pub stools and spectator chairs for pool playing enthusiasts. Kataluma’s gourmet kitchen will satisfy the most demanding chef. A 15-foot center island gives plenty of space for preparing your in-home meals. Or have our cook do it for you! The stainless steel Bosch appliances include a glass cook top with downward draft ventilation, wall oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher to facilitate the needs of guests, chefs and staff. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the accoutrements needed to prepare your culinary delights including Boos board, blender, toaster, coffee grinder, coffee-maker, and a selection of spices and seasonings. Just outside the kitchen area is a large built-in Jenn-Aire gas cooking grill for your barbecue and grilling selections. If you wish to dine outside, there is a convenient deck situated just outside the kitchen’s sliding glass doors, so that you can enjoy views of the west swimming pool, garden area, the sprawling coconut forest and spectacular sunsets. Adjacent to the ocean side pool, there is an outdoor dining table. We had a wonderful stay at Kataluma!!! There were 8 adults and the main living area more than accommodated all 8 of us cooking, cleaning or just hanging out!!!! We loved the theater system and used it several evenings while winding down… the heated pool was awesome and we really enjoyed the beach.. the surf was surprisingly calm for this time of year.. we had fish brought and filleted at the house one evening and another evening we had Jeremy Lewis in one evening to prepare a meal.. all fresh, all delicious!! We also went on a private boat excursion with “exotic Excursions” with Sheldon.. he was very accommodating…
All in all Kataluma was amazing, we would definitely recommend a stay at this house..

50th birthday bash!!!
We had a wonderful stay at Kataluma!!! There were 8 adults and the main living area more than accommodated all 8 of us cooking, cleaning or just hanging out!!!! We loved the theater system and used it several evenings while winding down… the heated pool was awesome and we really enjoyed the beach.. the surf was surprisingly calm for this time of year.. we had fish brought and filleted at the house one evening and another evening we had Jeremy Lewis in one evening to prepare a meal.. all fresh, all delicious!! First time to the Bahamas. First time to Kataluma. What a spectacular week. Vacationed with 3 other couples. The house was great with a huge open area for visiting. All bedroom's had king size beds with private bathrooms, huge plus. The infinity pool was for sure our hang out spot for the week and so very awesome. The house location was very secluded and we never saw many tourists and the only time we saw locals (besides the staff) was at the store. Food and alcohol are more expensive but we knew that going in and it wasn't a big deal. The location of the house was perfect. The Atlantic ocean provided a beautiful view and crashing waves. It was a little rough, but a Hurricane had just passed through. 10 minutes away was 10 Bay Beach which was the most beautiful ocean I have ever seen. Crystal clear water and all the shades of blue. There were just a few other people at this beautiful beach (we spent two days at this beach) Before the trip, Matthew Simon was VERY responsive and helpful. The property manager Ann was very attentive as was Violet and Martin (the house staff). The only negative is the outside of the house, outside furniture need to be refreshed and replaced being pretty weather worn. The beach chairs and beach equipment all seem to need replaced. BUT none of this affected our stay and we are planning another trip May 2023. Would highly recommend this rental.

We stayed at the Kataluma house between 7/10 - 7/17/21. The pics of the of the lanai facing the ocean do the view justice, while the pictures of the interior do not. What kind of comes across as a cut up layout, this is not the case. The main floor is completely open in the multi-tiered great room with 4 bedrooms at each corner of the house.
We were a group of 9 adults and never once felt on top of each other. If you've never been to Eleuthera before, be prepared for beach roads that will hold your attention while driving. After you adjust to the change of environment, the Kataluma house will serve you very well as your retreat for comfort and relaxation. We would go out and explore on most days and then be very appreciative of what we were returning to.
The one thing I would definitely recommend to any first timer to Eleuthera is considering a chef coming to the house. We've never done that before, yet were extremely pleased with how it turned out. We had several days where lunch and dinner provided at the house cost less than one dinner out. The other challenge for the few meals we prepared for ourselves was "grocery stores" on the island are not like the supermarkets at home.
Back to the Kataluma house. When asking others about any new experience they had, I like to ask them, "would you do it again?" If someone were to ask that of me about the Kataluma house, I would respond - Absolutely.
We were a group of 9 adults and never once felt on top of each other. If you've never been to Eleuthera before, be prepared for beach roads that will hold your attention while driving. After you adjust to the change of environment, the Kataluma house will serve you very well as your retreat for comfort and relaxation. We have stayed in a number of places across the Caribbean. This is one of the best. If you like peace, quiet and being away from it all this is your spot. The pictures do not justify the views.
The property is well kept and the house was clean. Keep in mind it sits facing the ocean and takes a beating year round. The normal ocean wear was present, but Martin manages to stay ahead of it. The ocean facing infinity edge pool is wonderful, and the pool behind the house on the land side is a quite oasis. The tiki hut is a nice step off to the beach, with the toys listed. It was rough from the Atlantic side the week we stayed, but we did get in one snorkel on the reefs in front of the house, and paddled to nearest Cay several times (do this at low tide to access the beach - requires you to navigate around some coral heads).
Inside the open plan for dining and living is great. We had a crew of 8 and it was never crowded. The kitchen will have everything you need, and the appliances are all in good shape. Downstairs, the bunkroom is great for kids / teens and the other BR with a King is large and nice. No complaints on bedding, everyone slept well. Internet was good and the few times some of us had to work, it was not an issue (did have to be reset a time or two). Violet comes twice a week for a freshen up and quick clean - much appreciated.
Lastly, I would recommend having a cook come at least once during the week. We had Krystal Knowles cook for us one night and it was wonderful, and less than a meal for all of us at a restaurant.
Great place, great set up, good communication and a good value for the price.

Our family of 8 adults had a wonderful vacation in Eleuthera. Kataluma House was very accommodating for all our needs. The location, right on the Atlantic, was breathtaking!!! We enjoyed the infinity pool daily as well as peaceful walks on the pink sand and surfing the waves at the house. Kataluma is well stocked and plenty of amenities. Island Farm is right around the corner for convenient grocery and produce pick up. All dining experiences were wonderfully delicious. Property management were friendly, super helpful and quick to respond before arrival and during our stay. Will definitely plan to visit this pink sand paradise again!

We enjoyed the house for 8 nights. The pool in the picture was heated which was perfect for early spring. One day it was hotter and less wind blowing and we got in the other pool which was a few degrees cooler and it was perfect for that day. Our blender went out and I called Anne on a Sunday and it was the last day and she showed up less than a hour later with another blender so we could finish off the Pina Caldas! Outstanding. Everything in the house worked. It was clean and maids came every other day to keep it clean. We stayed at the house most of our trip. The beach access was right there with steps going down. Easy! Great house to enjoy.

The Kataluma vacation rental was a nice large house to accommodate our large family of 16. Each bedroom suite has its own bathroom and shower, which made it easy for each couple to have their own space. The grandchildren enjoyed the bunk room in the lower level of the house, which also included another adult suite to the side. We enjoyed the 2 pools one Oceanside and one on the less windy side. The large kitchen table and living room seating was ideal for a large crowd. A tiki hut outside was shaded and the pool area had an outdoor table and chaises to lay on. The ocean front provided reefs to snorkel on, it is on the Atlantic Ocean, so it was a bit wavy during our stay. Breathtaking views from the main room. They also have a big screen dvd for the kids to watch at nighttime, which they enjoyed to wind down for the evening. Bring adult dvds not many here to

The house has a great set-up and the location is very central to the island. The downfall is in the winter it is very windy on that side of the island. We were told the summer months were not. The pool was supposed to be heated but it took 3 days before it consistently worked and it was more due to my Brother-in-law figuring it out. The house has a very closed up musty smell and the bunk room smelled like spoiled linens. Ann, the property manager was great, and Martin, the maintenance guy was very responsive but it would take multiple visits to get the pool heater going and the cloudiness in the pool to disappear. The mattresses desperately need to be replaced they all sag in the middle. Overall, I think the place could use a serious deep clean and some TLC, replacing mattresses, outside furniture that has rusted and other items. The kids loved the theatre wall and the adults loved the tiki hut.

Our group stayed at Kataluma in February 2020. We were all adult couples and had plenty of room for all of us with each of us having our own bedroom and private bathroom. The infinity pool area was a favorite place of ours to hang out together. We never used the other pool. The internet connection was on and off all week and the phone line to the house was not in service but we were on vacation so the lack of connection forced us to disconnect from the outside world for a while which wasn't such a bad thing. We did a lot of exploring of the island from top to bottom. We had Jeremy and Anna come in and cook a meal for us one night. We would highly recommend them. You need to take on the attitude of being on "island time" during your stay! Slow down and enjoy the beauty!! We are so grateful for the time spent on such a beautiful island.

We are a family of 6 adults and 4 babies (ages 2 and under). This house was perfect for our family. The house was welcoming, very clean and comfortable. We loved the view from inside the house. We also loved that each bedroom had its own private bath and all the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped. The heated infinity pool was amazing, the Tiki hut was fun, we had all the toys (kayaks, floats, etc) we needed. The beach was beautiful with a nice tidal pool for our babies to play in. The staff was very impressive, friendly, professional and thorough - Anne, Violet and Martin. Josh Demeritte really made our vacation so special and easy. We fell in love with the island (Surfers Beach, Hatchet Bay Caves, Ocean Hole, Tippys, Gregory Town) and highly recommend this house, rental company, staff and location. Can't wait to return. Thanks to everyone from start to finish for helping to make our vacation one to remember.

We stayed in mid July with multiple families with small kids. The house was absolutely perfect, the layout upstairs make sure it get easy for families and adults to have rooms with their own bathrooms. The kitchen overlooking the family room into the baby blue ocean made cooking everyone’s favorite place to post up with an ice cold drink and meals. The beach is paradise , we played all day long and saw maybe 5 people the entire week. If you are looking for a true vacation of waking up daily and enjoying life, this is the place for you. This was our sixth visit to the island and we fell in love with the location down a nice sandy road, that opens up to paradise. Martin the caretaker became t friends with our crew and took care of any needs we had. The farm market stand we went to daily for lovely fresh bread, adult beverages and great tasting stone crabs and fresh veggies.

We have been to many houses throughout the "islands" and Kataluma was definitely one of our favorites. What it may lack in "glitz" it made up for in location and layout. The 4 en suite bedrooms on the top floor were perfect for our family. The kitchen was quite functional with just about everything we needed since we ate in most nights. The outside spaces are great, pictures don't do them justice. There is even a small covered area down by the beach we dubbed the Tiki Hut which was our go to spot for evening drinks. Martin the caretake was awesome and Violet the housekeeper saw that we had what we needed. We would not hesitate to go back and hope to someday.

The house was beautiful. Loved the pool and views and pink sand beach. It took some getting used to because every other vacation rental I’ve been in has had TP and hand soaps provided. It seemed weird that the bathrooms didn’t have hand soap. We didn’t have water for the first couple days because it tasted like pure salt water. Once it was adjusted by maintenance it was fine but this was definitely unexpected. The staff was great. Martin and Violet were very helpful and courteous. The grounds were well maintained. The beds were comfortable. The screen doors need replaced they kept coming off of the tracks and they didn’t line up to keep the bugs out. The bathroom window handles were broken in most bathrooms- would have been nice to be able to open these at times. The air conditioning was very nice - especially to have in each individual room. The main fan in the sitting room is broken so should be fixed or replaced. Overall we had a nice stay at Kataluma! I would recommend friends stay at a resort so all amenities could be provided. But overall we were happy with our stay.

We traveled with 3 families, 10 kids and 6 adults. Kids ranged from 3yrs-13yrs. The orientation of rooms & their individual attached bathrooms made this home ideal. The central living area & basement space were excellent. We brought in a cook to prepare meals a few times, & all ate at the large dining table The views are stunning. Bugs were honestly never a problem, so our bugspray went to waste. We rented cars from BigDaddy's car rental and they were EXCELLENT. Very helpful with airport arrivals/departure and following along with a car to help bring luggage. Can't say enough about how great they were. The waters off the home can be a bit wavy for little kids, but there is a small reef that creates a tidal pool of crystal clear water that was like our own tiny ocean swim area. Just up the beach was an amazing clear body surfing spot the kids loved. The home is equipped with everything we needed, kayaks, life vests, paddle board and other things to use. 10 Bay beach is very close and was excellent to go to. We did that several times I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. *****One thing to note: North Eleuthera Airport is a bit of a drive. The Owner's notebook suggests some other means of flying to the island that I'd explore if we are going back to Eleuthera. Perhaps inquire about those options when you're booking this house.....and you SHOULD book this house. It was great

Our group of 12 adults had a great experience in this beautiful home. The house and grounds were immaculate and everything necessary for a comfortable relaxing visit was provided. We would recommend flying into Governors Harbor to save time driving. The house manager, housekeeper, pool man and groundskeeper were all friendly and helpful. We had an excellent cook come in 3 nights, at at Pascals one night and we cooked the other nights. We chartered a fishing trip through Eleuthera Adventure Tours and a sailing/snorkeling trip with Captain Bob at . Additionally we visited Ten Beach and Harbor Island. Lots of reading resting, beachwalking. The water is fairly rough but the pools are fabulous. Highly recommend this house to anyone.

You don't see any neighbors unless you walk the beach. There are houses on both sides, but plenty of separation. Steps from the beach. You will need a car for this house - Contact Roderick Pindler, he was terrific - we got three cars from him. 2. Overall property condition: Grounds and pools were great, very clean. Prop description says it was "remodeled and expanded in May-July 2014". However, the house feels about 10-15 years old. I think this is due to the location on the ocean, the sea is just tough on homes. A lot of rust here and there. I would say the house is a 3.5 star out of five in luxury. I would describe it as "comfortable". 3. Bedrooms. No one complained about the beds, all very comfortable. AC worked in all but one bedroom, but it wasn't needed in that room. Note on this, you can't leave your windows open to hear and feel the sea breeze at night or you will be destroyed by no-see-ums and will have to RAID the entire house, they can go through the screens. This would have been good to know. Plan on using AC in any climate. The downstairs bunk is great for kids, but very poorly ventilated and stuffy, no AC in this area but has a large fan we used. The bunk furniture is very cheap and we were concerned the kids would break it but it held up. 4. Pool table. Kind of cheap, 3 out of 5 stars but still fun. 5. Internet / phone. The wifi works okay, but internet not strong enough to stream music on Apple/Pandora, too weak to consistently login to Quickbooks online. Kids couldn't use Netflix on devices - this was probably a good thing, they spent most of the time outside. The phone lines, thus internet was down about 4 days, I here this is common. 6. Kitchen. These outages require the pool heater (yes, you will need it heated) needed to be reset . Pool guy Martin was awesome.
8. Cleaners. Miss Violet and assistant came twice a week. They were great.
9. Prop manager. Anne was great. Very responsive via text.
Overall, a great stay. Good house.
