Absolutely everything! The staff were a stand out, they were so lovely and helpful and our ranger Martin was so amazing - super passionate about the reserve and it shows! The rooms were big, clean and very comfortable - 3 amazing nights of sleep! The watering hole was right outside our room and we saw giraffes, warthogs, kudu and more!
Nothing! Would love to come back some day.

Everything! Lodge very comfortable. Staff amazing! Lucilla greeted us with a warm welcome and sorted out transfers etc. Luke Jean was a fantastic butler, friendly and helpful throughout, and Martin was an amazing ranger, making our game drives fun and very interesting with his phenomenal knowledge of all animals, birds, plants etc. There are two game drives included every day, one first thing in the morning and the second after lunch. A total of approximately 7 hours! Food was great too, and the free mini bar in the room was a great bonus. Extremely good value for money!
Please note. Some reviews say private hot tub. It is actually not heated so really a plunge pool. Not that this made any difference to our overall stay.

Lovely part of the Eastern Cape. Well received and looked after by the staff! Spoilt my wife, who is from America, to our African bush and wildlife. She thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our adventures on the included game drives. And the all-inclusive food package was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back and hopefully a much longer stay.

Absolutely incredible lodge. All the staff go above and beyond and everyone is so friendly. All the food was delicious and plentiful. Very clean and felt thoroughly looked after. Our ranger Martin was so knowledgable and simply the best. Jean Luke our butler was so attentive, from
beginning to end. I would highly recommend anybody wanting to go on safari to Amakhala to stay here at the safari lodge. An experience we will treasure forever! Thank you!
Nothing - it’s the best place ever!

Absolutely everything!! Amakhala Lodge certainly put the icing on the cake to end our South African holiday!!
The room was amazing, clean and spacious. We loved the plunge pool and outdoor shower. The food was out of this world (diet on our return home), there was plenty of it and delicious.
The staff were the most friendlest people and they were very helpful, nothing wasn't to much trouble (even booking us a shuttle back to PE).
Our ranger Soni was brilliant, he knew his stuff and we saw all the animals over our stay.
I'd go back to Amakhala Lodge in a heartbeat!

beautiful rooms and buildings.
a little bit of work on the roads and tracks wouldn’t go amiss. too many big bumps in the road where they shouldn’t be.

The whole place is stunning from the 4 giraffe we saw on our drive through the gates, the service and attention you receive is amazing. The game drives were excellent Martin really knows everything about the area from the largest to the smallest details. We had the experience of a lifetime with 20 elephant passing us on the road, one even greeting us. Highly recommend the tranquility and service of Safari Lodge and the whole of the Amakhala reserve.
Some much needed rain arrived on our second day but they equip you well with ponchos and blankets.

The beautiful room and proximity to nature. The whole site is stunning. Food was very good - room mini bar very generous. We loved the private plunge pool to cool off and the choice of bath or outside shower. The guides are very knowledgeable but the drives are at different times from other places we’ve stayed - afternoon departs at 3 pm so ensure you’re there in plenty of time.

We spent three nights here which was probably the perfect amount. Very well organised with two game drives and meals organised around it. The food ended up being much more than we're used to - my husband and I ended up sharing a few lunches and dinners...! Our game driver Martin was very good and we saw and learnt a lot. It was very cold on the game drives (end of September), so we were greatful for the warm ponchos the lodge provided (and for the underfloor heating in our cottage!). The staff were very nice and helpful. The food was good but not stunning, but that's also not what you would expect for the price we paid. All in all, very good value for money and we had a great stay!

The staff were amazing, food exceptional. Unathi the butler made the stay extremely enjoyable
and Nonny the game driver was very knowledgable and made the game drives really fun and interesting.
it’s quite a long drive to the main reserve where all of the animals are and the reserve is split in two by the busy N2 road which takes away the authenticity of the safari experience as you see fences and cars.

No bar .limited menu and no activities except game drive
Food and drinks limited and not much activities except game drive which is a bit too long.

The game ranger, Noni, was amazing, enthusiastic and passionate about the animals. He was knowledgeable and made the drive exciting and interesting.
The staff were very blase about my lactose intolerance, even though I made it abundantly clear that this is a real problem for me. I was very sick the first night and was up the entire night with severe nausea and diahorrea: First I was served tomato soup with cream. When I asked if it was lactose free the butler took it back and brought another bowl of soup without the cream, which I ate. I couldn't keep the food down. The steak was overdone but my tummy was already upset to eat any of the main course. The desert, (not joking!!) was a dollop of ICE CREAM with a stewed pear. Although I wasn't comfortable to go on the 7am game drive, a guest fortunately gave me some imodium. It was a wonderful drive. We would have liked to have stayed a second night, but I had to leave as I wasn't feeling very well.

Words can not express how happy we were with the accomodation overall. We were treated exceptionally well. The food and drink was marvellous. The staff went above and beyond. Truly great experience

The Location it self is exceptional. The bungalows / Tents are amazing. We had our own terrace with pool, a small living room, a very comfortable bed with Moskito-Net around it. A beautiful bathroom with a bathtub and outdoor shower. The game-drive’s where stunning.

The staff are amazingly attentive, catering to your every need. The game drives were varied and thoroughly enjoyable - we saw 3 of the Big 5 and our game driver Martin was fantastic. The rooms are a half tent style which makes for a perfect combination of luxury with an authentic safari feel. The direct view of the watering hole from your window/plunge pool with sightings of giraffes, antelope, warthogs and the famous elephant Norman without leaving your room were a particular highlight. The food and drink (all included in the price) were delicious too.
Unfortunately we did not see any lions or cheetahs, which was a bit disappointing considering we travelled so far and safaris are expensive! Our game driver did his absolute best during the 4 x 4 hour safari drives but given that the large cats are so few in number and the game reserve is so huge, the odds were stacked against us. Nevertheless we had a wonderful time and I would not hesitate to recommend Amakhala for a truly magical and memorable stay. Thanks again!

The facilities of a small pool helped in the heat .Room adequately furnished .
Difficult to say but certainly a three star accommodation in need of renovation .Food sub standard ,and the game drives not suited to arrival time ,also meals crammed into this schedule .This was not what was expected for the description seen on booking .com.for the exorbitant price of R8000 per night ,far better game farms can be accessed .The bar fridge was in need of cleaning out, and 2 packets of crisps and small bottle of gin in the shelf ,not for upmarket accommodation.

The design and layout of the rooms were perfect. it was an experience not to be missed. Apart from what we liked about the property we loved the game drives with our ranger “ Mr President” who had so much knowledge to offer. It took time but we did see the big 5 and a whole lot more!
The outdoor areas such as the patio and the pool area are in need of attention. The water in the pool was cloudy and not inviting to venture into.

The Safari lodge is very well designed , offering a great variety of private spaces to enjoy. Our room was very spacious and designed with couples in mind, double shower, double bath and private plunge pool overlooking the water hole visited by girafes, dykkers and the star of the show Norman the bull elephant. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and sundowners a real treat. A great variety of animals were seen on the drives and our ranger Nonny was exceptionally knowledgeable.
The number of big cats, lions, cheetahs and leopards is limited and they may not be seen.
The standard of the evening meals didn t match the quality of safari lodge .

The best game drives I have ever had. We also absolutely loved the accommodation, it's very rare you get to be in a pool and looking at wild animals at the same time
Would of liked a wardrobe in the room, and better shower gel
