Overall, an excellent stay.

Overall the hotel is comfortable and well presented with a lovely authentic Japanese feel. The private balcony baths are a highlight and the room was spacious by Japan standards . The breakfast was fantastic and staff were very welcoming and helpful.

It’s slightly frustrating that the checkin ends at 18:00, but final restaurant booking is 15:00. This means that if you don’t book dinner with your reservation, you cannot get fed at the hotel, irrespective of capacity. Nonetheless, the staff were very apologetic and overall I would not say this retracts from the experience. Just something to be aware of and could be better communicated on the website.

Superb

Amazing room. Mountain view, open air private onsen. Little things that made this stay incredible. Staff were nice and caring. We arrived when dinner was already being served. And if it wasn't for the night manager, we would have gone to bed without any food. But in some way, they manage to give us two of the best fillet mignon ever had. Get the 120g. We got 60g, it was small!!!! Our waiter was lovely and made sure we had the best dinner even though we weren't supposed to be there. His name was Cole. Or something like that!. Surely going back.

Nothing really major. The room smelled funky at first, but nothing that an open window couldn't fix.

Close to cable car, easy access to the volcano and the lake. Rock bath was cool. Bed comfortable.

Price was too much vs other nice hotels we had in Japan. Onsen was ok

Fantastic Ryokan, friendly welcoming staff, comfertable rooms, and great little romantic getaway.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming, prior to my stay I had a few questions, and everything was answered promptly, they were very accommodating, and they even helped me to organise a surprise cake for my girlfriend during dinner. The room was very comfortable and had a great view, the food was excellent, and the stone sauna was very relaxing. My girlfriend is Japanese and I speak enough of the language to get by, but the staff member on duty when we arrived really made the effort to speak to me in English. Many times I've had staff at other hotels just ignore me and speak directly to my girlfriend, without even attempting to talk to me in English or Japanese, so I really appreciated this friendly and professional approach.

Convenient location, excellent food, good staff

We had the breakfast and dinner, both were excellent! Some of the best food we’ve had at hakone hotel.

The bed was too firm for our liking. And although the location is convenient to other places, we didn’t have the best view from our room. Because of covid measures, the boiler caused a strong smell while we were thru the whole facility.
