About this villa rental
This beautiful site of 3 converted traditional stone mill buildings is ideal for groups consisting of couples or families seeking to holiday together but with some privacy between them too! This option gives renters full privacy and private use of gardens and pool - all included in the price. A wonderful setting, with views of mountains all across one side, and shielded by private chestnut woodland on the other, this is a real mountain hideaway and a fantastic adventure. The site is framed at the back by part an original aquaduct, and there is also a stream running through, which forms little pools for cooling off in when the water is running well. All 3 character properties, apart from sharing such a unique setting, have been restored with a great deal of love and care, boasting beamed ceilings, stone flooring, chestnut windows and so forth. Properties: There is 'Mulino Grande' which has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 kitchens, dining area, and living roomThis house sleeps 8. Then, on the same site but on the other side of the gardens are 'Piccolo Mulino' and 'Bambini'. These two cottage apartments which are built into the old aquaduct carrying water to the mill are cute options for couples /small families, both with privacy and their own large alfresco dining space too. Bambini is a one bedroom, 1 shower room property with living/kitchen/diner, sleeping 2 plus 2. Piccolo Mulino is a studio type apartment with an open plan living/kitchen/diner which has a good quality large double sofa bed. There is a ladder style staircase leading to a mezzanine area with 2 single beds too. Shower room. The gardens really are the piece di resistance here, with lots of different places to relax in peace or be together! There is a furnished picnic and BBQ area in the woodland, a wonderful relaxing and dining terrace with amazing views at Bambini, and a terrace and outdoor eating area for all to eat together outside Casa Grande. There are grassed areas,, large hammock, various BBQ spots, ping pong area and also a covered marquee if you don't fancy eating inside if it rains. The owners have thought of everything. Of course, there is also the large 12M x 6M private pool (plus roman steps), which is gated for safety, and is surrounded by an ample sunbathing area and quality sunbeds. The old stone aqueduct, which once brought water to the mill to drive the millstones below, runs behind the site too and the millstones of the old mill still work today and are used to obtain fine chestnut flour and corn flour; you can see the chestnuts being ground, as they were in days gone by. This really is a unique opportunity to stay on a site where one feels as though time has stood still. Pure relaxation and peace! The gardens also boasts a large private gated pool, and a sunbathing area equipped with quality sunbeds. It will be difficult to tear one-selves away! Treat yourselves! NB - IMPORTANT If there are just up to 8 guests then you will hire the main house only with the other 2 houses closed off for privacy. If there are 10 guests then you will have the main house and one apartment with the other closed for privacy. So, you always have full privacy but the price quoted changes depending on the number of guests. If you wish to book and use all 3 houses and there are only 8 of you do advise and the price will be amended accordingly. AREA: There is loads of space for exploring, walking & relaxing, & there is a feeling of pure peace, with just the sound of the stream gurgling . Set high in the hills, overlooking countryside, & a mediaeval village below, with the mountains as a backdrop, this really is a heavenly location! Whilst set in the depths of the countryside, amongst beech woods & chestnut trees, the site is located within walking distance of a good restaurant and basic shop (you need to ring the bell !). There is a selection of good restaurants within a 15 min drive too with more thereafter. The drive to the supermarket/hypermarket is less than half hour in both North and South of the valley. If you can tear yourselves away from this little piece of paradise some distances for trips out are below: Pisa - 1 hr 15 mins - visit the famous leaning tower and more besides. Florence - just under 2 hours - great day out when it is not too hot. Visit the Uffizzi, Ponte Vecchio, Michelangelo's David, meander along the Arno. Lucca - under an hour . A mediaeval fully walled city, often voted the best city in Italy! Cycle the fully intact walls, relax in the parks, have a cappuccino in many of the large piazzas watching the world go by... The birthplace of Puccini, you can go to an opera recital most evenings, dine in the many restaurants, visit the 99(!) churches, climb the towers or shop til you drop in the shaded mediaeval streets..... Barga - a beautiful mediaeval town, well known for its arty feel, and its good restaurants. In high season there is often live music in the evenings, and there is an annual jazz festival. Beautiful views abound! Castelnuovo - local market town 30 mins. Grotta del Vento - Wind Caves - 45 mins Parco di Levegliese - country adventure park with torrentismo/canyoning/rock climbing - 45 mins Spa town of Bagni di lucca - 40 mins And lots more besides.... Beat the crowd in olde worlde Italy in a medieaval setting, but join the sightseeing when you wish!

We were with 2 families (4 adults and 3 kids) and were surprised of how large the total accommodation was and also the fact that it is really remote. The quietness is breathtaking. And there are so many different spots where you can sit down and relax. A special thanks to our caretaker Giuliano. He was our go to guy when we needed anything!

Vacances exceptionnelles
Propriété exceptionnelle. Il y a tout ce dont on a besoin en vacances. Nous sommes arrivés à 15, en famille et chacun avait la possibilité d’être Indépendant (salle de bain et chambre) et avait son intimité. Piscine géniale, tout le
monde a apprécié . Villa magnifique, dans le style pur toscan(vieilles pierres et très bien aménagée) nous la recommandons vivement. Et les propriétaires sont d’une extrême gentillesse et toujours présent si nous avions besoin d’eux, c’est très appréciable. Cela fut d’excellentes vacances.

Beautiful and comfortable property with a lot of space, perfect as base of operations to explore Tuscany. The pictures do not really make it justice, it's way better. The kids loved the facilities (very big pool, ping pong, river stream, patios, bbq), ideal to spend lazy morning and nights before/after leaving to explore the region or just spend the day if not feeling like going out. Good restaurants around, we recommend Sandra (2km) and Mulino Vecchio (5km); and overall nice surroundings.

House in the mountains
We had such a wonderful stay at Borgo i Mulinetti. Travelling with my extended family and we could all get a house of our own. Perfekt! The view over the valley was amazing. The beds were really good and comfy. We enjoyed the pool every day:) Our children loved to watch all the small lizards running around! Sure, it was a bit of a ride up to the house, but it was so worth it! We did our shopping in at the big supermarket 30 min away. There's a small path in the woods to a nearby village. Or you can drive. We found a small shop, just knocked on the door and an elderly woman came to open for us. We also bought our breakfast eggs from the local farmer :) It was truly a wonderful vaccation. First we had alot of things planned but in the end we rarely leaved the property. Beacuse we loved it so much!! Really quiet and good for the soul. And for the legs, haha! Running up and down from the pool to the house on the top was a bit of a workout:)

We recently had a family holiday in this lovely property. First of all - the location is absolutely stunning - the views are wonderful. If you want to get away from it all and relax in peace and quiet this is the place.
We were four generations and 10 people in total. The house accommodated us comfortably - my parents (in their 80s) stayed in the Bambini house which worked perfectly as they had space and peace from the younger members of the group! There are a lot of stairs in the main house so care needs to be taken if you have little ones or mobility problems.
You can see how much love and care has been taken with renovating the property and it has been well thought out.
The pool is beautiful and there were plenty of good quality loungers and umbrellas. The table tennis table was a huge hit and what views!
The kitchen was well equipped and we had everything we needed to cater for everyone. We found a little shop down the hill for basic supplies but did the majority of food shopping at Conad in Gallicano. The drive up and down the hill is quite epic!
We were very happy to spend the majority of time at Borgo Mulino but did make a trip to Lucca which was lovely. We ate out at Sandra’s and also Il Canapale which were both welcoming and extremely good value.
The grounds of the property were larger than we expected and very pretty with the stream flowing down. There is a footpath from the top of the property up to Vallico Sopra which is fun to do.
All in all, we thought Borgo Mulino was super and we didn’t want to leave. Thank you!

We were 10 adults and 5 children and everybody enjoyed the week.
The Mulinetti is comfortable and the position a bit up in the mountains means hot days and cool nights. We have rented houses in France and Italy every summer for our family for 15 years and we all think that this was the best until now. Do not be afraid of the winding roads, it only adds to the notion of silence and peace, all you hear is the rippling creek.

We spent two weeks here with extended family including 6 children under 4 . We were very conscious of the stairs however we had no issues and absolutely loved the house, the pool and the setting. You just need to watch the smaller ones. The drive up here is worth it for the amazing views and the tranquility it affords . We visited Lucca and some of our party hired bikes and rode the city wall , loved Pisa and Barga others in our party went to Florence and then to Maranello to see the cars! Of course the sunshine and beautiful Italian food ,pasta. Pizza and ice cream just make you fall in love with Italy in general!
We loved Restarante Da Sandra ......amazing value and beautiful food ....we took all the children....and we were made to feel very welcome !
We have between 15 of us seen 1 fox 3 badgers, 2 black squirrels, a couple of small black headed grass snakes and one large snake visited us by the pool ! Up in smaller houses they had a few scorpions ......four in total but easily removed!
This place is magical for those who like to be away from the crowds .....for us grandparents who like to spend time with children and grandchildren it was perfection .
thank you for sharing this lovely Home with us

While the home and grounds were beautiful, and the owners were very accommodating and welcoming, the property is somewhat difficult to reach. If you plan on staying at the home and exploring the surrounding fantastic villages in the area, it is perfect and highly recommended. However, if you plan on exploring nearby cities such as Lucca, Pisa, and Florence, the drive up/down the mountain from the main road is somewhat tedious and makes the drive about 45 minutes from Lucca.

Fantastic
Borgo Mulino was fantastic, very high quality build and good standard overall, clean , well equipped , pool was great.
Weather was hot in the day but the mountain air cools you down in the evening.
The local restaurant at the top of the hill is great value and really nice.
Its literally in the middle of nowhere which was perfect for our large group.
The staff who met us on arrival were really nice and helpful- they assisted us in booking a restaurant and finding some lost luggage
The driving should not be underestimated though !
Over all 5/5 , seriously good :)

Stunning Property nestled in the hills of Tuscany
We had a fantastic time in Borgo Mullino. The views are stunning, the houses impeccable and the owners unfailingly friendly and helpful. The property is circa 40 minutes drive from Lucca through beautiful countryside. In the local area we went canyoning, paragliding rock-climbing and walking, all of which were great. As the houses are up in the hills/mountains, the temperature is pleasantly warm but never gets to the uncomfortable levels of the valleys.

A fantastic break for three families
The garden and houses were much bigger than we expected and were more than enough for our party of 3 families (6 adults and 5 children). We didn't even need to use one of the houses. They were well appointed and comfortable but we spent a lot more time outside than inside anyway.
The pool is a great size, especially for older children (all of ours were over 10) and a lot of time was spent in there. The garden was great to walk around with plenty of wildlife including an abundance of geckos and one day a deer (behind a fence). The stream running through the garden was very pretty and even included a waterfall (more photos of the garden on the website would be good).
This part of Tuscany is very scenic but as a result the road from the main valley to the house is windy but not scary if driven at normal driving speed rather than Italian style! Despite the rural location we still managed to visit Lucca, Pisa, and Florence on day trips as well as enjoy the scenery on the doorstep.
This is a great property for a group of families provided that you want to be in a peaceful rural location rather than in the middle of a tourist resort.

Stunning setting well beyond expectations
We arrived on the second week of a three week holiday in Tuscany to be met by Sauro and Marita who were very welcoming. Whilst the the property is a little off the beat and track it is a must for anyone wanting a relaxing get away from it all location. First impressions when we arrived were wow ,the property, location and setting were just stunning. For the whole two week stay we could not pick a fault .The only negative that i could add to this review was that we had to leave at the end of our holiday.
