The hosts were very friendly. They booked me a reservation for whiskey tour and tasting at the Nikka Distillery in Yoichi. The location is quiet, but a bit far from the main attractions in Otaru [it is about a 20 minute bus ride from Otaru Station on bus number 16- the bus stop is a little difficult to find at first. It is across the street from the Bus terminal in front of the Nagasakiya shopping complex (I would recommend shopping for your groceries at the supermarket on the lower level). The bus runs twice an hour so the location wasn't that much of an inconvenience]. The three cats were fun to interact with during breakfast. There was a microwave, refrigerator, and filtered water dispenser for the guests to use.

The accommodation is not really a hotel or guesthouse, but feels like you are staying in a room of someone's house. For instance you eat breakfast in their kitchen/living room as the hosts watch television and prepare for their day. You share the same shower facility as the hosts. There is only one bathroom upstairs for the three rooms to share. I did laundry while I was there, but there was a little miscommunication about how/where to dry the clothes. The bed was a little small and was a modified "bunkbed" type with a pullout bed below. I can't imagine two people sharing the room. I stayed three nights, but I think this accommodation is best for a shorter stay.

Owner allowed me to place my bicycle in the entrance hall of the house. Tried their best to communicate using a digital translator.

All in all, this place was too homy for me. Others might like it that way! I found no lock on the entrance door of my room although another guest was occupying the room next to mine. It made me feel uncomfortable. Served sweet bread, jam and butter at breakfast, which I don’t consider a healthy breakfast to get ready for biking! Better to have a choice of Japanese or Western breakfast!

The property owner asked me to leave in the middle of my stay because I used to get back late even though their property policies don’t mention any curfew timings. The most unprofessional behavior I have ever encountered She completely lied about me making noise / not having breakfast on time . Because she couldn’t have talked about the curfew openly. She entered the washroom and pushed me. This is the most sexist behavior I have ever seen. Sexist, unfair, disrespectful and the worst experience of my life and a waste of a day which could have been fruitful. You see a woman, she’s alone, she is coming home late and you don’t like it . So mention it in your policies. That way you can at least be professional. The room was not cleaned as promised probably because the owners didn’t like me because I stayed out late. ON MY MUCH AWAITED HOLIDAY!! I do have a record of our conversations if Booking.com would like to see! And @booking.com how can you let your hosts treat the guests like that? This is not okay. What happened was so unfair. Two of your customer service agents were thoughtful to me about this situation but one of them told me that she was worried about me so she wanted me to come home early but actually it’s just cultural prejudice against girls who like to stay out late. THIS IS NOT OKAY

Hosts being disrespectful and not complying with policies

I spent 3 nights there with my family. Nice place with so friendly host family. Location is not far from the down town. Prices are affordable. Breakfast is delicious.
