Great location. Beautifully decorated keeping the style and integrity of Victorian era. The lounges with live music are fun. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Did not have breakfast. The Location is fantastic!!

The location is near everything and the historic site is a spectacle.
Our hotel room was located in the rear of the building and faced the train tracks. If you like the train horn blasting, then room 303 is for you!

It's the iconic Strater Hotel, the antique charm is beautiful. If you set your expectations that you are staying in a very old hotel with a lot of history, it's perfect. The staff is friendly and the cocktail bars have a cozy atmosphere and delicious drinks.

This hotel has a fabulous history and has been well maintained. The staff were super helpful and very pleasant to deal with.
The parking was a bit of an issue, we had a massive snowstorm overnight and having to wheel our suitcases through 2 foot of snow over the railway line was not ideal.

It’s just so wonderful. I love historic properties and they have done a wonderful job with the decorations and the atmosphere. The staff was all very friendly we had a drink in the office and the cocktails were delicious.
My only let down were that the beds were not very comfortable. Very soft and felt old. One thing I don’t want is a historic bed! lol

The Office was nice . The staff was very friendly.
The room had broken furniture and the bed was very uncomfortable.

The Starter Hotel is truly a historic building and entering it was like a gateway to the past. Walking through the doors transported us straight into the late 1800s. The hotel is also a living history museum and includes tours with a tour guide through the hotel if desired. The staff was friendly and helpful with our questions both about the hotel and the surrounding area. The restaurants attached provided wonderful food and entertainment, I would suggest checking out the saloon to see live bands and great food. With The Strater Hotel being on Main Ave there are many options for food, drink, and entertainment all within walking distance, making it ideal for a week stay. We decided it would be the only hotel we stay at when we return to Durango each year.

The hotel was clean and warm. Staff was friendly, rooms were comfortable. Restaurants and bars were easy to access from indoors. Great coffee in the lobby.
The food at the mahogany grille was served lukewarm.

Location and staff were great. It's an older hotel so can't go to high on the ratings as the size of the room as kinda small but it was fine with me.

The location was exceptional. It’s so nice not having to drive everywhere, this hotel is located right smack in the middle of the hot spots. The ambiance was comfortable and elegant.
It was lacking a sort of gift shop that offers, snacks, drinks and conveniences.

The location is great. And it was fun to stay in the historic inn. But the furnishings and facilities are a little tired. No breakfast.
Vacuum the drapes. The dust in the room triggered allergy.

I love the Victorian Era. The hotel was so authentic and pretty. I loved the wallpaper and furniture in our room.
The morning coffee was a nice touch. But I wished you had a breakfast.

I like the feeling I had from when I first stepped in the door. We took a trip to decompress and relax. The Strater helped us do just that. What an amazing experience.
I didn’t like having to go home once the trip was over. Haha.

Everything was great. Very lovely and unique decor. Lots of fun history and amenities. We love that every room is special and there is beautiful stained glass and hidden cubbies. The entertainment in their facilities is nice with the different music options. Nice staff. Amazing location too.

Location, history
No luggage carts and no bellmen. The walls were thin but that just provided nighttime entertainment ;)

Gorgeous hotel brimming with history and a sort of cozy grandeur. The staff is friendly, capable and for the most part unflappable. They went above and beyond to meet my needs. My room was beautiful and so comfortable. The sheets were soft and welcoming and the fixtures were perfection. All in all a lovely time!
Not much anyone can do about this given the constraints of history and the time the hotel was built, but the bathroom was cramped and hard to move around in and the room was a little too impinging (except for the tall ceilings). I felt a bit claustrophobic. In addition, there was one staff member that made me feel as if my dog was not welcome, merely tolerated. Seemingly excessive concern that he might shed or damage the furniture (which is, indeed, lovely and worth preserving). It seems to me, though, that it must be a hard row to both welcome pets and worry about keeping everything pristine. Those two activities have proven sadly incompatible for me personally.

Built in 1887, the hotel has been renovated but retains its original charm and is well-kept. Wallpaper was pretty, woodwork magnificent, and our bed was comfortable. Nice view from the 4th floor. Staff were very helpful. Location in the historical part of Durango was an exciting place with lots of youth and energy. Our room had a journal with guest entries from past years.
Our room and bathroom were small but clean. Parking was free, but lots were a half-block or more away. Some travelers would have difficulty with steps entering the hotel and in a number of inside places.

Didn't eat breakfast. Love the history of the place. Enjoyed the piano playing.

this is a very old historic hotel. It is well preserved and neat and clean. Different staff were very nice and accommodating. They put a mini fridge in our room for us.
The rooms are quite small, but comfortable. The bar was a lot of fun with the live music and old time outfits on the waitresses.
It was in a great location within walking distance to several other restaurants.
