Run down and delapidated but great views and good for walking
Great location, stunning views and nearby disued quarrys which were lovely for walking the dog around. The house manager Rachael was friendly and helpful
Everything. Firstly, on arrival to the property there were several industrial sized bins piled high with the rubbish in the entrance to the driveway, swarming with flies, smelling and just looking unsightly. We were told by the house manager that there had been an issue with the council collecting it, so the owner had had to pay for a private service, she apologised and said that the rubbish would be collected the next morning. Needless to say when we left on Monday nothing had been collected and the rubbish was still there. Also after looking back at reviews, someone had put about the rubbish back in April of this year. Once we got onto the driveway, things got worse there was an old caravan and car just sat rotting, there were piles of trash everywhere from bin bags with general waste to broken down trampolines , tumble dryers and garden furniture. I honestly don’t even know where to start. The entire house was absolutely covered in mould and damp to the point that we could not use the living room or downstairs bedroom. We just had to close the doors on them and none of us set foot in them. They were unusable, the mould and damp was that bad after a couple of minutes in there we were all coughing as it was getting on our chest and the smell was unbearable, the smell was through the entirety of the house, however lesser in some areas than others. Then we have the bar area at the back of the house and the kitchen area again everything was just old and dirty and dilapidated. I opened one kitchen cupboard and another one fell off, the cooker hood did not work, all the sills around the bottom of the kitchen were falling to pieces and falling off. Absolutely every corner of the property was just covered in thick dirty cobwebs. We also on the first night had a leak in the kitchen corner, we caught it with bowls and I have no idea where it came from as we were all just sat in the bar area at the time and we heard the dripping.

Beautiful Location
Location, plenty of space, the bar, darts, beautiful countryside, the tandoori place did a fantastic take away.
Rubbish was piled up outside, but it was mentioned to us and I believe the Staff tried to get it cleared.

Extremely disappointing and stressful.
We had good communication by text from the housekeeper who met us with the keys and showed us around on arrival. She was sympathetic and very quick to respond when we encountered several problems shortly after arrival but the problems we encountered were out of her hands. The house is large with a good sized garden. It was clean and is in a lovely location. A starter pack of logs and coal were provided.
Sadly we had to check out after one night as we encountered several issues. We noticed scaffolding on the side of the house but did not imagine that any construction work would take place during our holiday. The housekeeper told us that the log burner in the games room was unusable as the doors were shut fast. We couldn't log in to Now TV (the only channel available) because it was being used by someone outside of the property. The large cooker hood fell off the wall the first time we used the cooker. Workmen arrived in several vehicles without warning at 7.55am on the first morning and began taking off the roof tiles. This caused a lot of noise and disturbance and made it unsafe for anyone, including our children and dog, to use the outside areas. The shower drain was blocked causing water to overflow and leak through the ceiling below making some of the electrics trip. We did not feel confident about the safety of the electrics e.g. there was an electrical socket next to the sink in one of the bathrooms and some areas of the house were in need of urgent repair e.g the back door. By the time we had checked out by midday on the first morning half the roof tiles were off the roof. The owner was unsympathetic and unhelpful. Booking.com have been sympathetic and helpful.

A potentially great holiday compromised by decaying infrastructure beyond our expectations
Location and size of the house. Rachel who was on hand to help was exceptionally willing and made our stay a lot more pleasant.
Breakfast room stinks as a result of sofas that urgently need removing, couldn't use this room. Many bedroom windows stuck and couldn't ventilate these rooms. Additionally fire safety rules breached since access is unavailabel in the event of evacuation

Very good
The location was great good size garden very spacious house and the bar area was where we spent most of our time together. The property is very old and quirky we did enjoy our stay
The Fridge Freezer was broken and on looking at other reviews it's been like it for a while The breakfast room had a very bad smell in it so much so we had to shut the door and not use it

Lovely stay
The location was great, lots of things to do locally. Lovely big garden for children to play in. Bedrooms were lovely and spacious. Great value for money. Would visit again.
There was a bad smell in the breakfast room which meant we couldn't use it. Not overly clean but good enough, the house is quite old I'd say and as to be expected with that. The garden was lovely but could have done with a bit of a tidy up.

Great long weekend in an old unique house
This is a big old house with lots of character in the middle of nowhere near an old slate quarry - great walks. It might have been a b&b in the past, or maybe a social club, and bizarrely (but brilliantly) has it's own bar in a back room (bring your own booze), cosy and snug, complete with working fireplace. It was exactly what we wanted, and we didn't expect anything more. It's very secluded, with views of Snowden from the large back garden. Great for a getaway with friends.
The heating is only in from November to the end of March. We were there in the first week of April, and it was bloody cold. But the fireplaces all work, and all the beds have electric blankets. Won't be a problem in the warmer months. There was only one working dart for the dart board.
