This is my third time staying here. We've had as few as two people here and as many as six, comfortably. The hill to the West provides good shade late in the day to help cool things off. I enjoy sitting on the deck reading a book and watching the animals walk by. I've seen deer, turkeys, hawks among other critters.Just to the South of the property, off the deck, there are several birch trees. The leaves make the most peaceful sound in the wind. There is always plenty of firewood for the fire pit out back, just pay attention to the fire risk level. I made a few improvement recommendations last year and they were all taken care of. A better more comfortable mattress with tables next to the bed were added, thanks.

Perfect for 2 couples. Nice to each have our own bathroom. It was clean & had almost everything we needed. Great supply of towels was a plus. Would have been nice to have an ice maker in the fridge. Also if you don't like doing dishes there is no dishwasher. Nice location. They are developing the area so there was machinery that was a little noisy at times. We would definitely consider this cabin again.

Clean, nice deck w grill. Beds were extremely comfortable, plenty of room! We saw chipmunks and deer while we were out on the deck! Already recommended to other family for their stay!

Overall we had an amazing time in the black hills! The property was clean, we saw deer from the deck, and it was close to the trails we needed for our UTVs! The negatives were it not being secluded like it looks in the picture, there was NO A/C and the drive way was too steep/tight for our truck and trailer to make it up. However, we did enjoy mornings and evenings on the deck however & had no problems with the bed. Would be great for families or UTVer's with a smaller trailer.

Sitting outside by the fire pit was super enjoying. The privacy was from any other place there great as well just wanted to get away. Everything was perfect!

The cabin was wonderful! It was so clean. There were plenty of extra towels and linens. The neighborhood is beautiful and quiet. We will be back next summer. The only suggestion I have is a king bed or 2 twin beds for the bedroom. Thanks for a great weekend getaway!

This was a wonderful cabin....except for the master queen size bed. I woke up with spasms from stem to stern so to speak. I slept on the floor for the rest of our stay because it was so uncomfortable. With a new bed, I definitely stay there again.

Great location, would give it a ten but the bed on the main level needs to be replaced! Tried the upstairs bedroom on the fourth night. It was better, but much warmer.

We avoid hotels because a good VRBO rental is typically more comfortable and convenient for cooking with food allergies.
We were not able to sleep here - the bed was that bad. Our last night in South Dakota, we stayed at a Holiday Inn and it was glorious in comparison. We contemplated switching to the beds upstairs half way through our stay but the bugs were bad up there.
This is more of an annoyance but after no sleep, we found out the coffee pot took about an hour to brew a small pot. The rental didn’t have coffee filters on-hand so we had to go out and buy some. We were able to laugh about it because we were so exhausted and had to wait that long for a cup of coffee.
Personally, I avoid leaving negative reviews, but it was so uncomfortable that it was comical. I highly suggest the Red Barn rental which is similar in size located in the Cheyenne Crossing area and much more comfortable to stay at.
A new mattress and coffee pot, stocking the rental with basics like coffee filters… and it would have been a relaxing, enjoyable stay.

Beautiful., Clean and well stocked. Access to many attractions- all within an easy commute. Property manager responsive. Loved the wildlife in the area.
1 disappointment and 1 gripe:
First, the cabin is not secluded. While set in the the black hills, the feeling was more of a neighborhood than a getaway cabin. Neighbors are easily seen and heard. It felt “crowded” . The disappointment was that the advertisement pictures led me to believe it was more private. Aerial pictures provided in the advertisement do not reflect what I experienced. If you are looking for a private getaway- this is not your place.
Secondly the gripe- speed bumps!!!! Once into the “ neighborhood”, the gravel road to the cabin was peppered w speed bumps. I certainly understand the value and reason, but they are so numerous, large and in some cases hard to see that they require you to fully stop before you cross comfortably. Im all for the safety aspect of these devices. , but these were a true nuisance .

This is our second time staying at this cabin. I love the location and the mountain/hill just to the West is amazing, much bigger in person. After the sun sets the temps cool off quickly after a hot day. My favorite thing to do here is sit on the deck at sunset to enjoy the sky and cooler temps. It's the perfect place to read a book. You are just far enough away from other cabins that you have a sense of privacy on the deck. I've stayed at nicer cabins in the Black hills but this cabin has a better view.Just a few things I would change.The master bedroom mattress sinks a lot in the middle and it's very hard to get a good nights sleep. Please update the bed.The master bed needs a nightstand on each side. The living room furniture looks good but is not very comfortable.I love this cabin but the bed issue is a big concern. The grill could use a good cleaning.Don't let my concerns stop you form staying here. Budi Kusser (rental manager) is super nice easy to work with. You won't regret it.

Beautiful cabin nestled in the black hills. We woke up daily to mule deer walking past the windows, Turkey, and either coyote or foxes. Our sons loved the up stairs and loved the down stairs. Great cabin for a getaway. The cabin is a great location of you are wanting to visit the Badlands area, Custer Area, Lead, Deadwood and Black hills area. Something to note for future travelers, Lynn’s Dakotamart in Lead is a great little market that is roughly 20 minutes away. If you enjoy beautiful hikes, Iron Creek trail and Roughlock fall trail are roughly 20 minutes away and have gorgeous scenery. We will definitely book again without hesitation as we want to hike more of the black hills.

Good place to stay a few days
Cabin was great, clean, had all we needed. Enjoyed fire pit. Internet was spotty and slow. TV had few channels, and internet was too slow to connect a movie to work. Gravel road to get there not the most fun, but quiet area. Enjoyed canyon and surrounding towns.

Nice cabin. Says it sleeps 8, I would say 6 max. Cabin had not been cleaned when we arrived and it was three hours before we had sheets and tp. We cleaned the cabin ourselves.

South Dakota Adventure

This cabin is amazing! Please update the pictures for this listing because the winter scene does not do it justice. It was well maintained other than a few small things. The mattress in the main bedroom could be replaced. The sliding screen door needs to be fixed. The bedroom tv had no remotes & the satellite tv did not work in the living area due to a missing remote. I reached out to property manager regarding the living area tv & was told they would stop out to look at it but they never did show up. I would recommend this great cabin to friends & family. We spend 4 days in the beautiful fall & enjoyed every minute.

We had a great time and loved the cabin. The only issues we had were that there was only 3 wash cloths for 4 guests. We just bought a few, so no big deal, and there was no remote for the TV in the bedroom, again not a big deal. But it would have been nice. Other than that, it was great!

This place is amazing. My family and I were very comfortable. Although no a/c, this house was very comfortable. Had a few housekeeping issues, but were resolved quickly. Budi is a great host. The location is perfect for a getaway. We felt safe and welcome.

Great property, only issue was no internet, which really didn’t bother us, as we pretty much just sleep there! Had a very nice trip, loved Lead and Deadwood, so close to both! Thanks for the fans!!👍🏼

Perfect location in a wonderful cabin. Only minor inconvenience is the lack of a screen storm door and no screen on the sliding door. No A/C so moving air out of the cabin is a bit more difficult than neccessary in the evening. Other than that it was a perfect place for us.

I love being able to cook our own meals and save time & money not eating out. The kitchen is decently stocked, but I wouldn't call it well stocked if you really like to cook.
The location is great and easy to find. We stayed in summer and were worried about the lack of AC, but the cabin is high enough up the mountain that the temps aren't too warm in the day and cool off substantially at night.
We had some trouble with the internet when we first arrived but Budi with BHAL was super responsive and quickly had the issue resolved. The only thing I could point out as disappointing in the cabin would be the landscaping; it definitely lacks curb appeal and just looks messy. But once inside the cabin, everything is great!
Overall we loved our stay and will definitely stay with BHAL on our next trip to the Black Hills!

The cabin was perfect for our stay. It was in the center of all the areas we wanted to visit. Not much time to be in the cabin except at night but was awesome to have this cozy place to come back to at night
