STILL waiting for the return of my deposit, $317.23

For months and months, others have noted the inadequate water pressure, reporting it numerous times. From their review, guests before us were told someone would look at the sprinkle from the shower. Yet nothing was done during their 7-night stay.
We assumed this would be fixed urgently.
To then arrive & find the hot water a dribble, with barely the pressure to reach the showerhead, was beyond belief.
We reported it (yet again)
Local hosts replied swiftly & said they ‘hoped’ someone would ‘pop by shortly’ – which must be what they’d said to all the others who’d reported it.
So we stayed in.
Inevitably, nothing happened. But we got lucky.
As we left next day, we met the building’s caretaker. He was extremely helpful & said no one had contacted him at all, but the hot & cold to each apartment could be adjusted so he’d take a look.
On our return, we’d decent pressure & he came back later to tweak it
So if you have issues outside the apartment (not in), ask the caretaker (no. on notice board) and not Sweetstay or local hosts who don’t even seem to have the right number and were both hopeless. We never met hosts either and had to collect keys from a box outside their office – though earlier check-in was offered if wanted. Maybe Saturday daytime is not a common arrival hour.
Problems solved. But no.
Now we’d water, we tried the bath. But the plug doesn’t close (it’s a dial mechanism). So this luxury apartment has no bath as claimed.
When we lifted the coffeemaker lid, we thought we’d uncovered the origins of COVID. Must be 3 months of mould in there. Surely professional cleaners have a checklist? Next photo is the broken glass in the dishwasher when we first opened it.
But in the spirit of Christmas, which it was for us, let’s find some positives:
It’s spacious. Location is convenient with great restaurants 2 mins walk. It’s quiet - both the area & building - most apartments were empty. The Wi-Fi is good & the appliances excellent
But it’s ruined by the simple things:
As so many have said, the rug is badly stained.
Bedroom blinds are totally inadequate for keeping out light.
En-suite toilet seat is loose & gives you a nasty shock.
Shower drains smell, and screen is too narrow so the floor floods.
Kitchen knives are hopeless - the spoons are sharper.
No dish towels at all.
The electric sockets are 3-pin UK square but the lamps have 2-pin round EU plugs. Hard to know whether to laugh or cry. But this is not safe. If a plug is forced in it will be a fire risk.
The balcony view is fabulous but as others said, the tiles are abysmal. It’s a dry-laid raised access floor but the supports are not levelled so tiles just rock badly and clatter. If you’re hoping for a midnight balcony rendezvous, you’ll likely wake the block, but if not, it’s just very irritating. And we’d say it’s a trip hazard for a child or those with walking difficulties.
The mattress is comfy but the creased fitted sheet doesn’t fit, resulting in the hosts’ comical effort in the photo. And wouldn’t a mattress protector be hygienic?
Then Sweetstay themselves, who we found to be a disorganised shambles. They sent demands for wrong amounts with wrong dates and payment links that didn’t work – none of which inspired confidence. We tried to ring them but by 6pm on a Friday, we’d called 22 times to their UK answerphone that you can’t leave a message on.
They did reply to an email but it made no sense & didn’t answer the question. We got there in the end but it was a struggle.
So that’s our opinion. ‘Luxury’ it isn’t. But it could be.
No doubt below will now follow a mature and professional response from Sweetstay acknowledging their failings, expressing gratitude to all the previous guests who’ve informed them over and over of the exact same issues and vowing to fix them asap for the safety and benefit of all their future guests…
Or not.

Great location with potential to be a wonderful apartment
Poor instructions for check-in as after providing arrival details several times, we ended up collecting keys from a safe box in town.
Only one set of keys provided which meant everyone had to go out together as key fob needed to move around apartment block.
Bedside lamps with 2 pin plug forced into a 3 pin socket - shocking!
Lack of linen - no tea towels, no bathmat/cloth for ensuite shower, no mattress protectors, no linen for sofa bed, bedsheets ill-fitting. Dishwasher tablets hidden at back of cupboard and no washing up liquid.
Overall, I feel it wouldn't take much effort or expense to make a huge improvement to this apartment.

The apartment was lovely, great size, great location and amazing views.
The water pressure was horrendous, we literally couldn't use the shower and brush our teeth at the same time. The shower was a sprinkle of water which when for a family of 4 adults and 1 child was impossible. We contacted hosts who said they would get someone to have a look but then nothing at all. Really disappointing given the amount we paid to stay here,

Location is great, apartment poorly maintained and poorly cleaned, host was not really pleasant and quite aggressive when challenged on key requirements. Only one of the beds were made, he needed to get bedding from an offsite location and delivered it in a Morrisons carrier bag - and said by the way i dont make beds, its not my job!!
I pointed out a number of issues to the host including dirty rugs, poorly cleaned lavatory......used bathmats which was still wet.....smell of damp.......skirting coming away from the wall.......and floating timber floor on water!!
The downward experience commenced at this point, when we had arrived in GIB we messaged the Sweetstay Whatsapp number to confirm arrival and still we had no means of getting in touch directly with the host. A person just appeared out of the darkness.....and shouted my name.....it was 10.30pm in GIB - its very quiet everywhere at this time.
After we made our own beds, it was time to wind down and get ready for work the next day.........well if i said the shower was a drip....that would be an overstatement. The greeter was quite aggressive throughout the process....and TBH we felt unsafe staying in the property knowing that he could potentially access at any time.
We raised a complaint to Booking.com and Sweetstay...........nothing was done in the 12 hrs that we stayed in this apartment (yes <12 hrs of a 3 nights stay) .....so we vacated the following morning and checked into the Elliot Hotel....which was marvellous!!

The views from the small balcony were fabulous and it’s location was perfect to get around everywhere
We had major issues with both showers unfortunately which could not be fixed throughout our 8 day stay but having reported this problem to Sweetstay we do hope that going forward this issue will be resolved

Location was ideal - walking distance to the town, the Rock & cable car. The Marina was beautiful with plenty of lovely restaurant options.
The apartment itself is large and airy, with beautiful views over the Marina.
The shower was terrible and the patio is unfinished. Slabs have been laid but not cemented, meaning they move and bang each time you step on them. The apartment had an unpleasant smell when we walked in.
Check in was shocking. We had to wait an hour and a half for the agent to turn up, despite numerous calls to him, and being told 'I'll be there in 10 minutes.' Should have had the keys at 3pm, we were stood in the street until 4.30pm, with 3children - truly embarrassing. When we got the keys, the fob to the main building didn't work and we had to rely on a friendly family to let us in. Completely unacceptable customer service, given the huge price paid for 1 night. No apology was offered, just reminder texts to vacate the property before 10am, or we would incur extra charges. I booked the apartment as a surprise for my husband for our 10th Wedding Anniversary - truly disappointed.

Stunning apartment with fantastic views very good sized bedrooms one with en-suite and family bathroom. everything you needed for short stay.
unfortunately the only downside was getting a email asking for breakages deposit at the airport and the link they send you doesn’t work! Even though I asked this same question weeks before travel that all deposits were taken and told yes! so trying to sort out at the doors of the apartment with a child not the best start to a holiday about 2hrs..Need to sort this the only problem we had all other great.

Location was ideal, view was fantastic, atmosphere around the location was chilled.
The fact we only had one key and fob between 4 adults was very restricting and didn't have access to the pool until Thursday due to fob not being updated. Hopefully that would be updated for the next guest.
Water pressure was poor for showers.

It was a modern apartment with everything you would need.
Clean, spacious, comfortable, and with views to die for.
If I ever visit Gibraltar again, then this is where I will stay.
One very small problem, but I'll mention it, only because I know the staff is eager to improve on a great service and that is the shower could do with a having a greater flow. I do prefer a power shower. Apart from that it was fantastic!

No fob or key access to the gym or pool toilets caused big problems for us every day. we reported it was on day 2 of our stay yet nothing changed or no help given by our exit on day 7.
The window blinds are thin and totally inefficient.
Thin bobbly bedding is not luxury! And no mattress protector that is washed, so if the person before me sweated all night or stained the bed, I lie with only a thin sheet on top of it 🤮
Cheap crap pillows too…not luxury.the sofa bed slips down at the head end. Luckily we just used for kids but would be insufficient for an adult let alone two.

Great location, lovely view, modern and well presented. Two equal and good sized bedrooms
also had a washing machine and tumble dryer ideal for a holiday
could have done with an extra sofa, we couldn’t get the tv to work

Location and view
It is not luxury. Lack of toiletries for both bathrooms. Lack of towels and of a decent size. Rug badly marked. Slabs on the balcony were not fixed. No good for sleeping six with only a 2 seater sofa and 4 dining room chairs. Could have had more Information of local area. Did not rate Sweetstay at all. When asking about using the pool. They replied its not hot enough. It was 23 - 33 degrees every day.

beautiful location and fabulous facilities
apt fabulous….but checking in wise didn’t like the fact you had to faff around making a payment for cleaning/breakage cover on the morning of check in. we’d only just landed and then had to start trying to make card payment via sweetstay to cover this. very stressful as none of our banks would do this type of transaction from abroad (needed to be present at point of sale rather than card payment to a website from abroad). we ended up transferring the money and getting a friend to make the payment. would much rather have paid on booking

Beautiful views and great location. the property is so spacious and has comfortable beds and very clean and new.
staff was very accommodating and let us do an early check in!
it was a shame we were not given the key that included the access to pool and gym so unfortunately we couldn’t use them. we ended up going to the office to get them but since it was the day before we left we had no time to enjoy the facilities.

The apartment was beautiful, stunning views from balcony. Top grade appliances. Secure parking with easy access to apartment.
Dishwasher not working. Bedding unironed. Difficulty getting correct letter of stay as requested for our wedding.

Really lovely, high -end apartment. Clean and tidy, all the usual and expected amenities to live comfortably for however short or long your trip is!
Located fairly centrally with only a 5 minute walk to top of the high street but more like a 20 minute walk to Ocean Village (or a taxi of course) -
highly recommended.

The pools and gyms we're good. The apartment was clean.
The checking in process was dire. Very poor experience. Deposits still not paid back and I was double charged. When we arrived they also took out payment details for a third time. Poor communication from the property, the managing agent didn't care when I asked about the payment situation and said it wasn't their problem and I needed to contact the property, to which I got no answer via email

Having to pay £500 returnable deposit for 1 night stay not just card details given but charged to card looking for quick return of £500 because left apartment same way as we found it would hesitate to book through booking .com again because was not aware of this way of deposits

Very poor response from the people I booked it with, still waiting on a response to see when I get my £500 deposit back. The apartment was nice and the staff who cleaned and gave me the keys were nice. Just a shame the people I booked it with (sweet stay, through booking.com) don’t like replying when I’m trying to get my deposit back. I will never stay there again as feel like I won’t ever get a reply and get this back

Modern apartment in a residential property. Clean, quiet and comfortable. Beautiful views over marina and coastline. Kitchenette with dishwasher. Washer & dryer on site too. Improved since previous stay.
Pool was too cold to enjoy (unheated) and didn't look clean.
Apartment missing some minor refinements which would just make it superb (ironing board, foldaway drying rack, dishwasher tabs)

The apartment is in the best location of Gibraltar and the views really are amazing!! The apartment is a newly built complex and the pool was very nice and quite private(there are other pools). The apartment has two double bedrooms with an en-suite in one of them and plenty of wardrobe space but could benefit from a dressing table or a long mirror. There is a kitchen, 4 seat dining table but a two seat sofa so could do with another sofa. There was wifi, however this seemed to have dropped out the last few days of the trip. Eli was our host he arrived to let us into the apartment within 10 minutes of being contacted, he was very polite, pleasant and provided a lot of information about Gibraltar and answered any questions we had, he was also fully contactable at any point during our stay. Overall the apartment really is fantastic.
We made contact with sweetstay regarding a late check out a few days prior to leaving. They asked that we contact on that day to see if it was available. When contacted on the day we were advised late check out was not available, however I’m not sure why we couldn’t be told this in the first instance. A £500 deposit is required upon arrival to the apartment and states this will be refunded within 7 days after leaving the apartment but this has only just been processed by sweetstay.
