Cozy Open Concept Lake House with Large Deck & Waterfront, perfect for families!
About this cabin rental
You're bound to fall in love with our charming lakeside family camp surrounded by old growth pines. We're renting out our cabin on Lake Messalonskee (known to locals as Snow Pond) in Central Maine that we've loved for decades. The cabin is characterized by the 'great room' encompassing the a generous living room space and open kitchen/dining room, two bedrooms with queen beds (the main bedroom has a full en-suite bathroom) plus a loft with two twin beds (perfect for kids!), and a pull-out sofa and futon in the main room. There's a fire pit by the water, a grill on the deck, many comfy chairs to lounge in, and a screened-in tree house. Clearly the luckiest part is being right on the water. So much to do around here! We've got kayaks, tubes for the water, noodles, a water trampoline, etc. it’s a great place to swim. You'll be all set for a beautiful stay on the water, living the slow life. The house is ideal for 2-6 people. More info on bedrooms: there are two bedrooms with queen beds, each of which comfortably sleep two people. Then there’s a loft that works for kids. If additional space is necessary, there’s a futon that folds out to be a bit larger than a twin bed, and a pull-out couch that can sleep two— but the house would feel crowded! Both the futon and the pull-out couch are in the main living area. Towels (bath & beach), linens, and some toiletries provided. If renting in September, we can discuss the possibility of use of the wood stove in the event of chilly temps in the evening. To be clear, this is a rustic cabin in the woods (not luxury-- but totally charming!). It is our little slice of heaven. We'd be thrilled to share it with you!

Terrible in every way imaginable. Letter too long and sent to VRBO representative.

We loved being lakeside, swimming, catching fish, playing games, cooking and connecting. We truly had a blast :)

A wonderful week on a beautiful pond. Common areas were spacious and encouraged family activities. Loved the deck and waterfront. We had everything we needed to unwind and enjoy nature and each other

The location and lake are absolutely gorgeous. The house was stocked with the essentials and the host was incredibly communicative.
We traveled with young children and my parents, and I wouldn’t recommend this property to those with young children due to a few safety concerns. The tree house is dangerous with only a screen and nothing to stop kids from a fall. The loft wasn’t usable with really little kids either because the railing is really low and there’s a gap where the ladder is so it didn’t feel safe. The loft would be fine with older kids.
This is a lovely, rustic camp on a beautiful lake. We spent everyday on the boat and it was so incredibly peaceful. The water trampoline was a hit with the kids too. I do wish it was a bit cleaner, but overall we had an excellent time.

We had an amazing time here at this lake house property as it had it all for us- waterfront, trampoline in the water for kids, fishing dockside, kayaks /canoe to explore the lake, firepit for s'mores in the evenings. Kids slept in the treehouse- how can you get better? Very relaxing- highly recommended! It is lake-drawn water (filtered) inside the cabin for bathing. They supply a generous amount of bottled water for drinking.

Lovely cabin. Great swimming. Lovy deck to sit and read. Wish weather had been better.

Amazing place
We wanted a quiet lakeside camp and this place checked all the boxes. We loved the dock and the trampoline/tanning bed just yards away in the water. This camp also had an amazing library which helped when we ran out of reading material. Definitely worth staying there!

Snow Pond Camp
Great location with great owners. Short trip to Oakland and Waterville. It's rare to find a camp with 2 full bathrooms which is fantastic. Small but great open living and kitchen area..

Excellent Lake House
Beautiful lake house and property. If you're looking for a nice relaxing getaway on the water, this is it. Home is comfortable and has pretty much everything you need, including a pair of kayaks and a canoe. Open floor plan is nice with and airy with a well equipped kitchen. Loft is a bit tight, but good for kids.
Owners are VERY responsive to inquiries, and are very friendly. You can tell that the property is well cared for. We stayed with two older teens and 3 dogs - and enjoyed ourselves very much.
Bottom line - this isn't a luxury home, it's a lake house in the woods. But it does that very well! Highly recommend!

Cabin On The Lake
We enjoyed our time there! Great spot on the lake right in one of the only No Wake zones meaning boats have to go slow. This is nice if you have kids swimming all day like we did. On our visit there was a trampoline float about 20’ offshore which provided a home base for swimming kids. Kept our 23’ boat right on the dock. Awesome lake for tubing or skiing! Close to Waterville where there are a number of great places to eat!

We had a wonderful time. Everything you’d want in a family camp in Maine. Loved the open concept. Boys loved the water trampoline. Mom made the tree house a yoga studio. All were happy! Let us know if you’re selling! ;-)

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely cabin. Location is perfect. Water is right there although there are steps down to the water so not ideal for the elderly. We loved the added bonus of being right in the no wake zone so no crazy waves to deal with. We hope we are able to visit again. Definitely recommend if you want to relax and enjoy!

Everything about this week was wonderful! Starting with the booking and communication as we approached our arrival day. The hosts provided very clear direction on how to find/ access and get into the cabin as well as clearly stating what we needed to bring and not (basically - just ourselves!).
The cabin is exactly as shown on VRBO - wide and open and perfectly rustic yet with all of the amenities, complete kitchen/cooking supplies, bottled Poland spring water for all your needs, coffee makers - regular drip and Keurig...paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, assorted condiments, laundry detergent, and all linens - bath and beach... (the usual items I find needing to supply).
There are plenty of games, puzzles, and books. We are a family that often has TV on in the background - we did not put it on once for the entire vacation! Even though we had a fair amount of rain, we were completely occupied with games, hiking, mini-golf and boating. We brought our power boat and one kayak but they have 2 kayaks and 1 canoe.
There are two boat launches on the lake. One four miles from the cottage and one just across the lake only 1 mile away. Super easy to launch and secure your boat on the dock in front of the house.
Our teenagers took the outdoor pinball table and game to a new level of competition and one of our son's loved the treehouse to catch up on some needed work - the wifi worked there!
Campfires by the water, coffee on the deck - it was perfectly relaxing and wonderful. OOOH and we did manage to sneak in 3 trips to the maple bacon farm a few miles away for soft serve maple ice cream sprinkled with BACON BITS!
Our 20 and 18 year-old boys who were candidly unenthusiastic about our pending family vacation in a cabin on a lake... completely changed their tune when it was time to leave - they were completely bummed that they couldn't stay longer, stating, "Wow, Mom and Dad - this was totally better then we anticipated. This cabin and location completely changed our minds about coming to Maine!"
Jo-Ann and Bill were wonderful hosts and provided a great home for us to enjoy. We will be back!

My wife and friends (7 adults ,1 child, and a dog) enjoyed 8 nights at the Open Concept Lake House. We were able to secure our stay last minute thanks to Jo-Ann and her family!
We were very thankful for the easy check in process and GREAT communication. This made for a stress-free and great start to our stay. We were excited to be the very FIRST ones to stay at Jo-Ann's family cabin! Here are a few things that we feel you may appreciate if you decide to stay:
LOCATION:
Whether you are looking to enjoy a quiet lakefront get-away full of kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and swimming, or you are interested in sight-seeing along Maine's beautiful coastline this home is the perfect hub.
Snow Pond is only a few steps away from your bed! The dock and lower yard are perfect for relaxation and gathering! The firepit, hammock and water trampoline all are wonderful additions and sure made for some great memories.
Canoeing and kayaking allows you to see Snow Pond from another perspective. We were able to enjoy the many sights and sounds of the lake: Loons, Bald Eagles, and a Beaver Den, all within a short paddle.
The Maine Coastline is not right next door, but if you are willing to drive about an hour or two you have many great choices in day trips. You can see amazing sights such as Acadia National Park (2 hour drive), Bar Harbor (2 hour drive), Boothbay (1 hour) and Bath (less than 1 hour). All are well worth the trip!
House:
The Lake House itself had a wonderful layout (two bedrooms and loft) *I'd like to mention that the loft is perfect for kids and adults who are willing to climb a ladder. Not so good for older ones, which Jo-Ann made sure to mention to us before booking! (Again, great communication!!)
The open concept living space allowed for us all to be together comfortably. The kitchen is well-equipped and we were able to easily cook all our meals. Both bathrooms were adequate and the laundry utilities were in working order (we made use of them!). Remember, this is a cabin in the woods. So there are a few quirks and rustic qualities of the house. Overall, we were quite satisfied with the amenities and the cabin itself.
Overall, we would recommend renting this cabin to all who love a cozy lakeside experience. There are plenty of activities for adults and children to enjoy on site and on the water. Jo-Ann and family are GREAT hosts who provided a beautiful welcome and went above and beyond to make us feel at home.
