Welcome back to Bambooshay, St. John! We are so happy to have Bambooshay again after a long three years since it was lost to Hurricane Irma. Bigger, better and much stronger than before, Bambooshay Villa has all the amenities of a luxury hotel but without the crowds! This house is more than a vacation rental - it is our home. You will note the exquisite attention to detail we put into every aspect of the new villa when you arrive. We will retire here fully one day but for now we are happy to share it with you! This two bedroom, two full bath villa is equipped with air conditioning in each bedroom, full sized stainless appliances (refrigerator/freezer, oven, stove, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer), quartz countertops, solid wood cabinets and doors and slate floors. It comes fully stocked with blender, toaster, coffee maker, small food processor, cooking utensils, pots and pans - everything you need to make yourself at home during your stay! Walk out onto the deck overlooking Coral Bay you and your guests will enjoy soaking in the pool or hot tub, cooking out on the Weber grill or just relaxing with a beverage of your choice while taking in the views. “Bambooshay” is a Creole word that means “enjoy yourself; have a good time.” Coined during Carnival season in the 1950’s, the word originates from “Bambula,” an old African dance that is carried out today through a unique “second line” dance that is performed to the beat of traditional New Orleans jazz. Revelers during carnival today are often heard yelling out “Bambooshay!” as they partake in the festivities of the season. In a single word, Bambooshay embodies the spirit and attitude that we have found from the Caribbean to New Orleans, and we truly hope you will enjoy yourself and have a great time on St. John. Bambooshay! Bambooshay Villa is located on Seagrape Hill in Coral Bay. Turn onto Seagrape Hill Road directly across from the fire station (if you get to Skinny Legs you went too far). Paved all the way up, we are located inside the automatic gate at the first left you can take. We are ideally located between the best of the north shore beaches and those less travelled on the east end of the island. Your toes can be in the water within 10 minutes drive in either direction! Bambooshay villa was the perfect getaway for what we enjoy. Perfectly located. Perched high on a hill with all the privacy one could ask for yet easy access to trails, grocery and restaurants. Located on the quiet end of the island. Views from the deck overlooking the perfectly sized infinity pool are world class. Tammy, the property manager, was the perfect host. Top notch communication and always willing to help with anything needed. Highly recommended.

We had a great stay at Bambooshay! The villa was well decorated and the view was phenomenal! When we were not out and about, we spent hours and hours in the pool, the hot tub and on the deck. Tammy was wonderful to deal with and was so helpful throughout our stay. Great experience - highly recommend!!

The property has two well appointed bedrooms and bathrooms with working AC units. The pool/hot tub are small but perfect for a dip. Perfect location <10 min drive to all the major restaurants in Coral Bay (not super walkable due to the steep incline of the drive up). They also have three snorkel sets, a cooler, and four beach chairs to borrow along with many beach towels. Loved staying on this side of the island and would definitely stay here again!

The house, views, breezes, privacy, and quiet neighborhood exceeded our expectations, but the hot tub was not working properly. The hot tub was a primary reason for booking this villa, so we were quite disappointed that it could not be activated, never got over 95-degrees, and the jets were not working. The pool was unheated and far too cold to be enjoyable. We never did figure out how to control the living/dining room lights (with a remote) without impacting the ceiling light in the bedroom off the kitchen.
The property manager, Tammy, was exceptional. She tried to get the hot tub working and treated the water, but it never was clear. She met us at the property and showed us how everything worked, checked in on us via text, took us grocery shopping, and we retained her for a tour of the island.
We chose not to rent a vehicle because we were not comfortable driving on the left. It is not feasible to walk up or down Seagrape Hill to catch a bus (unless you are a marathoner), but we found two taxi drivers willing to accommodate us. Keep in mind that fares are per person and ran $15-20 each way, and luggage fees were additional.
We would gladly stay at Bambooshay Villa again, IF the hot tub was in working order. We really enjoyed the Coral Bay side of St. John and agreed that having a vehicle is clearly advantageous!

The house is a perfect 2 bedroom 2 bath for 2 couples or family with 2 small children. You’ll need to rent a car as Coral Bay is fairly remote, but the privacy and access to Hanson Bay (14 min), Salt Pond (14 min), Maho (12 min), & Francis Bay (12 min) are both excellent. House is well stocked. We made smoothies daily and hung in the jacuzzi nightly.
There is a grocery albeit small and a smattering of eateries. And if interested in Skinny Legs, I’m not sure if you could get closer (Although not walkable for most due to the incline to and from).

Great location and very well stocked home. There are plenty of local bars and restaurants in Coral Bay and you’re a half hour to Cruz Bay. The house manager was communicative and responsive. This is our first time back since Irma and our first time staying in Coral Bay. If you like a little slower side of the island this is the place for you!

We enjoyed our week away from the normal hustle of our everyday life and relaxed in this beautiful villa. It was perfect and had every possible need to make the vacation exceptional. We loved relaxing at the pool and the hot tube was an added bonus. Beautiful views added to our lazy days.

We will absolutely stay here again on our next visit to St. John! Can't say enough good things about this place. The View! The Pool! The extras were icing on the cake. We took full advantage of the provided snorkel gear, beach chairs, beach towels, and ice chest. Since you're reading reviews on this place, go ahead and book it! You will not be disappointed. The Coral Bay area has plenty of markets and restaurants so don't be afraid to stay on this "slower" side of the island. While on Island, be sure to catch Mel Knapp at the Windmill Bar (among other places). He is a phenomenal guitar player!

We loved everything about this beautiful property. It was very clean and well stocked, and the property manager was very attentive when needed. We enjoyed cooking dinners and eating on the deck with the gorgeous view. The beds were comfortable and the location in Coral Bay was convenient to the beaches. It’s a bit tricky navigating up the narrow and winding road, but that is St John! We would absolutely stay here again.

We had a great 5 night stay! All new construction, nice and clean. Everything you need from snorkel gear, cooler and chairs to games, binoculars and local books of interest. Great pool and hot tub with fantastic views and a breeze. Highly recommend!

Wow, Bambooshay did not disappoint. The remodeled house was super up to date and very nicely done. The best part about this property is the outdoor living, specifically the views, the pool and hot tub. Drop dead gorgeous view of Coral Bay. Close proximity to Maho Bay beach and also Salt Pond Beach. The owner offered all bath towels and beach towels and 4 nice low sitting beach chairs. Hi speed WiFi worked great, and Dish was a plus for evening movie nights with the kiddos. Super responsive owner to all our questions. Highly recommend and we will be back.

This was an amazing place to stay with our 9 & 12 yo — with the pool for them and a delightful soft hot tub for us. The location was nice for us to relax & get away from the main part of town and in order to explore the whole island. The views are spectacular and we already want to be back at Bambooshay & St. John! The hosts we very accommodating with everything.

We have traveled to many different islands in the Caribbean over the years and the villa was one of our favorite places to stay in the Caribbean.I was so happy to be back in Saint John. It is such a beautiful island with all the gorgeous turquoise water, white sand beaches, and lush green mountains. We traveled to a different beach each morning and afternoon. We cooked in quite a bit as there is not a huge variety of restaurants on Coral Bay. The kitchen was very well appointed and great for preparing meals. The house has two nice bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The views from the deck and house of Coral Bay were very scenic. The house has a small but nice pool and hot tub. You almost didn't need to leave the house but the gorgeous beaches beckoned. We chose not to drive to Cruz Bay for dinner but did enjoy some of the restaurants in Coral Bay especially Sally's Mongoose Pizza.

Getaway blissfully
This was an amazing place to stay with our 9 & 12 yo — with the pool for them and a delightful soft hot tub for us. The location was nice for us to relax & get away from the main part of town and in order to explore the whole island. Amazing
Our experience was amazing overall. The location on top of the mountain overlooking the bay was exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities this newly built home with hot tub and jacuzzi has to offer. The craftsmanship was excellent. We were very inspired to build and to move to the islands! We loved the quietness and being away from Cruz Bay. )which is a 30 min drive away but well worth it) You definitely need a Jeep and to be prepared to purchase groceries and use the beautiful kitchen because there is not a plethora of great restaurants in town. This home is still new so as we all contribute to the spice cabinet. Maho beach is 13 minute drive a way and there is Love Grocery store a few minutes down the mountain that is expensive but prices are better than the markets closer to Cruz Bay.

The pictures on here don’t do it justice! The location, the view, the pool…everything was absolutely incredible! My husband and I went for our 16 year wedding anniversary, but it would also be the perfect for place to bring kids. And my husband and I planning on doing just that for our next trip!

Blissful relaxation!
Our main goal for our trip to St John was total relaxation and Bambooshay really helped us to achieve that. The cottage is very secluded and private which we loved. It also provided everything we needed for a week in paradise away from the comforts of home. The beach gear was well used and we took advantage of the awesome deck every morning and evening. No air conditioning but the fans do a pretty good job at keeping you cool. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again soon!

Typical Caribbean wooden house. Great deck and hot tub. Messages sent to the owner were not forwarded to the managers, leading to minor communication snafus.

Another wonderful week in Coral Bay!
We come to St John, specifically Coral Bay, annually. Bambooshay was perfect for our needs! Tom , the property manager, is wonderful - kind, fun, and responsive! The villa was very clean and 100% met our needs. I would highly recommend. Private and well stocked with the essentials while still being close to our favorite South and North Shore beaches and all the conveniences of Coral Bay.
