I don't usually leave reviews but since I agonized over our hotel choice for Kauai, one would be useful! First off, we loved the location, it was close to the airport so we didn't have to travel far on arrival. In spite of this, we didn't hear a lot of noise from planes and the property felt peaceful. The location made driving to both ends of the island convenient. The shuttles were a nice touch and we felt so relaxed not having to worry about transport to the airport. The pool is so large that it never felt crowded even though part of it was blocked off for construction. The hotel was recently updated so pulling up to the entrance looked impressive. All rooms faced the ocean which was a nice touch and looked both clean and modern. Our room was also so spacious so we didn't feel like we were on top of each other for a week. The restaurants were EXCELLENT, especially the sushi restaurant. It was so convenient to be able to go downstairs for good food whenever we were too tired to go out. All of the restaurants had great food, in comparison we ate at the Grand Hyatt restaurants twice on this trip and the food there was both exorbitantly expensive and lackluster. The staff throughout the property were all very nice and accommodating. After a long flight from the mainland it was great to be greeted by someone cordial and seemed happy to help. My bf was a little hesitant about the price but we both agreed that it was worth it!

Hotel needs a facelift and I believe they are currently working on that as there were several areas of construction going on. The pool area is very nice for families and proximity to airport makes for a great 1 night stay before a flight home.

This was by far the worst resort we have ever stayed in. Where to even start? For the price point (almost $600 a night) we were excepting some basics included. For one the hotel so very run down and needs a major upgrade. They are also in middle of construction all over the property. It’s loud and messy and the front lobby when you walk in is all papered off and a total mess. None of this was disclosed at booking. The room was gross, the beds uncomfortable and they don’t even offer water. It’s $7 for a place bottle of water in your room. They charge you $30 to self park way up the road on top of the $40 resort fee (+ a ton of taxes). The food is overpriced (like outrageous) and is basic bar food, such a disappointment. Housecleaning came pounding on our room door at 8:15 am yelling housekeeping here to clean. They woke our whole family up after we had taken a red eye and were exhausted (hiking to try and sleep in). Let’s just say there are so many others better hotels on the island, don’t waste your $$ here.

Ok hotel with a giant pool. So much walking to get from one side to the other. There’s no cutting through. To get to the middle jacuzzis, you would have to swim to them.
The front desk is so far from the entrance. Hard to find parking.
I find it weird and kinda ick that they allow day use of the hotel rooms. I can only imagine what people use the rooms for.
It’s a nice enough hotel and close to the airport but overpriced for sure. We only stayed one night. We spent the rest of the week in Princeville and that was much much nicer. Will not be returning.

Beautiful with an amazing pool. Lihue is a great location on the island. One can easily drive north to Princeville or South to Pipui and other towns in between. You can walk straight out from the pool to the almost private beach.

We were only on property for several hours awaiting a night time flight back to the mainland; but, found the experience awesome!
The room was lovely and quite spacious and immaculate.
The public spaces are wonderful and the pool is spectacular!
We had a quick bite at Kukui’s, and the sushi was delicious!
Strong recommend!

Very pleasant staff. The restaurants are good and several lower price options are close by. It is very quiet in the rooms and the beach is excellent.

This is a great hotel just minutes from airport, with checkin all night, beautiful large grounds with massive pool next to beach, just minutes from shopping via footpath, multiple restaurants within walking distance, large free self park lot near building, clean/large rooms with comfy beds and balconies...and very pleasant/friendly staff!

The Royal Sonesta was a great property. It is very clean with helpful staff and friendly employees. The only complaint was the parking, it was very far from the rooms and you had to share the resort parking with people going to the beach.

I loved my stay here. Beautiful property, there was food options within walking distance of the resort as well as close by with driving in Lihue. The parking options were good. All the staff was very polite and helpful. I got room service a few times and it was great. I loved my virw. It had a safe and mini fridge. Only thing i didnt like was there was no microwave so i couldnt reheat any leftovers.

800$ a night and new charge 7$ for bottle of water in the room?! Ridiculous! Staff has no idea what’s happening in this property. 1/10

We stayed for three nights with small children. The pool was a large hit and loved there was an extra pool with slide for kids. Dining was very convenient and tasty. Staff was friendly and helpful. Loved how many dining and shopping options were nearby and the beach next to the pool.
We had some frustration that it was not clearly posted that the bell hop/ level for parking was on floor 5. Not allowed to take bags on escalators. Resort is older and obviously going through some renovations.

We’ve stayed here many times, and have always enjoyed its many amenities. This time we had a small health emergency that prevented us from getting our flight home, and the front desk wonderful in allowing us early morning checkin so we wouldn’t have to wait until 4 pm without anywhere to recover. It was such a relief!

The staff was friendly. However, the bathroom was very dirty and the sheets and pillows had stains on them. we requested for more sheets. The bathroom shower was not draining well. We paid over $1,600 to stay here and it was not what we expected at all. The room was dirty. Additionally I had left my coupons and free passes on the table in the room and the cleaning people took them or tossed them after cleaning. The front desk refused to reissue me new coupons the night I called. They gave me new coupons the next morning but I couldn’t use them because the restaurant was closed. Such a disappointment.

The Sonesta did not disappoint when it came to my expectations. The preferred ocean king room was large, clean, comfortable, with an amazing view from the 10th floor. The pool was AWESOME and truly appreciated that there were plenty of lounge chairs so even on busy days there was no problem finding two we liked. We took advantage of the day spa for a couples massage and ate at all three restaurants, enjoying our meals at all three. Being in Lihue meant we were pretty close to anywhere we wanted to go and we explored as much of the island as we could. Loved the trip!

the sonesta is a ice place to stay, with various amenities, right by the beach & close to different restaurants & shopping area. customer service is wonderful esp the concierge that i bothered multiple times for assistance during my stay on 10/24-25 (sorry forgot his name) he was very gratitude & willing to help. the only thing that dampens my stay is, room that has a Deep Soaking Tub (which was on the description & even had a picture) but when i checked in, i only got a regular tub (the front desk had the audacity to say “how big of a tub do you need”, apparently she does not know the difference of the dimensions & the experience between the two. she stated that only the suites have deep soaking tub. they offer an upgrade of course with a price. for the price spent, the room has a wonderful view but didn’t even include complimentary water to make your coffee.

Our room was on the ground floor. Fabulous room, easy access to the pool, hot tubs, ocean and eating areas. Enjoyed our stay.

The property is very pretty. It’s definitely an older resort. They are working on updating rooms, buildings, ceilings, walkways etc. so be prepared to see and hear construction. We were lucky enough to get an updated room that didn’t have carpeted floors. That being said we walked in the room with socks on just unloading our luggage and they became black. They do not mop the floors when they clean the rooms. We proceeded to stay in our sandals the entire stay. We took a wet wipe and wiped a small area of the floor and it was filthy. While you couldn’t see the dirty floor because the new “wood” covers it well. It was very dirty. Also our tub began to clog after day three..it would start to spit up black stuff so my husband being a mr fix it himself pulled the drain and began to pull out thick black hair with a plastic fork. He told me not to look because it was like the horror movie The Grudge. Also they have too many outlets for the tv wall. If you tried to brew a cup of coffee everything on that wall (tv,lights, outlets) stopped working. We are not ones to complain so once again “mr fix it” found the power outlet switch under the shelf and reset it himself. If he wanted coffee we took the coffee machine and brewed it on the night stand side. The good..the staff at the resort are very friendly. The pool is great and it’s nice to have a very swimmable beach right on site. Also nice to have three restaurants right on site. I’m all it was ok.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and it was amazing! The hotel is beautiful along with the pools, hot tub and the beach. Walkable to many restaurants, shops, etc. we will be back!

The resort fees are EXPENSIVE!!! NOT WORTH THE STAY!!!
Service Fees, Resort Fees, Parking Fees, and MISC Fees!
They charged, basically for a whole extra week just in Fees.
Ridiculous!!! NEVER GOING BACK!

This was a beautiful hotel and the staff was excellent! I did not give it 5 stars because there were too many fees. I was shocked to find it cost an additional $30 per day to park our car. We did not use the valet service and expected to be able to park free. Fees for parking and activities really added up. It was an expensive hotel to begin with so I really didn’t expect to have more fees added on to the bill.
